I didn't see a soda specific thread, so here goes. (And this might even be too specific, but we shall see.)

I just saw the commercial for Coca-Cola Blak [sic]. First off, why? And second, is there really anyone who wants coffee in their cola?

I just saw a glimpse of something I hope I'm imagining - Jimmy Fallon dancing on tops of cars for a Pepsi commercial. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Wait, what? Coca-Cola Blak? What the hell is that? I live in a test market city and usually hear about these things but this one is new to me. Huh. My commercial viewing habits haven't been the same since I got a DVR.

Coca-Cola Blak: Reason #213 why I'm a Pepsi drinker.
No Touching
It seems that in recent years, instead of trying to come up with interesting new beverages, the top two soda companies have just been adding crap to their main brands. What's worse, whenever one comes out with something, the competitor immediately rips it off.

Despite being tired of this concept (and likely mostly Pepsi products), I do have to give it to Coca-Cola for having one of my favorite commercials from the last year: the Coke with Lime ad that changed the lyrics of Harry Nielson's classic into "put the lime in the Coke, you nut." It was so dorky, but at the same time a rare case of a company messing with the lyrics of a song and having it not only work but be memorable.

Anyone else seen the Eva Longoria in a Pepsi ad where she's walking around all wet? I've only seen it on the Spanish networks. Her Pepsi ads always catch me off guard for some reason.

The new diet Dr Pepper ad is my favorite thing ever. It shows the soda in all these weird places: a gumball machine, a pastry shelf, a candy bowl. The point being, I guess, that it is sweet and awesome. Which is true. The look on that guy's face as he starts to unwrap his candy soda always makes me happy.

You aren't wrong. When you catch it again, notice the woman who dances with him before he tosses her up in the air.

It's Parker Posey.

It's cute, it made me laugh.

Mountain Dew: Master. It's pretty good. (edit:the ad is good, that is! I would never willingly come in contact with the drink.)

Because that stuff is effective as hell. One bottle, and I am wide awake, focused, and not shakey for about 7 hours. I don't know if it is the caffeine, the carbonation, the sugar, or if they have hit the right combo of the three, but that stuff is magic.

Back to TV, I do think the "Lime in the Coke, you nut" ads from last year were effective. In any event, I listened to them over and over trying to decipher the lyrics, having never heard the original song, and I found myself repeating them at inopportune times.

But does it taste good? Watching the commercial, I just couldn't imagine that it would.

I bought a pack of it a couple of months ago, and I thought it tasted good. Not as acidic as I expected.

It tastes exactly like espresso and Coke, so if you don't like the components you probably won't like the beverage. It is more filling than Diet Coke but less than a regular pop. Has that slightly bitter taste that coffee does, but somewhat muted. The mouthfeel is also somewhere between diet and regular pop in terms of "heaviness."

I am pretty sure that vitamin water is considered a soft drink. I can to stand that new vitamin water commercial with Kelly Clarkson. Its not Kelly's fault per say, its that annoying blond guy in the commercial. He just grates.

Isn't Mountain Dew green? It always reminds me of Slurm from "Futurama." And if you know where Slurm comes from, you won't want to drink it.

Mountain Dew always reminds me of Ecto-Cooler, a version of Hi-C from the early 90's that was based on that slimy thing from Ghostbusters.

Actually Mountain Dew looks suspiciously like Promicin (you have to watch The 4400 to get that one.) Before that show, I considered Dew to be the closest thing to nuclear waste that I would ever see.

I'm not quite sure why, but I really like the new Diet Dr. Pepper ad where the soda "walks" around to the Cheers theme song until it finds its way into the candy aisle where it is welcomed and feels at home.
Leelee51
I love that commercial. The soda trotting around is pretty cute and I like that the other items on the shelves bow down to it. I actually had a Diet Dr. Pepper at lunch today in honor of that commercial!
mojoween
I like that ad too. My favorite part is where the six-pack scampers past the security guard.

I still don't think like Diet Dr. Pepper tastes just like regular Dr. Pepper, though.

I loved the Tom Jones "Help Yourself" commercial (where the Diet Dr. Pepper is in candy dishes, gumball machines, turns up as a cake slice, etc.), as well as this one.

The "Chocolate Cherry Diet Dr. Pepper"? Gross.

I actually like Mountain Dew, but I do think of Slurm just about every time I drink it. I am pretty sure the Futurama writers were not so subtly implying a relationship between Slurm and Mountain Dew.

I always thought that Mt. Dew looked like antifreeze. Maybe that's just me?

I have to admit, though, that Mt. Dew commercials are always pretty forward-thinking. I miss the old ones though, from the 70's.
cheryl1213
After their latest ad related to their giveaways, I'm quite glad I don't drink Pepsi. If I did, some huge made-from-different-stuff monster creature might appear at my doorstep.

Or worse....a popstar.

Matt Groening apparently had some strong opinions about Mountain Dew. From his other show:
Homer: Now what do you have to wash that awful taste out of my mouth?
Vendor: Mountain Dew or crab juice.
Homer: Blecch! Ew! Sheesh! I'll take a crab juice.

Has anyone seen the Kelsey Grammer-as-Frasier commercial for Dr. Pepper yet?

Re: the earliest posts in this thread: I miss Coke Blak... I don't know if it's still sold down in the States or if it's completely off the market, but I never see it here, and I was a big fan... at one point, my locak drugstore was actually selling it at 'a 4-pack for a buck', I assume because they were either overstocked, or pulling the product for whatever reason.

Topic? Mountain Dew commercial... the people drink it, start glowing, and a bug flies up to/lands on one of them and basically explodes. Tell me I imagined this...

Bringing back a dead thread much?

Coke Blak was yummy to me.
OmegaX123
wow, didn't notice the date of the last post...

ETA: On another note, those Diet Dew commercials... Dunno if those should go here or in the Horrifying Commercials thread (or at least the one I have in mind), but overall they're just soft-drink commercials, so here goes... WTF is up with those, especially the 'cold air can cause bad dreams' one? Or did I just dream that one (since I can't find it online anywhere, being talked about or as a video), which might lend credence to its assertion...
