In all his botoxed and quiana-shirted glory! Not like he needs the exposure. I'm kinda sorta maybe rooting for him though.

Poor guy needs at least one reply. Thankfully, Wayne comes pre-tanned so all the money saved to bronze him can be allocated to the BBSS (buy better song selections) fund.

If any of you are Wayne fans, he is on the most recent episode of Design Star, when they had to come up with a design to fit his tacky tastes.
I most remember him for when he was on LA Law as a sleazy lawyer. He was good.

For anyone that doesn't know who Wayne Newton is and thinks he doesn't have a shot in hell, read his Biography:
http://www.waynenewton.com/waynesbiography.htmlHe is still going strong and is one heck of an entertainer, with Cheryl I can see them go very far.

I don't think people are giving this couple enough credit. There are those that say they have no chance, then I've read where others say they could be the dark horse with both their fan bases. No one should underestimate what these two might be able to do. I think most are looking at his age and saying he's the resident "old" guy this season, he doesn't stand a chance. From what I remember, the resident old guy never leaves early and he is probably the most popular old guy they've had on the show. With Cheryl's track record (Season 2, 3 Champion, Season 4 Semifinalist) and her great teaching ability, she and Wayne should do very well. Wayne is Mr. Entertainer, he isn't going to go out there and make a fool of himself he will give it 100% and do what he does best...entertain. Besides being a great dancer, Cheryl is great at teaching to the strengths of her partners. He might not be the best technically, but you can bet he'll be one of the more entertaining dancers and as I recall Emmitt wasn't the best technical dancer but where did he end up...with that trophy in his hands. He charmed his way into America's hearts and who knows Wayne just might do the same. I'm not saying they will win....but don't expect these two to leave early.

Emilie45 posted a link to a
radio interview of Wayne Newton after he met Cheryl and went through a session. I found the interview very entertaining. I wasn't impressed when he was initially announced but he seems to understand what the show is going to demand of him. And I think Cheryl is an outstanding instructor and may bring out depths that even he doesn't know he has.

I know the males tend to do well with cha-cha, but call me crazy in that Wayne doesn't look half bad so far. I'm not expecting any big moves from him, but it doesn't seem like he'll be a Springer type either.

Thanks klm1 for the link to the video. Wayne looked like he was relaxed and moving relatively well. And Cheryl's comment about him being able to dance on beat is encouraging. He looks committed to the competition.
However:
I prefer Cheryl without the extensions. She looks much better with shorter hairstyle.
Wayne has gone to his plastic surgeon too many times. His eyes look especially off.

I would imagine that Wayne would have a pretty good sense of rhythm and timing, being a musical entertainer, but the clip of him doing the cha-cha didn't wow me. He's gonna have to learn not to look at his feet so much.
ByTheWay, you're spot on about the eyes. There's something creepy about them, and it's only more obvious because of his large forehead and big hair. His eyes look like they're a little too low on his face, not to mention too tight.
[snark] And if I have to listen to him repeatedly talk about being an Indian, I'm gonna scream. Yes, Wayne, there have probably been other native Americans who have danced the cha-cha, tango, waltz, twist, macarena, mashed potato, and rhumba. I don't think they limit themselves to dancing around fires wearing buckskin and headdresses.[/snark]

He looks frightening, as if he's in one of those comedies which parodies plastic surgery. I can barely watch him. His dancing, if you call it dancing, consists of slowly tip-toeing around the floor and being praised because he's Wayne Newton. The scenes of him in Vegas, hands on his hips, girdle practically bursting at the seams, they were very bad self-parody.
Every year TPTB have to cast someone like this who long outstay their welcome, but I'm not sure I can take an entire season of his frozen face and dancing.

Am I the only one on this thread who remembers Wayne threatning to beat up Johnny Carson because Carson kept making jokes about Wayne? Anyways.......his eyes are a little "out there" but he seems like a nice guy but I agree with the other poster that we do not need to hear that you are part Native Indian.....we get it already. But I do say good for him for getting out there when he is wee bit older than the other celebrities. He sure doesn't need it to get his career back; the man makes more money in a day that I'll see in a lifetime!

This is the first time since Master P where a random audience member pulled onstage five minutes before showtime would be an improvement over the celebrity.
His face is so badly mutilated, every time they show him in closeup, another million people decide against plastic surgery.
I know he won't, but I'm hoping he'll leave tomorrow.

I wouldn't quite put him at Master P levels of badness. He's not good, but he does seem to at least be trying. Not to mention he's got over thirty years on Master P. I don't think he's any worse than Billy Ray. My guess is he won't go home tomorrow, but what remains to be seen is if he makes the bottom two.

sgupta4, it was the early 80's and Johnny Carson used to make a ton of jokes at Wayne's expense because when Wayne was a young performer, he sang in a rather high voice. And although he was rather tall he did have a baby face for a long time. He revamped his image but some folks still remember hom as a youthful boy performer. Legend has it (as Wayne tells it) that he finally went to Mr. Carson's office and told him to stop...or else. What else he meant, I do not know. Johnny Carson was all: "Oh I am a fan!" and said he would stop. Frankly I would not want to go up againt a power house like Johnny Carson back in the day as he could have a lot of influence on a career and I think Wayne could have served himself better by going on the show and poking a little fun at himself. Back in the early 80's Wayne Newton made a million dollars a month so frankly I don't know what he was complaining about!!! But I grew up watching Johhny Carson (I am 42) so I am biased towards the late great Johnny Carson. Wayne is still okay.....he is much stiffer on the stage than I would expect a man who has been performing as long as he has been performing!!! He needs yoga or something to loosen him up. And he needs to stop with the plastic surgery.

I love how he made himself scarce after he performed. He was not seen in any of the backroom interviews until the final one. Cheryl was there the entire time. What did he have better to do? Was he ashamed of his lame-ass performance? Maybe the lighting doesn't flatter his rotund self and cryptkeeper facial skin?
He is done. There is no way they give him 5's across the board unless the word was given that he wanted out. It is no coincidence that nobody got any 6's - all got at least 7's.
Wayne accomplished his goal of getting a ton of positive pub. He really didn't have a ton of time or energy to devote to this show anyway.
Buh-bye, Wayne.

He looks like that Burger King on the commercials!
Which is very bad because that Burger King creeps me out...and it's a guy in the mask. Having that be your "real" face? Too creepy for words.
He seems like a nice guy but I'm sorry that he's found it necessary to do that to himself. He's got all the money in the world, you'd think the surgery would look better. Is it because he kept insisting on the impossible?
It's like a train wreck, I know he's dancing but I can only watch his face...yet it scares me. Sad.

Good grief, someone put this creature out of his misery. Ever notice how he and Joan Rivers and the Cat Lady are all starting to look like they came from the same womb?
He's terrible-his big fake showbiz smile and 'jazz hands' do NOT equal 'dancing'.

Those Master P flashbacks keep coming. Tatum was in the bottom two with Master P in this week, and Master P stayed. This probably means Wayne will be safe next week and a great dancer will go instead.
His face, my God. I can't believe what he's done to himself. Someone in the results thread said he sucks the life out of the room and puts it into his face. Apt.

He seems like a genuinely nice guy and he's trying somewhat, but it's time to go.
Like many others here have mentioned, what the hell has he done to his face? It's so damn distracting! He would have looked way better if he just aged gracefully. The puppet mouth (just like Barbara Walters) is just freakin scary. He had a crappy eye job too. Ain't nothing natural about his looks...he should sue his plastic surgeon.

I was so happy to find out that Wayne was going to be on DWTS, BUT, his performance last week was painful to watch. There's no way he's going to be able to keep with with the other guys, Helio in particular. I haven't seen last night's performance on T-faux, yet. Hopefully, there is some improvement, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

My God, he was bad last night. He didn't dance: he sort of prowled around the stage a bit, but that was it. And the girth on him! Wow. In performance, I think he must wear one helluva tight girdle, but in the rehearsal shots his waist just seemed to go on and on forever.

When he sang Danke Schoen tonight, that was just all kinds of OY.
I think his girdle is way to tight, it's strangling his diaphram. It was so awful, I was even embarrassed for him. They shoulda gone right to commercial!

When he first hit the mainstream back in the day, he was a big ol' kid with a very high singing voice, like that of a woman. He sang very well.
Then his voiced changed a bit and he decided instead of balladeering, he wanted to be Frank Sinatra (snap the fingers and half sing-half speak the lyrics). Vegas has always loved him.

Actually, in earlier years, even after the deeper voice, he had a pleasant tone. I think last night he either had a cold or his voice has burnt out. I saw him back in the 80's and he definitely sounded much better!
It also sounded like the band was playing the song too slow for him. Half-way through the song I got the impression he was trying to hurry them up. I'm guessing the voice tone (or lack thereof) may be due to ageing and/or lack of practice with the band. I remember Tom saying that they had put that together in less than 24 hours.
The nice part was seeing how warmly he hugged Cheryl and Drew afterwards. I get the impression that he really enjoyed being on the show and bonded with Cheryl and many of the others.

I just read that the day after Wayne Newton was voted off DWtS, he was diagnosed w/ pneumonia. That would mean that when he performed w/ Drew and Cheryl and his voice was so not good, that he was very probably on a lot of medication.

Wayne to perform at MGM Grand Hollywood The Wayner will be performing at the MGM Grand’s Hollywood Theatre for one week this summer. He’ll be performing at 8:30 p.m. July 31 through Aug. 6.
Vegas icon Wayne Newton, who gained some widespread publicity last year appearing on “Dancing With the Stars,” waltzed away from an engagement at the Flamingo in November.
He blamed the cancellation on a heart virus.
But apparently his heart didn’t affect his feet as he traveled the country making appearances soon after the cancellation.
An announcement about the upcoming show at the MGM should be made next week. He’s scheduled to perform Oct. 16-22 and Nov. 13-19 at the MGM Grand.
