Thanks for posting this, Micha. I'm a little surprised (pleasantly) that the show has continued to perform so well this season. Though the results show goes up against a few other shows I like to watch, I think ABC made a real smart decision in putting the performance show on Monday nights.

Sure, no problem, Doctor Gori. :) I think it's interesting to see how this show does ratings-wise this season, as well. I think it was an extremely smart idea to move the performance show to Mondays. There are so few show that are standouts on Monday nights, that ABC had a real shot at taking Mondays by moving it there. It does seem to be proving true, they are either tied with CBS for the night or winning the night outright. That is not bad for a network that was pulling in 3rd and 4th place standings on Mondays, a month or so ago.
Here are more details on how the show performed last night in the 18-49 demo (Nielsen Media Research):
At 8/7c demo rating of 4.7 among 18-49 yr olds
At 9/8c demo rating of 5.4 among 18-49 yr olds
________________________________________
The average over the hour and a half show was a demo rating of 4.9 among 18-49yr olds

I'm happy to see DwtS doing so well... but Heroes comes back next Monday and that will be the real test I think.
For me as well... because I love Heroes and I've been waiting for its return.
That being said... they won't need an hour and a half for too much longer I should think and that will help matters.

Rating info from Monday Night is from
pifeedback/MediaLife/Nielsen:
-Ratings Breakdown:
Led by the addictive Dancing With the Stars, ABC opened the week on a winning note with an advantage over the No. 2 network (CBS in total viewers; NBC among adults 18-49) of 2.18 million viewers and five percent in the demo. Fox was fourth in both categories, followed by lagging The CW in the distant No. 5 spot.
Dancing With the Stars was the most-watched show of the evening, with 18.66 million viewers (and a 4.9 rating/13 share among adults 18-49) from 8-9:30 p.m. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:
Dancing With the Stars
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 16.45 million, A18-49: 4.1 rating/13 share
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 19.15 million, A18-49: 5.0/14
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 20.39 million, A18-49: 5.5/13
Second in the 8 p.m. hour behind Dancing With the Stars was NBC’s Deal or No Deal at a healthy 10.84 million viewers and a 3.3/10 among adults 18-49. Next were CBS comedies How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: 6.20 million; A18-49: 2.3/ 7), which was a repeat, and The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: 6.93 million; A18-49: 2.4/ 7), followed by Fox’s stalled Drive (Viewers: 4.60 million; A18-49: 1.8/ 5), and CW comedies Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 3.01 million; A18-49: 1.3/ 4) and All of Us (Viewers: 2.40 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 3).
Dancing With the Stars, of course, took the 9 p.m. half hour, with 20.39 million viewers and a 5.5/13 among adults 18-49. Combined with the first half hour of another 90-minute edition of The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman (Viewers: #4, 10.56 million; A18-49: #4, 3.5/ 8), ABC averaged a dominant 15.47 million viewers and a 4.5/11 in the demo in the 9 p.m. hour. Also airing from 9-10 p.m. were CBS’ Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 12.23 million; A18-49: #3, 3.9/10) and soon-to-conclude The King of Queens (Viewers: #1, 12.50 million; A18-49: #2, 4.1/10), NBC’s Heroes (Viewers: #3, 11.98 million; A18-49: #1, 5.3/13), Fox’s 24 (Viewers: #4, 10.31 million; A18-49: #4, 3.9/10), and The CW’s Girlfriends (Viewers: #5, 2.40 million; A18-49: #5, 1.2/ 3) and The Game (Viewers: #5, 2.51 million; A18-49: #5, 1.1/ 3). As predicted, Heroes won the hour among adults 18-49, but 24 deserves an “honorable mention” for building out of Drive by 5.71 million viewers and 117 percent among adults 18-49.

Sorry for the double post, but I wasn't sure if the thread would bump without a new post.
Update on the length of the show for next Monday:
Start time, 8/7 Central
End time, 9:45/8:45 Central
We get the extended episodes earlier this year, than last, if I remember correctly.

Someone here, during Season 2, predicted Drew's win based on the fact that he was always the last one to dance each week towards the end. According to the poster, Drew was being slated to dance last because he was the network's guarantee to their advertisers of a certain number of eyeballs based on the votes he was pulling in each week. Has anybody been able to pick up such a pattern this season? I haven't but I haven't carefully tracked it either.

So how quickly do videos of the dances get put up at various websites? Or even better, is there anyplace that streams the show live? Unfortunately, it seems that the ABC affiliate in Boston is going to be showing football tonight and running DwtS at 1:50am. Since I neither feel like staying up until 3:45am or getting up at 3:45am so I could watch before going to work, I hate that I won't be able to vote.
As if it's not annoying enough now, I'm a little bit concerned because it looks like the Patriots have one other Monday night football game scheduled for what I calculate to be semi-final night. Maybe if we start harrassing WCVB now, they'll come up with some accomodation for that night.

The same thing is happening in Buffalo this coming Monday. WKBW is showing a simulcast of the Bills/Cowboys game. They offered to put the show on their sister station WNGS at its normal time, but we're told "no" by ABC. The station is already telling viewers to set their recorders for a minimum of three hours to catch the show.

Word, especially since the BBC has been airing DWTS: US in the UK for the past two seasons now. Which reminds me that I've been meaning to ask how well our show has been received over there (and this would be a more appropriate thread for such an inquiry than the SCD thread, methinks); are the British viewers as into our pros and celebrities as some of us have gotten into theirs?

DWTS numbers look steady - 18.2 million watched Monday's episode.
"Dancing With the Stars" was easily the biggest draw Monday night. The two-hour dance contest averaged 18.2 million viewers for ABC.
Disney-owned ABC won the night in total viewers, but CBS was more popular among the 18-to-49 age group so dear to advertisers.

The results show ratings were actually beaten by The Mentalist. As hot as I used to find Simon Baker in his Guardian days, I still never expected his new show to have that much ratings heft. I think DWTS is going to have to start thinking revamp. A half-hour results show may be a good idea. Finding other show on Tuesday that are popular in their own right would also help. DWTS can't keep surviving season after season with struggling shows before or after it on Monday and Tuesday.

The Mentalist doing well does not surprise me. It had buzz and it fits into that CBS line up well. Back on topic, I agree ABC needs another hit because part of why ABC stretches on the results show and puts DWTS on twice a year because of a weak line up. The padded results show with an obvious elimination probably did not help.

I would love a shortened results show, but I don't think it will happen until the general ratings for the show really start to tank or, as you mentioned, ABC finds some other show that draws an audience and can fill up the airtime.
It's interesting that the number of Monday show viewers has dropped into the 'teens (in millions of course), especially so early in the season. They were usually in the low twenties in past seasons.

Too much DWTS right now, ABC. In comparing season to season ratings, it looks like weeks 3-4 is when the show dips into the teens (million) and then jumps back to 20 some million by week 6. With the talk of dipped ratings last season and maybe ABC burning this show out this season, I am curious to see if this similar trend continues or we'll see it stay in the teens by week 6.
