Does anyone know how I can get the sound of the Tardis either materializing or dematerializing on my cell phone without having to join a ringtone club that charges a monthly fee?

The Beeb's website has TONS here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/sounds/As long as you can download MP3s on your phone and use them as ringtones, all those should be fine!

Thanks for the site! Now I just have to figure out how to get it on my phone. Anyone know how to download to a PM-8200 by Sanyo on the Sprint plan? The phone has no internet access but can send and receive e-mail.

I would send the file as an attachment to yourself in an e-mail, just be sure to send the file to an account that the phone can access. It was a little easier with my blackberry, but I do that all the time for sounds.

I mailed it to my phone but I can't seem to find a way to make the file play:(

What I've done on mine is select an option to open a file attachment and/or save it to the phone. On mine, this opens a media player that I can use to save it with, but I don't have the same phone. You may have to either look in your phone's manual or call your service provider about how to get it to work.

I had a phone before that played MP3s and had MP3 ringtones but, bizarrely, wouldn't 'see' MP3s sent to it as ringtones. I discovered, though, that if I got an MP3/AMR converter program (google'll bring up loads of freeware) and sent it to the phone as an AMR then the phone would see it under "Voice Notes" and *those* you could set as ringtones.

Not exactly ringtones as such, but (courtesy of TV Cream) you can Dalek up your PC here:

Mobile17 sends whatever sound you want. It's free. Just tell them what file you want and at what time and they'll send it to your phone as a text message or an email.
