I'm thrilled to announce that TARcon X (Beyond Thunderdome) will again be held from on 12/10 at
Stitch, beautiful, spacious bar/lounge in the Garment District. Stitch is located at 247 W 37th St (@ 8th Ave).
Charges are as follows:
$75 - 3 hour plan - Open (Top Shelf!) Bar 6:00PM to 9:00PM and
a la carte menu. Check in will start at 5:45 PM
Maximum: 75 people - Sold Out
$50 - 2 hour plan - Open (Top Shelf!) Bar 7:00PM to 9:00PM and
a la carte menu. Check in will start at 6:30 PM, Entrance at 7:00 PM. - Link is unavailable until 11/22. See note below.
Maximum: 225 people
"Top Shelf" is everything but shots including their "designer cocktails" mmmm.
Checking In: Bring your Paypal receipt (email or printout from Paypal) for admission. Poptart will not hesitate to throw you to the back of the line for not bringing your Paypal receipt.
Again, we're requiring shipping addresses with your Paypal payment. But remember,
No ticket of any kind will be issued. None will be mailed to you and none will be handed out to you. Your paypal receipt is your "ticket."Deadlines for all are 12/3, but please pay early. We have to give a pretty big deposit ASAP.
Gratuity for your prepaid drinks is included; please tip appropriately after 9:00 PM and for any a la carte food or drinks. The bar will stay open (l-a-t-e) on a cash basis. They said as long as we're drinking, they'll stay open. The kitchen will close around midnight.
There will be a bag/coat check.
There will be no goodie bags.
If you plan to drink to the point of puking, don't forget to bring someone to get you home safely and it's BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket).
The TARcon and bar staff and don't want to have to baby-sit you. Furthermore, if you plan to drink to the point of berating people, don't be surprised when you get thrown out. If you get thrown out, please leave (go home/elsewhere). Please don't stick around and harass people. If you do get asked to leave, you will not be allowed back to another TARcon. This is a private event and we can exclude you if necessary. Please don't make me do it. Bottom line? Bring a sober buddy if you plan on being out of control.
Your entrance does not guarantee you a seat, a picture or anything else other than open bar and race viewing during the paid time. Of course, you'll have a better chance at a seat if you are on the three hour plan.
There are no refunds. If you can't go, try to sell your spot to someone else.
Comps: Because of budget, comps can only be admitted after 9. If any comp would like to come before 9, they will have to pay the cover charge (email me for more specific details). If you are a comp or know a comp and will be coming after 9, please email me directly. I need the names for the count.
Wheelchairs: The venue is accessible at the main bar area.
Donations for overhead are welcome.
Information about DimSumCon, our traditional post-TARcon brunch is found
here.
Some more good news. The
real Sephoracon (not that lame one we had last time) is back (12/11 at 8:00AM). This time we're going to the
Sephora at Union Square who are
thrilled to have us and are booking all sorts of treatments and vendors.
The store features
SkinPhysical a special diagnostic that "designed to give your skin a comprehensive checkup, analyzing its elasticity, hydration levels, visible pores, fine lines, visible spots, UV damage, plus the brightness of your smile". Only 12 stores in the country have this program and they're super-excited to host us, so it's a good thing. They'll provide breakfast and treatments and you get a $25 gift card (to be used in the store during the event) and a good goodie bag. You totally want to go this time, I promise.

Many thanks to all those who put these events on! Even though I've never been to a TARcon, I love to read all the posts and enjoy all the pictures.
I won't be able to attend this one either as it's my daughter's 16th birthday that day. I'm sure she would not understand if I skipped that in order to go to TARcon!
Have fun everyone! Take lots of pictures and share lots of stories.

I can't believe this, but I actually have to make travel plans and take a day off from work to attend this year! God knows that's not going to stop me, because if there's one thing I won't skip, it's getting fabulously drunk with Bart Ender, auroralye, designed and Plus 1, and everyone else!

I knew this was coming, but it still just sucks so bad. I finally got myself moved within spitting distance of TARcon and I'll be in Florida that weekend. TiVo will get the race finale for me. Any chance one of you can TiVo TARcon for me?

Gee, thanks.

I just have one question. How do you purchase more than 1 ticket. Do i have to pay three different times?
On another note, If you need me I can make the name tags again and use a different design then the one I used last year.
EDIT: I am in! missdona, if there is anything particular you want on this years nametags, please send me an email.
missdona
Nov 3, 2006 @ 7:59 pm
Sorry about that. I fixed the link so you can buy more than one.
Yeah, if you want to do the nametags, you're more than welcome.

Misdona,
The wife and I just registered. Yay!
Actually, I need to ask a question about that - she paid using a pay pal account under her maiden name. I wanna make sure we're listed under current info, my name and hers. How do I resolve that?
missdona
Nov 3, 2006 @ 10:01 pm
It's already resovled. That is, it's not getting resolved.
You will check in under the name on your paypal account and your nametags
will say whatever you want.
And my name? Two s's and one n and a long o. Rhymes with Mona.

Yay! I'm so excited. I just got my ticket. This is my first TARcon but I've been a loyal fan since TAR3. I've always read the TARcon threads and looked at pictures with such envy. I can't wait to attend.
Now, question [/dwight], should I wear my "God is in the Tub" or "Detour" shirt?

Nov 3, 2006 @ 11:47 pm
Oh, man, what to do.
On the one hand, the last Tarcon at Stitch was absolutely fabulous. On the other hand, my
don't forget to bring someone to get you home safely
hopefully recently got married and is in Japan.
On the one hand, I need to meet
Djeber again, and this time remember my conversation with him. On the other hand...December? In New York? Isn't it kind of cold then? Because my Houston ass freezes when it gets below 60 degrees.
It's the best season I've seen in ages, with many, many teams I'd love to root for, much less actually meet. But, dang, December is hard to pull off.
Eh, I bought my 3 hour 'Paypal receipt'. Now I just have to figure out how to take off a Monday in December, find a flight and hotel, and justify the expense. If it doesn't work out, I'll post and let some lucky person know that I have a free Paypal receipt for them. I feel the need to contribute to TarCon regardless. And
MissDona, I must say that was the best first post about TarCon yet. You've covered all the bases.

Quick question...is there anywhere to park near Stitch? My SOP has me taking a late express bus back to Staten Island...but since this is a Sunday, the buses stop running early. So rather than freeze my butt off waiting for the ferry or begging another Islander to give me a lift, I figure I'd drive into the city and stay out late. By the way, I never drink, so no worries for getting home.
I'd also be up for any get-togethers prior to the Con. I think the big tree would be up in Rockefeller Center by Con time, in case any of you tourists want to gawk. I don't skate, but you can take a few laps on the rink.

I vote for Detour since people have worn God is in the Tub to past Cons.

Argh, this is the most enjoyable season in a long while, I'd love to come... and I just can't justify the time. I'm in the midst of a big project for a February performance (in NYC! I'll divulge its nature in the Meet Market when I'm allowed to), and that date is right when my deadline will be.
Have fun, everybody! And give Oswald a kiss for me if he shows up.

I'm in! Incidentally, the last few TARCONs, it has taken me longer and longer to realize that it's been scheduled. When I first started going, I'd check General Gabbery compulsively, and I'd know within an hour. Now, I only seem to find out after a couple of days. (Could be because I no longer visit the show topic beyond the night the show airs.)
And I should be able to do DimSumCon, too. I have a class Monday night, but it's late, unlike the last time I had to skip DSC because I had a fairly early class.

The wife and I will be there again, and I expect to be wielding the camera once more.
Thanks as always for setting this up, missdona. One tiny request: can you make sure they put the closed captioning on for all three TVs this time, rather than just the two on the sides? I only realized halfway through the finale at TARcon9 that not everyone was oblivious to what was being said on the show...

I always ask for closed captioning, sometimes they just can't figure it out.

This TARcon was entirely Stitch-dependent. We lucked out because they are normally closed on Sundays and are willing to work with us. If I had to go any further than Stitch, it wouldn't have happened.
Planning a 'con in the holiday season is nothing short of a nightmare, the staff at Stitch are very appreciative of the business we bring them. It's a wonderfully symbiotic relationship.

I'll add my thanks along with everyone elses for making this happen.
And I'm in, bringing a friend who doesn't watch TAR. Obviously it was meant to be, because I'll already be in NYC to see a show on Sunday afternoon. Monday I don't have to be at work until 7pm.
Underage MissStar understands why she can't come, but is sure that she'll attend TarCon 21 in December of 2010, right after her 21st birthday. To which I say, "from your lips..."

katesus7 is breaking my heart:
On the one hand, the last Tarcon at Stitch was absolutely fabulous. On the other hand, my "don't forget to bring someone to get you home safely" hopefully recently got married and is in Japan.
That's me! I did just get married and will be newly arrived in Japan the week before the finale. I am so sad that I'm missing this TARCon (and the next one and the next one...)!
katesus7 , I hope that you'll still go and be your social butterfly self! I also encourage everyone else who's on the fence about going to JUST GO. I met
katesus7 in the hotel lobby several TARCons ago and we bonded instantly. So, even if you don't know anyone, or are scared about not having anyone to talk to, go anyway. Drink, yell at the TVs, meet your fellow fanatics. They could be friends you just don't know you have yet. Even though I won't be there in body this time, I'll be there in spirit.
Thanks missdona and all the organizers for making this such a great party every season for TAR and for the crazy TWoPpers!

I'm in. I'm looking forward to seeing many of you again.
Thanks so much for the effort of putting this thing together. I was really sweating it there.
I hope the Air Traffic Controllers and Sarah come because I'd love to see them interact. ATC did one of thier wacky columns for Tarflies where they call her Pogo and then worry about what would happen if they meet her. Of course as other old hands would point out, it is the shared TAR experience and not the Racers (because there is never a gaurantee any will show) that is the real draw. See you guys there. Oh and remember IF any hated racers show, you can't do violence to them no matter how much they deserve it CoughPeterCough. If Jonathan is still allowed to draw breath after slobbering on poor Miss Alli then you have to suffer them all.

Thanks so much missdona!!
I'm all signed up for my second Tarcon. Missing last season sucked. I'm going to bring a couple of TARCON virgins with me too. I may even get a hotel room after hearing the stories from last year about Stitch's killer drinks. The drive to Long Island at 2:00 a.m. can be a bit tricky if you are drunk off your ass.

I think I'm going to try and come out to this this year since I'm just over the bridge in Brooklyn. I couldn't make it last time because of some class or some other stupid obligation that I can't remember.
This may be a dumb question, and I apologize if it is, but any idea if any of the teams will be attending?
