Alright, if shoes can have they're own thread, so long as we stay on topic, video game commercials should have their own as well.

I have to say, per capita, video game commercials are some of the best commercials out there. I mean how wonderful was Playstation's (Sony's) Mountain commercial a couple of years ago. I also think (while slightly pretentious), the Kingdom Heart II and the Chain of Memories commercials were awesome, and Hikaru Utada's Passion/Sanctuary and Hikari/Simple and Clean were awesome songs.

The X-Box "Jump in" series was great too. Hey, I don't care how serious that water ballon commercial was, that looked damn fun and funny.

They can also bring the funny as well, but I am drawing a blank right now. Also, I love those Game Tap commercials, particularly the Stayin' Alive commercial 'cuz that could honestly be a montage of my younger years as a gamer.

Huh. I thought it was a huge injustice that ad won any award at all, much less the Grand Prix at Cannes. (Didn't some copycat commercial also make the short list at Cannes the next year?)

Brain Training (UK) It's an OK ad on its own; the big publicity about it is that it (inadvertently) mirrored life:

from the Guardian:
The publicity surrounding Chris Tarrant's marriage breakdown has led to a surge in sales for Nintendo's DS Lite console, for which the television presenter is advertising spots that include him forgetting his wedding anniversary.

(Bump). Eh, I really liked that commercial. Of course, I am biased because the Sony of yesteryear had commercials that really stood out in a good way. Not so much anymore.

I am curious, does anyone know where I could find the (North?) American version of the Final Fantasy X commercial? I looked for it on YT, but couldn't find anything besides the Japanese one. I am curious about it because I remember seeing the X-2 commercial, but never the one for the original. Its bugging me.

Also:

Dear Nintendo, please stop with the two guys drivin' around asking, "we would like to play," because it drives me crazy. In a good way. :P

On that note, I'll end with... What happened to all the video game commercials? There used to be one on all the time, now all I ever see are Wii commercials, which aside from the two guys drivin' around, do not appeal to me in anyway (UPO).

I thought that there were several FFX commercials. I know that one was mostly blitzball.

The closer it gets to the holidays, the more ads you'll see. Also, we are still in the summer game wasteland. C'mon Autumn. I do love those Wii guys.

If there were several FFX commercials, I don't remember 'em. I am drawing a total blank on that (or those) commercial(s).

I guess you're right about the summer wasteland, because Mario Party 8 (I guess I missed the other six!) was number one a couple of weeks ago.

I guess Sony and Microsoft haven't been able to get it together. I haven't seen an exclusive Sony commercial since like May or June (which is shameful because there should be at least one between the console and handheld) and I was "lucky" to see an exclusive Microsoft X-Box 360 commercial at the movies today.

I think that there was at least two. Maybe three, with the third being a short clip type of thing? I'm sort of blanking, but one featured the more typical fighting/aeon summon, as well as the the beginning of the first blitzball cutscene. The other was more romantic and featured the underwater scene.

Sony needs to get their act together. As much as I love the FF games, I can't (and won't!) pay $600 for just the system. I'm going to get a Wii instead. What game was the ad for? I tend to go for games that are never really advertised here in the states- Harvest Moon for one. Do you think that some of the game makers just think that a game doesn't need advertising? Other then a preview in print media, etc. I think games need more advertising.

I think Sony can salvage their losses if they refocus on the PS2.
Nagurikorosu
Really? I think if they could make the PS3 more cost-effective, then maybe they could ease up on the price. I mean, its not a total dud. When the cut the price by $100. temporarily (a month or two ago) sales went up, even knocking the Wii from first place on Amazon's topsellers. Also, last I heard, Blu-Ray DVDs were selling better than High Def DVDs, even Microsoft is selling its add-on High Def DVD Player separate from its...uh... (blanking on name)...er, premium X-Box 360.

Although, it may just be a marketing ploy, if the High Def Player wasn't optional, the newer version of the 360 would be more expensive than the PS3. But even sold separately, if you bought the newer 360 AND the HD Player it is more expensive than the PS3.

Speaking of 360, I thinking about buying one, after I replace my PS2, after I get a PSP, but before I get anything else. But after Blue Dragon (will Akira Toriyama's style die already! Ugh!) and Eternal Sonata, I've got nothin'.

Topic? Still haven't found those pesky Final Fantasy X ads. Gah, that really irritates me. Also, the Heavenly Sword ad? Totally confused it with 300. Seriously, I thought it was some sort of spoof with a woman as a Spartan.

I love the new game ad (Mercenaries 2, maybe?) that has a peppy, lounge-y version of a guy singing "Oh no, you di-in't" while the game characters drive around shooting things and being generally scummy. The song makes me giggle every time.
SnowDog
Me too, pile of monkeys. :-) It's one of the few commercials I don't skip when watching something on the DVR.
