Here! TV has begun showing the first two half-hour episodes of their Dante's Cove follow-up, and the cheese factor is pretty darn high in this too! The thread title is an actual line of dialogue from the previews at the end of episode two - how the actress said it without busting up is beyond me. I've been looking forward to seeing this - they had me when they hired ex-gay-porn-daddy Colton Ford to play the sheriff of the town, but the show seems as though it'll be as fun and mockable as Dante's Cove. Actually, the male lead (David Moretti) and the main bad guy (Peter Stickles) are turning in decent performances so far, and the entire cast is pretty hot, including the token straight girl (although I could do without her unemployed roid-rage boyfriend). Another gay porn star, Dylan Vox, is also attempting to cross over into more mainstream projects here, playing the second-in-command to the main bad guy. I'll be generous and give him a few more episodes to develop a stronger character - his performance so far is on a par with most of the Dante's Cove "actors," as are most of the other supporting actors here. Then again, I'm watching this for the fun and cheese, not for Emmy-winning moments. My biggest complaint after two episodes is that they are holding back on the eye candy - aside from one dead body, there's been no frontal nudity so far. To be fair though, there are plenty of butt shots and simulated sex scenes, as well as one VERY nicely-filmed David Moretti shower scene. All in all, I'm pleased with the prospects.

I have to say, as someone who's never heard of The Lair or Dante's Cove, it's certainly a thread title that demands to be clicked on.

Is this from the same creators as Dante's Cove? Because the dialogue is about as god-awful. I have to agree though that the acting is better at least in regards to the two leads (David Moretti and Peter Stickles). Whereas in Dante's Cove I was always saying "Man these actors suck" (For the most part. I'm blaming the writing as well for William Gregory Lee and Thea Gill because I've seen them do better work) in The Lair I'm saying "Yeah those two aren't bad actors but who wrote that dialogue?!"
But it is good for that cheesy fun I like to watch now and then.

Wait, has Dante's Cove finished and been replaced by this?
Is it an actual spin-off, or just in the same vein of vaguely supernatural soft-core porn?
giovannif7
Jun 12, 2007 @ 8:44 pm
From what I've read, Dante's Cove will be back later this summer with Season 3. I think The Lair, which was being called Dante's Lair when it was first announced, is a spinoff, but that has only been hinted at onscreen so far. It doesn't seem to take place in the same town, but Dylan Vox did guest on Dante's Cove last season, although it's not clear if he's playing the same character on The Lair. The two shows also share a fictional party drug called Saint, which is mentioned in the second episode by the sheriff. So it seems the two shows exist in the same universe, whether it's a direct spinoff or not, and it is definitely treading the same soft-core porn/supernatural soap opera turf.
ETA: Apparently Dante's Cove won't have new episodes airing until October, so this will have to satisfy our hunger for cheese-tastic supernatural gay porn soaps until then.

I watched the first two episodes last night. This is so cheesily bad that I may never need to watch any other television ever again -- nothing else will ever live up to this.
Also, that is the most boring looking sex club ever.

Comcast will only give me here! via on-demand. Does anyone know the schedule of when new episodes of this crapfest are made available? Or at least, when new episodes are shows for folks who can get here! as a regular premium channel?
SanLynn
Jun 14, 2007 @ 5:05 pm
I can't get here! as a regular premium channel either, only onDemand. OnDemand content is added every Friday, however they didn't add episode 3 last week when they could have. I assumed that was because episodes 1 and 2 came on-line together.
For folks who can get here! as a regular premium channel, Entertainment Weekly did a mini-review a couple weeks ago when the show started and they have it airing Friday's from 8:00 to 8:30 pm in their magazine.
However, I don't know if various cable companies might administer their onDemand content differently. I, myself, have Charter and they add content on Fridays.

I've got Time Warner Cable, and they currently offer here! via On-Demand as well. I just found out, though, that our TWC will be offering a montly subscription for here! starting in July. It'll be nice to pay one monthly fee instead of the per-showing charge for On-Demand. I haven't seen TWC's schedule yet, so I don't know if the monthly-subscription version has a dedicated channel or actual set showtimes for the programming. If this show follows the same On-Demand schedule as Dante's Cove, I think the next installment of The Lair (eps 3 & 4) should be available in a week or two. I'm assuming, since Dante's Cove episodes are longer, they will be releasing episodes of The Lair two at a time for On-Demand - $3.95 is a bit much to pay for one half-hour episode.

Ouch! It's better to pay for the channel than an episode apiece. I really like Peter Stickles, but I may have to wait this one out.

I also have TWC and used to have to pay for each individual progam. It's still only On Demand, but now I pay $7.95 a month and can watch all the programs at anytime how many times I want. But the ones that are available are up to them and they change every Friday. I'm guessing they will update the show every two weeks, so they can show 2 eps at a time.
So is Here! hiring all the porn actors because they don't hae a problem with nudity and some act as well as their other actors? Is Dylan Vox, Brad Benton's real name?

Comcast in D.C. just moved here! from all pay-per-view to subscription as well. I haven't yet called to sign up. (The downside of the switch is that now the on-demand episodes of here! shows are only available to subscribers -- you can't choose to pay for them a al carte.)

Okay I know that story and logic isn't the point of this show. ;-) But the whole thing of Damian touching up the portrait after every evil thing they do, is taken from The Portrait of Dorian Gray , right? And apparently all of this is happening in flasback while Thom is waiting for "them" to come get him. He looks like he's in a jail cell. Hopefully he and the Sheriff hook up at some point.
edited to fix the title. Apologies to Oscar Wilde.

Yeah from what I can tell that jail cell is actually in the basement of the club. He mentioned in the opening monologue that in 12 hours they were coming to get him or something.
But the Dorian Grey reference and flashback thing sounds right on.

Dylan Vox? He should've used that for his porn name and Brad Benton for his legit acting name.

Yeah I saw those two eps. Why am I not surprised lead bad vampire guy, Damian, has a thing for the Thom, the hero reporter. An interesting twist I suppose to base it on the past but it still seems too Dante's Cove for me.
It's Ambrosius/Kevin all over again. Hopefully they can make it interesting.
I did find it intriguing that in his opening monologue Thom doesn't ever mention Damian by name but does mention Colin. I wonder if Damian is already dead or just doesn't know what Colin is planning for his amore, lol.

I thought Dylan Vox was the name he uses in porn, but after some checking, apparently Brad Benton is his porn name - how bland! Colton Ford, who plays the sheriff, is using his porn name, even though he left the business a couple of years ago, so that tells you what audience they're trying to draw in here.
I'm with you on the "seen it" reaction to Damian's fixation on the reporter. These two seem to be somewhat better actors than Ambrosius and Kevin, though, so hopefully they'll bring some interesting angles into the storyline.

My guess is that Thom doesn't know who Damian is yet - IIRC, he's only met him once, and that was at the hospital when Damian introduced himself as a hospital staff member. I've got a feeling that reveal will be in the final episode of the season.
Oh, and I'm just hoping that the Chippendales-wannabe abusive straight guy winds up getting gangbanged by the entire membership of the sex club. Hate him.

I just finished watching the new episodes as well, and color me disappointed. This appears to be the end of season 1, since cliffhangers abound and there were no previews. That's way too short to have any real story arc in a series - and the show definitely suffers for it. Of course, there are lots of other problems here - the clunky dialogue, the iffy acting by most of the cast, the lengthy pans of entwined obscure body parts, and the reduced screen time for the two stronger actors in the cast in these last two episodes.
If this show gets a second season, I hope the writers and producers consider carefully what worked in these episodes and what didn't. You've got two decent performers in David Moretti (Thom) and Peter Stickles (Damien) - make better use of them! They were both rather underused as the series wound down. Don't cast porn performers as important bad-guy characters if they're going to come across more like bitchy queens than evil vampires (I'm lookin at you, Dylan Vox). Also, if you're going to cast former porn stars as heroes, even if they don't want to get naked, at least have them take off their shirts (I'm looking at you, Colton Ford - fully clothed, damn it). And speaking of getting naked, I, for one, don't find anything sexy about closeups of various unidentifiable body parts in a pile of four or five naked men. It's too much work to try to identify what I'm seeing. You did good earlier in the series, with David Moretti's shower scene and the dream bedroom scene between Thom and his boyfriend. More of that and less of the dogpile orgies would be greatly appreciated.
I have to say I was pretty sure that the twist at the end was coming, due to the disappearing wound being pointed out repeatedly earlier in the episode. I was kinda bugged, though, at the inconsistency in the following of vampire lore. The first vampire that gets staked stays flesh, and gets dumped for the sheriff to find, but the second one gets dusted the way the "Buffy" vampires did - what gives? Pick an outcome and stick with it. I really disliked the token redshirt deputy showing up only to become vampire food - it's hard to give a crap about a character you met five minutes ago. And what was the point of walling up a vampire? All that does is ensure yourself a pissed off, hungry enemy when he ultimately gets released.
OK, that's more than enough thought given to this anemic little offering - probably more thought than the actual production team gave it. If it comes back, I'll give it another shot, but if it doesn't, no big loss. Hopefully Dante's Cove will return in a few months with some great episodes to make up for this weak series.

Well to be fair the first one got staked but the second got his nifty magical necklace done away with prior to death so maybe that had something to do with it.....
Yeah I don't buy it either.
I can't see this series getting a second season for exactly the reasons you mentioned. When you handcuff your two strongest actors (one literally) in the climactic episodes and leave the storytelling up to the porn stars (excuse me "ex" porn stars) you really kind of shoot yourself in the foot. That ending scene with Dylan Vox and Colton Ford (who thinks up these names? LOL) was painful, extremely painful.

Well, good news, I guess...
In addition to the DVD release of Season One today, word comes that
there will be a Season 2. (Scroll down a bit.) Another story I read noted that there will be 12 episodes in the next season, which should air sometime in Spring 2008 (tentatively). I just hope they put a bit more effort into the scripts (and spend a bit less money on police uniforms) in the new season - they've got an interesting premise to work with, but I hope they do some refocusing, as I noted before.

Wow. A whole year between episodes, and this is what they give us?
First off, the new theme song sucks... or bites... pick your favorite bad vampire pun.
If there was any doubt that The Lair is put together by the same folks as Dante's Cove, the new episodes should remove that doubt. They're just as ADD here - closing down the sex club, tossing out several main characters from the first season (including Frankie the snitch and Thom's boyfriend Jonathan), barely following up on storylines, and adding their new shiny toys in the hopes of distracting the audience. I definitely needed distraction from the fact that Peter Stickles was nowhere to be seen in this episode, and David Moretti got about two minutes of screen time.
Speaking of new shiny toys - gay vampire witches weren't enough? They have to throw in gay werewolves too? Sigh...
Dylan Vox may have his charms (although they elude me), but acting is clearly not one of his strengths. And yet, he probably has half the lines and most of the exposition in the new episode. Either someone high up really admires him, or Vox has some sordid pictures he's holding over someone's head. Either way, it's the audience that's paying.
The credits and previews were the truly interesting parts - apparently porn star Johnny Hazzard is going to be showing up this season, and it looks like we'll finally get at least one shirtless Colton Ford (Sheriff Trout) scene. It's about time!

Oh but what a two minutes they were. And is it me or has he bulked up? The definition on his upper body looks different and good.
On the whole I definitely agree with you though. The werewolf story was dumb to begin with and they absolutely should not have spent so much of the episode on it. The Vampire Witches are enough without bringing a lone wolf into it.
However, I did appreciate it because it at least got us away from Dylan Vox at various points. He has no acting talent whatsoever. I'm amazed that they didn't learn their lesson from the finale and instead gave us him for over 1/2 the episode. He is just excrutiatingly awful to watch. Yikes.
The previews were the best part. I just hope Thom and Damian in that scene doesn't turn out to be some sort of dream sequence. Peter Stickles needs to be back in action and fast!

Now that's more like it. This new episode should have been the first episode of Season 2. Starting off with the Thom and Damian scene was a much-needed tie-in to the previous season, as well as a nice set-up for their partnership this season. I also appreciated that the writers addressed the Jonathan and Frankie situations, as well as the exposition scenes that clarified what happened with Sheriff Trout, and with Thom's friend Laura. All of this should have been done before jumping in to the additions for the new season.
The new characters who were introduced got much more appropriate levels of airtime this time out. I think the new werewolf storyline would have benefitted from having this episode shown first, creating a little mystery about what was going on with the dead body by the truck and the naked guy waking up in the outdoors. It wouldn't have taken much to clue us in as to what led up to those scenes in flashbacks, rather than spelling it out in Episode 1. I'm not sold on the whole botanist (was it just me, or is his voice dubbed?) and his tattooed assistant (Johnny Hazzard/Frankie Valenti seems to be a slight step up, acting-wise, from Dylan Vox) storyline yet, but I'm willing to give it a chance.
Best parts of the episode for me? The Thom/Damian sex scene (David Moretti definitely seems to have bulked up, SanLynn), the (nearly) complete absence of Dylan Vox, and Matt (Ted Monte), the new werewolf bounty hunter. And since it looks like newly-blind Sheriff Trout is going to be having a run-in with werewolf boy, I'm curious to see whether the werewolf or Colton Ford has a hairier chest.

Episode 2 was much much better but I just don't understand why they have to throw everything and the kitchen sink into season two. The story would be much much better if they had just chosen either the werewolf OR the psychotic plant to complement the Lair story.
Speaking of the Lair, not that I wasn't happy with the Thom/Damian interactions of episodes 2 and 3, but for the love of pete get Damian out of the wall already! This ghostDamian is frustrating. I want the real one back.
And not just because I want to see Colin die a horribly painful death and put us all out of our misery. Although I will admit a certain fascination to find out where they're going with the Colin/Jonathan story. Maybe he can stay a little bit longer.
Is it me or is the Colin/Jonathan thing and Colin blaming Damian for the trouble the Lair is in 90 degrees from season 1? I know I know, there I go hoping for storyline consistency again.
Episode 3 was fairly weak for me. Not enough Thom, not enough Damian and too much plant/werewolf crap. Ah well, they can't all be well balanced.
Here's hoping there's less werewolf story next week. Of course, now that they've inserted him into Sheriff Trout's story I don't have high hopes.
Speaking of which, in answer to your question giovannif7, based on the preview, Colton Ford has the hairier chest, hands down.
ETA: Oh what to say about episode 4? What to say? Well at least Damian's out of the damn wall. Dried up and being carried about like a sack of potatoes by Thom but out of the wall none the less.
Here's hoping he's a hell of a lot more animated by the end of episode 5. I like ghostDamian but it's just not the same.
I'm even less impressed with how season 2 is shaping up than I was with how season 1 ended. I didn't think that was possible.

I totally agree,
SanLynn - Season 1 set an extremely low bar, but Season 2 is still falling far short.
I can't figure out why they're giving us three completely separate plot threads this time around. We have dubbed-voiced botanist and his tattooed porn star assistant obsessing about a flower growing out of a rock. Then there's the touching story of the blind sheriff and his new wolfboy pet, along with the bounty hunter chasing him. Finally, we have the leftovers from the first season - Thom and GhostDamian playing "What's Behind The Bricks," and Colin wandering around being bitchy to everyone he meets.
That's too many disjointed storylines in a half-hour show, with little plot or character development - and if this is a 6 episode season like the first one, that means we're already 2/3 of the way through. I have no clue how they'll tie all of these stories together in the remaining two half-hour episodes, or if they'll even try to do so.
This show is just a mess, and the most disappointing part is that there hasn't been nearly enough nudity to make up for the lameness. They need to either hire someone to whip this mess into shape, or just cancel it and move on to something fresh. At this point, I'd vote for the latter.
ETA: According to
this interview with David Moretti, the show has already been picked up for a third season. It must be really cheap to produce.
SanLynn

Well after seeing the last two episodes I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry that this show has gone beyond six episodes. Based on the previews for 208 though, I think they might be headed towards a conclusion with Thom heading off to the Lair for "de big confrontation" with Colin.
I'm to the point of fast forwarding anything that doesn't include Thom and/or Damian so I won't even bother commenting on the little flower of horrors or The werewolf and Mr. Sheriff.
What a shame Jonathon got dusted. There goes any pretence of finding out why Colin was so obsessed with him for about 5 minutes back in episode 203.
The resurrection of Damian has been nothing short of...... I don't even know what to call it anymore. Thom is alternately sharing blood with and disgusted by Damian, who continues to live in his damn house? The hell? I know story isn't a big priority but we don't even git a smidge of story continuity? Not even a little?
I'm beyond amazed that they green lit season three. I would say they couldn't do worse than they've done this season but I fear that they can and will. It's not gonna be pretty I bet, that's for sure.

Time Warner finally made Episode 9 available yesterday, which turns out to be the Season 2 finale. All in all, I found it to be a very underwhelming wrap-up of an extremely confusing season. First, though, I have to give them mad props for dusting the Colin character (even though they used a metal spike instead of a wooden stake - what's that about?) Dylan Vox's "Pursed Lips Of Evil" will not be missed at all, at least by me. I hope they can find a better actor to be the nemesis in Season 3. I also will not miss Thom's blonde bimbo friend at all - she was less than useless in Season 2.
I still have no idea what the purpose of the entire nocturnal murderous flower storyline was, other than having the "Simulated Moonlight" lamp in the lab to trigger Wolfboy Ian's transformation. Speaking of whom, I've seen better monster costumes in Ed Wood films than the one they stuck on Wolfboy Ian. I would honestly not be disappointed to see all the characters who were new this season disappear before Season 3 - although I was warming up a bit to Wolfboy and the lab assistant/porn star by the end.
The big eye opener was the "Behind The Scenes" special here!TV is running along with the finale. I found the interview with writer/director/producer Fred Olin Ray to be extremely funny (in a "Jeez, you really think you're talented, don't you?" way.) He honestly seems to think he's doing great work on The Lair. I checked his IMDB page, and it explains a lot - he's got a LONG history of putting together cheesy sexploitation/horror films, starting with "The Brain Leeches" in 1977. He's responsible for such notable cinematic crap as "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers," "Scream Queen Hot Tub Party" and "Girl With The Sex-Ray Eyes." It explans so much, and doesn't give me much hope that things will improve in Season 3.
My suggestions for Season 3 -
1. A new nemesis, played by an actor who can actually act.
2. More exploration of the Thom/Damian dynamic.
3. Bring back GhostFrankie - he was annoying as a live character, but as a ghost, he's fun, and his replacement seems like a stiff.
4. More unclothed Colton Ford/Sheriff Trout scenes - I keep waiting for a hot interrogation scene or some good cop-on-cop action.
5. Either re-open The Lair, or change the name of the show. The brief sex scenes at The Lair this season felt tacked on and pointless.
6. Drop the murderous flower story - it's going nowhere, and the botanist's dubbed voice is annoying.
Any more suggestions?

First, though, I have to give them mad props for dusting the Colin character (even though they used a metal spike instead of a wooden stake - what's that about?)
Unfortunately that means he'll probably come back from the dust in Season Three.
Well Charter in their infinite wisdom never bothered to make 209 available and the only thing I can say about that is THANK YOU! I'm not actually sorry I missed it.
I did however catch the behind the scenes special. The writer/director wasn't lying that in the second season the show goes crazy. So crazy it's stupid and you can't keep track of anything. Note to Mr. Ray, next season don't throw everything and the kitchen sink into a half hour show. You're never able to tell a coherent story if you're all over the place.
I will say though that I loved Colton Ford in that special. He's definitely got the right attitude about this project. He cracked me the heck up.
My suggestions for Season 3:
1. Don't for the love of god bring back Colin! Good riddance to bad rubbish in my opinion.
2. No more little flower of horrors. It was a bad idea that was executed in a really bad way. Move lab assistant into the werewolf story. I've finally accepted I'll only be able to get rid of one of the dreg stories dragging down my Thom/Damian fun.
3. I don't know what happened, if anything, between them in the Season Two finale. However, if you are going to keep Thom/Damian together in any form or fashion (enemies, frenemies, lovers) some storyline consistency would go a long way.
4. Expanding on your idea
giovannif7, a good way to up both the tension and the possible backstory for Thom/Damian would be to bring in another vamp, perhaps someone from Damian's history? And preferrably played by a decent actor.
Unfortunately, according to David Moretti's video blog at youtube, Season 3 has already finished filming so our suggestions at this point are moot. Which is too bad really because I think the show could benefit from our suggestions. Here's hoping they at least thinned the cast and story possibilities a little.
So
giovannif7 care to spill what happened to Thom/Damian in the finale since I couldn't watch it? I could care less about that other crap but those two I wouldn't mind knowing about.

So giovannif7 care to spill what happened to Thom/Damian in the finale since I couldn't watch it? I could care less about that other crap but those two I wouldn't mind knowing about.
In a nutshell, Thom goes to The Lair, and after watching a pointless threeway, runs into GhostFrankie, who tells him that he's been haunting Colin, and he's the one who's been trying to help Damian get rid of Colin. He tells Thom that the portrait is the key, that if Thom destroys it, Damien and the other Lair vampires (including Colin) will die. Portrait in hand, Thom finds his blonde bimbo friend Laura dead on the bar, bite marks on her neck. Colin enters and takes credit for killing her, then tries to talk Thom into switching sides and joining his team when he sees Thom is about to destroy the painting with a metal spike.
Damian finally enters and talks Thom out of destroying the painting, telling him that they're linked since "The Blood Ritual." After Colin spouts one too many bitchy insults, Damian takes the spike and throws it at Colin, but misses his heart. This pisses Colin off, and the three of them start fighting (fortunately, there's no bitchslapping involved.) Finally, as Colin is choking Damian (does choking a vampire do anything?), Thom picks up the metal spike and jams it directly into Colin's heart-area. Colin staggers around moaning for a minute before Damian clocks him into the wall, which dusts Colin. Damian again tells Thom that they are now linked, and that their love (?) can last forever. Thom is rather expressionless throughout the entire scene. Damian then starts kissing Thom, which quickly leads to Damian springing fangs and sinking them into Thom's neck.
At the end of the show, there's a scene in what appears to be the newly-reopened Lair. Damian gives Thom a big kiss, mingles with the customers, then talks to GhostFrankie at the bar. Frankie says he thinks his time at The Lair is done, and that he's ready to move on as soon as he gets a proper burial, noting that his replacement should work out fine given a chance. The replacement turns out to be Thom's goateed ex from earlier this season, looking very disoriented as he sweeps up in the club.
The End.
Oh, and in the other stories, the werewolf attacks the bounty hunter and then goes after the botanist, who has taken his plant for a walk in the moonlight. The bounty hunter gets ready to shoot the werewolf, but the plant sprays him and he dies. The sheriff and lab assistant show up, and the sheriff shoots the werewolf. The werewolf knocks the sheriff down, gets on top of him and looks him in the eye, then runs off. The sheriff goes after him, leaving the lab assistant to help the wounded botanist. The next day, Ian is found naked by his one-night-stand from the first episode of Season 2. The ONS covers Ian with a blanket and carries him back to his truck.
I will say though that I loved Colton Ford in that special. He's definitely got the right attitude about this project. He cracked me the heck up.
I totally agree - Colton Ford comes across as having a great attitude and an amazing sense of playful humor and fun, in addition to being incredibly hot! I guess that once you've done a bunch of porn films, you realize that, as an actor, you pretty much have to find the fun in whatever crap gets thrown at you.
I'll definitely have to go check out Moretti's YouTube Vlog - hopefully he'll say something encouraging about the next season, or at least give an idea as to when we can expect to see it.

Even in his most butch moments on The Lair, Vox's menacing act still lands him somewhere between Glenn Close as Cruella DeVille (101 Dalmatians) and Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan (Annie) on the Scale Of Evil. What this show needs is someone who could actually generate fear in grown men and other vampires. Hopefully Season 3 will introduce a more menacing villain.

I love that description. It's both absolutely hysterical and right on track at the same time.
Thanks for the run down on Thom/Damian. it figures the one episode I can't see is the one episode that's Thom/Damian heavy. That's just my run of luck.

They're baaaaaaaack!
Season 3 Episode 1 (of 13, from what I hear) is up on Here!TV On Demand as of today, and things seem to have improved quite a bit from the disjointed previous season. Gone are the botanist and his plant, as well as the werewolf and his bounty hunter. I was also pleased to see Dylan Vox missing from the credits, but based on this episode it seems Colin will be returning to the show later this season. I much prefer the new main character, the male Medusa - he definitely has the potential to be an appropriately creepy and scary force on the show.
I also have to say that, along with decent actors Peter Stickles and David Moretti, Brian Nolan's Frankie The Ghost has become likeable now that he isn't playing his scenes at a 9+ on the 10-point Hysterics scale, and Frankie Valenti/Johnny Hazzard's acting skills are showing some promise. Hopefully it means the producers are giving some thought to casting men who can play their roles convincingly (as well as looking good naked.) Plus, any show that hires both Colton Ford and Zak Spears has got my attention!

OMG. My soft porn/bad 80's sci-fi show is back. I finally realized who "Frankie" reminds me of: Spinelli from General Hospital, without the annoying geek speak.

Whoops, cancelled my Here! subscription 14 weeks too early. I'll have to rely on my TWOP friends for details.
Are Damian and Thom still together or has he finally woken from his blood exchange stupor?
I sure won't miss having to sit through Dylan Vox though.

Damian and Thom are still together - although Thom is questioning whether the relationship is working for him, thanks to his talks with GhostFrankie. Thom's health appears to be suffering from Damian's constant need to feed off of him, so the idea of an "open relationship" was floated in this ep - where Damian is allowed to bite other men. (As an aside, the story is veering uncomfortably close to HIV-issues territory for me, which I doubt is what is intended - I found myself having to push that issue out of my head several times during the premiere.)
The good news is that Dylan Vox is out of the credits and isn't currently appearing in the show (aside from flashbacks), although indications are that he may be making a return later this season - the ex-boyfriend of Thom's that Colin bit last year is now the janitor at The Lair, and is getting mysterious "I'll Be Back!" messages from Colin, which he is trying to pass along to Damian.
I'm really enjoying the new Medusa character - he could become a truly evil presence on the show, although chances are (knowing this show) that they'll mess it up and push him into ridiculousness like last year's botanist and his killer notcturnal plant. If you get curious about the new season but don't want to re-subscribe, I believe I read somewhere that their programs can be watched online at the Here!TV website rather than subscribing through cable, which might be worth checking out. I'm not sure if you can get individual programs, though, or if it's just another way of subscribing monthly.

Thanks for the details giovanninf7. I think I also remember reading about programs being available on the Here!TV website. I'll have to check that out.
The feeding from Thom/Biting other people issue does seem to be a bit uncomfortable and I agree that probably wasn't what they intended. But those comparisons are really hard to avoid when you're discussing taking strangers blood I'm sure.
This new Medusa character sounds really intriguing. It might be worth the subscription to the website to find out more about him. I'm really glad the evil botanist and his crazy killing flower are gone though. They could have kept the werewolf I suppose but I won't miss him either.
With Dylan Vox not in the credits, here's hoping we get at least a few Colin free episodes.

I know. I was hoping we'd get through more episodes before Colin was resurrected - at least we got two (almost) completely Colin-free episodes. I'm hoping against hope that Dylan Vox used the downtime between seasons to get some acting lessons, but based on his brief scene, he's going to be as ineffective as ever. The whole blood-letting resurrection scene was disturbing.
I may have been too hasty in thinking the show was actually becoming watchable, or maybe it's just that Episode 2 is practically wall-to-wall exposition. Between Sheriff Trout going online to research Medusa/Gorgon lore, GhostFrankie filling Thom in on the mysterious bookstore owner and the ring which can free Thom from any magical influence, plus the cute new rep for the mysterious wealthy European woman who wants to bankroll a Lair franchise, there was hardly any room for anything else.
I didn't think the Damian/Thom breakup would happen this quickly, but if I walked in on the vampire who professed his love for me getting blown by a naked guy with no biting going on, I'd have walked out too. I do give Damian points, though, for realizing that Thom probably isn't going to come back of his own free will - he may be evil, but he isn't completely delusional. I am still enjoying Thom and GhostFrankie's newfound friendship, and I love that GhostFrankie has a newly-dead cute boyfriend! No wonder he's no longer eager to be reburied so that he can move on.
I'm interested to get more backstory on this blond kid the sheriff once had living with him - so far I can't tell if he's the sheriff's boytoy, or if it's his son - on this show, though, my money would be on the the boytoy angle. And the sheriff answering the knock at the door to find nobody there is getting old - I half expect him to find a flaming bag of werewolf poop on the porch.
I'm also interested in the little "you're hot!" dance going on between Athan (the Medusa/Gorgon) and Tim, although I can't see it ending well. It was a nice touch for Athan to have a personally autographed first edition Oscar Wilde that he carries with him.
Next time - a hot bookstore owner, Athan gets to inspect Tim's tattoos up close, and gay pornstar du jour Barrett Long gets turned to stone. Now there's a sex toy I'd like to see!

I'm happy to say I'm enjoying most of what's going on this season, now that we're almost halfway through the 13 episodes. GhostFrankie has become my new favorite character, even with his Visible Head Trauma. I felt sorry for him when he said his new ghost-boyfriend was gone because his body was found, and I like that he's admitting to a little crush on Thom. I'm also liking the emergence of Thom's willingness to embrace Breaking & Entering and grave-robbing, although I did feel sorry for the bookstore guy who got used.
The Gorgon plot is completely cheese-tastic, and I love it - especially when the doc and the sheriff agreed to blame all the "hot guys are being turned to stone" victims on ossification! I guess a community willing to overlook a nest of vampires isn't going to be too concerned about guys being turned to stone in the backseat of cabs.
I'm still not sure if I'm supposed to be rooting for Thom and Damian to find their way back to each other - if I am, I wish they'd show some indication that Thom ever had any feelings for Damian outside of the ones Damian influenced Thom to have.
I understand this show needs to have the nudity and sex scenes, but the one in the storage closet of the Harbor Light that Colin walked in on this week seemed extra-random and gratuitous, considering the Harbor Light is supposed to be a bar, not a sex club.
My biggest laugh of the week was realizing that Colin pulled the same "steal from the register and put the money in the bartender's bag to frame him and get him fired" scam that Asslee Simpson's character on the new Melrose Place pulled this week. If MP wants to start getting some ratings, they should make Asslee's character an evil soul-less vampire rather than the stock psycho stalker she seems to be playing. I have to admit I felt a lot sorrier for Zak Spears than I did for the MP chick. I hope Damian hires him for The Lair - naked Zak Spears behind the bar at a sex club would be great for business!

I'm not sure what's happened, but the writing for season three has been a major improvement.
