The talk show

Get ready- The fun begins on Mon, August 20th!

Here's the trailer from Court TV
Meedis
Wow...can't wait to see the snarkfest.
Cypher21
It's odd, as I watched that trailer, she is very unattractive skinny. I've never found her as a standout in the looks dept, but she looked much better when she had some meat on her bones, but that's me. I've always had one question, if she finally came to the decision to have gastric bypass, why did she wait till after she was married? She seems the type that would do that and then get married, but whatever.

I'm running off to program my VCR. Meet you back here on Monday!
canuck027
The preview freaked me out. Shit, give that woman a fn doughnut!
feminaformosa
I will have to watch this show just to stay current on the snark.

Congratulations Star. There were those in the media who said you wouldn’t get another job. There were those in the media who said you crossed Barbara Walters, when she’s the one that crossed you. They were wrong the first time and they’re still wrong. Glad to see you back. You are looking good, better than ever.
TheLady2
There were those in the media who said you wouldn’t get another job.

It's Court TV, where she started off.
SiliconVallyToo
It will be interesting to see if she is as rude to guests on this new little adventure as she was to View guests she negatively prejudged or just didn't care for; or conversely just how nauseatingly sycophantic she is when one of her very bestest celebrity friends is a guest. Is this new gig live? Let's see if she still likes to storm off the stage in a huff on live TV if she decides she just doesn't care for an invited guest.

Blech.
redbirds
Looking at her now I understand why she was against telling people she had gastric bypass surgery. It would scare off potential candidates. if they thought they would turn out like that.

She doesn't look healthy that skinny wither. there has to be a happy median for her.
LNahid2000
This show will probably be more entertaining than The View is at the moment. Too bad I don't get Court TV.
taosgirl
I have a $20 bet with a friend that Big Gay Al will be listed as a producer.

I hate to admit how much I am looking forward to this show. I'm sure many viewers will watch it the same way lots of people watch Semi-Ho Made.
TTyT321
I just watched the preview, did anyone else notice how pencil thin her neck is? My god how does she eat solid foods? Any other network and I think this new Star show wouldn't work, but because it is CourtTV and this is what she knows best, I think the show should be okay (or at the least very snarkable).
Tosia
Very funny, redbirds and so true, taosgirl!

Maybe Star can get gastric bypasses on her tremendous ego, astounding denial about Big Gay Al. greed for freebies, and suck-upie-ness to friends.

Bawa is senile but no one is indispensable, even Rosie, although I liked the repeat yesterday on the View. I will have to check if I get Court TV. I like Judge Judy's smackdown, but the other judges don't impress me--so what makes Star's show different?

Anyone have an idea of the format?
mtru
because it is CourtTV and this is what she knows best, I think the show should be okay

Star worked for NBC and other television jobs and as a prosecutor. She’s got skills where she could do a number of different jobs. There’s far less talented people working on CNN and Fox and other news channels right now. She’s back at Court TVand I think it’s great. They could have hired other people but they didn’t, they wanted Star.
Maybe Star can get gastric bypasses on her tremendous ego, astounding denial about Big Gay Al.

What does Al have to do with a TV show? If she’s in denial that denial has worked well enough for them to still be together despite rag mags, internet rumors and useless gossip columnists. Whatever Al’s problems are, they’re his. If it was possible to get gastric bypasses on tremendous egos, there would be an excessively huge number of people in line who would need it far more than Star Jones.
PissyMissy
Oh, come on, Star doesn't look freakishly thin. My guess is that she's at a healthy weight like 120 or so and just seems thinner becuase she had big features, like those big eyebrows and nose, and becuase we're used to seeing her in drag with her huge weave and over the top makeup. IMO she looks pretty good now. I think its anti-fat prejudice coming out: you aren't good enough to be on TV when you're so fat and when you loose the weight and are still meatier than 3/4 the women on TV you're "too thing and unhealthy looking" but what is really being said is that once you are fat thats it you'll never be good enough to be seen on the beautiful people box. If she gained 10 lbs people would start bitching again about how she's a fat sow.

I'll be interested to see how Star's demenor changes when she's happier and in charge, beause while I thought she was intelligent on the View, she was annoying as hell, but she might not be if she's not putting up with Nana and Joy every day.

redbirds, I'm guessing this is the link you wanted to post. The one you put now shows an equally hillarious story about Lily Allen as the face of Chanel.

Looks like it's gonna be a Maury type as she is advertising for parents of overweight children and couples experiencing a 3 yr itch in their marriage to be guests on the show.

ETA- Here is a show topic that is being discussed at the Court TV message boards:

They just ran an ad on Court TV, with Starr asking for folks who let their children drink and have sex in their homes to call in and let her know, and implying that they may be invited in to be a guest.

RobertBlue, ROTFLMAO! That is hysterical. Every picture and every caption.

Her new show is going to have to be brilliant, ground breaking television to erase the scary image Star has cultivated.

Nothing has changed...

There is a *Star* for a Day sweepstakes mentioned at Court TV

As I said I did not care for Star after she met Al, she was boring and she got irritating with her bragging. But she never did deny gastric bypass. I never remember her saying she did not have it. In fact I remember after quiting the View she was on the Today show talking to Al Roeker about her surgery, since he recommended the doctor she had.

I know this is "television without pity", but I happen to like Star. I know she's going to get ripped up by some, but at least it should be based on something she actually did. You are right -- she never did lie about having surgery and I hate the way the media is perpetuating that she was deceitful now that she made an official announcement about her surgery. She was vague, but she always said doctors stepped in to save her life from day one. Star is a lawyer and she knows how to be careful with her words as to not tell a lie. She made her comments and people drew their own conclusions which isn't her fault. I will NEVER understand why people care so much about her weight loss methods. Even if she had lied about it, I still wouldn't care -- it's her body and her business. Star didn't lie and she still retains the utmost credibility.
Trikywu
That emaciated neck, which doesn't seem to mesh with her body, is so frightening to me, I think I'll give this show a pass.

Seriously: The topic is the Star Jones show.

If you have nothing at all to say about the Star Jones show, don't post.

And considering several people here have already gotten multiple warnings for going wildly off-topic in The View thread, you really ought to know better than to do the exact same thing here.

It'll be interesting to me to see if Star Jones can make a go of this show. As much as I came to dislike her towards the end of her stint on The View, I did like her when she first started on that show. Although she did deserve a lot of the scorn she got for her over-the-top behavior regarding her wedding and all her celebrity ass-kissing, she hopefully learned a lesson and will put it to use on her new show. She was rightfully taken down a peg, and from her new look, it's obvious that she's willing to tone it down, at least in regards to her appearance. It remains to be seen if her makeover is more than skin deep.

I'll be happy for her if she has really made a turnaround, and brings some of the personality I once liked to this show. I won't lose any sleep if she doesn't, but I do like to see most people get a second chance, if they learned from their screw-up, and if they sincerely want to do better.

To me, Star is a cautionary tale about how far you can fall if you let success go to your head. She got humbled, and now she has an opportunity to undo some of the damage to her reputation. I don't know if she can do it, but time will tell.

Another reason I'm tentatively rooting for Star is that I hated how Barbara Walters tried to act like Lady Bountiful in the fallout after Star's firing from The View. I don't disagree with the decision to fire Star. If TPTB felt that was best for the show, it was their right not to renew her contract. I just thought that Barbara was phony and self-righteous about the whole thing, and I got a bit of satisfaction when Star turned the tables and announced that she was leaving the show when she wanted to, not when TPTB wanted her to. I've come to dislike Barbara Walters as much or more than I ever disliked Star, so it also gives me satisfaction to know that Barbara & Co. didn't have the last word on her career.

I doubt if I'll ever become a real fan of Star's again, but I'll take her over Barbara any day.
Tanya1959
Court TV isn't taking a chance with her, financially speaking. I read somewhere that she gets paid proportionately as to how well the show does. On the other hand if the show takes off and does remarkably well she stands to make big $$$$$$.

I for one will not be tuning in but will monitor tis board in case it turns out that the snark value is worth it.

More on the show:

"I told them I don't want to do screaming TV, fighting TV, insulting TV," says Jones, "and I don't want to do gossip." She chuckles ruefully. "I think I've been the subject of enough of it that I know what it makes other people feel like."

Interview with Star
mtru
All Star is, is a celebrity but apparently she represents more to some people. I look forward to her show because I think she is a great interviewer. There are many other snarkable shows with pompous, self righteous, fatuous windbags like Joy Behar, Anderson Cooper, John Stewart and so many more. I want to see Star’s show because I love the work she did on the View. Most days she was the most competent person working. Barbara was all over the place and the rest of them aren’t even worth mentioning. She has taken stock of her life and has a realistic perspective. She’s not the same person that she was on the View. She’s been attacked for doing virtually nothing. As for over the top behavior and celebrity ass kissing, that is most of television now a days. I’ve seen the ladies of the View kiss ass, I’ve seen Rosie’s over the top and down right crazy behavior. Find me a talk show host that doesn’t kiss ass and they don’t have a show. Star Jones is a black woman who was picked on for getting married and losing weight. Last time I checked neither one is illegal or immoral. It’s funny how some people are held to extremely high standards while others are held to none.
osowolf
I used to really enjoy Star when she was on the View. And then she became Kathy Lee Gifford.

I'd like to think that maybe she learned something, but based on the "contest"? I don't think so. I'm giving her a chance though.
Scorpio79
I'll be watching as well. Star was always a great interviewer on The View and knew how to make the guests feel comfortable. Sometimes, she would even have to clean up after another co-host insulted a guest, as was the case when Joy insulted Sophia Loren. The reason so many guests gravitated towards Star is because she put them in the best light. Star always said that it's good to have something to fall back on and she's displaying that by using her law degree at the present time. She's a smart lady. I like her logical approach to things.
carmelized

Off the top of my head, I'd say Martha Stewart, Charlie Rose, and David Letterman don't kiss ass. I don't get to see that many talk shows these days, but I don't think every talk-show host blatantly kisses ass the way Star used to do, and she was at her worst when she had that red-carpet gig on E!

There's a big difference in showing respect for a guest and practically slobbering over them. Star often went overboard, IMO, and I hope she dials it down a notch on her new show. Just because other hosts kiss ass, it doesn't excuse any of them, and Star is one of them.

David Letterman kissed Oprah’s ass for well over a decade until she finally came on his show. After her appearance Letterman and Dr. Phil continued to slobber over Oprah. Letterman also had to kiss Oprah’s ass in order for her to do the Super bowl commercial on CBS which is Letterman’s home station. Letterman proves that he needed Oprah a lot more than she needed him and he’s more than willing to kiss ass if it suits his purpose. He also did it with Johnny Carson while he was alive and after he died. I’ve seen Charlie Rose fawn over guests and I know I’ve seen Martha Stewart kiss the butt of a chef on her show and I’ve only seen a few shows. Star Jones didn't’ do anything that’s unusual for a talk show host. She was great at making her guests feel comfortable and that will continue on her new show.
carmelized

David Letterman's thing with Oprah was more of a schtick, IMO. Generally, though Dave can be complimentary to guests, I don't see him as a chronic ass-kisser. He's been quite snarky over the years. Maybe Martha Stewart has indeed fawned over a chef, but she also famously took Lindsay Lohan to task for being a party girl. Charlie Rose asks penetrating, insightful questions. Your examples don't change my opinion. I think there's a huge difference between being someone who might fawn over a guest sometimes and someone who is perceived as a general ass-kisser most of the time.

Anyway, I was talking about what I see as a serious failing on Star's part in the past as far as her interviewing skills, which I hope she addresses. I know ass-kissing in show business is rampant, but some are more skillful than others at doing it with a light touch.

IMO, Star Jones took celebrity ass-kissing to a very uncomfortable level, especially on the red carpet. Perception is very important. Star was so bad with the ass-kissing and sucking up on the red carpet, that I had to turn away from the spectacle.

Star Jones is a black woman who was picked on for getting married and losing weight. Last time I checked neither one is illegal or immoral. It’s funny how some people are held to extremely high standards while others are held to none.

I don't know who you are talking about, those people who are held to no standards. I think everyone in the public eye gets snarked on, I haven't seen anyone spared. You seem to think everything Star does is above reproach, which is your right, but I don't happen to agree. She gave the public a lot of ammunition to criticize, and criticize they did. Some went too far in my view, but Star was hardly blameless. I don't hate Star, and I do wish her luck with her new show. To me, it wasn't that she got married or that she lost weight. It was the way she acted in reference to both of those things that I didn't like.
dougfir
As annoying as Star could be, she might have just enough going for her to make this show a hit. The same couldn't be said for Elizabeth "Gladys Kravitz" Hasslebeck.

LMAO I love your nickname and ITA. Star was no way even close to being as bad as Bitsy. I did find her irritating when she just turned so different all of a sudden with her weight loss and her relationshp with Al. but I think if they had worked with her and talked to her, rather than just fire her, she would have been ok. I think Barbara was horrible and so were all of TPTB at the View, and I am glad Star is picking herself up, and I am not sad to see the View falling apart over and over. What goes around comes around, and Star IMO got a very raw deal

I also saw Star on GMA today and I really did respect her more. She did go through a huge psychological change and it seems like therapy has helped her to use her intelligence to get a lot of insight.

Star on GMA is pure, unadulterated BS schmooze--the same soft, modulated voice she used with Larry King. Very rehearsed down to the taking off the glasses. She did not even answer the questions. BS. Star is all about the BS spin that lawyers use to twist words to put forth a perspective, or view if you will, to sway a jury. I guess I prefer plain talk, and truth, because the spin implies that people are stupid and will fall for that crap--and yes, people who are trusting do fall for it, or maybe they hear what they want.

Worse than Bitsy Kravitz? No, but that's not saying much at all. Bad interviewing is just lazy, lack of prep, and self-absorption. Too bad their God doesn't "bless" them with clarity and concern for others.

Star was an ass-kisser to the nth degree. She wanted into the big kids fame club. However, on the red carpet or the View, the interview always reverted back to Star and her relationship with this celeb--rather than focus on the celeb. That is why she was canned on the Red Carpet. It was all about Star, not the celebs. Lord, what an ego.

Her huge ego also feeds her denial with Big Gay Al. I mean, please. Let's hope her new thin self will begin to see the facts about him and support her self-esteem to dump his lame ass (he quit his "job" remember soon after linking up with her), and get some guy who may be able to give Star some self-respect and credibility.

IMHO, same, same, same. Pretentious egocentric quasi spin doctor. Wizard of Oz so blinded by her self absorption that she can't see that the curtain has blown up and revealed her. Trying so hard to convince the public that she is just loveable ole Star, and falling so short. And she just can't quite figure out why she is failing. Sad.

Stay tuned. She's telling her big bypass "secret" for some PR. Maybe she'll tell more "secrets" about her husband if she needs a ratings boost.

She's like a rash that won't go away, and she looks freakishly animated. Now she's going for the serious look with her stupid glasses and blonde hair. Gag. By the way, her size eight claim is looking more like the low teens.
