I liked it. I actually found myself laughing out loud at some parts.
The super hero perody was kind of funny...but I love the little girl trying to win over the father for Shin's hand.

Just a note, this was episode 3. They'll start airing in order on Monday, in it's regular weeknight slot. Well, as regular as "on the air for two weeks before the slot returns to Inuyasha repeats" is.

I thought I wouldn't like it, but it turned out to be very very funny.
Were some of the English interjections more topical than the original Japanese? The bit about internal spying, for instance, seemed very on point. In general it seemed to have references that would make more sense for the U.S. market.
I know there are some shows that ad-lib or only loosely approach the original script; is this one of them?

I think after the failure of the boring and incomprehensible Super Milk Chan, they decided to go heavy on the americanization. It's working so far...

Surprisingly, I found myself laughing out loud as well. I think my favorite was the whole "gotta get 10 green pepper sausage wrappers in order to get the Action Bastard, Bastard Belt".
I rather have dog scrotum.
Thank you, Action Bastard!
It tastes like crotch.
It's like old South Park humor cut up into little stories. I like this much better than Super Milk Chan.

Apples and oranges, my fellow otaku. SMC was supposed to be absurd, what with a young heroine who's too lazy to fight crime most of the time, a caterpillar that broke in for monologues, the quarreling ant couple living under the house...it was supposed to be weird. Shin Chan? It's supposed to be insane, and that comes through even with the heavy-handed dubbing. Of course, even if liberties were taken with the script, I can't get it out of my head (e.g., "Whooooores!").

Seeing episode 3 in proper order helps make sense of why Shin's father kept talking about being beaten by his wife whenever Ench-Man showed up.
I would bet the English version bears almost no resemblance to the orginal dialogue.
No doubt, but at least it's tolerable to sit through. And it is fun to hear things like Major Armstrong's voice wailing "Lessssbians!"

Oh god. The way they treated the bunny punching like a terrible drug addiction had me rolling on the floor laughing. This show is just too funny! Also the commentary of the poor bunny wishing for death choked me up too.

O lord. Shin Chan is the funniest shit I've seen in quite some time. I do hope more people get on board for this one. I love the direction they took punching up the script. It fits the American mentality of an off-the-wall show better that the origional would have by itself, I'm sure.

I don't care if the dialogue has any relation to the original or not - this incarnation is damn funny. As soon as I saw it mentioned upthread that Evan Dorkan was helping to punch up the scripts, I knew I'd like it.

When I lived in Hawaii, I used to watch a subtitled Shin Chan. It was okay, but strangely compelling in an "Everybody Loves Hypno Toad" kind of way.
Dorkin & Dyer's punch-up dialogue gives the show exactly what it needs to be pitch perfect.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, I love this show! Everytime I allow the animation to lull me into thinking it is just about schoolkids, along comes some obscene line to make me laugh. "It's like Brokeback, only with ugly boys," or "A kiss is the best thing a girl can blow." Yikes. The punch-up writers are doing a great job.
It was the bunny-punching episode really sold me on this show, though.
Which character is Armstrong's VA (Christopher Sabat) voicing? For the life of me, I just can't hear it.
In the interest of full disclosure, I also loved Super Milk Chan. I just wish I understood more of it.

It was creepy, yet very funny. You'd never see this on Billy and Mandy.
Supposedly Funimation made 8 episodes, but we're getting six right now. Hopefully, we'll get even more. It's pretty surprising this show has been on Japanese TV almost as long as The Simpsons.

He plays Ai's bodyguard. Also, he used the Armstrong voice for the annoucer in the Enchman sequences. "Lesbians! Schitzophrenia! Tomatoes are fruits!"

Shin Chan.. in English? Wow. I have to download the episodes!
I come from Malaysia, and Shin Chan is like the funniest shit around here. Little kids (although Shin Chan is not such a good example for them) and teens like myself love it. The comic and TV series are hilarious! They were dubbed in the Malay language though, it was so lame, yet still funny. I used to have a stack of them before my mom threw them away (saying something like, "useless crap!").. Hee.

I don't think it's off for good, is it? They only had a few episodes for that test run, I thought. From the ratings results I saw, I thought it did pretty well. I'd find it hard to believe they would pass on more episodes of this show. Everyone seemed to like it.

Well, all I remember is vague from bumps and/or hearsay, but I'm pretty sure I saw that it was considered relatively successful. I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't be, since it's one of the only shows that both anime and comedy fans seem to both enjoy equally.

It wasn't much of a panel...just some marketing lady, the voice of Shin (nice lady), and some poor bastard dressed as Shin with an oversized head. There is news I have to share:
Shin Chan has been picked up by Adult Swim, and episodes will air in April; the show has gotten a merch license from Balls Out, which handles
South Park; and a DVD will come out this September with 14 epiosdes. The material will be in English, since the Japanese release isn't that good in terms of quality. Also,
