I seached and saw that there was no thread for this show premiering in Sept. I for one can't wait for this show. I love Megan and I loved her as Karen Walker on Will and Grace. Here is the first promo for her new talk show.

Not sure yet, but I am so excited for the show to air! I adore Megan and her many crazy talents. I read that she wants the show to be Merv Griffin like, where she'll have an eclectic mix of song and people and fun.
Megan did a good job a few years back when she stepped in to guest host for Letterman when he was ill. I'm looking forward to this, I really hope it does well. It will be a great venue for her to show off her songs, I love her CDs. She's a wonderful live performer with a really good personality.

I assume it's syndicated, so you'll have to check listings in the fall.
I think this should be good. MM has natural charisma and I think that she just wants to have a good time (God knows she's not doing it for the money).

I'm guessing she'll be on in Tony Danza's old slot in NYC - 10am NBC opposite Ellen's show. I'm not home for daytime TV, but I'll be recording it a few times to give her a try.

Rachael Ray's new daytime show is taking over Tony's time slot in NYC. No clue about Megan's show.

I'm looking forward to this. The promos look more fun than the late W&G, and it's not even a sitcom....although I guess we'll be saying goodbye to Karen when the show actually starts.

OMG, did she look like Tina Fey in that promo or what?!
Glad to see she's not pretending like her "Karen" persona never exsisted like some actors do after their shows are over.

I love this woman, I hope her talk show sticks( anything over Tyra) and that she doesn't use the Karen Walker voice that much.

Megan has such as sexy voice aside from her "Karen voice". Her singing voice isn't so bad either. I hope she gets to showcase her singing talents ala W&G finale and those M&M commericals. I'm just waiting for the inevitable W&G cast reunion show, you know it's going to happen.

I think a great bit for her first show would be for Megan to say she has an exciting announcement and then introduce her co-host, Star Jones! I hope the show is zany and irreverant.

The publicity has been awful...I can't believe they aren't promoting her more.

It seems to depend a lot on where you are. I hear some areas are giving her Ellen's slot, or airing back to back with Ellen, which doesn't sound bad at all.

I was never a huge W&G fan (aside from Jack and Karen...loved them!). I missed her subbing for Dave but did catch her on his show once as a guest and she sang "Guilty" by Randy Newman....a sweet bluesy cryin'-in-your-beer song.....and she blew me away! This gal can sing her ass off.
If they promote her well her show could fly.

I thought it was meh, which kills me, because I love Megan and I want her to succeed. But all of it was dull, and when you make a naked Will Ferrell dull, that's bad. And no more karate kids. Ever.

I thought it was good. Of course there's a lot to improve, but who's going to get everything right in the first show? There are worse shows out there that just refuse to be cancelled. I think this one at least has potential to get much better. I'd rather watch Megan than Rachael Ray anyway.

I'll throw my in my .02. I thought it was pretty good. It's different and the little production number gave me a chuckle. I'm no Will Ferrell fan, though.
Since it's up against some soap here in Seattle, I'll watch.

I thought it was okay. I liked Jenny McCarthy's segment. Will was okay in spots. She had a kid on though. I hate kids on talk shows.
I hate them a lot. So I fast forwarded through the child segment.
I won't tivo this, but if someone I'm interested in comes on I'll give it another chance. Which is more of a chance than I'm giving Rachel Ray's show - I can't seem to force myself to check it out.

I thought it was fun though there are improvements to be made. Loved seeing her husband, Nick, in the opening dance segment. He was the doofus who danced around without his shirt on. He is quite handsome in person, though.
Megan did well and clearly tried very hard. I'm hopeful that the show will hit its stride soon.

I doubt I'll watch past this week unless she has a guest on who really interests me. I was wondering about the clips at the end. Were those all practice shows we'll never see, or are those clips of shows we'll be seeing in the future? I'd like to see her Kristen Chenowith interview, and the juggling star of How I Met Your Mother as well.

Yikes! I love love Megan, it had it's good moments and bad, so I am going to give her two weeks until I doom her into cancelhood. Can't be any worse than the Rachel Ray show. She irks my last nerves and I hate the fact Oprah is producing it, when she could be helping Megan out ;)

Megan does well in interviewing, but the rest of the show seems a little bit flat to me. It could just be one of those first week things and they'll try to fix it. Today's show was kind of boring (from what I saw I missed the first 20 minutes). Yesterday's and todays shows actually made me miss Tony Danza's show and that's just wrong.

I tuned in yesterday to see Benji and Heidi (still trying to ease my SYTYCD withdrawal symptoms) and was, candidly, amazed by how awful MM was as a host. As Karen Walker, she was one of the funniest, most talented women on television, but as an interviewer? She reminded me of "The Chris Farley Show" on Saturday Night Live.
"Wowww......so, uh, you remember when you were on that show? And you were dancing? And there were all those other people dancing? That was so cool. Yeah? You remember that?"
Benji and Heidi, bless 'em, stood politely and nodded until they actually found an opening to participate in the conversation. And what a waste of a Donyelle!
I like MM a great deal, but I'm not sure this particular venture exactly plays to her strengths....

She drags stuff out too long or something. Overdoes it, wears it out, beats it to death. And you can tell she's about to do it. Boring, kinda painful to watch. I mean things that aren't really that interesting like going to the bathroom at some awards show. And she sounds like an old lady barely able to stay centered, but she is centered on some really boring story or other. She's like a person you'd like to listen to while you do something else, but only because you want to be kind and not tell them to shut up please.

I think she is good, when she is playing off of someone (like Will Farrell), but as an interviewer??? She speaks in a tone of voice reserved for animals, very small children, and the mentally retarded. She is not good. I will not be watching, and since already the time for the hsow ahs changed in my area, I know I really won't be watching.

I tried to watch this today for the first time..."tried" being the operative word. And the title of this thread sums it up very well: she's no Karen Walker...ah, but if she were the world would be a better place. As it stands, awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And why o why can I not stand that woman from Friends? Together they were like watching paint dry.

I tried to watch as well and had to put my hands over my face and watch thru my fingers for most of it. I do think the public thinks MM and Karen Walker are in many ways one in the same.... I guess she was trying to show us that she is NOT Karen by doing this show, but if I were her I would have milked the damn Karen thing to death. It's like her thought process was "Ok, so Karen is funny, irreverent, politically incorrect, has a great rack and everybody loves her... hmmm let me distance myself by being boring, awkard and totally uninteresting!" People weren't/aren't tuning in to see Megan they want to see Karen and her crazy alcohol/pill induced antics!

I've seen 3 of her shows so far and I have to say that I really think it's one of the worst talk shows I've seen in a while. She's not funny and can't interview for shit. I say it'll be the first show cut. It's just brutal.

I've watched a little of the show two times now. Wow, painful is right! So awkward. So boring. Her pacing is just awful. I watched when Jenny McCarthy was on. She went out into the audience, and was so much more colorful than Megan. Today she was interviewing Felicity Huffman. First, I was stunned that they knew each other and had had dinner together. The conversation was soooo awkward. Like strangers with nothing to talk about. And again, Felicity outshone the host. I couldn't watch any more and, like others, removed the show from my Tivo list of season passes.

As you can see upthread, I had such high hopes for Megan, because really I adore her. But now I am starting to believe that she was probably better off getting a Karen Walker spin-off or something. Not that it would have done well(see Joey) but it would have been 100x better than this crap.

I guess I'm the only who enjoys it then. I really like Megan and I'm just happy to see her on tv. I do think they should try to use her strengths more, because she is a very good singer, has been a professional dancer, and they could use her acting skills in comedy skits, maybe even using Karen as a character.

I think Megan's skills would be better showcased in a variety show. She can sing, dance and act - she just can't interview or speak extemporaneously. I'd love to see her do a Carol Burnett-type thing - she'd be awesome in sketches and musical numbers.

I found an article about the ratings are at the futon critic. (I could be wrong, but aren't these in the same range as the Tyra Banks numbers?):
"THE MEGAN MULLALLY SHOW" DEBUTS WITH STRONG LOCAL MARKET PERFORMANCES
Released by NBC Universal Television Studios
New Talk/Variety Show Scores in New York, Chicago and Many Other Top Cities; "Mullally" Maintains Lead-In Across All Markets
HOLLYWOOD, CASept 19, 2006- NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution's "The Megan Mullally Show" debuted in national syndication Monday with strong local market performances in many of the nation's top markets.
Mullally's first show grew over its lead-in or improved over its year-ago time period average in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Tampa, Seattle, Miami, Denver, Sacramento, Orlando and in a number of markets beyond the top 20, according to Nielsen Media Research metered market data.
For its debut, Megan averaged a 1.2/4 HH rating and share in the metered markets, maintaining 100% of its lead-in. Across all markets, "The Megan Mullally Show" on average held its share in each quarter hour.
On WNBC-TV New York, "The Megan Mullally Show" averaged a 1.5 rating/5 share, more than doubling its lead-in ("Passions") and topping its lead-out ("Ellen"), while growing each quarter hour. On WMAQ-TV Chicago, the show grew 175% over its HH lead-in (local programming) and improved its time period by 21%. (rest of article snipped for length)

A 1.2 rating is around what Daytime talk shows have when they are cancelled. But, no surprise at the press release saying the ratings are "strong", look at who wrote the press release-NBC Universal Television Studios, the same company that makes her show.
Why, oh why, do TPTB give people like her a talk show anyway?? It's clear she isn't cut out to be a talk show host. The show really sucks.
I'm going to give it a year. I would like to give it six months, but TPTB will drag it on, pretending they made a good choice, when they know they didn't.

A friend of mine sent me this message while we were watching Megan's show in different rooms: "So have you been watching the Megan Mullally Show? I've seen the beginning of it a few times this week and i finally figured out what her "entrance" reminds me of... she does that stupid surprised look when the curtain goes up- strikingly similar to Kathy Griffin's impersonation of Celine Dion.
"...You know, Rene. Perhaps tonight is the night they do not come."
Now I hear that every time I watch this stupid show and it makes me laugh.

Bwah! I was trying to figure out what Megan's entrance reminded me of.
Her interview with Julia Louis-Dreyfus today wasn't bad, probably because they knew each other. I had no idea Julia's husband was Megan's ex-boyfriend.
