Talk about the Rembrandts (love 'em or hate 'em), REM, Hootie (and his Blowfish), and all the other giants of 90s soft rock that made up the music of our sextet's lives.

My favorite musical moments? Phoebe teaches Chrissie Hynde how to sing "Smelly Cat" and Phoebe and her ex-singing partner (E.G. Daily) do commercial jingles.
sjbrown25
Oh, Ross's "sound." I wish I could be a musical ingenue like him!

Electrifying .... infinite time-ime-ime-ime...
tamarai
"There is no top. That's the beauty of 'Smelly Cat.'"

Yet another quote I use in daily life. Yes, mr. tam and I have a very strange daily life.
FfrauleinN
My favorite Phoebe song is the one she writes after E.G. Daily's character leaves her to do the commercial:

"Jingle bitch screwed me over!
Go to hell, jingle whore!
Go to hell, go to hell
Go to hell hell hell!"

Awesome. I also love when Phoebe's singing the inappropriate songs to the children: "Then the farmer comes along, and hits him on the head, and that's how we get hamburgerrrr!"
Dandesun
Ross' "sound" was hysterical. I think the best part of it was that Phoebe was such a fan of it. "Look at him go!"

I do like Phoebe's 'Jingle Whore' song but I do think my favorite of hers was:

I found you in my bed
How'd you wind up there?
You are a mystery
Little black curly hair
Little black little black little black little black
Little black curly hair

Favorite of all time is Phoebe's Christmas Song:

Went to the mall
Sat on Santa's lap
Asked him to bring my friends all kinds of crap
He said all you have to do is write them a song
You haven't heard it yet, so don't try to sing along
No don't sing along....

Monica, Monica
Have a happy Hanukkah
Saw Santa Claus
He said "Hello to Ross
And please tell Joey
Christmas will be snowy-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
And Rachel and Chandler-er-er
blah blah blah andler-er-er"
Imogen
I loved it when Rachel sang 'Copacabana' at Barry and Mindy's wedding. Awesome.
Morning Angel
One of my favourite musical moments is when Terry hires Stephanie to replace Phoebe at Central Perk, and Pheebs starts singing on the sidewalk in front of Central Perk. When someone opens the door, you hear: "Terry's a jerk, and he won't let me work, and I hate Central Perk!", and then "You're all invited to bite me." That makes me laugh every time. Plus, I love Rachel's and Phoebe's discussion of Smelly Cat.

The songs in The One After The Superbowl are also great.

The cow in the meadow goes moo.
The cow in the meadow goes moo.
Then the farmer hits him on the head and grinds him up,
And that's how we get hamburgers.
Nooowww, chickens!

I've always liked the song Phoebe sings in TOW That Could have Been II.

It only takes two heart attacks to finally make you see…
One of them won’t do it, but the second one will set you free
Tell all your hate and anger, it’s time to say good-bye…
And that is just what I will do, soon as those bastards I work for die!
La, la-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la……
steph86
I can't remember the words of it right now, but one of my favorite Phoebe songs is the one about Ross, Rachel, and Julie.
LuneeVee
The one about Ross, Rachel and Julie is my favorite Phoebe song. No matter how many times I see it I have to laugh at the Lu-ulie part.

There was a girl, let's call her Betty
And a guy, let's call him Neal
Now, I can't stress this point too strongly
This story isn't real...

Now our Neal must decide
Who will be the girl that he casts aside
Will Betty be the one who he loves truly
Or will it be the one who we'll call Lu-u-lie...

He must decide, he must decide
Even though I made him up
He must deci-i-ide.

My favorite Phoebe song is still The Shower Song:

I'm in the shower and I'm writing a song
Stop me if you've heard it.
My skin is soapy and my hair is wet
And tegrin spelled backwards is nirget.

And of course:

Lather, rinse, repeat,
and lather, rinse, repeat...
as needed!

Of course Ross' "sound" was great, but I also love when Ross was practicing the bagpipes, and he practiced for Monica and Chandler's wedding in front of all the Friends. That was funny on it's own, but when Phoebe starts singing along, I always lose it...so hilarious!!!!

Does anybody here love the Friends soundtrack as much as I do? I listen to it all the time, and I think it's one of the best soundtrack albums out there. I actually love the Rembrandt's song I'll Be There For You (the extended version) and it also has Hootie and the Blowfish, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Barenaked Ladies, R.E.M. and other 90's bands that I love love love love love.

I was never as big a fan of the second album, but this first one is a classic.

I am guilty of singing this song to my 1 year daughters at least once a week! But they like it and it gets boring singing the same old nursery rhymes. I skip the bisexuals song though.
tennyoaisu
One of my favorites is the one Pheobe sings when they're trapped in the broom closet. "And they found their bodies the very next day..." It's just one line, but her delivery is so perfect.
Frelling Tralk
someone opens the door, you hear: "Terry's a jerk, and he won't let me work, and I hate Central Perk!", and then "You're all invited to bite me." That makes me laugh every time.

And when she sings, "I don't need your charity", but then right after she thanks someone really sweetly for leaving a tip. Hee!

"Copacabana" is on the must-play list at my wedding reception next month just as a tribute to this.

LOL, whenever I hear any of these songs I think of that album and how we played it endlessly my freshman year of college. We ALL owned it. The show was just huge then... one of the big bonding moments for my freshman hall was when we gathered in the dorm common room and saw Ross and Rachel's first kiss (early season 2) and rewound and rewatched it like 20 times.
FfrauleinN

No don't sing along....
Hee. I love bossy Phoebe!

Oh. My. God. That is one of my all-time favorite Friends moments. Just ... I can't even put into words how funny that is. I think the best part is that when Phoebe starts "singing" it looks like Schwimmer wants to break character and laugh so bad.
Backstagebear
What ep is that in? I admit I stopped watching when Rachel and Joey hooked up ('cuz I was afraid that Ross and Monica were next).

Jennifer Aniston practically does! Her "Oh my gosh!" look of surprise and then repressed mirth is so classic. It makes me wonder if Lisa was actually supposed to sing the words and then busted out with that "Splash"-sounding screeching noise instead.

Backstagebear, the scene we're referring to is from #715 - TOW Joey's New Brain.
Dandesun
There were clips in the gag reels from that season that showed that they all busted up laughing in the midst of Phoebe's "singing along" at least once.

Which doesn't surprise me because that was some hilarious shit.
Reny Sue
I don't see Jennifer cracking up at that out of character. Who WOULDN'T want to laugh at that?
cggb
During the middle seasons (or around that time), one of the recurring musical snippets to transition between scenes appears to be a direct lift of the main riff from CCR's "Born On The Bayou". I've always thought that was cool.
Pooki
"There is no top. That's the beauty of 'Smelly Cat.'"

I love that scene (although I understand that Chrissie Hynde wasn't that keen to be on the show from an interview I read with her), but even more I love the one where Phoebe does 'Smelly Cat' with Chris Isaak, that was so cute: 'Er, you might want to pick a more masculine note...'
da mihi virgum
What is the line just before "...and the rats all played maracas"? It's been going through my head all week, and making me snicker.
theWoebegone
Something like, "...and the crusty old man said, 'I'll do what I can.'"
da mihi virgum
Ah, thanks. One of the more complicated songs :D
pomme de terre
I personally liked Ross's childhood drag queen repetoire:

I am Bea
I drink tea
Won't you dance around with me?
musiqindee
My two personal faves have got to be....

My favorite shoes so good to me

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMMA!
Backstagebear

"There is no top. That's the beauty of 'Smelly Cat.'"

It's funny cuz it's true. ;-)

Driving home from work today, the local station plays "Baby Got Back".
Is it wrong that I now associate that with two of. the. whitest people ever? LOL!!

I know! The same thing happened to me -- it's freaky.

You can't forget:

New York City has no pow-errr
And the milk is get-ting sou-r
But for me it is not scare-ey
Because I stay away from daiiirrrRRRyyy...
La la la luluhluhluh luh la la...

From TOW the Blackout. I also love that bit because Ross has the cat on his head and is running around outside with Rachel chasing him as the other oblivious friends sing "On top of the world lookin' down on creation.." it's just so, so perfect.

This show does so many great moments with songs.
kitkatchocolat
My all-time favorite song of Phoebe's is the Holiday one...

"Monica, Monica, have a happy hannukah... saw Santa Claus, he said hello to Ross. And please tell Joey, Christmas will be snowyyyy. And Rachel and Chandler, have a eaoienglken- andler...."

I remember thinking how clever it was to rhyme Monica with Hannukah.
Gulftastic
I agree, but it annoyed that she couldn't just rhyme 'Chandler' with 'Antler'. It's not perfect but its as good as Ross and Claus!
mondlerlove
My favorite singing moments are when Chandler sings, on videotape singing Ground Control to Major Tom is my absolute favorite, also when he sings Jeramiah was a Bullfrog.

My favorite Phoebe songs are the ones she sings in TOW The Birth. The one about children and the one in the closet about how they're gonna die in there.
Hallelujah
My favorite singing moments are when Chandler sings

How about when he and Phoebe sing "Endless Love" at the end of TOW the Giant Poking Device.

How about this Phoebe song from the Pilot?

Love is sweet as summer showers,
Love is a wondrous work of art,
But your love oh your love, your looove...
Is like a giant pigeon...crapping on my heart.
La-la-la-la-la-
(Thank you!)
La-la-la-la...ohhh!

Or...

Are you in there little fetus?
In nine months will you come greet us?
I will buy you some Adidas

I also love Double Jointed Boy:

He was a double, double, double-jointed boy
hannahsweetie
Love is sweet as summer showers,
Love is a wondrous work of art,
But your love oh your love, your looove...
Is like a giant pigeon...crapping on my heart.
La-la-la-la-la-
(Thank you!)
La-la-la-la...ohhh!

That's in the Pilot? Where?

It was cut for time, I'm not sure if it ever aired on TV at all, but it's on the DVD -- they mention that in the commentary.
Rocketfox
Chandler sings, on videotape singing Ground Control to Major Tom

Oh God, I'd completely forgotten about that, and now I'm damn near peeing my pants with laughter about it!

I think my favourite Pheobe song was:

"..fushia and mauve, those are the sixty-six colours of my bedroom!"

And then how she invites the audience the count the colours of their bedroom. Classic.
