Alright, I thought now would be a good time to start a thread for this show here, with the uncertainty that it will even return, after everything thats happened with Rove's dearly departed wife - Belinda Emmett.
Like it or not, I still don't want to see this show off the air. Where else would America's famewhores go?

Well, it's clear that he's not going to be back
this year. Understandable really. I guess he's lucky with the timing, being end of year and all.
According to
this article, he almost cancelled last week's episode, and only made it back to Melbourne with 20 minutes to spare. Amazing, considering the waxing of the moustache and the whole U2 interview angle. I imagine the short term pain of a wax was nothing compared to what his wife had gone through.

I do think he'll come back next year, but it hasn't suprised me that he's cancelled for the rest of the year.

Such sad news. Poor Rove. I'm glad he isn't coming back on air this year but then don't know how he is going to do it next year.
Someone mentioned an interview with Andrew Denton - wish I had seen that.

I'm not surprised he's cancelled for the year. The effort he must have gone to put on a brave face up until now would have been huge, he deserves the time to mourn in private. There can't have been many episodes left this close to the end of the year anyway.
I've always found Rove frustrating. I can't stand the show but I actually find him quite funny, particularly when he's doing off the cuff stuff like talking to people in the street. I hope he finds somewhere else to channel his talents because the fawning celebrity interviews and tired old jokes aren't doing him justice.

Yeah, the article
Andrew's Mommy linked to said there were only three eps left for the year anyway.

Agreed. I've grown tired of the show and really only have it on as background noise these days, but I've always loved his "Roving with Rove" bits where he'd hit the streets.

Me too. I wonder if they'll re-air it?
I remember not too long ago seeing the cover of one of the trashy women's mags with a photo of the two of them and a headline about how they wanted to have kids one day. Whatever you think of Rove, you've gotta agree that that guy would be the coolest dad! Now you've gotta wonder if it'll ever happen, because he and Belinda seemed like that fairytale, once in a lifetime kinda deal, and I can't really imagine him being with anyone else.
It's so sad that this happened right before Christmas. It's gonna be horrible for Rove and their family this year.

I thought the same thing.
I have to admit though, seeing New Idea proclaming Belinda as "Australia's Sweetheart" has really annoyed me. For crying out loud, she was a soapie star! She was NEVER that famous for being on the show. Its tragic she's died, but don't make her out to be bigger than what she was. That's doing her more of a disfavour.

What you say is true, and I never watched the shows she was on H& A & All Sts ( did see her & like her in the Nugget tho), but I think you are missing something else going one here. She was on a very big show when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the incredible age of 22, so close to her audience who followed her, so horribly, wrongly, young. And then.........you know the rest of the story, you know that her story involves so much pain & so much love, she did become something more than just those Tv shows.

I do agree with that. While everyone followed her and wanted to make sure she was OK, I never would have heard her described as Australia's Sweetheart.
Did anyone else see footage of the funeral? Poor Rove just looked broken. I hope he's got strong support around him.

It was her dignity and class through such a long, hard battle with a cruel disease that gave her the status of Australia's sweetheart. I think it was a well-earned title.

Well, he's back on April Fools Day at 8:30pm. A Sunday night. Retooled. Yes, the show format, not the sidekick.
Not liking the long term prospects. Sure the demographic that watch Rove are different (allegedly) to those that watch Grey's Anatomy and any version of CSI, but ChTeen have become very cut throat with shows underperforming.
First week audiences will be high, because as well as regular viewers (of which he had Yasmin's Getting Married type numbers) there'll be the ghouls who want to see how he goes after the death of Belinda.
A brave move I guess. Before the tragic event of last year, I would have called Rove Live dead in the water. Is he there on bankability or pity? Will the first week audience stay around?

I'm glad that my brother reminded me that Rove was back tonight, because I had completely forgotten, and I watch alot of Channel Teen.

Hey has anyone else heard that Silverchair will be on tonight's show? I heard that about a week and a half ago but have seen it no where else.
ETA: Nevermind just saw an ad that said they were.
I agree with the above poster who said he will do well tonight but after that his ratings will drop- He's up against new episodes of CSI and Greys Anatomy most weeks.

It seemed to be very fast-paced compared to the old show. And yet it still went over-time (the pussycat dolls show was hilarious).

While all of that's true, I don't see that making her Australia's Sweetheart. So many people go through the same thing, and do it with the same ammount of class. Yet because she's famous this means she should be elevated above all the other people? I'm not putting her down at all, as I thought it was tragic when she died and I feel for Rove as its the worst thing possible, but realisticlly she wasn't Australia's Sweetheart. Delta or Kylie or even Sophie Delizeo could possible claim that title (and Sophie only because she's so young)

So do i. He's on my 'somewhat innapropriate' list of people i find attractive, along with the fat one from Penn & Teller. The way he yells and gets really into it.......but i digress.
Im looking forward to seeing Flea and Anthony (mmmmmm :D) tonight!!

Yeah, i'm only watching tonight for Flea and Anthony. Although the Thorpe quip made me chuckle. How cheeky.

i loved the new set!
The new set, the graphics and the lighting on the show this year are fantastic. To my eye, it's the best looking talk show on TV at the moment.

Bit puzzled by the title. From the many bits of Rove I've seen over the years (from online - tons of him online -- and from his brief and never repeated tenure on America's ABC network, on a one-shot show called "The List") he never seemed to be "doing" a Letterman impression. Well, other than the fact that that show was called "The List" and Letterman is famous for having "Top Ten Lists". Otherwise? I don't see it.
Jay Leno seems to like him though. Maybe he wants to go work for him. (Ick.)
