I thought the tour deserved its own thread.

Link to the tour website

Not alot of info yet, although tickets go on sale this weekend. I went last year and it was really enjoyable. I hope they add more dates since there is nothing for Seattle.
Slacker
Is it hard to get tickets? I'm thinking of getting some for my wife for our anniversary and they go on sale next week. Should I be ready to start clicking at 10:00 AM on Monday?

ETA: Oh, and are they expensive?
kid robinski
$167 (yoiks) on the floor where I live. $92 next tier. Bit rich for my blood.
Aurinos
Poop, no Seattle date? Maybe my husband and I will have to trek up to Vancouver, BC - we're already chipping in with my brother-in-law and sisters-in-law to get my mother-in-law tickets for Mother's Day (my in-laws are pretty snappy ballroom dancers, if I do say so myself - they've been taking lessons for a few years now)!
BettyFiona
I was thinking of waiting it out to see if they do have a Seattle date, but I may have to just get the Vancouver tickets. They presale on Friday. I put in my email for a presale code but haven't received anything. If someone else gets the code, hopefully they will post it. That is how I got my presale last time.

Dammit! I was so disappointed I couldn't go last year because I had already planned a vacation so when I heard they were going on tour again this year (and with Drew again!) I squeed like a four-year-old. But dammit! They don't have a California date this time. I live in the Bay Area but would be willing to travel to LA or San Diego but there are no California dates whatsoever. ARGH!!

Do you guys know if they'll end up adding more dates later? Did they do that with the first tour?
sgupta4
That looks like a horrible tour schedule and I'm not just saying that because there is no date for DC! Nothing for NY, New England, CA, Pacific NW, or the Midwest. I guess they can design their tour schedule any which way they want but they are skipping huge sections of the country.

Was the first tour not financially successful?
legaleagle44
Hmm--it does look as though anything to the west or north of Texas is pretty much left out in the cold (yet Canada appears to be very well covered.) Hopefully, they'll add Los Angeles as the point of origin, and if they do that, they'll have to pass through Phoenix on their way to Austin. *crosses fingers*
pinetree22
Was the first tour not financially successful?

I've tried searching for the article I read, but its old and I can't find it online anymore. The tour was very successful financially. I think it placed 2nd on the top ten list of money-making tours (for the season). I remember being surprised when I read that, but then it made more sense when I remembered Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City being so packed for their last tour date.

ETA....(for the season). I don't want anyone to think I meant it was the 2nd highest grossing concert tour ever.
jeterette

New England is covered a little -- I saw three dates listed for CT; 2 @ Mohegan Sun, 1 @ the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport.

Still peeved there's no California date. Stupid tour.

Anyway, from the above link, it looks like the dancers will be:

Cheryl & Drew
Edyta & Joey (Lawrence)
Kym & Joey (Fatone)
??? & Joey (McIntyre)
Louis & ???
Julianne & ???

Will Julianne dance with Joey? I doubt that Apolo would go on tour if he's still in training.

Man, I really just want to see Cheryl & Drew. Why oh why are they not coming to California? Their last date is in Vancouver. Can't they just skip on down to California? It's only two states down. [/whine]
TryingHarder
Will Julianne dance with Joey?
Yes, she is dancing with Joey Mac.
Double Delight
Cheryl & Drew
Edyta & Joey (Lawrence)
Kym & Joey (Fatone)

Julianne & ???

Maybe Karina will dance with Louis now that Lisa's off in Chicago. That would be all kinds of awesome... except those idiots don't have a Seattle show scheduled. Bummer.
msrayrudd
I doubt Karina would be doing it or she would already be mentioned in the press release. All the other familiar pro dancers are mentioned, even if they don't have a celebrity dance partner as yet.
BettyFiona
I am still holding out hope that more dates will be added. Especially since there are no CA dates in addition to the lack of a Seattle date. Maybe after Vancouver they will make their way down!
MDKNIGHT
Last time I saw them at the Nassau Coliseum. They aren't doing that this year apparently. I bought tickets for Bridgeport. My guess is they figured the same people wouldn't pay to see the new tour that saw the first, so they were afraid to go to the same sites. I think they are wrong however since I am certainly going again.

It IS too bad that Apolo won't have time to do this because he'd be awesome. On one hand I'm happy to see Drew again OTOH I'm sad he's got the time to do it. I really hope for the best for his career.
Why do I love Drew so much and can't stand Fatone? I'm OK that Fatone will be on this however because if DWTS WEREN'T a ballroom competition his dances wouldn't bother me. Star Wars as a show dance is great...it just isn't whatever the hell dance they were supposed to be doing. Just as some other dances they did looked great but weren't whatever they were supposed to be doing.
GreyGooseLemon
"My guess is they figured the same people wouldn't pay to see the new tour that saw the first, so they were afraid to go to the same sites. I think they are wrong however since I am certainly going again. "

I got my tickets for the Dallas show. I agree with you MDKnight: I went last yr to the Nashville show (closest to Dallas) and I loved it, so I'm thrilled its here."

I'm curious on who Alec and Louise will dance with! It just says special apprearances. Has anyone heard how that will work?
annlaw78
I saw the Austin show, and it was awesome. The Boybanders have a Rat Pack-type montage they do, and Joey Mac sings a couple of other numbers. Joey Mac was also available for autographs and photos after the show -- the line was crazy-long. He is absoultely adorable.

Joey Mac was partnered with Julianne Hough, and they did a couple of the Apolo-Julianne routines. Louis only danced once, in a rumba(?) set to Enrique's "Hero" with Cheryl, Alec, and Edyta. He was probably also in some of the group dances, but it was hard to pick him out. Alec had another pro dance, and he was dancing with a pro I didn't recognize. Alec is also in most of the group dances. Most of the male pros have the same tan, slicked-back dark hair look that Alec rocks, so it can be tricky to pick him out as well.

I'd really recommend looking into the VIP Package or getting the more expensive seats (or seats that are at the front of the stage), if y'all are really gung-ho about it. I think I missed a bit trying to figure out whether to look up at the screens, or down at the stage.

Anyways, it was a great show, and definitely made me excited about the next season (starts 9/24). I really, really hope that Alec is back, and has a partner that he can go far with. After seeing him on the huge screens, I have come to the realization that he really needs to be back on my television on a weekly basis. And, that I should probably get a life!
GreyGooseLemon
Ok, I'm really excited for tomorrow night after reading your post. It sounds like some of the routines will be similar to what they did last year.

Glad Alec is featured more this time around. Do Alec and Edyta do a solo? I wish they would reprise the "Save the last dance" that they did do Buble in S3. I LOVED it.

I also have to agree that he really needs to be on my TV screen every week for S5.

There was an ad in Sunday's paper saying there would be Special Appearances, I'm hoping its Emmitt since we are in Dallas
annlaw78

I don't think he and Edyta have a solo dance. I think he has a solo dance with Elena/Irina(?) (I can't recall whether there was another couple swapping on and off the floor with them -- I think it was a solo).

The boybanders are really cute, and it seems like they genuinely like each other (and I'm including Joey Lawrence as a boybander, even though he really isn't, unless you count being one of the Lawrence Brothers). Of course, this is the beginning of the tour, so perhaps they aren't sick of one another yet!
MarigoldSkye
Ah, I was trying to figure out if it'd be worth it for me to drive to another state and see it, and it really doesn't sound like it. But maybe next time? I wouldn't mind seeing Joe Mac. I'm so torn!

Well, you'll get to see the Apolo-Julianne routines that are new (with Joey Mac dancing Apolo's part), and the Fatone-Kym dances. Drew and Cheryl dance their "Thriller" and "Save a Horse" routines. And the Joey-Joey-Joey-Drew schtick is pretty cute. I didn't see last year's, so I really don't know how much is duplicative. Don't know if that helps or not!
SoCalLabRat
Thanks for sharing about the tour, annlaw78. I'm still very upset that they're not making any stops in southern California so it's nice to hear from people who are lucky enough to see it in person.

Which Apolo/Julianne routines did Julianne and JoeyMac do? I wonder how she would compare the two guys as dancers...
annlaw78
Louis on the Tour

Louis says, by way of comparison, that the male pros from the show each have a solo, and are on the floor for all of the group dances (I don't think he's including Brian in this, as I don't recall Brian having a solo). Louis and Julianne have a solo that was a bit squicky for me because of the age difference, and it seems more lyrical than ballroom. But, what do I know?

As for Joey Mac-Julianne's dances, I know they do the "I Like to Move It" samba, but I can't recall the other dance. Boo, me!
GreyGooseLemon
I went to the show in Dallas on Friday night.

Not much else to add from annlaw. The show was 2 1/2 hours of fun!
Louis and Juliann danced a contemporary routine that was beautiful.

All the Pros had sols this time around, but your favorites from the show. Someone asked about Brian, he didn't have a solo and wasn't really featured except in the group dances.

The crowd loved Joey Fatone and went crazy with the freestyle and the Jive from this past season.

The singing from the Joey's and Drew was a relaxing break from all the action. They sounded good, loved the "rat pack" songs and the screens showed scenes of old Vegas.

I did find out the Edyta pulled a groin muscle and that's why she wasn't in the solo with Alec. Her and Alec did do the Rumba to Hero with Louis and Cheryl. She was able to dance her other routines with Joey.
Alec looked fantastic and he was in almost every routine, so I was a happy camper!

Alec's brother Genya. I've never seen him before. He danced mainly with Cheryl in the group routines and was really good. Reminds me of Alec, but shorter, more compact, but he doesn't have the arm extension length that Alec does.

I would recommend it anyone who has a city close.

I was at the same show. Loved it! Not that it really matters, but Brian danced with Kym to the Bond theme routine wearing that ridiculous gold jacket. I don't know if that qualifies as a solo. He should be disqualified for that jacket alone. Anyway, did anyone else notice problems with the lights? I thought I was going blind till Joey Mac, during the Rat Pack number, said something like "Hey, I could use a spotlight here." Oh well, still worth every penny. Oh, and Fatone cracked me up when he began singing "the stars at night, are big and bright" and the audience responds. Wonderful. But they should have canned the Mavericks joke.
GreyGooseLemon
I forgot about the light problems on that 1 song. They blinded us!
Yea I liked the James Bond dance, but don't like Brian or the gold jacket, so it left my memory completely.
Didn't Maks, Tony and Jesse do that on S3? They look more like the James Bond type

I think it was Maks, Tony, and Jonathan (yum!).

How is Joey Fatone doing the tour if he's also hosting NBC's summer show, "The Singing Bee"?

Haven't seen this posted yet, so I thought I'd bring it over:

Apolo Joins "Dancing" Tour
MDKNIGHT
Fabulous. It looks like I'll be one of the lucky ones to see Apolo if that is accurate. I hadn't had any hope at all that that would be the case since I figured he's be too busy.
sgupta4
Apolo is going to be on part of the tour and it's not coming to DC???? ARRRRGHHHHHHH!
TryingHarder
There are a few new tour videos posted on youtube.

I wonder if poor Joey Mac will lose his partner when Apolo comes aboard?

Some friendly advice to those with tickets to the DwtS tour:

If you are lucky enough to have seats at the edge of the ballroom floor, bring sunglasses or be prepared to be blinded by the rotating spotlights in the big group dance before intermission. Very annoying, but fortunately they are not used too often. If you are located in the left front corner (facing the stage), you will see Joey Fatone and Drew Lachey up close and personal during certain dances.

If you are an adult male, you may want to bring earplugs to help cut down the high-pitched screams coming from female audience members. You will find these useful whenever then introduce Joey (Fatone) & Drew (and definitely expect it for Apolo, if you are so lucky). Don't get me wrong--I was excited too, but I'm not trying to let dogs five blocks away know it.

You may see minor mistakes, either by the dancers or stagehands (that's what makes a live show so lively, right?). In the Austin show (6/20/07), Joey over-rotated on his one-handed handstand and tumbled--he took it well and laughed it off. Spotlights were sometimes off the dancers. A couple of the "house dancers" bumped into each other now and then. No major mishaps, though, and all the more remarkable seeing it up close.

You really don't appreciate the difficulty as much on TV as you do on stage where the exertion, heavy breathing, and sweat are more apparent. The pros make it look effortless, but it takes much more athleticism than you think. Kudos to all of them.

Warning: you will see a clip of Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris at the beginning welcoming you to the tour--it's thankfully short.

Favorite parts of the show: Drew & Cheryl's freestyle "Ride a Cowboy", Joey Fatone & Kym's freestyle "Last Dance", and any pro dance that included Cheryl/Kym/Julianne. I could also see a band called "Three Joeys and a Drew" make a big splash in the Vegas lounge act circuit...their nod to the Rat Pack (singing with playful banter in-between) was surprisingly smooth.

Least favorite part of the show: Kym & ? dancing to the James Bond theme--it's just not the same without Jerry Springer.

If you are a big fan and can afford it, the seats by the ballroom floor are worth the money. The nosebleed seats will have big screen monitors to get a good view, but if you wanted to see the show on a big screen TV, you might as well just stay home and watch old shows from your VCR or TiVo.

According to somebody's report from the tour last night Joey Fatone didn't appear in last night's show. It was one of the stops Apolo performed at, so perhaps Joey F. is taking off on the nights that Apolo dances. I wouldn't be surprised if it is beneficial to both and allows Joey F. to go back to LA and tape a little bit for his upcoming game show.

Was anybody there?

I do wonder though. Did Joey Mac dance with Kym instead so Julianne could dance with Apolo?
SoCalLabRat

Yes, JoeyMac danced with Kym and Julianne danced with Apolo (samba, Bust a Move freestyle, and 2 group dances). I wasn't there but I saw their dances on that one site with all the video clips.

I've actually never watched the show, but was dragged along for the live show in Raleigh last night. My family had a table at the right hand corner of the stage, so it was pretty exciting even though I wasn't familiar with the show. Predictably, the crowd went absolutely nuts when Apolo was introduced. Personally, having been an NSYNC fan at the tender age of 13, I would have loved to see Joey Fatone as well.

Hi everyone, Going to the show tonight in Atlantic City and will give my impressiona as soon as possible. from what I have heard, it is supposed to be better than last year- we'll see!!
SnowyScrewYou
BallB44, have a great time! Let us know how it was. Oh, keep your eye out for Julianne's boyfriend. I read (see link below - scroll down to bottom) that he was at the show last night.

Saw the show at Bridgeport July 3. It was great fun once the shear hell of parking came to an end. Apparently there was a baseball game in the next building so the Arena (which I think normally houses hockey) was gridlocked with a billion police officers waving you around and around a 4 block radius looking for a not full parking lot. I did three full cycles. The show was fabulous and yes Apolo was there and not Fatone which suited me fine since I never warmed to Fatone. Move it Move it was well recieved as you can surely guess. Something which may have been unique to Bridgeport is that John Ratzenburger did his dance to Love is In the Air with Edyta. He said he was from Bridgeport so I figured he just dropped in for one dance (and the final bow) in his old hometown and that he wasn't part of the regular tour? He was very well recieved too and I still say that although not showy on his part it was a solid dance. Edyta wore a gold outfit that as usual was barely there. Good God that woman's body is unearthly. All the dancer bodies are godlike in person.

Went to the Mohegan Sun show in CT last night, and it was amazing. We went backstage after the show, courtesy of Brian Fortuna. What a doll he is - cute as a bug. He must not be terribly photogenic, because in real life he's got the look of a 40's matinee idol. He's incredibly charming as well, which I hadn't expected. Met Joey Fatone as well, and he was - literally - like the guy next door. I didn't especially care for him on the show, because I found him to be over the top, but he was just a plain old nice guy in person.

We had a fantastic time. One of the best shows I've been to in ages.

BallB44 come back, come back! LOL! I went to the Atlantic City show for the first tour, but couldn't go this summer because I was on vacation and out-of-state. I'm dying to hear what you thought of it!
Elsa
I grew to really love Brian Fortuna, after an iffy start. I hope he's competing in the next season. He's such a sweetheart, like Jonathan. I think those two guys have the warmest personalities of the male pro's, which is important when you're dealing with inexperienced and/or touchy celebs.
TweedleDitz
Yippee!! Tomorrow is the last day of the tour. That means the clock is ticking closer to the start of the next season.
BallB44
Back by popular demand. I didn't report back due to the reason that I didn't want to be negative. I went to 4 shows over the past two tours. Maybe because of the initial excitement, I liked the first tour better. It seemed to be missing someting without Karina. The new dancer were a disappointment. Anya had trouble keeping up with many of the numbers. Inna & Eugeny. Well they added little, and were a down grade from Christian and Annette. Inna appears to be short legged with a low slung butt. While her partner is a pecil thin guy with no real charisma.
Paul Barris is a good looking guy, but a downgrade from Derek

The first number featured the couples doing a sampling of the dancers just like last year. Genya Mazo did the jive with Irina, for me it didn't have the same explosiveness as Brian & Karina from the last tour. Paul Barris did the Mambo with Anya, just not as good as Christian Perry & Annette. Louie and Julianne were the hit of the night with an exquisit solo Rumba. Best of the night. The male stars didn't seem as sharp as last tour. Could be just due to inactivity between tours. All of the pro girls and guys that returned from last tour were great. Newcomers left something to be desired.

The night ended with a group bow this year, which left me hanging. While last year the group ended with about 3 minutes of the exciting Disco Inferno and individual bows and intoductions. I know it may be nit picking but I enjoyed the first tour more than this one.

Louie must be given special accolades for a job well done. It must be hell dealing with all the egos. The after reception was nice, but many of the pros and stars don't show up. Cheryl never shows up. Julianne, Louie, Brian, and Christian are fixtures at the after receptions. Signing many autorgaphs and taking pictures with everyone. Thanks guys, see you next time.
SD Dude
Just curious. Is the after-reception open to any ticket holder, or is it a more private event?
PezKat
Tix go on sale Saturday... any news of a presale?
BettyFiona
I second the question on presale. If anyone gets a code, please post it!
sgupta4
I'll third the question on the presale. I won't be able to get in front of a computer this coming Saturday morning at 10 AM. So, I'd prefer to buy it ahead of time to get the best possible seat.
