Has anyone checked out this cartoon spinoff of the movie The Emperor's New Groove? I happen to think that it is hilarious. There's something about Kuzco that I absolutely like, and of course, Kronk is the best. Patrick Warburton is a voiceover genius!

I've actually made it a point to DVR this show. I'm kind of torn on it though, one the one hand I find it amusing, krunk is great and Ezma / Amze I never fails to make me laugh, but on the other hand I hate it when Disney makes a show just cause they want more money, which is so why they made this. Overall though I wouldn have to say I really enjoy the show, though the plots are all vaugly the same, Kuzco has to complete assignment X, Ezma comes up with some plan to stop him, he manages to use said plan to his advantage, he passes. Oh, is anyone else confused as to when this was to take place? He and Krunk seem younger then their movie selves, and Ezma isn't a kitten, and Kuzco is still all about himself, and Krunk still works for Ezma, etc... However he does know Patcha, & Patcha and his wife have had their third child... So confused.

See, when Disney makes something
just for money, you can count on not much effort being put into it, which comes across onscreen. But, with this show, I see actual effort.
Someone obviously cares about it. The writing is pretty funny and mature. (By Disney standards.) I love the way the cartoon makes fun of its own, pretty formulaic plot. So, they know, they're just having fun with it. Which is fun to watch.
Now,
Hannah Montana,
that seems like it was made just to make money.

I've caught a couple of episodes of this show, and while I thought it was funny (especially Kronk, he rules!), I couldn't get past how much whomever they got to voice Kuzco doesn't sound at all like David Spade. It's distracting.

The captions spell Ezma "Yzma". Odd.
I've seen a few episode. It's okay.
One moment that really stood out to me was when Kuzco had to learn squirrel.
Kuzco: Do you really think I'm going to save somebody's life by saying "Squeaker squeak squeak squeaker squeak"?
Teacher: Probably not, considering you just said "Jump into the shark tank".

It's a sequel to the movie. I don't know how Yzma got changed back (it's probably in "Kronk's New Groove", which I haven't seen yet), but this is all after the film.

My four year old loves this show. He runs around yelling K U Z Z O thinking it spells Kuzco.
It's more fun to watch it with him.
The Emperor's voice irritates me a little bit--but it's still a cute show.

I for one find this show to be damn funny. Although, yes, the scrub they got filling in for Spade sucks, he does do a pretty admirable job. I also think the show does a perfect job of recreating the feel and atmopshere of the movie, unlike the godawful Lilo and Stitch series. But I gotta say, sometimes it gets annoying when they rehash the EXACT SAME jokes from the movie--except for the "PULL THE LEVER!" parts. I love those. Lets hope this one stays on the air for at least more than one season.

Yes. I love the fact that "Pull the Lever!" became a running gag.
I was a gametester for Disney Interactive around the time the movie came out, and while I never actually played the release version, I remember enjoying the PlayStation game, though I hated the rollercoaster levels.

For some odd reason, the line that cracks me up the most is the one where Kuzco's assistant tells the painter "You're fired" in the most prim and proper voice.

I liked when Kuzco told Kronk, "Don't play dumb with me. With you, that could cause the universe to implode." Too funny!

My favorite line so far (and trust me, there are plenty good'ns) is the one where Kitty-Kuzco is gonna fight Kavo, and he accidentally makes fun of him again.

ITA. I never saw the movie or even knew there was one; I just happened to have the TV on ABC one weekend morning and caught this by accident (I don't even have kids) and I was surprised how witty it was. I now make it a point to watch... yep, 45 years old and still watching cartoons. I used to think anything that wasn't Looney Tunes was junk, but I've revised my opinion. (If Kuzco in the movie had a different voice, I'd probably think he sounded strange! Maybe I'll have to Netflix it and find out.)

He did, espie. In the movie, Kuzco is voiced by David Spade. I wouldn't let that turn you off the movie, though, if you're not a David Spade fan, because Kuzco's just as funny as in the show.

I caught this show and I really like it. I dont care for the opening sequence though. I liked the episode where Kuzko, Melina, and Kronk were left in the jungle to fend for themselves. Kuzko, of course, runs to the nearest fully stocked emperor "emergency" shelter. The humor is pretty quick and random, sort of reminds me of the Fairly Odd Parents.

In the movie, David Spade did the voice - but don't worry - you'd hardly notice the difference. The current VA does a great impersonation.

I can't believe it, but 24 hours after the fact I'm still giggling about Kronk sneaking up the mountain to hit Kuzco with the cloning spray: "Tiptoe, tiptoe, HIDE... tiptoe, tiptoe, HIDE..."
I'm embarrassed to admit I can't figure something out because the show is rated Y7 and I'm almost seven times that age, but I'll plead ignorance because I'm a new fan... how come Kronk works with Yzma against Kuzco but is still his friend? The first couple of eppys I saw, I thought there were two Kronks, one an evil (but still dim-witted) twin.

Did anyone see the latest episode with the "it's a wonderful life" plot? Kuzco wishes he'd never been emperor and the world becomes wacky, with Yzma in charge and Krunk as school principal. It had a rather enjoyable musical number as well.

If any of you haven't seen the movie, you HAVE TO!!! It has to be one of my favorite movies ever; the humor and wit is just great; the cast is perfect.
I haven't caught many of the episodes but overall think they're great too. The David Spade voice is also distracting to me even though it is a pretty good impersonation, but I can still watch.
If I watch the movie, for days my son and I go around saying "Cheese me no likey!!!" LOL!
And then I have this urge to watch Boomerang to see Eartha Kitt crack me the f up.

I believe they wrapped this show up just a few months ago with an episode where Kuzco finally graduates. I'm not sure if this has been aired yet or not. I haven't seen it but am looking forward to it.
RIP Eartha Kitt - you will be missed.
Re: This show, it along with Kim Possible and The Replacements have really impressed me. I only started watching them a few months ago when I got quite sick and have had to be off work. I admit I didn't want to watch deep and serious stuff -I wanted lighthearted and funny and that's why I've ended up on Family Channel so much. Anyway these cartoons are extemely well done IMO and well worth watching!

It aired on Disney Channel the last week of November, I believe.
RIP Eartha Kitt. I know her from a lot of different things, yet the first thing I thought of when I saw the headline was "Yzma died?!" She really made the character. I'm glad the show was done already, because I can't imagine what they would have done to replace her, no one would have been good enough.

I always smile when I think of her, from her replacing Julie Newmar as Catwoman on Batman, to being parodied on Monty Python's Flying Circus, to playing the horny fragrance magnate in the Eddie Murphy vehicle Boomerang. She was one in a million.
Who knew about the torrid affair with Orson Welles in the 50s?
Yeah, there's no way they could recast Yzma if the show was still on.

Me too... in fact, that's a direct quote of the e-mail I sent my similarly Kuzco-minded friend when I first heard the news. I'm glad she got some tangible recognition for her voice work; she was excellent in this role.
Wish this series was on DVD; I don't have cable and can only get the first season on regular old ABC. Good, but getting a little repetitive.

Honestly, I think this would have rivaled "Poor Unfortunate Souls" as the greatest Disney Villain Song ever.

I saw the very last episode of this show today and really enjoyed it. I like the way they tied things up and that they left it that Malina and Kuzco were dating, not married. Also loved the way Yzma becomes Kronk's assistant. Nice touch.

I just saw the film a couple months ago (boyfriend is a big fan of it, which is no surprise given how much he loves Looney Tunes and The Emporer's New Groove is probably the closest Disney has come to that style, humor and animation-wise), liked it a lot. Didn't expect it to be so funny. Is the sequel (prequel?) with Kronk any decent (as far as Disney sequels go, I'm not asking to judge it by theatrical release standards) ? How "in-continuity" was this series with the films and, even if it kinda wasn't, was it still good fun ?
I don't think that Eartha Kitt/Yzma song that was cut would've rivaled "Poor Unfortunate Souls" (hmm, now I'm trying to think of what other Disney villains got a feature song and how they stack up), but I guess it's unfair to judge without seeing it animated and hearing it in big, cleaned-up sound.
I know Disney films go through a number of transformations (just got done with Mulan on DVD recently and there were a few ways they were thinking of going with that), but I didn't know Emporer's was planned to be more of a straight-up epic at one point. Could've been cool to see Yzma more like an Incan version of Cruella Deville with a hellish personality closer to Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, but Kitt was so funny in the role as it was so I dunno if I would've traded that to see her to do straight-up villainy.

Cruella de Ville's song
Gaston's song (No one ___s like Gaston, no one ___s like Gaston)
"Are You In or Out" (the den of thieves from Aladdin 3)
"We are Siamese if you please" - The Siamese cats
"Be Prepared" - Scar from Lion King
"My Lullaby" - Zira from Lion King 2
"I Wanna Be Like You" - King Louie (minor villian, but villian none the less)
"Mine, Mine, Mine" - Ratcliffe, from Pocahontas
I'm sure I'm missing a few, but none of them stack up to Ursulla's.

I really enjoy the series. It's pretty funny. As for the continuity, it takes place after the movie. Before he can truly become emperor, Kuzco has to "live among the people." He also has to go to and graduate from high school. If he fails, he can't become emperor. So, of course, Yzma comes up with one loopy scheme after another to try to keep him from graduating.
