The new show starring the Project Runway mentor/Liz Claiborne Chief Creative Officer starts on September 6. The commercials make it look interesting at least. Hopefully the show is too.
BMcGee
It sounds like a more sophisticated version of TLC's What Not To Wear, and I too am looking forward to it!

I particularly hope that the fabulous Tim avoids the tendency to standardize all the makeovers, a la Stacy and Clinton, who seem to have fairly narrow standards of "appropriate," which they try to apply to every body type and lifestyle. At least Tim is unlikely to put everyone, from artists to electricians, in office-ready preppie layers.

I can't wait! Carry on, Tim!
Twigs
I like Tim Gunn as much as anyone else, but I feel that they might overuse one of their stars. Tim is awesome and I'll watch the show, but I really hope that they don't overexpose him and make him into a charectar. It happens alot.

That being said, I will watch this happily and cry over the state of my wardrobe, which currently consists of tacky jeans and t-shirts with one-liners Bedazzled across the front.
Honey Wheeler
I like Tim Gunn in small doses, but after three seasons of PR I think he's turned into a caricature of himself. I think he has a lot of expertise to offer, as long as the personality doesn't overwhelm the information he's imparting.
BoozeGood
It may be naive, but something about the unilateral consistency of Tim, from the first episode of season 1 to now suggests to me that he really IS that person we see on TV. I, however, am a little bit concerned about Tim on this show because he's not, in his words, a big float in the parade and will he be able to mug and do all the silly things that normally lead to ratings? I'm not sure. I will watch it though as just a substitute for PR until it hits.
fposte
Shoot, and I'd kind of kicked the Bravo habit.

Much as I love Tim, I found his book quite disappointing, and this sounds similar enough that I'm worried.
LizDC
Here's a preview from Bravo.

September 6 is my birthday. Aww... I get a Tim Gunn Bday!
Decormaven
Oh, please, please, please let this show be witty, charming, and full of practical style pointers, and blessedly low on mugging, swoopy camera angles, and high-fives.
Anakerie
My only hope?

One of the things that I DESPISE about WNTW is the fact that these people are treated as cretins because they don't have $5000 to spend on new clothes every few months. The make-overs are a temporary fix: when those expensive clothes wear out most of these people aren't going to have the funds to replace them.

Please let Tim's make-overs include a more believable price-range. I don't mean that he has to dress everyone in thrift-store items (although I love thrift stores) but could we try a little reality in our reality TV for a change?
7LeafClover
and high-fives.

I kind of want to see Tim Gunn give someone a high-five though. It would be so out of character and unrefined. It doesn't have to happen every episode but just once.

I'm looking forward to this one. TG has described the show as more "fashion therapy" than makeover, which leads me to believe that it will be less WNTW-like. Plus, honestly, after observing three seasons of TG on PR, I can't imagine him putting his stamp of approval on a piece of crap, clothing OR television show-wise. I always find that his critiques are dead-on on PR, and I totally think this is going to be great.

Plus, it's almost been a year since PR3 ended, and my ears are crying out for a nice, soothing, "Make it work!"
Grasonville
Looking forward to this - and I second the hope for a wardrobe that suits the lifestyle of the makeover people
nightngle
I'm really looking forward to this show, considering a few of the previews I've seen, and because I need fashion advice. One of the preview snippits I'm most intrigued with was showing Tim sketching over a line drawing of a woman's body type, showing the cuts of clothing that would best suit that body. I'd love to see that kind of thing for lots of body types! It seems to me that would be a very practical tool when shopping, quite unlike the Stacy and Clinton single style for every person cami under a blazer look. I haven't seen Tim's book, but perhaps this is included... if so, I'm ordering it - I need wardrobe help!
itsirku
I just watched the previews--the first one is a longer commercial that I hadn't seen on TV yet--I highly suggest watching it. It gives you a better idea of what the show will be like.

As nightngle mentioned, the body sketch/drawing thing looked intriguing.

Also, they seem to have a Clean Sweep (old TLC show) thing going on with the person's wardrobe. They have to divide their clothes into keep, mend, toss and giveaway piles. On Clean Sweep, the homeowners were decluttering their house, so they had to empty two rooms of stuff onto the front yard and divide everything into keep, sell and toss piles.

Well, I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much because I don't want them to be horribly dashed and potentially not like Tim Gunn anymore. Oh, the horror! On the plus side, he does seem like his lovely self in the preview.
carmelized
I can't wait for this. Tim Gunn always has been my favorite part of Project Runway. I think he gives excellent advice, and he has a calm, soothing demeanor that I love. Veronica Webb seems like a good sidekick. She's been a model for years, and I think she has done some writing as well.

This has the potential to become one of my new favorite shows.
Kaboom
I can't wait either, I heart Tim Gunn. Mr. Kaboom already knows the rule: don't distract me when Tim's onscreen, I want to hear every word, see every facial expression. lol
henrysmom
I'm actually scared to watch this show because I love him so much. Tim Gunn's presence was the only thing that got me through half of Season Three of Project Runway, but even he couldn't keep me watching after that terrible Everyday Woman episode.

I just hope Tim Gunn (for some reason I can't refer to him as Tim--I feel as if I should call him Mr. Gunn) doesn't disappoint when he is on for an entire hour rather than just in snippets.
Circus Poodle
I finally figured out who Tim Gunn reminds me of. As a kid, I watched that cartoon with Sherman and the Wayback Machine. Tim Gunn reminds me of the professorial pooch, Peabody.
Kaboom

OMG you're right. Now if Tim would only say "shut up, you" to a PR contestant...

Interview with Tim!
buyitnow
I hope he doesn't dumb down his vocabulary, it's part of his wonderfulness. He's less about what's the current fashion and more about what's suitable for the individual person.

Honestly, on WNTW I can't see a middle-aged woman in some camisole getup.... "mutton dressed as lamb" as Tim might say. Yet they push these ridiculous looks. And nothing but awful pointed shoes suitable for the Wicked Witch of the West. I hope Tim's advice is more universal and timeless.
mymelody
I think Tim is fabulous in his rather European, old-school approach to dressing and building a wardrobe. People used to dress better AND have a smaller wardrobe than people nowadays, the main reason being quality mattered over quantity. I hope Tim practices what he preaches on this show.

What I want to see: 1) Women with diverse budgets (low/ moderate/ high) and style profiles. 2) Teach women what cuts, drapes, shapes, and fits work for their body types and personalities. Show that building a serious wardrobe means knowing basics like good construction vs. bad construction and how to appreciate quality on all budget levels. 3) Help women discover their unique styles and not rely on what's fashionable or trendy.

What I don't want to see: 1) Anything that's too trendy. A lot of the problems with so-called makeover shows is that they simply put women in the latest trendy looks and call it a day. No, just because you look like you could hang with Paris and Nicole doesn't make you well-dressed. It makes you a sad clone. 2) Complete style overhaul...unless the style is indefensible. For example I wear mostly black or dark, muted jewel tones ever since fashion school days. It wouldn't work to make me over into a colorful, bohemian goddess. Hopefull, that's the compromising approach Tim takes. This shouldn't be a Maury makeover show, those dramatic changes never last anyways.

BTW, I find Veronica Webb very likable and intelligent. She's a perfect choice to be Tim's sidekick or girl Friday.
jazmyne
I'm really excited for this show. I thought Tim's book was great, and I think he's a completely charming and witty voice of reason on PR. I'd love for someone like him to go through my wardrobe with me.

Oh, how I wish he would!

Me, too. A little. I loved the previews and have been a die-hard fan of Mr. Gunn's since day one. However, there's a teensy bit of doubt within my soul. I really enjoyed his book and have caught every guest appearance (however fleeting) and interview he's given. I hope and pray the show is a smashing success (WNTW now grates and is a bit outdated) and wish both Tim and Veronica all the luck in the world.

ETA: Loved the comparison of The Divine Mr. Gunn to Mr. Peabody. So dead on.
ThatPoshGirl
Is it just me or does his co-host look like a mannequin?
buyitnow
No, just because you look like you could hang with Paris and Nicole doesn't make you well-dressed. It makes you a sad clone
Or would that be sad clown? I suspect his taste will reflect the urban New York love of black clothes with neutral accents or an occasional "pop" of color. Honestly, if he likes something because it "pops" I'll be so disappointed. I'd expect that of a Carson Kressley or a Stacy London, not the impeccable Tim.

While black clothes are okay they're so cliche. Okay, maybe I'm biased because I mostly wear gray and brown-beiges to conceal cat hair. I'd like to see Tim address that one: building a wardrobe to hide cat fur. I can just see his lips curl in distaste. There are some things that are beyond the pale.
Penelope6
Seriously? Even if the show is a disappointment, I'll still love Tim Gunn. I would hump that man's leg, I love him so.
itsirku

I think its less of a matter of wardrobe and more of a matter of buying stock in those sticky lint rollers and stashing them all over the house and the car. The lint roller in the glove box saved me many a time when I arrived at work and realized that I had cuddled with the cat right before leaving the house. Or wear satin pajamas all the time so the fur doesn't stick.

I read the About section for this show on Bravo and thought this was an interesting part of the show:

Armed with Gunn's rules, each makeover subject is encouraged to get a great pair of jeans, a trying task for any woman.

If they are going for trying tasks for any woman, they should do bra shopping.

Also, it seems pretty focused on women. I wonder if they'll ever do style for men?

Total WORD to all of this! I hate how Stacy basically applies her own personal style to absolutely everyone else, no matter how inappropriate. And I really hate the matronly, unflattering, middle-of-the-road hair-do's they give everyone. On every makeover show, I always wonder about the super expensive hair cuts they give everyone. I have enough trouble trying to get the same hair stylist to reproduce a cut he/she just did on me a few months earlier. How do they expect someone from Bumpkinville, Wherever to ever get another version of their $600 NYC (or London) cut & style? At least the clothes last a while.

Like others say, I'm worried Bravo will overexpose Tim like they've done others (RIP, Queer Eye guys). I'm also worried about "makeovers as therapy". That sounds like what What Not to Wear UK turned into with their theme shows: Women with Mastectomies, Women Going Through Menopause, Recent Widows, etc. I could see the point of it. But I was also unsettled when the hosts were suddenly playing therapists to some people who clearly needed medical help.

I love Tim and I'll check this out. But I kind of worry it's all been done.
Rabrab
My big hope is that Tim doesn't come out with a set of Capital-R Rules for his Make-overs. Guidelines are fine, but Rules don't always work. There are always trade-offs.

And Tim, of all people, should be aware that an outfit that maybe doesn't make you look your absolute best may still make you feel fabulous in a way that a "better" outfit doesn't. For example, pencil skirts look really good on me. But I have yet to find one that makes me feel good about the way I look (and I've got four of them. It's not like I tried one and gave up.) Trumpet skirts, on the other hand, don't look quite as good objectively, but I like the way I feel in them better. I'm more comfortable, more confident, more outgoing in one. I present myself better. That's the kind of thing I'm hoping for from His Gunn-ness.
bigbookworm
What I'd like to see is Tim helping a woman of considerable size to look the best she can without dressing her in a caftan.
itsirku
In the preview/commerical, it looks like they go over the MOs closet in her home. Are they going to be shopping in/near her home town? Or do you think they fly her somewhere to do the shopping.

I vaguely tried to figure out how you applied to be on the show (can you nominate yourself?), but wasn't successfuly finding something on Bravo. I wonder how they'll weed out people who just want to meet Tim Gunn. We can all buy a bunch of ugly themed sweaters and cut holes in our socks and then tell Bravo how much we really, really need Tim Gunn's help.
annalisa
I'm just devastated that Veronica Webb got MY dream job!

Being Tim Gunn's sidekick would be heaven.
EmbiggenedSoul
I caught a preview for this a few days ago, and clearly have not been keeping up on my Bravo because I had no idea the impeccable and divine Tim Gunn was getting his own show. Yay!!!

I am really looking forward to this, the preview looked great!
Circus Poodle
I imagine the first season's make-betters will be friends/distant friends of the crew. This way they find people who won't misbehave around Tim. That's just a wild guess, though.

Maybe next season, they will take applications. I'm hoping this lasts a few seasons, at least. (I doubt I'd apply, though. I'd be too embarrassed. Heaven knows, though, I need a makeover badly.)

I'm finally getting around to reading Tim Gunn's book and he specifically mentions that wearing a muumuu, tent, housedress, etc is not the way to deal with your figure. Hopefully that transfers well to the show and he can find some great fitting clothes for people of all body types.

He also mentions that you should cut all the size tags out of your clothes as soon as you get home if you're upset about the sizes. Suddenly, I pictured a show segment where Tim Gunn takes a scissors to the MOs clothes and starts snipping out all of the size tags because they whined too much about the sizes.

Saw a promo tonight that said the PR4 designers will be introduced on Tim's show.
audrey hepburn
Great interviews with Tim. Thanks, LizDC & Firelands.
I'm now feeling a lot better about his new show and PR4 cannot come soon enough!
Circus Poodle
Did the promo state in which episode they will announce the PR4 cast?
Rosanella
I tried to remember that when I posted, but I'm afraid I can't. If I see it again before anyone else, I'll post it.

ETA: Hee, it just came on and they said during the premiere.
Rabrab
Well, I must say, this sounds promising:
Guide To Style is a different iteration of makeover show. The individuals with whom Veronica and I work each week have self-declared their need for help, rather than being the object of an intervention. Veronica and I do not make decisions, nor do we drive up in a van full of clothes. We guide and support and, hopefully, educate. Yes, there is the inevitable shopping journey, but only after several days of lessons.

It's from Tim's interview with Project Rungay.

The self-nomination aspect won't guarantee that the Make-overs will be completely co-operative, but it does make it a little bit more likely. And I really like the sound of going shopping after several days of learning, instead of before.
Sturm und Drang
From the previews, it looks like I haven't seen any participants who are real big yet, but everyone is definitely not a size 2-4. Hard to tell since they weren't shown full-body and there was no real frame of reference next to them, but there are participants who must be like a 12-18 depending how tall they are. Which is more than I can say for PR with the exception of the mom challenge.

I like Tim, so much that my handle is one of his catchphrases! I think he's a smart guy, and knows the difference between shopping to look good, and sewing something that the PR judges will like. I'm excited for the show.
buyitnow
I wonder if they'll have some contest where the winner will have His Gunn-ness do an Immaculate Gunn-ception Closet Intervention. Where do I sign up?

I hope he gets some rest finally, he sounded exhausted in the interviews. At least PR4 and his show are wrapped so he has a chance to breathe.

I was setting my DVR to record the first episode when I noticed that there are hours in a row scheduled on Bravo--10 PM -- 1AM. Does anyone know if it's the same show repeated or if they are actually showing 3 episodes in a row?
GoldberryWaits
It seems like it's "make sure no one can miss it" block repeating. All of the episodes are listed as:
Rebecca Pennino, a style-challenged woman from Hoboken, N.J., who regularly wears jeans and T-shirts, receives a fashion makeover courtesy of Tim Gunn and Veronica Webb. Included: Pennino goes shopping for undergarments.

That's not just the 10, 11, and midnight showings, but the 2 & 9am, noon, and 5 pm on Friday episodes, too (and the next 12 airings up until a new episode at 10 the next Thursday with JeAnne). Source: Yahoo!TV
Kteach
Thanks, my DVR didn't give a program description so I couldn't see if they were all the same. I know BRAVO does a lot of repeats but I thought it was very strange that they would show it 3 times in a row.
