I looked all through the TV Potluck Forum, and didn't see anything like this. Weddings have been a staple on TV for as long as I can remember. They are usually fraught with last-second complications; they can be sweet and romantic, or annoyingly saccharine. What are some of your favorite or least favorite TV weddings?
I enjoyed Lane & Zach's two weddings last night on Gilmore Girls. She had a Buddhist ceremony to please her very traditional Korean grandmother, and another one in a Christian church in front of her mother and all her friends.
I didn't like Major Nelson & Jeannie's wedding on I dream of Jeannie. They did this weird out of body type thing in slow motion with annoying music. Plus, they used a walking mannequin to stand in for Jeannie while walking down the aisle because she allegedly couldn't be photographed, which contradicted earlier continuity.

I absolutely loved Dwayne and Whitley's wedding from "A Different World," as cliched as it was. I don't care that he interrupted her wedding to other guy (can't remember his name) with a "Baby, please!" because that was my favorite part.
Best TV wedding EVER!

I loved when Phoebe and Mike got married on "Friends." They got married after a huge snowstorm in the street outside Central Perk. And when Phoebe walked down the aisle to "Here, There, And Everywhere" played on the steel drums, that was it for me.
And let's not forget Ray and Deb's wedding flashback on ELR. Ray can't contain his excitement so he meets the bride halfway down the aisle!

Ross and Emily's wedding. Sure, he kept saying Rachel, but at least they wound up getting married, even though they divorced shortly after.

To my own great embarassment, I really enjoyed Rob and Amber's wedding. My favorite part was the horrified look on the ultra-chic wedding consultant's face when Amber told him her dress would be made by a friend of her mother's. How could you not like Amber after that? And in the end, she looked beautiful, the wedding was lovely, and it looked like people really had fun.

My pick is Luke and Laura from General Hospital for the Worst. Some pretty young thing marries her rapist. Reprehensible.

I guess there's two different criteria that can be used in this thread. Was it a bad wedding because the couple shouldn't have been getting married in the first place (Luke and Laura)? Or was it a bad wedding because the couple was okay, but the ceremony itself was tacky and badly-staged (Jeannie and Major Nelson)?
Among the tackiest: Lisa Hartman on Knots Landing walking down the aisle in a bare-midriff wedding gown and Jane Wyman on Falcon Crest getting married in a girlish white gown and full-length veil even though she was in her seventies.
One of the best was Jean Smart's wedding on Designing Women, although I'm not sure if it was appropriate to sing "Ave Maria" at a Baptist wedding. The fact that I actually remember that is kind of disturbing.

I loved that wedding! The reception with the Yummy Bartenders, then the self serve bar, and band just seemed so fun. It was such a great episode.
I liked Carol's non-wedding on ER. Even though she got stood up, it was a good episode.

Best:
On Days of Our Lives...
Sami and Austin's would be wedding when it was revealed she a) lied about her son's paternity and b) was faking amnesia, and Carrie slapped her face.
Sami and Austin's would be Vegas wedding when Austin finally came to his senses and dumped Sami at the altar and she fell to her knees and screamed and cried and had snot bubbles everywhere.
As an avowed Sami hater, these weddings were comedy gold.
Some pretty young thing marries her rapist. Reprehensible.
Austin was ready to marry Sami even after she'd drug raped him. But, apparently, for some fans, that doesn't count, because it was a girl doing it to a guy and for some inexplicable reason, that's not considered as bad as vice versa.

That was good, too. I can't remember if they showed Dorothy's wedding. I do remember that the dress was HID.E.OUS!
RE Dwayne and Whitley: I liked theirs, too.
I can't really say at this point the best but I can say the worst. On Inked, one of the tatto artist got married. Everyone was drunk, including the bride. Every one was dressed any old kind of way, including the bride and groom. No one really knew what the hell was happening. I felt so bad b/c when they look back on there 3am nupitals, they are going to be like, "WTF?"

I loved Bobby and Diane's wedding on NYPD Blue, simply for the Justice of the Peace. It was late in the day, and he had to squeeze these two in. He looked tired and as if he just wanted to go home. Bobby and Diane both look quietly disappointed at his very matter-of-fact, all business beginning to the basic marriage lingo; then he looks at them, sees how much they love each other, and his whole tone changes. No wedding dress, borrowed flowers, a work suit that's probably seen murder victims....and still a beautiful moment.

I loved the wedding from the "Spring" episode of The Vicar of Dibley. Granted, it was a dream sequence, but I'm hoping it counts.
Geraldine, the Vicar, is about to marry David, who she isn't sure if she really likes or not. So they're at the altar and this ensues:
Officiant: Do you, Geraldine, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?
Geraldine: Um.....ummmmmmm......
The church door bursts open. Sean Bean is standing at the end of the aisle.
Sean Bean: Don't do it, Geraldine! It's me you love, not him.
(Pause)
Sean Bean: Come on, lass.
Geraldine, running up the aisle, arms outstretched: That's right! Save me, Sean! Save meeee!

Best soap wedding: Cass and Lila (and the gorilla) in the final episodes of Another World.
Best gay wedding: Joe and Larry on Will & Grace . The charming old inn in Vermont, the kayak (what a great wedding gift!) and best of all, Karen's look of horror when she discovers that it's an alcohol-free reception.

Best wedding? Turk and Carla's non-wedding on Scrubs.
Turk getting caught in surgery, going to the wrong church, and seeing Priest George Takei? Check.
Elliott waxing off Carla's sister's eyebrow? Check.
Mama Turk laying the smack down on Marco, Kelso thinking Turk's name is Turk Turkleton, Dani making out with everyone, Sean's quarter-Hungarian beard, and JD's keys smacking Elliott in the face? Brilliant comedy!
The best part of the episode, however, has to be when the Worthless Peons sing "Eight Days a Week". It's so sweet, but so fun. Just like Carla and Turk.

Ted and Georgette's wedding on Mary Tyler Moore was another good one. Completely spur-of-the-moment ceremony at Mary's apartment (Georgette: "What would you do if I told you that there's going to be a minister over here with all our friends in the next half-hour to have a wedding?" Mary: "Vacuum!"), and the minister (I think it was John Ritter) shows up in his tennis outfit. The best part? Mary can't find a white dress for Georgette to wear...
Georgette: That's okay, Mary. I don't need a white dress--I'll just wear what I have on.
Mary: Sure! What's wrong with plaid?
Georgette: Nothing. It's Ted's favorite color!

For worst TV wedding, I nominate every TV wedding ever that involved either the bride or groom being substituted for someone else at the last possible moment, usually to smiles and applause from those in attendance. As a mother of 4 daughters, and a battle-scarred survivor of planning 3 of their wedddings, if any of them had pulled a last-minute groom-change.....yeah, I don't think I would have been smiling and applauding.
Ditto every TV wedding that involves the two people deciding at the altar, "You know what? Let's not get married. It's better this way. Let's just go ahead and have a great time at the reception, anyway." For my reaction to this, see above.
Sometimes too much real-life experience on the part of the viewer can spoil the entertainment value of certain TV formulas.

Yep, they did show it. They did that thing where we heard the characters' inner dialogue, rather than them speaking aloud. In the cheesy but awesome department I have to mention Donna and David on 90210 because it was the perfect thing for the finale.
And for strange but touching wedding does anyone remember the wedding of Jeffrey Geiger's (Mandy Patinkin) ex-wife on Chicago Hope? This is one of my favorite tv weddings and also one of my favorite funny moments, because the 'ceremony' is performed by a fellow patient. played by the late Richard Libertini, who believes himself to be Eva Peron. The hilarity was deeply increased by the fact that Libertini was tall, cadaverous, bearded and nearly bald, and also by Mandy Patinkin's well-known status as the actor who won a Tony for playing the character of 'Che' in the original Broadway cast of "Evita". On "Chicago Hope," Libertini's character kept looking at Geiger during the wedding preparations and asking, "Don't I know you?" And then, at the end of the ceremony, the guests were invited to sing along with the recessional [lyric sheets provided at each chair] - which was "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina". I still crack up thinking about it.
Count me as one who loved the Luke&Laura wedding on GH. Without getting into the [fascinating] debate on the morality of their romance, I will only say that it was sumptuous, romantic, a grand culmination to their recent adventure saving the world from being frozen, most of the then-beloved veteran characters were present, and the ending - ex-husband Scotty appearing unexpectedly to catch the bouquet and announce that he and Laura were still married! - was pure soap opera at its best. I also loved Victor and Nikki's first wedding on "Y&R", another sumptuous romantic feast, and one that saluted the show's history by bringing back several exiled veterans. Come to think of it, their impromptu 'deathbed' ceremony, when Nikki was nearly killed by her most recent husband's deranged ex [who had just killed the husband] was incredibly touching, although it turned out to be illegal and they had to wait several more years and through several more lovers/spouses/estrangements to be together again.

For best, I've got to go with Paul and Jamie's first wedding on Mad About You. I haven't seen it in years, so I'm a bit fuzzy on the specifics, but I know they were having crisis after crisis with the wedding, and their families and friends were driving them insane. They end up getting married by Lyle Lovett on the street (he worked for Con-Ed or something, right?), and because it's before midnight they get to have two anniversaries - one that only they know about, and the one their families think they have.
Of course, that just leads to the stupid plot line at the end where they find out they aren't really married, but whatever. It was one of the most romantic and awesome things ever. (As a side-note, the first time it aired, I missed the beginning. I walked into my dorm room to find my then-roommate sobbing her eyes out. I thought something horrible was wrong, but all she could say was, "The Buchmans are getting married." I thought she was crazy, but then I saw the whole ep, and just wow.)

I'd add to that any TV wedding where someone gets jilted at the altar, especially when it's played for laughs, or when it's to go off with someone else (I don't think I'd be very flattered if someone had got to the point of having planned a wedding and being about to walk down the aisle before they decided they'd rather be with me).

Add me to the list of those who dislike on principle the numerous weddings where someone is either left at the altar, or a substitution is made before the wedding goes on. Invariably the person left at the altar doesn't deserve it - they entered into the engagement in good faith. One of the worst 'interrupted weddings' IMHO was Paige's on "Life Goes On", where you just knew that she was going to dump the perfectly nice well-to-do WASP who had asked her to marry him so that she could run off with the 'rebel artist' who'd been snarking around. Then, to make it more 'acceptable', the writers gave us a last minute change in the character of the groom, who turned into a whiny brat who didn't really want Paige after all, but was marrying her to please his father [why his marrying a middle class employee was supposed to please his snobbish father was never made clear, but... whatever] Paige barely broke stride in leaving the altar to jump on the back of her artist-lover's motorcycle.
That being said, in spite of feeling honestly sorry for Byron - Whitley's spurned groom on "A Different World" - I couldn't help the surge of electricity that went through me with Dwayne's heartfelt, "Please, baby, please!"....

My favorite wedding is the "Old Fashioned Wedding" from Cheers where Woody and Kelly get married. It is one of my favorite episodes of the series; it unfolds like a good play. In true sitcom fashion, everything that can go wrong does. The minister dies and the gang tries to hide the body in the dumwaiter. Rebecca annoyes the chef and he quits. A button comes off of the wedding dress and it needs to be sewn on. Woody and Kelly aren't supposed to see each other before the ceremony but they can't keep their hands off each other. Lilith entertains the wedding guests while the gang tries to get a drunken Uncle Roger to perform the service. Sam is the one trying to keep the whole thing together all while hitting on a wedding guest. It's a great episode.

My favorite tv wedding also comes from General Hospital but rather than Luke and Laura,my vote goes to the hilarious ceremony of Sean and Tiffany. What begins as an ordinary wedding changes when the minister sends everyone ( excepting Tiffany ) into hysterics by referring to her by her previously unknown real name of Elsie May.No one can stop laughing after that.

The wedding of Patch and Kayla on Days was awesomely cheesy. I laughed out loud when Kayla suddenly regained her ability to speak and was able to say her vows instead of using sign language.
Sadly, I begged a neighbor to watch that wedding at her house because we were moving that day, and I absolutely could not miss Steve and Kayla's wedding! I was 13, though, so that's my excuse.
I don't know why I'm admitting this, but I actually cried while watching Rob and Amber's wedding. I am such a sap. I made the mistake of telling one of my friends this, and now, every time I describe watching a movie or something else that made me cry, she snarks, "Did you cry as much as you did during Rob and Amber's wedding?"
I also loved Charlotte and Harry's wedding on

This wedding certainly rocked. I loved Frank’s being all crotchety because he thought it was a huge joke and he was pissed that he was being forced to drag a very-pregnant Mary (who subsequently went into labor at the end) to the ceremony. He went into a great monologue (caught on tape by Brody) about how if the whole thing wound up being a demented joke on Meldrick’s part that he would kill him and that he could get away with it because he (Frank) was a very clever detective.
…Woody and Kelly [from Cheers] aren't supposed to see each other before the ceremony but they can't keep their hands off each other…
What was so hilarious about this was that Kelly was a virgin until the night before the wedding when she and Woody got their wild thang on. After that all bets were off and everyone had their hands full trying to keep the pair apart.
I also enjoyed Margaret’s and Donald’s wedding on
M*A*S*H*. Everyone got Donald so drunk at his bachelor party the night before that they were able to put him in a full-body cast and convince him that he had broken his leg (although why that would require a full-body cast, I've no idea). He had to be rolled into the mess tent/church on a dolly. And BJ’s and Hawkeye’s inability to convey to Margaret on the helicopter pad when Margaret and Donald were leaving for their honeymoon in Tokyo that it was all a joke was priceless.
ETA: There was also a great part in the
M*A*S*H* wedding where someone commented about how stately (or something) Colonel Potter looked like as he walked Margaret down the aisle. Another person commented that he looked that way because he had a hangover that could kill his horse.

I remember watching this back in 1981 very early in the morning. When Diana got Charles' name wrong during the vows (She said Charles Phillip George Arthur, when in fact its Charles Phillip Arthur George), I had a feeling that somehow the marriage wasn't going to be right. And so it wasn't.

My loathing of Kylie and Jason, sorry Charlene and Scott's wedding on 'Neighbours' is eternal. The bald guy singing on the sound-track that really famous song, what's it called again? I'd know it if I heard it. The bridesmaid's dresses. Lucy Robinson. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!
My sister has the best of Neighbours compilation DVD and that's on it. HATE!
The 'Friends' ones a TERRIBLY cutesy are they not, well except for "I take thee Rachel" and that was touch and go at times. The best one is the Vegas misdirection when we get set up to believe that Chandler and Monica are gonna get married and then out of the door comes a VERY drunk Ross and Rachel with "why hello Mrs Ross!" and "why hello Mr Rachel!" those lines alone being worth it.
I'm really pleased we never got to see either Starbuck or (maybe Apollo) marrying on Battlestar Galactica, horrific.
