Animals = good commercials.

Except for the bears. Never the Charmin bears.
scair
Awww, I like the Charmin bears! And generally I think the Budweiser Clydesdale commercials are hokey and they do not move me. Yes, even the one with the little baby Clydesdale.
Paws
But the Charmin bears are so cute!! They're bears, so of course they have to shit in the woods. That doesn't preclude them from needing something soft on their butts. Think of all the soft white bunnies that would defiled instead if Charmin weren't available! And they do the cha-cha dance!

On the other hand, I still haven't fully warmed up to Snuggle, the fabric softener bear, and it's been about 25 years since they came out with him.

I love the California cows. (And really, happy cows come from California? Is this because it's too cold in Wisconsin?)

My favorite is the one where the bulls lost their ball, and the cows wouldn't give it back until the bulls talked about how awesome the cows are.
Bb
Paws, I thought it was just my cold, mean heart...I never liked Snuggle. He tries too hard.

California cows even like earthquakes! Cracks me up...
Hello Ball
The California Cow TV commercials irritate me, only because they aren't as funny as the radio ads.
LizDC
You can't go wrong with putting weiner dogs in commercials. The PetSmart commercial makes me happy.

I can't stand that stupid little Snuggle bear either.

They already have something soft on their butts: The poop they have all over them from going while they sit on the ground. If the ad agency wants anthropomorphic bears, fine, but if they can have toilet paper, they should have toilets, and they don't, which bothers me to no end.
chipper
I have always loved the kittens in the Royale toilet tissue ads. Now there's a way to sell tissue, have soft, white kittens running around being cute and fluffy. Doesn't seeing that make you want to go to the toilet just to wipe your butt?
McKay

There is a loud choral "squee!" coming from my apartment when we see that commercial. The dog just looks so pleased. The best, though, was the cell phone service ad where the guy ended up with a hundred dachshunds instead of a hundred oxen. Little weiner dogs in yokes! Weiner dog stampede! It was genius.

I don't even remember the brand of toilet paper, but the "talking" Labrador puppy ("Lab tested!" *groan*) is the cutest thing in the world. I love that they didn't do the freaky mouth animation, and he just makes me laugh with how rolly and bouncy he is.
scair
The Snuggle bear creeps me out because of that one commercial where he watches a woman in a swimming pool like a freaky little stalker. And I also love the Dachsund commercial, particularly the part where the clerk picks up and scans the dog along with the new toy.
The Librarian

"Do you wanna marry a cow?"

A favourite cat commercial of mine is the fabulous EDS cat herding commercial. Found a copy of it online at YouTube.
McKay
So many kitties! That's great. I love the big fluffy Persian up in the saddle in the beginning - looks like my cat would if someone dyed him!
Sandman87
My favorite CA cows commercial? "Hit the snooze."
daisycat71
I also like the calico copy cat working on a painting in the Staples commercial.
LizDC
Another awesome PetSmart commercial with a Great Dane (I think - anyway, it's a big dog).
xaxat

I'm a dog person and even I like that cat. I keep thinking screw the Easy Button, that cat has mad skillz!

I'm partial because that I have a weiner dog that looks a lot like the one in the commercial. So much so that I got suckered into going out and buying my guy a "bobo," but apparently where TV dog and mine differ is in their eagerness to chew and unstuff toys! Bobo didn't make it through the night - he never had a chance...
Kwyjibo
I love the Coca Cola polar bears. I know they are animated, but they look so realistic, and so damn cute.

There was one commercial that ran quite a while ago-my memory of it is vague. It involved a little polar bear sliding down a slope to get to a another small polar bear and a bigger one. I assumed they were family, but I'm also a sentimental nut sometimes.
FfrauleinN
I loooove the Staples copycat. He's so committed to his project. And the way he tells the guy "Mrowr" as if to reassure him is insanely cute.

If the ad agency wants anthropomorphic bears, fine, but if they can have toilet paper, they should have toilets, and they don't, which bothers me to no end.
Yes! Hate! They can't decide how graphic they should get which leaves a lot of questions unanswered. The bears want to use toilet paper, but they don't want to wear pants? Where does the toilet paper go when they're done using it? I know you can only get so much privacy in the forest, but why are they pooping together? So many things are wrong with this ad.
Cherry Wire

That's one of the best cat ads I've seen (and there have been many good ones). You've got to love the industrious look on the cat's face as he paints away. My cat has that same expression sometimes, but only when he's doing something like digging up my potted plant.

So many of which I hadn't even considered. So, thank you for that.

"Do you wanna marry a cow?"

Unless they are gay bulls, of course they want to marry a cow. That is the lamest taunt ever!

I miss the Budweiser dalmatians, where one went off to Bud and the other to a firehouse and they reconnected years later.
Mibbitmaker
There's an ad for kitty litter, I don't remember the brand, where the idea is to have cats raise their paws not unlike a student at school. But they all look like they're giving Nazi salutes! I can imagine the ad running with the soundtrack of '30s Germans chanting, "Sig Heil".

So wrong, and yet so....... wrong.

I think it's Fresh Step. And believe me, you are not alone in picturing them as little Nazi cats. Funny, and yet, disturbing.

That Staples copy kitty looks very into her job.
TraceyBee
I don't drink Budweiser, but I love the Clydesdales. The newest Super Bowl one, with the baby Clydesdale pulling the wagon (with a little help from the big guys) is adorable.

There are not nearly enough weiner dogs on tv. More is better when it comes to weiner dogs.

Fluffy the Copy Cat is adorable. Since she hits the "Easy" button at the end of the commercial, I assume that she is now the official easy-button-pusher at that company (as opposed to being laid off since her painting skills are no longer required).
Melina Detroit
Does anyone remember a cell phone commercial awhile back that featured a chameleon? Or was it a lizard? I remember just loving it but can't remember the details. (My kids say I have a bad "remembery.")

I love animals in commercials, live ones anyway. (I mean as opposed to cartoons.) The fluffy white kittens, any kind of puppy, and I'm particularly fond of monkeys in commercials. They always make me laugh. (Very non PC, I know.)

The TP bears? Ick.
Rwrap257
I'm still a big fan of the dog treat commercials where the dog would have an ADHD attack over the bacon treats

BACON BACON BACON ITS BACON!!!!!!!!!!!
Bb
We just put some bacon in our dogs' breakfasts last week and laughed our asses off at their reaction...very much an "it's bacon!!!" response.

The Snuggle bear creeps me out because of that one commercial where he watches a woman in a swimming pool like a freaky little stalker.

As the Snuggle bear hater, I'm with you on this, but I had to have grudging respect for the concept because it looks like a take-off on a Chanel commercial I loved as a kid. Hmmm... I wonder if I could find that. Anyway, it's a shame they had to reference a 20 year old commercial because I'm sure quite a few people don't remember the Chanel ad.
WhyTheLongFace
Ack! I'm still trying to get the hang of all these mini-threads in the Commercial section. I've been away too long.

I posted my love for the Staples "Copy Cat" ad in the "Commercials We Love" thread. So I'll just say in here that it's my new fave, too. It has replaced the Tidy Cats spot, where they have a party, and one cat is scratchin' on the turntables.

Mrowr.
LizDC

Very true. Especially stampeding weiner dogs in cell phone commercials.

My favorite part of that commercial was always the cat with the lampshade on its head.

There's a new K9 Advantix commercial with a singing lab puppy, but a different song: "there ain't no bugs on me". Artistic cats, weiner dogs, and singing puppies--does it get any better?
arlycat
I like all the Pedigree commercials with Duchovny doing the voice-overs. The new one is good, but I miss the "We're for puppies" one. Pedigree should recycle that one.
JodithGrace
I just adore the singing lab puppy, "There ain't no bugs on me..there may be bugs on somma you mugs, but there ain't no bugs on me." He is so cute and with such a sweet voice.
emma675
There's a new Pedigree spot out! It's basically the same premise as the "we're for dogs" spots, but with new dogs and it's talking about some kind of new flavored food. My faves are the dog who is lying on his back and waving his paws in the air, the dog staring intently at the grill, and the dog who does a flying leap into the swimming pool. So good.
I melted, yet again.
jenny777
Did anyone see the commercial with the poor slob who goes EVERYWHERE with his cat..including the movies??? I think the commercial is for a cat litter tray or something. I love cats, and even have a couple but something about that guy going about town with his cat (crusing in his car...laughing at the movie "Claws") was kind of disturbing....if anyone needs to register with E Harmony.com he does!!!!!!! (male, 30 something must love cats!)
stationwagonmum
Bb do you mean the Chanel ad where the wolf is following red riding hood at Christmas???
bugiddle
I love the commercial (I think it's for a vacuum cleaner or steam cleaner?) where the lady is running a doggie daycare. She's reading a story to the dogs about a mailman and dog who become friends, and she reprimands that tiny dog (is it a chihauhau? I can't remember...) because he apparently peed on the carpet. ("Mr. Jiggles!" and he answers with a low, shamed growl.)

I also miss those classic Morris the Cat commericials for Nine Lives cat food. Such a finicky cat - I love his looks of disgust as the lady tries to get him interested in various things. It's similar to the look of disgust my cat gives me when I bring out a half-eaten pouch of kitty food from the fridge! (Even cats hate leftovers, I guess.)

I also love that Staples commercial with the painting copycat. (I actually have a satirical book entitled "Why Cats Paint" with posed kitties working on various masterpieces, and descriptions of what has motivated them to paint in their lives. It's a riot.) I've only seen that commercial once, though! Guess I'm not watching the right programs...

I love that ad! But the best part is the barky little JRT at the end. "Use your indoor voice!" *tiny woof!*

Didn't there used to be a car commercial where a dog compels his owner to take him for a drive at night? Then along the way, they keep picking up the dog's canine buddies. It ends with the dogs kicking the guy out of the car so they can fit another dog in. I'm starting to think I imagined it because I haven't seen it in so long.

I love the dogs in one of the Geico ads, where it's slo-mo shots of them sticking their heads out of car windows, the wind ruffling their ears as they stare in amazement at something. Cut to the gecko, sitting in another car, strapped into the seat. I could take or leave the gecko, but the dogs are adorable.
Corcat
I like whenever I go out west, the MTS bison (Manitoba Telephone System). Just two bisons out on the range talkin' 'bout stuff.

:)

I remember that! I think it was for Nissan.

You blew it, Emma - just think of the fun we all could've had denying its existence and questioning poor Cyb's mental state...

But now we've let Cyb off the hook, that was one of my favorites too. And I can't enjoy the cute Geico ad dog because of that irritating whistling that they ruin it with - even with the mute button pressed, just seeing the dog brings up the annoying sound.
Staleepisode
Okay, they're not Geckos or Dachshunds or Clydesdales, but I relly like The Slowskis, the turtle couple who don't have fast internet connections. The latest commercial shows them in the bedroom and I think Mr. Slowski is starting to get ideas....
McKay
Aw, I love the Slowskys! "My middle name is Matthew" cracks me up every single time for some reason. The voices are so perfect.
EileenH
Well, this is some prime kitty cuteness.

I want to buy that brand of cat food, even though I don't have any cats and don't live in the country that this ad airs in.
Sunwise
What is the deal with those stupid "happy cows" selling their "California cheese"? I really don't get it. I'm not a big fan of the whole talking animal genre of commercials. The cows didn't bother me at first, but as the series of commercials went on and on, I started getting real sick of them. Now I just think they're smug cow bastards!

I'd still choose a Wisconsin or Vermont cheese over California, anyway. What does the state's weather have to do with it?
