This is the place to discuss who's rumored to be signing up and who you'd like to see sign up. Remember that plain lists are frowned upon, so be sure to discuss your reasons why and all.
I'll start the ball rolling:
It's been rumored that Deborah Gibson is signing up, having been spotted in the audience for the last two seasons. While I think she would be good, but no ringer, I think she's used up her allotted Reality TV Comeback time already as a judge on that American Idol for kids show and on Skating with Celebrities....
Who else is up for next year?

I know that Jennifer Aniston expressed interest, but for one reason or another, has not been cast. I would personally love to see her do it. But would it be considered a step down? And would the producers not select her because such a big star would dominate the votes?

Sela Ward - she was in the audience recently so I wonder if she's there (like Leeza was last year) as prep for next season. She's one gorgeous 50+ woman.
Florence Henderson - I'd so love her! She seems like a kick.
Donny Osmond - he seems like he'd be a lot of fun.
Dan Marino or Joe Montana -- two hot former pro football champions

What... no Alfonso Ribeiro love here?? Granted, he'd have to get a shorter partner (bring Julianne back!), but he moved pretty well last night. Oh, I forgot... wasn't he in "The Tap Dance Kid" on Broadway when he was a kid? He'd be more of a ringer than anyone this year (Joey???). He'd lose a hell of a lot of weight, that's for sure.

Well, back in her day, FloHen was quite the chanteuse...but I'm not sure of her dancing skills. She was big on Broadway, but might be rusty now. They might be talking to her, which would explain her attendance at yesterday's show....since I don't know if she knows any of this year's stars.
Donny, while I'd love to see him, is one of the original boy bands, so would he be in the "older" slot or the "boy band" slot? ;)
Alfonso Ribeiro won the singing competition they had on (the one with Carly Patterson and Cheech Marin), so I'm not sure I'd want him back so quickly.

Just posted this on another thread - not used to all this freedom and versatility we now have! I say Sasha Cohen. She's so petite and has had ballet so I think she would be awesome. Also, how about the "Flying Tomato" - can't remember his real name, but I'd like to see what a really coodinated snowboarded could do with ballroom. I'd be willing to put figure skaters out of the running....the training and performance they are required to bring is too close to competitive ballroom dancing, IMO. Gymnasts are different, since many floor routines can lack rhythm and/or dancing grace, so I'd be willing to go with someone like Kerri Strug or Dominique Mocianu (just got married). NOT Dominique Dawes, though. Don't like her....

How about some ABC soap stars?
Jason Thompson (Patrick, GH) is so very hot, or Kimberly McCullough (Robin), who has been on GH since she was a little girl. However, I think Kimberly has an extensive dance background (not ballroom though).
Or maybe they could stick Steve Burton (Jason), Maurice Bernard (Sonny) or Laura Wright (Carly) on there and cut down their time on GH...I'd go for that!
You know I'd love to see? Balky from Perfect Strangers! I forget the actors name, but I loved Balky. There's also Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin, John Stamos (yes please!), Kellie Martin, etc.

OMG yes. I would LOVE to see that. She's tiny so Louis could partner her.
I think the poster that said figure skaters should be out due to being ringers is probably right. I imagine that Torvold or Dean could wipe the floor with anybody who has been on without breaking a sweat.
She's on a show now but maybe during a lull, what do people think about Sally Fields?
As for David Carridine I bet he'd love to ballroom dance. I remember a SNL sketch he did were he professed that he had always wished to make a living with his feet but not Kung Fu kicking , dancing. Of course the producers would HAVE to rent Kung Fu Fighting, they just wouldn't be able to avoid it. He's a little old but last I saw him in a commercial he seemed to still be fit. They defiantely should ask him.

Anderson Cooper.
He already has/had an ABC connection (The Mole), and if nothing else, him being on DWTS would make for a great fluff piece on his CNN show.
Or how about any other reality show host - Julie Chen, Phil Keoghan, Jeff Probst, Kennedy - the list goes on.
Going off of DarkVamp's Tara Conner idea, I suggest another former beauty queen - Susie Castillo. Miss USA 2003 (the one who passed her crown to Shandi), MTV host, and I need a reason for her to stay away from hosting any more MTV reunion shows for a while.
...Or, what could be one of the biggest comebacks ever in terms of positive PR - Tara Reid. She needs all the help she can get.

I'm surprised David Carradine hasn't been asked to take part again, given that he selflessly trained with Ashley all the while knowing he may not even get on the show. Of the suggestions on the last page, he'd be my number 1 choice with Peachy Probst a close second.
I was having a brain fart when I initially read the post about Sasha Cohen, and thought the poster was suggesting Sasha Baron Cohen. I was trying to imagine what Ali G would be like on the dancefloor. Oh, and why the poster was referring to him as she...
I think one of the big reasons why women celebs generally don't seem to do as well on this show is sheer name power. Everyone knows Jerry's Rice and Springer, Emmit Smith, Joey Lawrence, John Ratzenberger and, if not Drew Lachey, then at least his brother Nick, but (and no offence intended) comparatively, who the hell are Leeza Gibbons, Shanna Moaklar and... now I'm struggling to even remember names. Beautiful as Paulina Porizkova was and still is, the producers should have been aiming for a Claudia Schiffer or a Cindy Crawford, or even a Naomi Campbell if they think they can handle the crazy well enough. In the 3 seasons I've at least partially watched, the only 2 women whose names I've recognised instantly were Tia Carrere and Stacy Keibler. Even Laila Ali took a few minutes for me to figure out. As such, if Jennifer Aniston really has shown an interest, and they really want a woman to have a chance of winning (assuming she'd be any good), the producers should be going all-out to get her for next season.
Oh, and on that note, I'd also like to suggest Martina Navratilova and Venus Williams. I think Venus in particular definitely has the potential to be graceful on the dancefloor despite her height, they both would be quick on their feet, and both already have built-in fanbases.

Jennifer Aniston has expressed interest in DwtS? Really! That blows my mind. Most celebs of her caliber are too snotty (and busy) to give it the time of day. I'd love for a woman to have an actual chance at making it far, but what if her dancing blows? I still shudder to think what would have happened if Sara Evans' husband wasn't a scumbag.

Wow, I didn't even know there was a singing competition. That makes me sad, because I think he'd be perfect for DWTS. Oh well.
I'd like to see Christopher Knight (Brady Bunch) or his wife Adrianne (America's Next Top Model) do it.

Mention of Adrianne Curry above made me think of Janice Dickinson, but I think they (or we?) need a rule to keep out anyone who has been on The Surreal Life. Of course that would also eliminate Bronson "Balky" Pinchot.
When my brother heard that Salman Rushdie and Padma Lakshmi were divorcing, his comment was, "I have four words: Dancing With The Stars."
What I don't know is which one he envisioned on the show.
Sacha Baron Cohn could do the show -- one week he'd be Ali G, the next, Bruno, and so on.

They're divorcing? I missed that bit of news.
I noticed Kathy Griffin in the audience tonight, she's just the level of celebrity that this show would go after. Plus she'd crack wise, so she might be fun. Probably paired with Louis.

Barry Bostwick - he'd fill in the George Hamilton/John Hurley slot nicely. Who was that gorgeous woman who was on Deep Space Nine and then the show with Ted Danson? She's tall and beautiful at least.
Speaking of Star Trek - that is an untapped fountain of fan support. Anyone from The Next Generation would be a hoot - Jonathan Frakes is married to Genie Francis from General Hospital so there's an ABC connection right there. And he could stand to lose some weight.
I think it is harder to find female celebs, because they have either be really good dancers or really good sports. I think it is easier for the men to come off as self-deprecating and mediocre but well-intentioned. I don't know if it's because the judges are harder on the women or the audience is.

I second the idea of Christie Brinkley - one hot mama over 50 and she'd likely have a wide fan base that would keep her in there for a while (unlike past women over 50).
I like the idea of Ted Danson too - very funny guy, I could see him bringing a bit of Jerry Springer-funny to the show.
If you want a sassy, still very attractive much older woman, how about Michele Lee? (used to be married to Robert Goulet). And Florence Henderson? Yes, yes, yes!
Whoever they get, please no more women over 40 whose past success is so in the past that they have no chance against the male celebs...just not fair!

My two first choices were mentioned already:
Anderson Cooper-oh how my heart pitter pats at the thought of seeing Anderson swivel his hips. Sigh.
Jeff Probst- I'd love to see him in a situation where he didn't get to be the smug one in control, which makes it sound like I don't love him but I do.
Additionally, I'm probably alone in this one but I'd love to see Jay Manuel from ANTM for much the same reason that I'd love to see Probst. I love him, but I'd like to see him pushed out of his comfort zone when he spends so much time pushing others.
And finally, for the old "who is that again?" slot I'd love to see Greg Evigan (My Two Dad's, BJ and the Bear and an episode or two of Reba) because he was a hottie when I was 10 and he's still a hottie now.
