Anyone see this? It's in Nickelodeon in the mornings. SO trippy. The show is basically an Atari game come to life. With a DJ straight out of Deee-Lite and lots of insane/weird stuff. I can't decide if I think it's the coolest show on television, or really annoying and sure to give my daughter a serious case of ADHD.

I'm glad someone finally started a topic for this... you know, because heaven forbid I should do it. Anyway, despite being in my 30s with no kids, I've totally Season Passed this. I was reeled in after I read an interview with the creator who said he was trying to capture the feeling of things like Sid and Marty Krofft shows and Pee-Wee's Playhouse. I also see a lot of Banana Splits in it too. I love all the catchy songs ("There's a party in my tummy. So yummy! So yummy!") and I predict that "My name is Kelly - I like to dance" will be my new catchphrase.

That's the first thing my husband and I said when we watched this morning after seeing it featured on The Soup last night.
I have to say that my kids weren't impressed. My 9 year old declared it creepy and my 2 year old lost interest almost immediately. My husband is probably still cowering in a corner - I think it's giving him flashbacks.

My girls all love this show after just a few airings. I find it fascinating in a bizarre way. Its creepy but at the same time I want to keep watching. Unless its the first episode that you have watched over and over and over because your husband is a softy when it comes to his kids. Then it starts to lose some of its 'charm'.

This was the most bizarre thing I have seen in a long time. I can't decide if that's a good thing or not. DJ Lance is creepy and looks like he's lip-synching.
Mark Mothersbaugh's drawing time was SO Bill Cosby's Picture Pages. (I know you remember that!!)
And WTF was Elijah Wood doing there? Did he lose a bet? Is his brother a producer? Dude!

Our household loves this, it's probably doomed to low ratings. We've season-passed it and we don't have kids.
We've decided the whole thing is a big playback festival because they can't record the character voices from inside the suits, so DJ Lance is also lip syncing in the scenes where he appears with the characters.

Okay, after several airings, I have decided I love this show, and Gracie (my almost-two year old) loves it. She screeches and says "GABBA!" when the DJ guy comes along at the beginning of the show. Even my husband likes it, even though he thought it was way too weird in the beginning.
Today there was some good music on the show- the girl band on the little TV singing about pajamas, and there was that the little cartoon at the beginning of the show.
Our babysitter is from India and she cracks UP every time this show is on. Between this and the original Willy Wonka (which she also loves), she must think we expose my kid to the craziest stuff.
ZZZRRRRRRZIP - wait a second- you mean Mark Mothersbaugh, as in composer Mark Mothersbaugh? That's kinda cool, you have to admit!

ZZZRRRRRRZIP - wait a second- you mean Mark Mothersbaugh, as in composer Mark Mothersbaugh?
Yep. Also as in Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh. And I agree- totally cool. Hearing that he would make an appearance is what made me want to watch. The show otherwise is totally whack. My 2 ˝ year old goes into a trance when it is on. I like the Jumpy Jump song- although that may change if it remains stuck in my head for much longer.
And I agree with
kellygirl- I need to work “my name is Mona Lisa! I like to dance!” into everyday use.

For an aging hipster, half the fun is trying to catch all the cameos/contributions/appearances. Yesterday's cartoon lullaby was Mark Kozelek from the band Red House Painters. And in an earlier ep, I saw Leslie from Leslie and the Lys. The one I missed (didn't slo-mo the credits) was who the Asian drummer girl was.

I happened upon the end of an episode, and I sat there staring with my mouth hanging open right to the end. This is one of the freakiest, creepiest kids shows I've ever seen.
But I couldn't turn the channel, no matter how horrified I was. So, if nothing else, the show is captivating.
And it did feel like something straight out of the 70s. So, if that's what they were going for, they succeeded.

Okay, today's show had a theremin on it. I mean... just, thank you, YGG creators. How else was my child going to be exposed to a theremin besides me trying to explain it to her, which she wouldn't get anyway, 'cause she's not even two yet? Not a guitar, or a flute, or a triangle, but a theremin.
I don't know. I'm 33, and it seems like it's the first show that is totally geared for both my age group and our kids. I love the Atari bits, and the wind up toys the kids are superimposed on. The bands and music are awesome. My kid doesn't scream when it's on. It's all good.
Of course, I run out of steam on all Gracie's shows. So I have no idea when YGG's expiration date might be. But I'm along for the ride for now.
And it did feel like something straight out of the 70s. So, if that's what they were going for, they succeeded.
To me, it's more like the REALLY early eighties, before it all became "The 80's". Does that make any sense? Like that weird period between decades when everything was still really awe-inducing. Before we expected more technological advances and better videos on MTV, etc.
A THEREMIN, I tell you!

Something about Yo Gabba Gabba makes me want to poke out my senses with a barbecue fork the way Boobah and the Teletubbies do. I think it's the foam creatures in suits.
Unfortunately, my son just can't get enough of it. That stupid "There's a party in my tummy! So yummy! So yummy yummy!" song will get stuck in my son's head and we've had several parties in tummies around here. Sigh.
Maybe I just don't "get" YGG, but I really prefer shows like Jack's Big Music Show, that can still be cute for kids and not make the parents want to start drinking very early in the day.

Love this freaking show. I can't explain it. I Tivo'd it after seeing the clip on The Soup, expecting everything to be as creepy as Elijah Wood doing the "Puppetmaster." But I was really pleasantly surprised by the show. My son, who is almost two, has shown no interest in TV (and we've kept him away from TV as much as possible so he won't end up on message boards all day when he should be working) saw 30 seconds of the wiggle dance and got hooked. This is now his once a week TV reward show.

My 2 year-old can do a call back when I sing "There's a party in my tummy..." It's so cute, it's insane. The song is annoying, but I love that the fruit and veg cry when they aren't included in the party.
She was freaked out by the show at first, but now she really likes it. I mostly enjoy it--I wish they would drop the "Martian Girl" comic book bit (not funny or clever, IMHO) and I really wish they would figure out their sound issues. Why are they having DJ Lance re-record his dialogue? It's annoying and fake sounding/looking. I hope that stops eventually.

I just saw an episode that had a group called Supernova performing on the Super Music Friends Show (I think that is what the segment is called). Are they the guys that successfully sued Mark Burnett over his Rockstar:Supernova debacle? It’s pretty funny that they fought so hard to protect their rights in their name, and the next place you see them is on a trippy kids tv show.
By the way- the show is infinitely better after a glass of wine. Or so I hear . . .

I watched this show for the first time today with my 4 year and I really wanted to like it, but dang, the songs are very repetitive and they begin to sound the same after awhile. All my kids now regularly sing the "party in my tummy" song, which has actually been--I can't believe it--pretty effective in getting them to eat their veggies.
My 3-year-old has really taken to this show, and it is the cutest thing ever to hear her name all the various characters, which have very silly names ("Brobee" and "Toodee", eg) that sound adorable when toddlers say them. I make her do it all the time lately.

Oh my God, my 4 year old has totally fallen in love with this show, and we have only seen 1 episode. About 75 times, that is. Sometimes while it's still playing On Demand, she will even go to the computer and open up Nick Jr., go to Yo Gabba Gabba and play particular other parts over and over again. Yo Gabba Gabba in stereo ... and since most of the songs are so short and repetitive, it's almost like there is a "Row Row Row Your Boat" thing going on in the house. I didn't even think until today to DVR other episodes, since the "eat" episode's popularity remains undiminished. My older two kids are already starting to come up with jokes, like "come on, mom, KFC really wants to go to the party in my tummy tonight" and "TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT" ....
Watching this show as an adult, I'd think it was the dumbest thing ever, but I forget how much preschoolers crave the repetition. To say that this show gives kids repetition is a total understatement ... and I think it beats Teletubbies for teaching language.
The DJ gives off creepy Jimmy "JJ" Walker vibes to me, but my little one seems to like him.
I think Yo Gabba Gabba toys are on our holiday list this year for sure. I was surprised to see they haven't even come out yet - I'd buy them right now.

I'm a little concerned about the show's status. There haven't been many new episodes and a few times my TiVo picked up Wonder Pets in YGG's scheduled spot (ugh). PLEASE don't cancel this.
Like the rest of you, all three of us have been humming, singing, and shouting various things from this show. SO much better than the Elmo song to the tune of "Jingle Bells". So so so so much better.

I went to the beach with my sister, her husband, and my nephew, and YGG was second only to that one episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse where Goofy gets stuck on Mars. Seriously, he's nutso for it. He dances along and everything, so I really hope they keep it on.

We are hooked on this show too. My little guy stops whatever he is doing if he sees DJ Lance come on. I noticed the tivo getting wonderpets too, so I looked at the guide, and they changed the time on YGG. its on like an hour later now. Anyhow, with the line of toys coming out this christmas I doubt they are taking it off this early. Seems to me they are doing one week of new shows, one of repeats, and so on. So far the best ep. is the Dance one, I totally love the jumping jellyfish!

See, the vibe I got from the DJ was more of Dee-Lite circa late 80's early 90's.
But the show freaked me out big time! The whole Party in My Tummy Yummy Yummy thing was the stuff that my nightmares are made of! Shrill repetitive music and weirdly animated, talking food.

Okay, so today I started a nanny job and the boy I was taking care of begged to watch YGG. I watched it with him and think I was more fascinated then he was! If this show sinks, we are (Cordless drilled).
My daughter LOVES this show, we are now in a constant loop of Yo Gabba Gabba Halloween ... we have only had 2 episodes of YGG that have made it to On Demand by Comcast.
Just as a throw out there, my daughter was adopted from a country with a different language ... she has gravitated towards this show like nothing I have seen since ... she did not like Teletubbies, she DID like Dora, she DID like WonderPets .... I think it's the repetition for her.
I love Nick Jr. and Noggin.
I raised my other kids on PBS and Disney ... I have switched to Nick Jr. and Noggin for my youngest these days. PBS is great, but my daughter doesn't like those shows, for whatever reason. (Could be a boy-girl thing.) Disney doesn't have what my daughter wants at this point, for whatever reason.
TV people reading this, for whatever reason, my daughter is is 5 years old, adopted from a foreign country as a baby, 4 years ago, and today, we can't get enough of YO GABBA GABBA. We listen to it 10 hours a day, and then we keep listening to it, because the songs play in Mommy and Daddy's heads while we are sleeping.
Anyway, please, take note of the fact that there is a potential breakthrough with children who have had an upbringing with a different language.
And we thought the Teletubbies were going to drive us crazy.

The party in my tummy has helped us get her to finish her food, and the "happy thoughts" song has gotten us through more than one sleepless night!
Plus, any show that features Biz Markie and the Aquabats is OK with me.

I've been subject to a lot of bad kids' shows over the past three years, but Yo Gabba Gabba takes the cake for songs that just REFUSE to vacate my head, no matter what. I probably have three or four of them bouncing around up there at any given time.
I'm so glad new episodes are on this week. Although they did reuse the "Don't stop, don't give up!" song yesterday when Muno was teaching Foofa how to fasten her seatbelt!
We definitely use The Party in My Tummy (So yummy! So yummy!) song when my three year-old won't eat something on his plate. It works! Thanks DJ Lance (whose eyes never seem to blink, ever)!

Okay I have a question. I was watching last Friday's episode that had Sugarland on it and towards the end, they had the kids making funny faces. The face they started doing was putting their thumb up to their nose and wiggling the fingers. Someone please correct me but I thought that was a gesture that was similar to flipping the bird. Did anyone see the episode I'm talking about? What does everyone think?
