So, when I was searching for some information about Wildfire, I read a little about this new show that is going to start a week after it. It's called Lincoln Heights. It's going to be on the same night as Wildfire, but will be on at 7pm (before it)...from what I read, it looks like there is going to be another must-see romance on the show..the oldest daughter gets involved with a new boy in her neighborhood. They look like a cute couple...I can't wait to see some more footage from the show!

Count me in as looking forward to this show.
I don't like that is it on at 7 though--I'll have to write a note otherwise I'll forget about it. 9 must be a really competitive period if they think the show will be killed in that time slot.
I wonder how well it will do. For all their talk about wanting to be the new WB, ABCfam, it seems will only nourish a series if it a success right off the bat and if it isn't, the series gets chunked out with no wrap up even given. The WB at least gave their underdogs a chance to develop before tossing out the product.

Yeah, it's a somewhat atypical time for the show, but I think that they wanted to get a lot of viewers to watch, and with more competition coming in from the national networks at 8pm, it seems like it's a good idea. I actually caught an ad for it on the web...they seem to be pushing this a lot...good sign, I think...they wouldn't put money behind a show that doesn't have the chops!

I like this show. So far so good. I do think it might get kinda heavy handed and preachy. I hate that. The oldest daughter seems like she could use some improvement in her acting skills. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Is anyone else wishing Donnell had become a regular character? He is so intriguing and really added another voice to the story.
I was fortunate enough to find my lone post from a week or two ago ... I googled my name and the topic title <yes, I have a lot of time on my hands>... anyway the content of my original post is below:
Yes, yes, yes!
I was hoping that Donnell was going to be the "voice of the streets" in this show... I was so disappointed that he was killed off. He reminded me of some of the young people with whom I've had the opportunity to work --- you know the really bright types who are defying stereotypes, but don't always feel there is any way to change their circumstances.
Regarding Lincoln Heights generally, weirdly enough this show had an innocuous 7th Heaven vibe, not corny, but it was sweetish... you know though the world outside is tough, the world inside their home/family was safe, loving and simple --- of course I mean the 7th Heaven of yesteryear...
I do look forward to next week's Lincoln Heights episode, it is refreshing to see folks of African descent portrayed as more than just the week-to-week jokemakers.

I missed Donnell this week. I hope they bring another character in to represent another perspective the way he did.
I like that this week's ep showed how complicated a shooting really is. That stuff we see on the news? It's not as cut and dry as we think. I like that Cassie's character was given more depth through her art. I like Charles...he's not a total bad boy, but he isn't corny either. I like how he tried to stand up for Cassie.
But seriously...is the mother going to want to move every damn week? Because that's gonna get old.

Given the crime situation in Lincoln Heights, I'm sure we're going to see more characters like him.
The shooting was complicated from a investigation standpoint...I like that there's some real cop drama on this show.
I need to make sure I get home tonight by 7 to watch it, because I dont think I have the DVR set to record it.

Yes,
c3k I was actually surprised at myself for appreciating the "cop drama" on the show, since I am not a big fan of the genre... I think this adds another dimension to the show by layering the characters and the story. This episode was really good the cop stuff managed to meld well with the teen angst. I felt for the father though because he really wanted to spill about why he didn't want Cassie at that party, but he realized his professional responsibility.
But seriously...is the mother going to want to move every damn week? Because that's gonna get old.
I think we actually got a mother-wants-the heck-out-of-dodge episode this week... [b]Girl Scout [/] I, too, would find that totally annoying.
I like the way the show is developing; the love between the parents is evident... the actors have good chemistry. Among the children, I think they are holding up their end.
I just have one wish, and it's shallow - sorry, but that the guy playing Charles switch eyebrow groomers, because, his eyebrows just don't look good. I think they looked fuller (and better) in the first episode - just a pet peeve.

I'm right there with you,
Mia Nina. She was killing me with that "Charles needs to step up" business. Um, do you like Charles? Maybe you could tell him and put you both out of your misery. She took one look at Menudo and was like, Charles wha? Nice way to treat your ONLY FRIEND.
Anyway, I adore the father and mother on this show. I love how both the father and mother talk to their kids. Even after the dad grounded Cassie, he told her he loved her and it was genuine, if unrealistic. Because if I had gone to a party I wasn't supposed to go to and driven my drunk friend home without a license, not only would I have been grounded, I would have been banned from speaking and possibly eating, too.
Charles brought the adorable when he stuffed the notes in his mouth and told Cassie he liked her. What was that, the 8th time he's told her? I'm losing count. And he is a cute drunk. But was anyone else afraid for him when he was driving and talking on the cell phone at the same time? I expected all kinds of
Six Feet Under type shock car crash stuff. Just me? Okey dokey.

Was it just me though, or was Eddie almost too cautious of Cassie being around the Narc.
Also, I thought it was interesting that Eddie's partner was on 24 last night. I'd have to go back to be sure, but I think he was the guy Jack talked with on the rooftop before the helicopter crashed.

I was thinking Eddie was being obsessive because of the age factor rather than anything else... he seems to think it may... kind of... sort of... be okay for Cassie to date Charles, but I think the Narc would have been too "experienced" for Eddie's child in his estimation.
As for Cassie's personality, there seems to be a growing intolerance towards her stanky attitude on other boards.
ON another note, it is great to see that other folks are digging this show!

If you are talking about the guy in the plaid shirt, that wasn't Eddie's partner, but there was a 24/Lincoln Heights crossover since Scott Winters showed up as the cop/DEA guy running the undercover op.

Good, it isn't just me. I felt bad for Charles because if Val had been a real student, he probably would've been tossed aside by Cassie.
Val is still a problem, I think. Cassie drawing him with hearts and stuff, hm, Charles needs to move fast or get himself another girl without BADD (Boyfriend attention deficit disorder.)
I guess it would be PBADD here, though.
The mom continues to be my favorite character, YET, those darn previews totally put a stop to that.
The dad is cool as hell and he feels real. Even the physicality of his role as a cop is very organic when it could off the wall cheesy. His partner rocks! He looks and talks like a cop from some kick ass action movie starring Al Pacino.

I have to agree that Cassie was unlikeable this episode. I kinda wanted to smack her when she told her father he was ruining her life. (Oh yeah? Move out then!) And when she said to Charles, "Tell me again when it matters." The hell?
I thought the dad (can't remember his name) needed to take it down a notch about Cassie and the Val the Narc b/c he - dad - acted like Val was just supposed to know that Cassie was his daughther.
I'm not feeling Lizzie at all. She's like 13 going on 43 and that bugs.

While Val couldn't have known he was hitting on another cop's daughter, he had to have known that he, a 24-year-old man, was hitting on an under-aged girl. If he had to come on to girls to keep his cover, he should at least have been sniffing around seniors. Cassie only has a driver's permit, so we're to assume she's 15 or 16, a junior at most, right?

Lord help a little Canadian chile, bonobochick! No Gucci, indeed! Nice to see you here, too!
I thought that was Diego! Or as they called him on the GH threads, Log. He was not so much the Ent here, though. I definitely felt like his coming on to Cassie was genuine and Eddie picked up on that. I think Val was really upset when he had to tell her to stay away from him. I can see a Cassie/Val relationship in later seasons, assuming the show lasts that long, with Eddie upset because his daughter is dating a cop. A good one at that, who may possibly be a rival. Okay, why haven't they hired me to write for this show yet?
I think part of the Cassie=attitude problem is that the actress makes strange choices for the character. Whoever plays Charles seems really relaxed around her, but she doesn't around him. She scrunches up her face at inappropriate times. She gives bland delivery..."page 37. No 38." I totally didn't get why she was an asshat on the phone with Charles...as he pointed out, everybody already knows her Dad is a cop. And exactly how was Val stepping up more than Charles was? I guess Charles needs to get with the mix CD's.
Totally off topic, but does anyone else find the theme song to be one of the most godawful songs in TV history?

Girl Scout You are right. When I watched the Pilot I thought the two daughters were very poor actresses. Now, the middle one is getting better but Cassie still needs to be natural and not LOOK like she's acting. She's always posing and making faces. Subtlety is not her middle name. Weird because it's a pretty down show and everyone else feels, like you said, "relaxed" and natural.

Is Vera the name of Cassie's sassy classmate? If so, gosh I can't stand that girl. She's trying way too hard to be cute and it's not working. Then again there are people like that in real life so if she's going for annoying, then she's succeeded.

Vera is Jen's sister.
And word on her being annoying. She was way too blase about her sister being kidnapped by that psycho. And asking her to drop the charges? Really, Vera?
Does the show have some sort of quota for the amount of times Cassie must say "You're ruining my life"? Cuz I'm getting tired of it. Yes, I understand teenaged angst and all that, but the writers need something new for this girl.

I liked this episode as well. While I agree with everyone's assessment about Vera in this episode, I must say that I know people who are like that... well I should actually just say I know women who are like that. However, they did not give Vera any other characteristics... At the top of the show, I thought they were trying to paint her as "cool Aunt Vera", but that only lasted for the duration of the scene when she brought in the cookies.
I am hoping that maybe they will develop the Vera character a bit more rather than just making her the caricature of the desperate, lonely woman who wants marriage and a family to feel fulfilled. I thought she remarked way too much on how much her sister had in comparison to her, because she did not have a relationship or her own house at the time. She was a tad too 2d, or what have you, to be likelable.
I like though that the main characters have other relationships.
Shelwood
Jan 31, 2007 @ 12:09 am
The Vera storyline didn't make sense to me. If she's desperate to be in a relationship, why did she dump Stalker Guy? It would have worked if she was still with him and he was overly possessive, maybe abusive. I've known people so obsessed with wanting a relationship they'll stay with someone who's horrible. But once dumping happens, not one has been happy to be stalked. That makes it impossible to date anyone else, and the stalker has already been assessed and rejected, so, why be happy or flattered he's stalking you? Weird.

I also wished for more Cassie and Charles, even though it looks like things are going the way I'd hoped with the two of them hooking up.
Fun clip from last week's episode:
Cassie & Charles meeting ValAs much as Vera annoyed me, I wanted to like her for most of the episode and I even understood where Vera was coming from until she asked Jen to drop the charges at the end of the episode. After that I was completely apathetic to Vera's plight of being unable to find a good man being any type of excuse for her ludicrous behavior. I'd bet she'd be the type that if David (I think that was his name) had struck her, she'd have said he did it because he cared.

I finally saw the episode online.
As far as Vera's request to drop the charges, I think it came from her feeling guilty about stringing David along. Granted brotherman should've gotten the hint but nonetheless she did play a tiny part. But yeah all that guilt should've went out the window the moment David endangered her sister's life.
I'm continuing to love the show.

The Vera storyline didn't make sense to me.
Me either. She started off the show by taking the dude's cookies and grinding them in the disposal which made me think that she was quite pissed at the guy. Then she spent the whole rest of the episode as a total stalker-apologist. Jen (that's the mom's name, right?) was the only one with an appropriate reaction to the guy when she said, "What is your problem!?" I mean the guy stole Vera's key! To her house! And walked in on her while she was naked! Who does that? And an even better question, who wouldn't completely freak about that and call the cops!
Frankly I thought the whole storyline was poorly executed. But this is ABCFamily we're talking about (not the best track record with their original series -
Wildfire anyone?), but I will continue to give this show a pass because they do other things surprisingly well (such as family dynamics).
Edited because completing thoughts is a good thing.

Big word to those who didn't get the Vera storyline. There was nothing there to give me hints about her motivations or feelings or make me care even a little. They totally missed the mark on that one, because I could have cared less about her. It was weird the way she seemed to accept the guy's stalking her, but when she also became the cause for putting her sister and family in danger, it raised no alarm bells with her?? I would have been staying away from my loved ones so as to avoid bringing danger to them, but she didn't seem to care about that one little bit after the first time her followed her over, then the second time.....the third.....I was like, hello is anybody home up there?
