I'm bummed out that CBS didn't pick this up, as it tested better than Viva Laughlin and Moonlight that were bothed picked up, and it sounded like it had potential. From the Futon Critic:
comedic drama in which the dead are resurrected and try to resume their former lives
I've read this show isn't dead yet, and still has a chance at being picked up for midseason. I hope that happens, as I can see Viva Laughlin, Moonlight and Swingtown bombing badly, and Cane could easily do so too.
It would have being nice if CBS could have fit this show into its line up, as zombies would be right at home among swingers, singing casino developers, vampires, and a rum moguls.

Well, we are talking about the network that dumped Jericho for Kid Nation, so I'm not surprised that they would pass on this intriguing-sounding show, which I personally thought would have been an excellent companion show for the former (CBS, just give me yet another reason to hate you with the fire of a thousand supernovae, why don't you?)

The
Futon Critic gave the pilot a glowing review, and
Pilot Buzz Central rated it as the fifth best pilot of over a hundred.
CBS screwed up. While they have made no secret of their plan to gain buzz from critics, watercoolers, and internet outlets, they did little to fuel that buzz. This show would have done it. The acting is exquisite, the writing surprisingly gripping, and the comedy rich. It is easily the best pilot most people won't see next year.

Wizard Magazine is reporting a midseason pickup. From what I heard, this is a very good pilot and I for one can't wait to see it.

Bad News:
Babylon Fields didn't get a midseason pick up, and from what I've heard, won't be getting one.
Good News:
The pilot has just leaked, feel free to PM me if you have trouble locating it. I saw it and have to say WOW, it was amazing. It was a fresh new concept that I hadn't seen before, and was intense, personal, sad and darkly funny at times. It's definatley one of the better pilots I've seen.

Thanks, Suburban Knight. Unfortunately, it isn't the complete pilot; just two clips that only total about 19 minutes' worth of viewing. Still, the show looked fantastic to me, and I have to wonder how and why in the the hell CBS passed on this show in favor of some of the dreck that actually did make it onto the fall schedule. Then again, this is the same network that canceled Jericho just when that show had finally found its voice, and only reversed that decision when the fans made it clear that they weren't going to let them get away with it.
Seriously, what were TPTB thinking?

I just got to watch the pilot (thanks for the tip Suburban Knight), and it was better than I though it would be. Zombies have been relegated to either the camp or horror genre, but this actually looked like an attempt to place it in a more realistic framework, like one of my favorites, the original Night of the Living Dead). To bad it didn't make it.

I just saw the pilot and it was quite interesting. Too bad CBS didnt go with it. It is much better than the rest of their new shows which don't seem to be doing the greatest right now.

I just saw this. It's brilliant. I can't describe how much I love it. It's really too bad this didn't make it because it was intriguing and had potential.
I hate it because I have questions that will never be answered.
CBS, you missed out on a good thing.

Absolutely mesmerizing. Wow. Too bad.
I find that this season hasn't offered up that many "Can't Miss" shows for me. This one would definitely have me tuning in anxiously each week.
Thanks for the heads up, folks. Well worth it.

This pilot was just beautiful. It did seem very low key and minimalist to me which was surprising considering it was about the dead rising, but it really worked well. There was some great acting in the pilot - especially by the actress who played Martha. The scene with her and her undead husband really blew me away. Just beautiful. I'm embarrased to admit I had tears in my eyes during that scene.
I'm still annoyed it wasn't picked up, but what's worst is the shows that got picked up instead of Babylon Fields.
I guess these aren't spoilers considering all and all, but I remember reading in an article that the writers had planned out things for additional episodes, including the undead characters going to a 'zombie support group' together, and that Ernie would have tried to become a good man after he discovered that his wife and daughter feared him so much they killed him.
The idea of every dead person coming back also really interested me. I guess that would have included famous people? If it had been picked up I would have loved if they made occasional references to Elvis working on a new album or JFK joining the 2008 Presidential race.

After news of Walking Dead being in development I started thinking of this wonderful show that could have been but alas it only got a pilot. If you have a chance and like different and unique shows and don't mind Zombies I would give this show a chance it was utterly brilliant.
This is probably the only Pilot I would ever consider buying either via digital download or straight DVD It was that good. They should put it on ITunes ala Aquaman.
