Is anybody else watching this ridiculous little show at 2:00 a.m. on FNC? It's so juvenile and obnoxious, yet I can't seem to miss an episode!
The
NYT did
a great piece on it the other day.

The show sounds like a real Con's worst nightmare--portraying Cons as vapid, shallow, unserious, wackadoos. Calling any Con I know any of those terms is guaranteed fighting words.
I've also read Greg's "column" on HuffPo. I think that 40 year old "publicist" living in his parent's basement was pretty much the only one who liked Greg's work there (I sure as hell didn't and not always about the politics either, but rather to the fact that Gregers comes across as an incredibly self absorbed and smug asshole through his writing.)
And Rachael Marsden? Canada's alleged equivalent of Ann Coulter? I'm sure she'll go far based on her looks (she is an attractive woman). Based on her history, I wonder if Bill O'Reilly is sniffing around?

Well, you guys, I like Greg. Yes, I'm an idiot and nobody wants to talk to me about really important stuff, but it's nice to have something new to watch after (it seems) everybody else has gone to sleep. His little bitty ears do freak me out, though.
I mean--after, like, the second rerun of the night's Bill O'Reilly interview--what's the problem? I was always more of a Far Side fan than a Doonesbury fan. I still love Arianna Huffington. But she's never been very soothing.
I like his old mom, too.

Thank the stars above that someone started a thread for this positively surreal junk-"news"-a-thon. It is the show for insomniacs and those of us who enjoy very late evenings.
Regarding this show:
1. Every third show or so features a porn star as a guest.
2. Is anyone else as disturbed as I am by "Fluffy McNutter" and Gutfeld's unicorn head drawings? (I don't really even want to think about the implications) Gutfeld may very well need some meds.
3. Notice that *every* show places a random "hottie" at the edge of table, with her apparently vaseline-slathered legs out for all to admire.

I admit I enjoy watching this show and I am not sure why. I don't think Greg and Bill are that funny but I do enjoy Andrew and Greg's mother.
And Rachael Marsden? Canada's alleged equivalent of Ann Coulter? I'm sure she'll go far based on her looks (she is an attractive woman). Based on her history, I wonder if Bill O'Reilly is sniffing around?
Well she won't be doing anything on Fox News now. Has anyone noticed that since Rachel has gone they seem to be a little more ,how should I say, in the gutter. Every topic they bring up someone ( usually Greg) twists it into something dirty. I don't remember them being like that in the beginning.
3. Notice that *every* show places a random "hottie" at the edge of table, with her apparently vaseline-slathered legs out for all to admire.
If that random "hottie" is Julia Allison than let it be. :)

OK, where are the insomniacs? I seem to be one of the few poor souls up late at night, watching this bizarre little pop culture "news" show. It's on after the late repeat of the Colbert report...

I am able to watch this show in the afternoon. It'd about location, location, location. Hehehe
The show has its moments, but what I find really find funny about the show is their Senior Correspondent, emphasis on Senior, Gurfeld's mom..hahaha

Nice to see some traffic on this thread. This show is wildly inconsistent, sometimes it's absolutely dreadful, sometimes it's pretty frakin' hilarious. I like Gutfeld's bombastic irreverence, there's no one quite like him anywhere else on TV. It's also interesting seeing which guests do well in such a free-wheeling format. Rudi Bakhtiar and Julie Banderas both have impressed me with their quick wits and sly senses of humor; Laurie Dhue was awful the one time I saw her - almost no sense of humor at all. The show is better without that minor-league harpie Rachel Marsden, but it would've been fun to see her supposedly stormy dismissal - and forcible eviction - from the FNC building. This isn't a great show by any means, but it's a unique and interesting one.

I am with you Reinoe. I used to be able to sit through the whole show but now I can only get about halfway through and then I go to bed. Things I would change:
1. Fewer panelists - They go through to many in one show. They should stick with Greg, three panelists and Andrew doing halftime.
2. Get rid of Bill - He is not funny and adds nothing to the show.
3. Fewer topics - They go through so many that the panelists really don't have anytime to discuss the serious ones.

This show doesn't seem too popular here. What a surprise! : )
Seriously though, even if you hate Greg's politics, not that he is ever serious, you have to admire that he usually has at least one liberal guest on everyday. Not to mention all the porn stars and hot newsbabes.

You know I had searched for this thread a month or more ago, both with RedEye and "Red Eye" and it didn't come up. Lucky you guys bumped it and I happened to notice.
I love this little show. It started shaky but has been growing month after month as the writers get in a groove and they figure out which guests deserve heavy rotation and which don't. I get the feeling a lot of people have preconceptions (I'll stick with the euphamism) about this show that don't necessarily bear out. Though to be fair, after the abysmal
Half Hour Newshour I wouldn't think
Fox News + comedy could possibly work either.
However the show isn't about politics. It isn't even about news really. It's just a bunch of people sitting around, some letting their hair down from the regular job, others on to plug something, and making jokes. And if you like wordplay, a lot of them are pretty good!
As for as politics actually goes, Greg is Republican, no question. But Bill Shultz is Democrat, and Andy Levy is Libertarian. All 3 are on every episode, and they frequently have multiple guests from Huffington Post. But really, making any point from any side is subordinate to being funny, which they are. And with the news items like the ongoing coverage of "The War on Strippers," I think your head has to be in the wrong place to even be focusing on the politics of the situation.
I don't know what the 3am time means, aside from the fact that my odds of watching it live went from slim to none. I suspect it's because they wanted to be on at midnight in California, which isn't so bad. But I doubt it's necessarily a lack of faith, since they could always just pull it back from 7 nights a week. It's just that even for cable at 11pm, they were a little dirtier than the network was comfortable with.
Here's a recap posted on YouTube by a viewer (who recaps most of their eps), and you can tell that during the second half of the show there were several times where they had to stop the show after a joke and hear from the network censor.
But anyway, I laugh more just at guest intros on this show than I do at the entirety of just about any other comedy talk show. Frequent guest Alison Rosen is one of the

I think most interesting part of Red Eye is seeing the Fox News anchors who are conservative and professional by day turn into flirty sex kittens at night. At least they are intelligent flirty sex kittens.
Overall I like the show, it has good energy and successfully mimics what it is like to sit around with friends and talk news and politics late night.

Thank you to EagerContrarian for helping me find this show. I thought there'd be more posts, but oh well. I am truly surprised that the serious (allegedly) Fox news folks drop their guards so much at night and act so nutty. Paging Walter Cronkite?

I missed Friday's show with Lauren Sivan, who is one of the funny anchors. What did they air on the weekend? The two episodes with a talking GLOBE. And they had the Times on too. I think Greg has to stop alienating the Fox talent, it's really hurting the guest list.

Scootman I have wondered the same. The show has a very Gen X sense of humor and some truly brain-twisting "wth" moments that are worth checking out, even at 3-4am.
I agree about the talking newspaper however. Let's move on with that one. Greg has definitely improved over time as well -- he is much more dynamic and "on" that he used to be. The nightly hottie slathered with body oil, perched with short skirt at the edge of the table, remains a (literal) focal point.

I'm as liberal as they come and I like the show. I'm glad that they moved it up from the 3am timeslot. Is the Bill character really gay; they seem to make a joke about it in every episode.

Thanks to an interview with Gutfeld in reason, I have become addicted to this show. I'm probably a twop minority since I'm sort of a right of center Libertarian kind of guy.
Red Eye is like the Howard Stern Show (on the radio) back when Stern was still funny and worth listening to (I don't have Sirius in my car, so I haven't listened to him in years.)
I tape the show every night and watch it the next day.
I kind of hope it stays where it is and keeps the sort of cult following it has now.
I haven't enjoyed a talk show like this since I was in high school in the 80's and was a huge Letterman fan (haven't watched Letterman or any other late night show in years.)
If you don't agree with me, you're probably a racist. And a Joo.

I really enjoy this weird little show. Love S.E. Cupp and I think she deserves her own show, whether it is on Fox or The Playboy Channel makes no difference to me.
For a show that is on the conservative Fox Network, Red Eye is surprisingly edgy. Not every gag is a home run but I think Red Eye's batting average is pretty good, and when it's two out in the bottom of the ninth... okay, maybe I'm stretching this baseball metaphor a bit too far.
As one who doesn't fall solidly into either Fox's or MSNBC's demographics I appreciate that this show is about 80% comedy and only 20% politics. Those afraid of Red Eye being The Glenn Beck Show only with a talking newspaper need not fear.

The show has a right (Greg), left (Bill) and center (Andy) group of people at the core, so even when Greg goes political, Bill is there to mock him. Then Andy comes on and obliterates both of them.
