A road trip for Sarah, Tommy, and Kevin reveals more startling news about their father. Justin comes clean about his reasons for joining the service after returning from a hospital stay.
Definitely one of my favorite episodes so far. There was just something about it that made it really good. I don't know if it was the whole road trip scenario with Tommy, Sarah & Kevin or the tense flashbacks from 2001 when Justin enlisted but it had a lot of tender moments. Sally Field's acting was superb but her 2001 hair was awful.
Also this episode marks the debut of Rob Lowe as Sen. Robert McCallister which is perhaps Rob's best performance post-The West Wing. I loved how Kitty stuck to her morals even if it meant Justin having to go to Iraq which absolutely no one wants. She tried to use connections but ultimately failed plus if Robert really used his connections it would cheapen the plot. I think we all wanted there to be some resolve with this whole Justin in the military arc but that would make the character of Justin really boring, don't you think? I liked the way it all played out in the end.
