Hope there isn't another Don thread somewhere...I didn't see it.

I love this guy. He really wants to stand with Bill but his conscience trumps Bill's revenge fantasy.

The only issue I have is based on the dietary info others have kindly brought to the board, wouldn't Don's weight be a major character flaw for your basic LDS? The guy is huge and clearly out of shape. His wives seem to keep fit, trim and healthy.

The actor reminds me of those Bad Boy stickers...

I love Don. He tries so hard.

Yes and no. While there are dietary guidelines, they are just that, guidelines. They were written in the 1800's when we didn't have big shiny supermarkets with loads of junk food everywhere we turned. I was LDS for 17 years and I never saw or heard anything like what you would be suggesting. I'm chubby and my dad has a physique similar to Don's. So, from what I've seen, that's not really an issue. One of the guidelines is meat in moderation but eating meat at every meal has never been discouraged outright, its more of a "Use your discretion" thing. The things that are more enforced, for lack of a better word, are the explicit no's, such as alcohol, tobacco, etc.

Wow, I never knew there were dietary restrictions for Mormons, except for the obvious products. I guess the only issue would be if they made garments big enough, but I've seen plenty of overweight Mormons.

I would like to get more of a glimpse into Don's life, because didn't Don recently say he had something like 16 mouths to feed? But that maybe that's including the wives. But that's a fucking big family, and hopefully not living in the same house.

I recently saw the actor in an episode of Six Feet Under and totally forgot he was in it. The whole time I couldn't stop thinking about Don and his wives, and not the comic book nerd.

Yes all we see is creepy Jason. What about Don's other kids?

Anyone else getting pissed that Bill is just ignoring or blowing over Don's concerns re: the video poker machines? I mean, if he's your right-hand man, best friend, and spiritual advisor (of a sort), than why won't you at pretend to listen to his concerns? Don seems to have been there for Bill the whole time, and it chaps my ass to have him treated like this. Hmmm, I guess I'm more of a Don fan than I'd thought.

I am getting angry that Bill is not listening to Don. After Don said no he is out of it, Bill comes back at him well the decision is made and that is final. Bill really thinks he is the smartest man in the world and he has to lead all of these people in his life because he knows what is best for them.

Don is a legitimate businessman who has a family to take care of. If anything happened to Homes Plus, he would lose his job and also his wife would lose her job. Bill just keeps entangling him first with Roman and now with these weirdos.

Don must be exasperated by the whole thing. And then, Bill gets a boat and Don gets a statuette of Abraham Lincoln? WTH?

What killed me was when Bill was walking back to his car from narrowly escaping a butt branding, he called Don and said, "We thought we were stealing Weber gaming from Roman, but the Greens had their eye on it. We are in trouble" or something close to that. It's the WE that I thought took a lot of nerve.

I nannied for a Mormon family, and I don't know about any dietary restrictions, but this particular family ate some strange ass things. I had to cook the family dinner most nights, and they very often had me make them rice pudding (as their dinner) or this stuff called Kram, which is basically heated canned fruit cocktail and corn starch and sugar. Again, don't know if that's a Mormon thing or just that family, but it was a little odd.

Either I'm not paying enough attention to this Webber Gaming story line (because Bill is the least interesting character on this show, so I usually tune out most of his scenes unless they involve a wife or Lois or something) but is Don for or against this deal? First I thought he'd definitively opposed it, and then when the whole Hollis Green takeover came out, he seemed like he was involved again. What gives?

I'm noticing some paralells between the Sarah/Heather relationship and the Bill/Don relationship---I just wish Don would be as vocal about the fact that Bill is totally using him as Heather was with Sarah.

Based on the last episode, I don't believe Don was on board with the gaming deal.

I'm confused as to what Don's position is in the company exactly. Is he like a VP that holds shares? I can't figure it out.

Something else.....there has not been anymore said or seen about Don's wives and the playing footsies stuff. There's just not been said much about Don's family period, as in where are the other children? Does Don own three houses in the suburbs like Bill?

So many unanswered questions! :)

Just Bill demonstrating not only a total lack of scruples, but his usual failure to assume personal responsibility for his actions. Of course, Don is way too nice to mention that (at least for the time being!).

Ep 9 last season "A BBQ for Betty" stated that the two 'other' wives had agreed to share a bedroom until they were able to add on one for the Prospective Mrs. Number 4.

I think Don definitely has misgivings, but at least up until this time, he just trusts Bill knows better than he does. Although I bet that Peg is bending Don's ear and reminding him about all the expense that Bill's 'decisions' have caused home plus - let's see, Alby breaking in and stealing $$ and documents, losing the property (along with any money they might have already sunk in) for the third store, the vandalism of the billboard (still believe that Alby and/or Roman was responsible for THAT little incident)...and that's jut off the top of my head.

I noticed that too and thought the same thing. I feel very sorry for poor Don who I think is a genuinely nice guy. He knows Bill is in over his head and that he's making bad decisions out of emotional needs, but he also knows that if Bill goes down, he goes down with him because their financial stability is so tied up in those stores. So Don stands by Bill hoping that it works out and ready to lend whatever assistance is needed.

RE Don and Bill's relationship: I think that Bill sees himself not only has the priesthood holder and head of his family, but also as a leader of men. As we've been told, by Lois for instance, Bill is descended from prophets, and I think he sees himself as a potential future prophet.

In the first season, Don seemed to accept Bill as a leader and to defer to his authority, but now we see Don disagreeing with Bill's decisions (first his decision to put his face on billboards and now his decision to purchase Weber gaming).

I would be interested in learning about Don's background. As far as I remember, we've never been told that Don is from Juniper Creak people. Was he perhaps raised in another fundamentalist Mormon enclave or...?
Green Ripper
You can add me to the list of people who like Don and wish Bill would actually, you know, listen to him occasionally. I've been feeling more and more disappointed in Bill's string of poor decisions. Don is trying to tell him the things most viewers would be trying to tell him--and Bill just won't listen. Don's loyalty is likely to cost him dearly, I'm afraid.

I suspect that their working relationship has always consisted of Don reining in Bill's wilder ideas and keeping him focused on what works--but now Bill is so obsessed with beating Roman at his own game that everything else has taken a back seat. Don's singing like a Greek chorus but Bill isn't listening.

Second that, Green. Don is probably the most admirable character on this show, polygamist or not--- you can see why he is someone Barb trusts enough to go to when she has her fight with Bill, and also why Bill never really tries to assert his dominance over him.

Oh, and the dude who plays him looks totally Utah.
Kteach
Does anyone know Don and Bill's backstory? How did they become friends and business partners? Was it before Bill returned to polygamy or after and did they become partners because they knew they could be open about their personal lives with each other? Someone needs to write a prequel and not a five minute one either!
Scrapper
I know with all the characters and intrigue they could write a whole season of prequel and it wouldn't be enough.
