The old posts have NOT been erased. Now that we have more resources at our disposal we are archiving forums that move into PH. You can find the old Alias posts in a
read-only archive in the Sci-Fi section. The Alias survival game is in the Rec Room area.

Good night, and good luck.
And congrats on that Emmy nom for stunt coordination. Of course, the stunt being the finale. Which was dren. But at least they fought. Also, the hair styling one, but unfortunately, this season featured such crap when it came to missions I doubt they'll win.
Shame for Jen, Victor and Ron. They knocked so many episodes out of the part, it's a shame (Jen had a particularly strong run from the Horizon on).
If only season 4 was respected as much as it should have been (IMO), maybe we would've seen more.

I was so sad this morning when Alias was lacking in Emmy noms, and now even sadder that the forum has been moved here. I guess it is the end of an era.
And they really didn't deserve much for S5, but since JG and the show deserved a win for S1 and S2, I was hoping for one more nomination. Oh, well. Now I can keep hating the Academy.

Well, I know that I, for one, intend to do my part to keep this thread a busy and lively place going forward. Thank you Glark, et. al., for retaining the old forum in the archive - there's damn good stuff in them thar pages and would be death to not have the forum to go to as Alias lives on in our hearts...... and DVDs, of course.

Ahhh! I wasn't expecting the Alias thread to moved to the read-only archives this soon. I never posted in that, but I did keep up with what people were posting. Kudos to everyone who gave me much insight and knowledge into understanding the show!
It is disappointing that JG and VG didn't get nods. I was really hoping she would get a win this year. (I love Allison Janney, but 4 Emmys? Jen deserved at least one of those!)
I do like this show and will watch the TNT all-nighters when I have the chance. I've been debating whether it would be worth it to get the dvds. I need to make a pro/cons list. Although I am holding out also on the possibility that it will get a complete tv series box set.
I hope that Alias spin-off happens. Or a movie. A reunion tv movie. Anything. I miss the cast already!

We are burying Alias, jippy!
Go to hell, damn show, for making us hope you would be the bestest series ever to finally end up with the worst finale ever.
Damn you too JG, JJ, and all, to tell us the finale was worth it. That was the most hypocriticizestiquest thing I've ever read.
The only thing you can do to redeem yourselves is giving us the original idea/script for the finale, with a good explanation for Rambaldi and a not turned-into-freak Irina.

I woke up this morning to see what was on the Alias forum on the awards...and I saw it had been moved into the newly-created Limbo here at TWoP. So sad...it's really over.
Most of my anger from the finale has sort of faded away, but I'm newly pissed about the lack of love from the Emmys. Surely at least JG deserved a nomination.

This definitely seals it. Although I hated the fact that both Jack and Irina died in the finale, I could never be too upset w/this show. I had waaaay more good times than bad times w/the show. I'll miss it, but I'm gonna start an Alias marathon this fall, b/c I don't think I can deal w/the fact that it won't be back.
And just to echo everyone else, the Emmys suck. I'm not really upset about Jen not getting a nod for this year, but she should have won for the pilot and most definitely for "The Two." They blew it. And both VG and LO should have won for season 2...I think I will forever be pissed about that.

I think it's more the Action Adventure part that got us put here.
They need to create an Emmy for "Most Professional Portrayal of Character Assassination" and "Continuity Fairy Murders". Then the whole bloody writing staff AND cast would have gotten nominated.

Eegah, keep up your comments! Even though I realize that it may be awhile before you're back with one.
I'm not really surprised about the Emmys. They've always been a combination of talent awards and high school student council elections. Alias started out as the cool kid that nobody really understood, except the few that got to know her. And then she started smoking pot after a while. Lots and lots of pot.....
Meanwhile, the popular kids are on parade.

I'm bummed about the lack of significant nominations for Alias, too. But given the overall missing-of-the-bullseye from the Emmy academy, I'm not shocked. Sci Fi? Really? I would have thought Drama was more appropriate.
I think it's more the Action Adventure part that got us put here.
Even so,
Alias was about Sydney's life and the SpyFam, so I definitely thought it would be considered a drama moreso than an action/adventure. The action was definitely secondary to the character relationships and the storylines.
To get back to topic, I'm really pissed that
Alias got no acting nods this year. Victor should have been a lock, especially if he submitted "AtTitW," much as I hated that ep, and honestly, if Jen submitted "MI," she should have been a lock as well.
I won't stress about it too much, because at the very least, they weren't the only people to get fucked over with this year's nominations.
About the finale, it's been over a month and a half and not only am I still bitter, I can't even force myself to watch my DVDs, because I know this dumbass show is going to take every bit of canon (particularly S1, S2, and the last two eps of S4) and just destroy it in "AtTitW." I really, really wish that ABC had cancelled
Alias after S4.

Those quotes actually gave me some hope. About that, I'm thinking of printing up an award ( certificate type award ) for writing the "most depressing, fucked-up piece of shit to ever air on tv" and send it to Jeff Pinkner and Drew Goddard.

I kind of wish now it had been cancelled after season two. The only reason I'm not is that I got to see Victor Garber for longer. After about the middle of season 3, he is the very main reason I stayed. That and as someone posted earlier, I was waiting for things to change and get better. As for being able to watch,me either. When I flip through the channels and "Alias" is on Fox, I can't flip fast enough. I'm sure one day I will be able to pull out my DVD's and dust them off to watch, but no time soon.

Good plan. I'm just going to pretend those last twenty minutes didn't happen. Seriously; Alias was a damn good show (even through the rough spots, IMHO) and it's going to take a lot more than a poorly written finale to ruin all the good times I've had with Sydney and the gang.

To get back to topic…
I don’t think that’s really an issue any longer (unless, of course, you want to wax on and on about the genius of
7th Heaven or some such...but then you have much bigger problems than staying on topic, no?)
Sci Fi? Really? I would have thought Drama was more appropriate.

I concur with
Shotgun. When the pre-finale spoilers were hinting strongly that Jack would die I first went into total denial (they’d NEVER do such a dumbassed thing as that, right?
right?). Then I declared to the world I would melt my DVDs into a little pile of sticky goo if they did. When the finale came and the worst. ending. ever. really did happen I was all set with lighter fluid in one hand and my S1-4 DVD sets in the other. But, thankfully, I was pulled back from the brink. More rational folks than I convinced me that I could simply decide that the last half hour of the last episode of the last season ever took place.
So now I simply forget that *"%#"* finale and continue to relish in the joy of the
Alias I know and love…and, of course, play the
Alias survival game where Jack, Irina and the entire Spyfam live on forever and the only person to ever die is Lauren…again…and again…and again.
ETA: One happy outcome of being placed in the Sci-fi forum is that I just discovered the Heroes
thread. I just LOVE Greg Grunberg and between his, SpyDaddy's and Ron Rifkin's new shows I think I may just be able to ease the pain of Alias
-lessness a bit this fall.

Greg Grunberg had a neat role on the Monk season premiere as a guy who accidentally killed his mistress, then accidentally killed an old guy while covering it up, and was finally held hostage by a crazy actor. Best line, where he's been with the actor dressed as Monk, and then the real Monk comes in: "There's two of you? What, is this some kind of cult?"

I've finally checked out season one of The West Wing, and noticed two Alias actors appeared in it. Merrin Dungey was Mandy's roommate, who rahter curiously never appears again after Mandy takes the job at the White House, and Carl Lumbly is a nominee for the AG for Civil Rights who is controversially in favor of slavery reperations. It was a lot of fun seeing both of them again.

The new Alias magazine has an interview with the producer of the DVDs, John Bernstein. There will be a piece on the 100th episode, including scenes from the party. There is a feature on Rambaldi, a tribute to Michael Giacchino, and a day on-set with Rachel Nichols. Also, the usual commentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers and Easter eggs. He says there will be other things as well.
Bernstein also confirms there will be a special edition of the entire series: "I am not really supposed to divulge any info quite yet, but let's just say it might somehow involve The Passenger." Whatever the hell that means.

The DVD commentaries are the best part. Can you give a bit more intel, Mam, on the who's and what's of the commentaries?
Also, why something special and secret on The Passenger for the 5 season set? In the end The Passenger turned out to be quite inconsequential. If I saw marketing or a box label that said "buy this expensive, redundant 5 season boxed set because it's got a extra-special feature on... *dramatic pause*...The Passenger", I'll think., "Oooh, that's TOTALLY worth it. Is the Alias Magazine continuing? I mean, how much more can they say about the show?
Well, the
Buffy and
Angel magazines are still in publication. Mostly they talk about actors and cons, I believe.
By the by, I'm really curious as to where all this "
Alias isn't sci-fi" stuff is coming from. Is it like, a "I don't like sci-fi/fantasy but I like
Alias, so it must not be sci-fi/fantasy?" Because seriously, people,
Alias is pure, unadulterated sci-fi/fantasy through and through. Look at it. You've got a prophet, a Chosen One, mysterious and sophisticated mechanical devices with wierd effects, chemical alteration of human behavior on a massive scale, cloning/duping/bodyswitch type stuff, genetically engineered diseases, fake artificially-induced deaths and subsequent resurrections, immortality, absurdly sophisticated spy gadgets, and do I really need to go on? I was baffled to find that so many people here thought the S&R zombie thing was weird and out of place. Zombies fit perfectly well into a world with the Helix project and a 500-year-old flower.
And I
really can't comprehend not classing it as Action-Adventure. At least one explosion and twenty shots fired per week? Wigs? Rappelling off buildings? Hanging from a giant magnet hundreds of feet above the ground? Frantically fleeing thousands of gallons of rushing water?
Does the show
have drama? Of course it does. So does
Battlestar Galactica. And if either of the two were to be classified "drama" before it was "sci-fi", it would be Battlestar.
"I am not really supposed to divulge any info quite yet, but let's just say it might somehow involve The Passenger."
That's just wierd. Dudes, we
saw the finale. Do you really, really, honestly think that we're still buying into your "mythology"? Like, ooh, if we buy the DVD box, new Rambaldi secrets will be revealed! Right. I'm with
kicking.

I was one of those people who was a total Alias junkie and was obsessive about it in S1 and S2. And then Lauren came and I barely made it through S3. After I read the spoilers that they were going to kill off Vaughn, I couldn't watch S5, but I did watch the finale and proceeded to cry my eyes out when they killed of my beloved Spy Daddy.
I figured JJ wasn't going to explain shit in the finale....

Maybe the DVD will have, like, hours of extra scenes that were supposed to be in the final season before ABC cut the order. And they are all the scenes that EXPLAIN

As silly as "The Passenger" stuff sounds, I think I would buy the boxed set just so that I could get a new copy of a few of the Season 2 episodes. One of my discs came scratched and, as a result, I get like five seconds into the "passive transmitter" scene before it skips like twenty minutes ahead on me. So, currently, there's about twenty minutes of Alias canon that I'm missing, and I'm pretty sure I want to see that part.
And
FrightenedAuk, I totally agree with you that Alias fits right into the Sci-Fi and Action forum. But this,
At least one explosion and twenty shots fired per week? Wigs? Rappelling off buildings? Hanging from a giant magnet hundreds of feet above the ground? Frantically fleeing thousands of gallons of rushing water?
reminded me how much Season 5 paled in comparison to some of the earlier seasons (might I include Season 3 on that list? I just might. Lemme think about it.). Well, I mean, the giant magnet was Season 5, but... really. Yeah, but I do wonder how much of that was because they were lost without JG being in shape for all the stunts. At the end there, she couldn't even get down a flight of four steps without using both rails, never mind running up six floors, out onto a roof and then leaping off with her parachute in her backpack.
Although, it would have started being repetetive at some very near point. How much more could they do in terms of wiggy, leggy ops?
Also, on another subject, I know what VG is doing now and GG will have work whereever Jaybrams is, is there any news on the rest of the cast and what they have in the works?

I think he actually turned down an Abrams show, in which he would be the star, to do it. It's odd how his role got smaller in each JJ show (major character in Felicity, occasional supporting player in Alias, dead in the first episode in Lost) so that could have been cool. However, I'm still looking forward to Heroes.

I think that was part of it, but also more budget/time. They made this huge deal about Rachel coming on to make up for Syd being pregnant and then...she didn't really have any cool stunts.
If you read interviews from the first season the writers and crew are so excited about how the stunt people would come to them with ideas, like dropping from a helicopter, and they would build entire segments around them. They really stopped doing that in S3. It became, okay "what action could we fit in this episode to make it look spy-like?" instead of, "how can we make this really cool action segment work with our show." They all just got tired and didn't have the money to be as elaborate and did a half-asked job. I do the same thing at work myself sometimes, but millions of viewers don't have to suffer for it.
Same with the costumes and stuff, really. They just haphazardly threw outfits together instead of like in S1 and S2 when they came up with great ideas for an alias, and then tried to use them. Plus, I think they ran out of money for wigs and just reused the old ones.

Although I will love alias for life, it never will be the same as my love for S1 + S2. The series finale was disappointing, but what else could anybody expect of the end of favorite show. True, it didn't have to be that disappointing. I really liked what happened to Sloane, but did VG have to do it?
Anyway, I will buy S5 on DVD, because any special features would be nice. I don't think they will explain much, but maybe a little bit. Maybe even explain what the writers were thinking (if they were thinking at all) when they wrote the finale.

Okay, here's my UO about Alias: I really enjoyed the finale. I thought it was exciting, fast-paced, insane, over-the-top, confusing, ridiculous, and completely incomprehensible-- in other words, it was just like the rest of the series.
