Mean Mr Mustard
Come with us now on a journey through time and space, to the world of the Mighty Boosh!
ThirtyHelens
It saddens me that no one's replied to this.

Then again, BBCA did schedule the show like crap and have yet to air the second series...

"Calmallamadowwwwn, calmallamaDEEPdown!..."
Mean Mr Mustard
Fantastic news! According to The Guardian, the Boosh boys are working on a third series . . .
pizzaface78
I just saw the Old Gregg episode yesterday and just about died.

"D'ya love me?"
oneloudbitch
YAY!!!!! :D I thought it was off the air for good! TIVO hasn't given me any new Boosh in FOREVER. :) Thanks for the heads up, MMM!
drowsybaker
Yay, a Boosh thread! They're bringing Bob Fossil back for the 3rd series, too. Shoehorn in Matt Berry and I'll be happy.

Did anyone see the Live DVD? The whole Peter Jackson/Bollo storyline killed me.
mellowyellow
I just found this show today and I completely love it. There's something so silly and off the wall and creepy yet very sweet about it. It's exactly the kind of thing I never expected would get made.

"You want to go to a club where people wee on each other?"

Is somebody airing the Boosh? It's not on BBC America's schedule (or did you splash out for the Region 2 DVD set? Which I highly recommend; it's got deleted scenes, commentaries, the unaired pilot, a decorative booklet...).
drowsybaker
The set is very neat. I got it for Christmas and haven't even gotten to all the extras yet. The behind the scenes/history type stuff is the best so far. And that pilot is such an oddity: The Boosh with a laugh track! Hah.

"You want to go to a club where people wee on each other?"

Yes sir, thank you sir.

I was sure I had posted to this thread before but it's vanished. I love this show, I got the set for Christmas and overdosed on it. At the moment I'm fighting my cold turkey with the knowledge that the Live DVD has been ordered and is flying to my house as we speak.

It took a while for me to warm up to series 2, I think it lost some of its innocence somehow. But that didnt last long. My favourite episode is The Legend of Old Gregg, just genius from start to finish. I also love the episode in series 1 where they go to monkey hell. It was the first episode I ever saw. I sat there for the half hour with my mouth open, totally charmed.

I might be shot for saying this but I think Rich Fulcher is the weak link in the cast. He just goes way OTT for me. Does anyone know when the 3rd series will be ready?

"I got a mangina!"

My favorite is Milky Joe. I think it's brilliant from beginning to end. I really love how there are many levels to the show. On one hand it's funny and on the other it's really quite creepy alot of the time. I've seen the Mighty boosh all over the net once I knew I wanted to look for it.

No way, he's so great! Everything he says just cracks me up. You'll like the Live DVD if you feel that way, though, because at one point Noel pretty much expresses that sentiment.

Does anyone know when the 3rd series will be ready?

They're writing the 3rd right now. I've heard "autumn 07" but that might change.

If you listen to the radio series on CD Bob Fossil comes into his own.

"We all want our mommies, but we can't have them. BECAUSE THEY'RE IN VIETNAM".
BrandyAlexander
I finally got to see the Live DVD, brilliant. I thought the first half was stronger but I still loved it all. At then end I may have whimpered "But where is Old...." only to have him show up.

The Behind the Scenes doc was also excellent.

My dog ate my Boosh boxed set. No lie.

Let's bump this thread. Favorite eps from each series? For me: Bollo (followed closely by Jungle and Tundra, in a battle royal for mod wolves and cheese heads versus dancing polar bears and the wind hating Howard.) for Series One, and Milky Joe (or Nanatoo, or Old Gregg, or Call of the Yeti . . .) for Series Two.
BrandyAlexander
Series One: Bollo or Tundra. Tundra is the perfect episode, and its the episode I've shown people to get them hooked on The Boosh. It just has everything: The wind hating Howard. The lonely polar bear. Gary Numan flying them to the tundra. I could go on. But 2 parts in particular always crack me up. The first is where they are shoveling a load of poo, Vince points up to a teeny little monkey in the tree saying he produced it all. The monkey goes "I only had a banana" in a little monkey voice. I dont know why, but that still cracks me up. The second bit I love is the end credits over the polar bear quietly singing the Gary Numan song. Love it. Is Tundra the one with 'TopShop'? I get some parts mixed up.

Bollo, is also fantastic, and I have it as joint top episode as it was the first one I ever saw. Plus it gave us Mr Susan who's theatrical 'There are over 17 mirrors in the mirror world' is priceless.

Series Two: Old Gregg and Milky Joe. Love them both. When I first saw them I would have put Old Gregg ahead. But with time I think Milky Joe might be a better episode.

The thing I love about both series is the ingenuity and creativity involved in each one. Compare it to any other comedy and there is nothing like it anywhere.

All at once, there's a flurry of Boosh news. Come closer! Not you, naan bread.

http://www.themightyboosh.co.uk/ reports that the first episode of the third series will probably be aired on BBC Three on Nov. 15 and have a preview webcast on the BBC Three site the week of Nov. 4.

Also, the Guardian's magazine has done a long, detailed profile of the boys, including quotes from their benefactor Steve Coogan.

"The Mighty Boosh is a party you are invited to where Julian and Noel choose the music and dress code, and you end up having a better time than you thought possible. It's proof you can be sexy and funny. I try to soak up as much reflected glory as possible."

Also, in keeping with its tradition of half-assedly throwing reruns of series one onto the schedule willy-nilly, BBC America ran "Tundra" this evening. Dixon Bainbridge is still awesome. Look at his moustache! It's like a silver horseshoe!
BrandyAlexander
So now that we are a couple of episodes into Series 3 what are everyones thoughts? I was disappointed with episode 1, probably because the long wait meant lots of anticipation. I felt it relied on too many repeated characters, both the hitcher and the Shaman council went through the same motions as before. Plus the hitcher looked quite different.

Episode 2, I felt was better. Although re-use of the Spirit of Jazz as a different character was a bit lazy.

Hopefully it will retain that magical quality that series 1 gave us. And avoid the rubbishness of most of series 2.
MadBomber80
Never having seen the first two series, Eels was my first episode ever. And, although I'll take your word on it reusing characters, I thought it was better than Journey to the Centre of the Punk.

The Dancing Hat scene was so creepily ethereal, and the drunken Shaman Council was just enough over the top that they didn't feel over the top.

Although I do feel the urge to figure out ways to include "Not you, Extreme Sports Calender!" into my daily conversations.
Ransom
Missed the first ep of the new series, caught the second. Good stuff, maybe one of the best episodes they've ever done. Vince's weird inner-life was very funny, especially his single brain cell.

Also, I realise this makes me a horrible person, but I really laughed over seeing an old blind man getting hit in the face repeatedly by spanners.
Trikywu
I watch The Mighty Boosh on YouTube since it's not easy to find the DVD here in the States. I went on Amazon and the only version they have is on PAL, which I can try on my computer, but I worry about changing the region for fear it won't revert back to NTSC. So, YouTube it is.

My introduction to Boosh was "Old Greg". I'm still gagging with laughter over Greg's Man-gina. Holy crap that's funny.
BrandyAlexander
So we are a few more in now. I think it has definitely picked up. I loved episode 3. All the crimping cracked me up, actually all the songs cracked me up. I'm still humming "Its whats inside that counts" and expecting Gary Numan to pop out of a cupboard.

The Crack Fox was simply terrifying. Such a great episode, it was good to see Barrett be the one to dress up for a change and the Shaman council didnt annoy me as much this time. Although I do think they are over relying on them. I still laugh at all the Kirk jokes though.
Suzako
I just watched two episodes from Season 1 that a friend had brought over from the UK. I wish they would show this on BBC-A!! I had seen a few season two episodes when I in Scotland two years ago and was hooked.

Its one of those shows you just want to watch over and over.

My favorite was the wind telling Howard that he hates him in Tundra. Poor Howard.
ashsplash
I'm in the US and just found this show before the holidays. I have tried to find every episode and have also watched some of the other actors shows due to this one. I wish more people over here were aware of it and that they would release region 1 DVD's. I may have to take my remaining Christmas money and get a region free DVD player and the region 2 DVDs.
Kai
Apparently there's a way that you can make your DVD player region free. A friend of my used the trick to watch her Boosh DVD set and it's worked out fine.

I wish they sold the DVDs in the states for a reasonable price, I love the show and I want to show it to everyone I know, but I can't afford to pay 50 bucks for it. :/

As much as I enjoy all the magical creatures they encounter and adventures they go on, I think Noel and Howard's simple conversations where they're hanging out taking the piss out of each other (or doing crimps) are my favorite part of the show. Their chemistry is so off the charts fantastic, and they're such an unlikely pair that even the most mundane conversation between them is hilarious and engaging. I do love me some Old Gregg, though.

Forget BBC-A. I wish that channel would give up the rights and Cartoon Network would pick it up. This show is PERFECT for Adult Swim. That channel is already airing Garth Merenghi's Dark Place which has many crossover actors. Put it on Adult Swim then sit back and watch as show becomes a cult hit. The next thing you know The Mighty Boosh become the next Hot Topic darlings. And I can buy a pin set.

Favorite Boosh bits; The Plan Pony, "Future Sailors", Everyone dancing to "Cars" while driving around, The ninja driver, Vince dancing with The Polar bear, The coconut cops car chase, "Top Shop!" "The violent quiche" curtain chat, "Stabbity-do-wahhh!" "Dennis, you haven't even taken the drugs yet!" The Crack Fox, himself, "Peacock Dreams," anything with The Hitcher and whenever Bob Fossil dances. "And that's why I can't go for that" makes me crack up every time and I am going to find a way to use that in real life.
eirefaerie
I thought the highlight of the third series was "Party," and I wish they'd ended the season on that ep (although I got a huge laugh out of "Who the FUCK is John Simm?" {disembodied head} "John Simmmmmm."). But to me, "Party" had everything a good Boosh ep requires: dance parties, nonsensical fabulousness, jealousy, Chris deBourgh and Howard and Vince's beautiful gay love. Plus, Saboo and Harrison as guest DJs!

Harrison: "Oh, I've got it, Saboo! A concept is formulating! Fleetwood Mac's 'Tusk,' in its entirety!"
Saboo: "Ohh!"
H: "Watch the room crumble at the aura of the H-man."
S: "Are you insane? There's, at most, one track I could get away with, off, maybe, 'Rumours.'"
H: "Oh, come off it! 'Tusk,' in its entirety, with the pauses, as Lindsay Buckingham intended it to be heard."
S: "Why don't you just give me a .44, I can spray my brains on the decks."
H: "Aw, what is your beef with the 'Mac?"
S: "The same beef every right-thinking man has. They are bullshit munchers."

And then, of course, Howard being a Massive Gayist.

ETA: How could I forget Noel being strangely attractive with a buzzcut? My whole worldview has shifted.
Uranium
Is it too early to wonder if there will be a fourth series?

I've just gotten hooked on this show thanks to the magic of the internet, and I'm hungry for more. (Which reminds me of my very favorite bit -- the flashback in "Hitcher" to Vince being raised by Bryan Ferry, and the conversation Vince and Howard have afterwards. "That's my style. I'm a juicy dangler." Ah, good times.)
editorgrrl
Noel Fielding and Richard Ayoade (Saboo) are both on The IT Crowd Tuesday nights on IFC. You can watch clips at http://www.ifc.com/on-ifc/itcrowd. Episode 4 introduces Noel as Richmond the goth.
SnippyScholar
Hmmmm. I take it this has nothing to do with Frisky Dingo?
mellowyellow
Perhaps this should be moved to Cartoons since Adult Swim is going to start airing it?
chelsea girl
This is my favourite show ever!
missbianca
Oh, I didn't know Mighty Boosh had it's own catagory here. We're talking about it on the 'Adult Swim' board.
They started playing the third season first and I was all 'What the _ _ _ _? This is stupid!' But now they're playing the first season...and it's good! I actually laughed and it's MUCH better!

I don't know why they're airing it out of order...maybe they know how lame the third season was and they got that out of the way first, cause this season that's showing now is funny!
Uranium
Has anyone been watching this on Adult Swim? They've been editing it! I watched a few minutes of the "Call of the Yeti" last night, and I noticed that some of Vince's outfits were cut out when he models them for Bollo at the beginning. That's intolerable!
braggtastic
I've only seen one episode - stag night for the gang, so Julian & the other guy are left behind to watch the shop (don't even know the names yet).

This is one trippy show. It reminds me a lot of The Young Ones in tone & freakishness. I know Noel Fielding from IT Crowd & talk shows, so it was a kick seeing what made him famous. And there was a cameo by Moss on the flying carpet!

I'll be checking CN's schedule to find more episodes.
braggtastic
I've seen a bunch of the shows now, but I don't know if they're showing them in order. If so, I think I missed one. All of a sudden they're working in a zoo & Noel has blond streaks in his hair. Did I miss an episode when they explain what happened to the shop, or did a new season begin with them at a zoo like nothing had changed?
roosterboy
In the first season, Howard and Vince worked in a zoo.
In S2, they lived in an apartment with Naboo and Bollo, with no mention of why they weren't at the zoo anymore.
In S3, they were working at Naboo's store.
braggtastic
Oh thanks. I guess I'd been seeing the last season first & now they've spun back to the beginning.
