From Zap2it:
Chef Ramsay combines the remaining five chefs into one team; the chefs must compete head-to-head with individual dishes to impress trendsetters; two contestants have a heated power-struggle; chef Ramsay makes a heartfelt offer.
TWoP Nikita
Hi, folks. Before the posting about the episode starts, I want to point out other threads where certain topics not directly relevant to this episode should be discussed instead.

Discussion of previews for upcoming episodes should go in the Speculation thread. Discussion of upcoming episodes that involves knowledge of spoilers needs to stay in the Spoiler thread. If talk about food moves away from focus on this episode and becomes food talk in general, it should go in the Kitchen Basics thread. The same is true of discussion about contestants: if it strays from focus on this episode and becomes contestant talk in general, it needs to go in the appropriate contestant thread.

Thanks.

I thought Julia would win the High School challenge, because an average high schooler would choose Waffle House food over something fancy on an average day. However, I was still disappointed in her grilled cheese sandwich. Surely even the Waffle House menu can offer something a bit more interesting.
Besides, I remember High School lunch. I was starving, a grilled cheese sandwich wouldn't be enough to last me the rest of the day.

Rock, you have been scheming since the moment you got to Hell's Kitchen, so don't even fucking dare bitch at Bonnie for not taking the heat for you. And as for "I've never put anyone down to make myself look good" - bullshit. Why didn't you help Josh last week? Hypocritical ass.

I was afraid that if Bonnie would put up Julia, she'd go home. But it was nice to see that everyone's expectations were correct - Gordon Ramsay really does appreciate her talent so much that he'll personally invest in her career and education. With culinary school as well as this experience under her belt, she'll be great.

P.S. Two women and a man again for top 3.
P.P.S. Previews: BONNIE yelling at Chef Ramsay? Woah.
mak224
Don't give a crap who wins now.
crystalsage
I cried when Julia was eliminated, but I was also touched bt Grrr's "gesture." I hate Rock.
MyEyesSee
Say it ain’t so! We all knew it could happen, but damn. Julia’s my girl. .

Get out! GET OUT! Damn, Josh, you’re a bloody sous chef. How could you screw up spaghetti and risotto after all this time? He and Rock should have just had a dick measuring contest and been done with it.

I used to like Rock, but he’s an ass.

I hate all the others: Jen the garbage girl, Bonnie who’s never worked in a real professional kitchen and Rock, the ass. Blech!
mtlchickie
It was the best of eliminations, it was the worst of eliminations.

Thankful that Josh is finally tossed, but Julia...ah well. Her one really bad service and she had to go. But glad to see as many have predicted that GRr sees talent in her and is sending her to cunilary school a la Troy on The Apprentice 1. Love you, Waffle House lady!

Meanwhile, Bonnie is still here. And Rock is still scary.
TVGuy88
Josh being literally thrown out... HOLY CRAP. That was incredible.

Julia won the challenge with a grilled cheese? I was initially shocked but it was high schoolers judging(I was there not long ago).

Rock vs. Jen... sheesh.

Bye-Bye Julia. I'm very surprised you made it this far... Ramsey's offer was really nice.
sendtoscott
Two eliminations in one night? Won't that throw off the schedule?
Crimson Belle
Didn't Ramsey pretty much invite Julia to be on Hell's Kitchen again after culinary school? At least that means more Julia for us, assuming the show gets renewed.
I Choose Me
Don't give a crap who wins now.

Same here.

Although GR was really really sweet to Julia. Hopefully we'll see her on HK again & watch her win it all.
foultemptress
Aww, Ramsay's soft side almost made me teary. Julia is going to do very well. And, uh, bye, Josh!
Bunny Mittens
a grilled cheese sandwich wouldn't be enough to last me the rest of the day.

It had chicken in it as well.

i don't care who wins now. The Nanny, the man who needs anger m anagement, or the horse-faced transvestive.

i've lost all faith in Gordon Ramsey.
AwNutz
Holy CRAP! I didn't see the ousting in the middle of service coming. I figured he'd be dumped at the end like normal. The guy sucked, but still. Kinda satisfying, though.

Sorry to see Julia go, but I think I can see the limitations she has right now. While she's got great leadership qualities, and learns quickly, I think there's too much for her to learn to run a fine dining establishment just yet. I think it's wonderful that not only did Ramsay offer to pay her tuition, but told her to try for the show again after she'd completed it. I think she's going to be VERY successful once she gets through culinary school.

Rock couldn't stand having someone stand up to him, and had yet another hissy fit in the kitchen. Jen pisses me off, but I commend her for not letting him walk all over her either.
TorranceShipman
My cold little heart grew ten sizes during the end of the episode; that was quite touching. As if I didn't love GRr enough already!
auntlada
Is it wrong to tear up at a reality show? If it is, well, too bad. I did anyway. And I was pretty sure Julia was leaving from the episode description.

I figured Rock would be the one thrown out of the kitchen, though, because of his temper. Blowing up like that isn't like him? What world is he living in?
kelzoo
Good-bye Julia, you were enjoyed.

I hope you kick ass at culinary school.
Mia Nina
I can't stand Josh, but every single time he got yelled at, I felt so bad for him. Tonight was just woah, poor kid. But, it's the show he signed up for.

Julia..... You're the true winner anyway. Even the Chef knew.

I forgot to add I'm now rooting for Rock.
CarpalFunnel
So bogus. My heart is broken. I could give a crap about these three now.

It would be awesome if Julia did come back in a future season, though.
mustbekarma
I was so proud of Julia. I had a feeling she'd be the one to receive the heartfelt gesture, because everybody else has been an ass at one time or another, and she was consistently a nice person. Leave it to Julia to understand WHO she was cooking for, and her food was the most popular. I love Gordon Ramsey; he saw Julia's potential and it willing to invest in it. For all his demonic screaming, he really can be a class act.

However, it's already been said.

Don't give a crap who wins now.

I'm not watching the show anymore. Julia's gone, so I'm gone.
TVGuy88
Two eliminations in one night? Won't that throw off the schedule?

No. I already checked and the finale will be split over 2 weeks(rather than a 2-hour finale all in one night), so August 13th is the finale.
Readster
Oh Julia, I'm going to miss you. I was afraid she was going to be eliminated if she was put up. I really was hoping she make it to the final 3.

I know I've just had it with him. I really want him to get the hell off the show. I'm not a fan of Jen after her garbage situation but I rather have her or Bonnie win before Rock. Really, Rock just needs to go.
shelly59
Good on ya' Julia. So very happy for her. Rock? Jeebus, what a whiney, hypocritical ass. I hope Bonnie sends him packing next week...
katie1341
I got all weepy when GRrr said he was going to send Julia to culinary school. It obviously killed him to have to eliminate her- he sees a little of himself in her.
thuganomics85
Don't give a crap who wins now.

Seriously. Well, I want Rock/Jen to be the final 2, because as much as I dislike them personally, they've been a lot more solid then Bonnie. Bonnie had a great service, but that doesn't make up her crap services, throughout the show. So, go trashdiver and arrogant jackass, who speaks in third person.

I'm glad Julia went out, on a high note. She really did improve, and I'm glad Gordon saw the talent, people like Tiffany and Melissa, didn't see. Also glad Josh went out, like a punk. Incompetent ass.

Shut up, Rock. You've schemed, throughout this whole show. Your pretty much killing yourself, everytime you speak. You've offically lost me, for good.

No matter how this ends, Juila was the star, and I will feel sorry for Gordon, since he's pretty much picking between crap, spit, and puke.
CarpalFunnel
And Bonnie can go to hell for nominating her.
bsouthgirl
I still don't think that Julia deserved to go before Bonnie, but unfortunately at this point one service, good or bad, can make or break you.
It was actually not very smart of Bonnie to nominate Julia, she should have nominated Jen, and eliminated the more seasoned competitor. But I don't think that any of us are surprised at the ending this week.

Fave moment: GRrrr throws a spoon at Josh on his way out the door.
The Evil One
I just hate that Bonnie is still there rather than Julia. Yes, Rock was a real dick in the kitchen tonight, but looking at a season-long competition, of who is left he and Jen deserve to be there. Bonnie has been terrible over and over and saved by the fact that people were more terrible than she was. I didn't expect Julia to take it all (though I hoped), but to be undone by the girl who throws out good monkfish? Yeesh.

I was touched by GR's gesture towards Julia. I never thought HK could elicit an emotion other than laughter, but damn if GR and Julia's departure didn't do it tonight!
Halloween Mojo
No fucking way. Julia is better than all three of those assholes put together. I feel so badly for GR. He should have ditched Rock's ass, though. Julia is a WAY better cook.

Julia, Julia, Julia. Why on Earth did you have to take Jen to Vegas, of all people? I can think of one billion other things I would rather hear than Jen's voice when she is excited about something.

I still can't stand Jen. Weirdly enough, I was hoping Julia would take Josh, because Jen and Bonnie are so damn snobby with her. And Rock is working my last nerve with his attitude.

But good job Julia. I knew her dish would win. High school kids DO NOT want to eat froufrou goat cheese, no matter how much Bonnie talked up its "fried"-ness.

Scratch that above. I can't stand Jen's voice any time. And was she CHAWING on her gum during service? Gross!

I really thought that GR was going to beat Josh on Josh's way out of the kitchen.

Oh no. Bonnie really is Virginia.

Shut up, Jen. You weren't blameless at all. Yeah, Rock was a total dick, but I didn't exactly see Jen keeping her stupid comments to her stupid self.

Bye Julia. You're awesome.
CJohnson
Julia chose the right kind of thing for the challenge. It provided a nice chance to see what Heather was doing as well.

It was only a matter of time with Josh but that exit was a bit theatrical even for the Chef. Have to wonder if Ramsey had that in the back of his mind if Josh didn't improve to see how the others would adjust to one less person in the middle of a service. I laughed out loud when Rock started talking about teamwork. This from a guy constantly talking about competition and who left Josh out to dry. The fact that he is still around with that 'tude is a testament to how strong he is in the kitchen but he could lose it if he doesn't control himself better than the last few weeks.

I think it became pretty clear how this week was going to play out a few minutes in to the service. I think it was looking more and more likely the last couple of weeks that Julia's lack of knowledge in some areas was going to keep her from winning it, but it was still sad to see her go. I'm glad that she is getting the opportunity to go to culinary school and hope that she does come back on the show.

I'd probably categorize it 1. Jen, 2. Rock, 3. Bonnie, but obviously anybody can win at this point.
Butterfly
What the hell?

Julia wins the challenge but falters on the freaking garnish and is sent home?

That's it. I'm done.

Put a fork in me.

All heartfelt offers aside, I call bullshit.

Rock is an arrogant ass who couldn't lead a team in the kitchen with a map and a search light.

Dumpster Diving Jen. The title says it all.

Bonnie had the best service ever? Really? The powers that be must have left the "evidence" on the cutting room floor.

Gnat's piss.
txhorns79
I figured Rock would be the one thrown out of the kitchen, though, because of his temper. Blowing up like that isn't like him? What world is he living in?

I thought the same thing. He may have been more experienced than Julia, but there is no way he can run a kitchen with that temper. I can guarantee that for as bossy as he thought Jen was, there are going to be people 100 times worse in the kitchen in Vegas.

And seriously, that was perhaps one of the best endings Hell's Kitchen has done. You can tell that GR truly believes in Julia, and even though she lost, she has a very bright future. Contrast that with Josh, and you can tell she's going places.
mcgjgl
I laughed my ass off this entire episode (except for Julia's elimination). Between Josh and his hoarding of jump started food, again and again, and Rock and Jen bitching at each other like children, it was a total trainwreck.

Nice that Julia won the challenge. I'm not really understanding Josh's salmon for highschoolers, but whatever.

Julia's elimination was really sweet. You could see how happy GR was for her in her win, and then at the end, it was so touching. Awww. I finally got a warm and fuzzy feeling only to lose it by hearing Rock speak about Rock. Again.

By the way, what the hell was up with Jen acting like she and Julia were BFF and then re-naming her "Jules." It is possible she uses it as a nickname, but this is the first time anyone has called her that. And she kept doing it.

I don't really care who wins now, because I don't like any of them. I like Jen the least. Her "nobody likes me" teary speech made my eyes roll right into the back of my head.

Bonnie: "I really, really didn't think I'd get this far." That makes two of us.
SnapMcD
These are the crying-est people I've ever seen. I can't decide if I'd rather punch Bonnie or Rock.
chimere
I don't think Bonnie is yelling at GR in the previews--I think that is typical preview BS. I think she is bitching at Rock. She's probably saying, "Do I have to taste everything you put up here to make sure you aren't f***ing it up?!"

BTW, what Rock bitched at Bonnie for doing (saying her food was ready when his was not) is no different from what he was hurrying to do to Jen, making sure GR knew his stupid scallops were done while Jen was running 45 seconds behind him. His excuse was identical to Bonnie's reason: his chef said get it up there, so he was gonna get his up there--just as Bonnie wanted to do when GR called for hers.

Notice, too, that GR told Julia to come back after CA school and "win this hands down." He knows she is ratings gold, and he wants her to come back on the show after she has learned what she needs to know. They want to get a whole new season of Julia love out of HK fans.

I bet that whether she comes back on the show or not, she will be working in a GR restaurant somewhere, or else he will arrange for her to work with someone he knows with a top restaurant.
spiritone
Damn, that was so disappointing. I'll admit I cried too. That being said, I am over the moon Ramsay is sending her to culinary school. Julia will be unstoppable after she is formally trained. I am so excited for her and wish her all the best in the future. Rock made the most sense tonight when he pointed out Ramsay liked Julia not because of what she knew but what she could LEARN. That assessment was spot on.

I'll admit I felt so bad for Josh tonight even though I loved hearing Ramsay call him a DON-key with so much passion. Ramsay would scare the shit out of me if he approached me like that.

And of course the high school kids liked Julia's... she showed yet again she knows her customer.
isiscloud
Bonnie who’s never worked in a real professional kitchen

What about throwing out the monkfish. Was the reclaimed? Would Grrrr have thrown her out if he knew what she had done? I wish we had seen that.

While Rock is an ass, Bonnie & Jen were bitches for calling him out like that-bitches indeed.

Jen has such a huge head. You would have thought SHE had won the challenge, not Julia. Her head was taking up the window in the limo. She's whack.

I agree that Julia's food isn't that inspired, but for Bonnie to claim that Julia made cheese is pretty hypocritical. Not many typical high schoolers like goat cheese...even fried. The salmon sounded good, but again a little bit extravagant for kids. Jen's sounded boring, too. I hate meatloaf so no contest.

I was home sick today so I watched Grrr visit some restaurants he'd helped on KN and he has full knowledge of the whole restaurant, not just the kitchen. If he had heard Rock or Josh say that he would have been pissed. Also, he poached two sous chefs from one restaurant for his own, so it's his style to help others.
AnarchyNow
The way that Gordon humiliated Josh was terrible. Nobody deserves to be treated so badly. Nobody.
singmetosleep
She wouldn't have to call you out, Rock, if you'd TALK to her. Annoying as she is. There was no team playing for him tonight, then when is it ever? I'm very disappointing Gordon didn't bitch-slap him for his behavior. Rock should not win this competition.

I was Julia's elimination coming from a mile away. Bonnie really didn't have much choice but to put her up after her performance. Which sucks, because like most people here, I think she was the remaining shining light of the show.

Her station getting mixed up, though? I almost smell sabotage. That's just not like her.
wandersfar
Man I was really hoping this was the season the non-culinary school person would win. I was rooting for what's-her-name (the stay at home mom from the first season) and I thought Julia really had a shot this time, though usually her type gets eliminated in F4. Ah well.

Now that she's gone, I'm rooting for anyone who isn't Rock. Jen? Bonnie? Don't really care much one way or the other. Just want that tool gone.
jakenderek
The Donkey is gone. Thank G-d.

But, Julia is as well, and that makes me sad. I thought Grrr's 'gesture' was honest and from the heart, and shows a side of him that Fox doesn't necessarily like to publicize.

I hope Julia kicks ass at culinary school, and comes back to win it all.

As for who's left... no one really left to root for. Bonnie can't run her own restaurant for shit, Jen takes things out of the trash to plate, and Rock continues to talk about himself in the third person.

Ack.

But, I will continue to watch, if only to feed my Grrr obsession.

Damn, I love that man.

*edited because I'm stupid sometimes*
AdrienneP
I KNEW Gordon would hook Julia up, she's got too much potential and he knew it. I thought for a second that there wouldn't be an actual elimination since Josh imploded, but

Two eliminations in one night? Won't that throw off the schedule?

Weren't they short one when Melissa wasn't cut but moved to the boys team? So they had to do 2 to catch up. IIRC.
tominboston
For a guy whose television personality is often that of a shouting, foul-mouthed bastard, GR handled Julia's inevitable elimination as graciously as could be. Like a lot of folks here I was very impressed by her basic good sense and ability to learn, but at the same time it seemed doubtful that she was ready to run a high-end restaurant. Culinary school is what she needs at this point in her career, and after that she'll go far. Good luck to her.

Bonnie as the best of the crew responsible for the trainwreck in the kitchen tonight? What did I miss?

Rock probably saved himself by admitting to GR that his temper got the best of him. He still seems to be the most capable of the Final 3 if he can just keep his cool.
ShantaD
He got rid of the only person whose restaurant I'd actually eat at. I hope Julia does well in the rest of her career. I really don't think she deserved to be the one to go. As for the others, I can't begin to care who wins now.
wandersfar
Her station getting mixed up, though? I almost smell sabotage. That's just not like her.

Yeah I was getting that same feeling, too. It seemed too... pat. She doesn't mess up until this week, and that's when her fennel suspiciously disappears? Yeah, okay.
VNutt
Couldn't we have seen Rock go? Rock *knows* that Rock's got a temper, and Rock should realize Rock can't keep it under control. At all.

I didn't think Julia would win it all - most I really hoped is that she'd get far, and she did, and she'd learn from it, and she did. With a culinary school background she could go farther than any of the people who've been on ANY season of HK. Seriously. And sadly, GVR already has an Original Pancake House... so she's gotta deliver something else to the table.

And Josh... that was sudden, but still several episodes too late. Pre-cook once, shame on you, pre-cook twice, bye-bye Donkey!!

But man oh man... really don't care who wins. But, the excitement about opening a resteraunt in Vegas, a newer food mecca in the US, I have to wonder if any of them really know that GVR is more of a locals casino and not as high end as some of the other places. (And loved the "driving" down the Strip in Vegas - stock footage away sir! - where they passed things that are in the opposite direction going from the airport to GVR. Kinda like how the writers for Oceans 11 decided to rearrange the Strip).

Yeah... don't care much what happens in the next couple episodes. There is just no excitement. I wouldn't want to eat any of their food.
cherry malotte
Well shitburgers. It's not like we didn't know it was gonna happen, but still. Grrr is just outstanding, paying for her culinary school and then telling her to come back. Julia will always be a Grrr Grrrl, and a damn fine one at that. An upstanding round of applause for her. Bravo Julia! You get your education then whip all their asses girlfriend!

Sheesh...Josh looked like he was gonna haul off and smack Grrr. So long Josh, and no thanks for what you couldn't cook. Boy, he just kinda evaporated after getting sent out...never to be heard from again.

Rock, control thyself. Dipshit. I did think it seemed like Jen baited him a couple of times but it's a better person that doesn't rise to it. Shut the fuck up and cook.

Julia did put some chicken in those sandwiches, so they weren't just just grilled cheese. I thought Rock's actually sounded pretty good, but did he advertise that to the kids as meatloaf or as a burger? I must have missed something.

I'm not done with the show, I'll watch til the bitter end. I'm calling Jen and Rock for the finale.
sendtoscott
Weren't they short one when Melissa wasn't cut but moved to the boys team? So they had to do 2 to catch up. IIRC.

That was to make up for Aaron, I believe.
BtvsVamp
Did Scott and Mary Anne forget to tell Ramsey, Bonnie threw out good monkfish? That should of taken away from her "great" service. She really should of been sent home this week instead of Julia and probably last week instead of Brad.

Josh deserved to go home, but I felt really bad for him and wanted to give him a hug.

Rock will probably win, even though I think Jen is a better cook. If not for her trashed spaghetti business I'd think she have the edge. Bonnie will NOT make F3. If she does somehow, she will not win.

How long does Culinary school take anyway? You'd think Julia could comeback, but I'm unclear how long it takes.
isiscloud
Her station getting mixed up, though? I almost smell sabotage. That's just not like her.

ITA. Especially, when it was moved to a place just behind her. I think it was Bonnie.
