From Zap2It:

Johnny tells Greta and Liza about Cliff's affair; Cliff tries to win back Nikki while fending off Maria's advances; Tess and Skip continue their courting dance.

OH.MY.GOD.

I have no idea whodunit now. First Cliff and Greta. And now Skip, Maria, and Liza are suspects too?

Also, I can't believe there's all this evidence just floating around out there. It's so surreal.

I HEART Jessie Jo. Seriously, I wanted to see him beat down Cliff with that four-inch rhinestone stilletto.

Next week is the last episode??? Noooo! I'm really liking this show.
Amelie06
I love Cliff, and this episode really made me feel sorry for him. I don't think the writers meant to trigger this, but I always recoil when there is a storyline involving adults and minors. I don't care how worldly Cliff seems. He still only 16 or 17 years old and a middle aged woman has no business using him for sex. This episode raised her behavior to stalking and emotional abuse. This made me very sympathetic to Cliff, who spent the whole episode trying to extricate himself from the shitshow she helped him create.
Bacio83
These eps keep getting better and better. I just hope the CW realizes a guilty pleasure for a summer series is a good thing.

And Maria Nolan is very needy. Gah poor Cliff getting hit up from every side.
marysue22
So Maria Nolan is clearly a psycho bitch, a little unhinged is the nicest thing to say about her..

As of now, with the information we've been going, I'm going to say that it's either Liza or Eddie's mom. I think Cliff and Greta really did get there the night he died, but they weren't the ones to shoot him.

Just because I love Cliff, I kind of hope there's going to be a satisfying conclusion to Cliff and Nikki, which is more likely to happen if he keeps his hands off psycho mom.
TobinAlbers
Cliff about to get his ass kicked by Jessie Jo and his girls? Priceless!

Seriously? The drama is everywhere BUT with Johnny and Greta. Nikki and Cliff are the emotional couple draw for me with that last scene between them everything I could've wanted- longing, declaration, some angsty depth, rejection. It's setting them up (or would've) to be a couple that you want to get together after each individual person gets themselves together. But alas...next week was promoted as the SERIES finale. No getting this show back, LOL.

The Skip and Maria mystery? Interesting.
Liza and Greta bonding? Eh.
Johnny and Greta's first date? Did not care.
Bob and Johnny's mom? Some interesting backstory with how they got together and just how things were with John.
Johnny and Nikki hanging out being friends? Great to see. I like their dynamic.

Honestly after the who killed Eddie mystery was over it would've been interesting to see them in school and what sort of noir-ish intrigues could've gone on there. Also they obviously were setting up the possibility of expanding the whole universe with Jessie Jo's kids and grandkids coming in as well as Nikki's family making their way to town. Those developments I wouldn't have minded seeing.

I hope Michael Cassidy gets a new show soon. Give the boy preppy psycho and he makes it fun!
mamie614
I saw the affair angle with Liza/Eddie coming (hunch or spoilers I forget how), but I have to say, that was a great reveal to it. They even had me fooled thinking Eddie accidentally left the camera on while doing it with Greta and that Liza saw it and was so jealous-crazed she killed Eddie...but when Liza's face comes into view....Awesome.

Skip has given off the creepy daugther molester vibes a little too often IMO. I keep expecting him to make a pass at Greta for some reason.

I'm gonna miss this stupid show. And the incredibly hot Michael Cassidy.
Zascha
Well I was totally off the mark thinking Liza had made up the whole friendship with Eddie, and then some! I'm guessing she's not the killer, otherwise why would she dredge all this crap up on purpose? Of course, she has enlisted Johnny to solve a murder so she's not the brightest Brady in the bunch.

I also don't think Skip did it. I think Skip figured Greta did it and went there to fix things, making it look like a suicide and that's what we saw on video. Heck, maybe Cliff thought she did it too so he kept the dress as collateral to hold over her because he's thoughtful like that.

The mother is looking good as the killer, she's obviously psycho for Cliff, would she kill her own son if he confronted her and told her to end the affair? Is she too obvious a suspect though? Can't wait to see what Tess does now that she's caught her friend and her son together.

Also, Johnny's mom needs to get her act together. She's coming off a bad marriage to an alcoholic who shot himself in front of her son, who then became an addict. She's got a tad bit of baggage and Bob is awesome to her. Get with it lady!

Hee, this show got a lot better with these two episodes tonight. Some clunky dialogue still, but much better.

Love the Nikki/Cliff relationship but he was getting scary there at the end with her on the sidewalk, I'm scared for Jessie Jo and Spatz.

Greta and Johnny still bore. I swear I kept forgetting from scene to scene if they were mad at each other or not and why. Seemed like they just went back and forth ad nauseum.
Bacio83
Was it me or was Cliff sad that Even Liza didn't trust him.... man can Michael act he had me all over the place tonight. I felt bad for him but wanted Jesse-Jo to kick his butt.

And he's a little stalkerish but I guess any teenage boy with a woman throwing themselves at them is going to tap that. *sigh* and I loved how Liza's not the "goodgirl" that she seems to be.

I'm glad she was getting some with Eddie good for her to get out of her garabatory.

Okay, so everybody could have dunnit. They each had motive and opportunity, and they each participated in some form of cover-up. When we find out who it really is, it'll just be a random choice from all the equally suitable options, which means it isn't really much of a mystery at all. (Unless they go for a real soap-opera twist, like having the culprit be Greta's evil twin.)

Why is Cliff supposed to be such a master manipulator? When virtually everything that comes out of your mouth is an obvious lie, guess what -- nobody believes you anymore! (Except sometimes Johnny, who's kind of an idiot.)

Speaking of Johnny being an idiot, is it really a good idea to make up with a girl by shoving a dress soaked in her boyfriend's blood at her? Wouldn't that be, I don't know, upsetting to her? Even if she is guilty?

Oh, and by the way, after seeing Greta in her new dress tonight, I would keep dating her even if she was a psycho-killer. (Yeah, I know, I wouldn't have been rich and good-looking enough for her; but then again, neither is Johnny.)

What do these people do all day? Except for constantly working Liza, nobody seems to have any outlets for their time and energy except lie around the pool and concoct conspiracy theories about each other. Don't even rich kids have jobs, internships, SAT-prep courses, summer camp, something? Talk about a mystery....
Nolebucgrl
I am extremely scared for Jessie Jo and Spats. While I don't think Cliff will be the Eddie killer, he seems to give off the potential of killing someone or something and his anger at JJ might manifest itself in some bad way.

I think right now it's Psycho Mom or Liza, who the hell keeps like 1000 video messages? She was too obsessed with Eddie. And, as I said in the other thread, any Mom who wants to screw in her dead son's room where he supposedly killed himself is obviously a twisted freakola who didn't care that much for her dead son. She was soooo sickening when she was whining to Skip about being tired of hiding out and being away from the world. Nice mothering, freak, you make soap opera mom's look good.

I agree. I don't care about Johnny and Greta at all, but Cliff and Nikki are an intriguing couple. I felt so bad for both of them during their last scene.

I can't believe how much I'm into finding out what the hell actually happened with Eddie. Almost all the parents (with the exception to the fabulous Jessie Jo) are self-centered and clueless, yet I'm impressed that Williamson went in that direction with those characters. In most teen shows, the parents are giving little character development.

I'm definitely excited about next week's series finale.

I'm still in love with Michael Cassidy. He definitely needs to get cast on another show, pronto.

First off, kudos to Joe R (and Jacob & Lauren) for really cranking out the endlessly entertaining and spot-on recaps with such speed. He has played as much a part in our collective "summer fling" as Johnny, Cliff, Greta and the gang.

I hope Michael Cassidy gets a new show soon. Give the boy preppy psycho and he makes it fun!

Hallelujah! Note to any casting agents reading this thread: Michael Cassidy has a built-in audience for any future project. And with that voice, I would encourage him to look into doing voiceovers (although then we wouldn't be able to see his pretty face...but that voice...) When the show started, I thought Johnny was going to be the thing...but each increasingly-improving episode has shown that Cliff is the one for the long haul.

Random thoughts:
  • Is there some sort of pattern here, regarding parties at Casa Johnny: kids have party, Johnny punches out smarmy guest; adults have party, Johnny's step-dad punches out smarmy guest...what's next, Mom vs. the Tupperware lady? (I know, I know...I'm sure they don't "do" Tupperware in PS...)
  • Since many of the adults are so keen on going for the young-and-lovelies, I don't think Sharon Lawrence should be too surprised that her son is on the receiving end of some age-discrepenacy relationship. Like mother, like son?
  • Jessie Jo rules his screentime.
  • Whatever happened to Greta the Enigma, the girl who danced around in sprinklers at night? Is it just me, or is she now just a cookie-cutter refugee from Dawson's Creek?
  • I think we're supposed to see Eddie as a "poor victim," but he was cheating on Greta with Liza. Not that he deserved to die or anything (and not that I care), but...
  • Would a bartender on duty really get so physical with the Golf Pro?
  • Liza, why not password-protect your more, um, sensitive files? I'm sure your huge brain could figure out how.
  • I like the ridiculous plot twists re: the mystery, but we have yet to receive a convincing motive for murder or suicide, Greta's narcissistic posturing included.
Of course, she has enlisted Johnny to solve a murder so she's not the brightest Brady in the bunch.

Liza has motivation and smarts to pursue the mystery, so I'm kind of at a loss why she seemed to let it slide until a dreamy boy moved in across the way. And lately Johnny seems to be going through the motions of playing Encyclopedia Brown. Cliff's "Scooby Doo" line was priceless.

I hate to admit it, but I'm gonna miss this show (especially since it's the only aired program I've watched since the regular season ended--thank god for DVDs!).
Edited to give credit where credit is due.

Alright so due to this episode, I have several wacky theories in my head for 'WTH happened to Eddie?':

Maria killed Eddie for one of the following reasons-
- to protect her relationship with Cliff
- in self-defense because EDDIE was once her 'special man' and he was upset at being usurped by Cliff. He attacks her and so she shoots him in fear for her life (or they struggle over the gun and it goes off, killing him).
-because when she 'mistakenly' puts the moves on Eddie thinking he's Cliff, he is so horrified and sickened he rejects her which makes her angry by his rejection so she kills him.

OR

It's ALL a con! They're all in on it and did it and they're trying to drive Johnny crazy to make him think they did it. Or just for the hell of it.

For some reason, Liza, Greta, and Cliff all seem to be playing Johnny like a fiddle. They're all too deliberate in trying to subtly fluip Johnny off to someone else. "Cliff and I arrived at Eddie's house together, Johnny. I don't know WHY he kept my bloody dress!" "No, Johnny, Greta was there before me and I found her holding Eddie." "No, Johnny, Cliff is the one acting weird, not me. Did I forget to tell you I was with Eddie the night he died? Oops!"

Johnny is sent spinning back and forth, not knowing WHO is telling the truth and everyone's butt is covered because they're all manipulating the 'evidence'. Cliff threatening Liza and Greta could all be about them not sticking to the plan and he's pissed because they're all trying to put it on him or they're not playing by the rules.

I could be on the Liza did it alone bandwagon. I could see Liza in Eddie's room overhearing Eddie and Maria have a fight and things get ugly, Liza coming into the fray and her trying to kill Maria for hurting Eddie or something and she kills by Eddie instead by mistake and just blocks it all out. Skip covers at Maria's request because she tells Skip that Greta did it to cover for Liza because she's worried Liza would spill the beans about Maria putting the moves on Eddie if she were caught. Cliff saves the dress because... he needs collateral just in case?

WTH am I even trying to theorize with this show? LOL. All I know is that I'm going to miss it. Yes, I admit it!

If this were a miniseries or a deliberate short-run show, I'd have been quite satisfied with this outcome, to be honest. But since it's a series, I have trouble believing that anyone in the opening credits is even remotely "responsible" for Eddie's death. To me, his mother seems the most marginal, expendable character shoehorned in to take a fall.

WTH am I even trying to theorize with this show?

I know what you mean! I've been trying to come up with story arcs for future seasons--high school, road trips, secret societies, new characters? But a week from now it will all be over. Wonder what kind of extras they're going to slap on the inevitable Complete Series DVD set?

Boy, oh boy. I love this show, I will miss it and I will hate The CW all Summer for ending it!

They fooled me as well. Loved it.

Cliff & Nikki rule. I really wanted Cliff to beg Nikki, but he's too messed up to be unselfish. I'm still hoping that the show goes out with a bang and with Cliff and Nikki together.

Man, why did this show have to be good? WHY!?

They fooled me as well. Loved it.
Didn't fool me. Closed captioning ruined it. Color me shocked that not only did Liza acutally know Eddie, she was having sex with him.
Snarf
It was the old lady next door with the yappy dog! Seriously, I'm doubtful that it will turn out to be any of the major charecters or if it was, it will circumstancial (unless they did reshoots once they realized that the inital eight episodes were going to be "it")
breathesgelatin
Spats is so dead. The whole not doing his business for a week thing? DOG POISONING!

This was the best episode yet by far. Cliff/Nikki's desperately romantic scene outside Jessie Jo's? AMAZING. Drag show? AMAZING. Liza sleeping with Eddie? AMAZING.

I can't believe how much I care about/love this show. I also can't believe how much some people hate it. Tell me I'm not crazy...!

Ahhhh, been there. I now try to use the CC the second time around because it ruins too much.

I'm actually surprised that Liza had sex with anybody. She looks so young compared to Nikki & Greta.

Also, when Tess said that Johnny was the cutest boy there (drag show) I was like, "Lady, that honor goes to thy own son."

Seriously, I'm doubtful that it will turn out to be any of the major charecters or if it was, it will circumstancial (unless they did reshoots once they realized that the inital eight episodes were going to be "it")

I don't want it to be circumstantial, but it probably will. If it had been planned out there probably wouldn't have been 23 versions of the events, bloody angel dresses under floorboards in need of serious cover up, etc. Of course, unless something went terribly wrong. Eddie looked like a smart, sharp cookie not easily fooled or amused. Plus, his mom = total bitch! Hm.. I can't wait for next week. Maybe he's not even dead. Could he have staged it with Liza?

I can't believe how much I care about/love this show. I also can't believe how much some people hate it. Tell me I'm not crazy...!

Considering how upset I am at myself because I couldn't record "Mulligan" and "What Liza Beneath" we're crazy together. I loves it.

Yeah! Haha. It feels like everyones just riding poor Johnny. But Liza/Cliff confrontantions would need explanation. However, that would be a bitch of a twist. Phew. I'm almost wishing for it. Heh.
kellygirl
I'll probably change my mind by tomorrow but right now the ways I see it I think Maria is the killer.

My logic is the dvd she sent Skip didn't show the actual crime, it just showed him tampering with the scene afterwards which does make him a criminal but only circumstantially implicating him for the murder. If she had footage of him shooting the gun or Eddie saying something to the person that shot him that was more definitive, she would have used that unless it implicated herself (or possibly Cliff - wouldn't want her boytoy going to jail). But I think she told Skip it was Greta so that's who he thinks he's protecting. I think Cliff also believes it was Greta.

As for Greta, I think she legitimately believes that it was a suicide. But with Liza I'm not sure what to think. Either she truly thinks Cliff and/or Greta did it or she knows they didn't but wants to implicate them to get them away from her Eddie-replacement Johnny.

I'm really sad that next week is the end.

I guess I'm taking a ride on the crazy train too. Not only do I love this show but I'm campaigning to save it!

It's a good thing I DVR'd this episode so I can watch it again - and actually pay attention to the storyline. On first viewing I was too busy watching for the scene that was filmed the night I was at the studio (Halloween to be precise) It was when Karen Hardy had come back from Jesse's show and is laying on the couch. When Gail was in the hair & make-up trailer getting her hair done for that scene, they weren't too worried about the back because she was going to be lying down. My friend and I were actually in her trailer with her son (eating dinner) when she came in to change into the black dress.

Because she killed Eddie and put together this elaborately detailed set of clues framing Greta and Cliff, but then Skippy came along and got it swept under the rug. But if she was the one to go to the authorities and get the case reopened, she'd draw too much attention to herself so she's using Johnny for that.
