Full Version: Ryan Wolfe: Dopplegregger or HoCaine in Training?

Since he joined the cast last season, I and many others pegged him as blatant (and inferior) Greg Sanders clone. This year though, Wolfe has taken to becoming a ugly suit wearing, pompous jackass, much like the Master himself. All he needs is own version of the Sunglasses of Justice. I can't stand him.
Karoline
I love him.

I'm not one of those hardcore fans who have watched all four seasons though. And I know a lot of people hate him because he "replaced" Speedle (which I've never seen in an episode actually). But yeah, I don't see what's so wrong with him.

Like Karoline, I didn't watch the early seasons, so I didn't start with the "he replaced Speedle" hate. However, I liked Ryan a lot more last season, when he was learning the ropes and wasn't so arrogant. He's really been getting on my nerves lately, probably because he's turning into HoCaine Jr.

He's still eye candy (for me), but good lord, get rid of those ugly jackets.

I never really saw him in that respect. I actually kind of liked him in the beginning. He doesn't quite seem like HoCaine-lite to me (especially after he got that nail in his eye) but still just feeling his way. Although his way somewhat does bite.
Knots Landing
I think this man is so extremely sexy. He kinda reminds me of a MUCH YOUNGER version of Jonathan Frid who played Barnabas on Dark Shadows in the 60s. Since this is my first season, I had no clue he replaced anyone. I thought about getting the DVDs, but since the show isn't that good and Kim Delaney is on them, I decided against it.

You only have to deal with Kim Delaney for the first season, Knots Landing. The DVDs are a good investment if your doctor has stopped prescribing you Valium. Please be sure not to drive or operate heavy machinery after seeing them.

I'm not sure what to make of Ryan yet. I enjoyed him when he first started out (I didn't think of him as replacing Speedle), but sometimes he grates. I'm not sure why he looks up to HoCaine so much because it's not as if HoCaine is the world's greatest role model.

However, I'm happy that Ryan and Delko seem to be getting along now. I do wish that they'd provide us more continuity regarding his eye injury, though.

I just can't get into his character. I was willing to give him a chance when he first came on (I liked Speedle, but I never thought of Wolfe as a replacement for him), but it seemed like they tried way too hard for him to have eccentricities at first (the OCD, coming over from being a beat cop) and then, all of a sudden, they stopped. He's so inconsistently written that I don't think even the actor has a handle on the character.

I do like that the guys have started getting along. Having them snarl at each other and whine to Calleigh was getting kind of old.
FellBeast
I kind of liked Ryan when he and Delko were snarling at each other all the time.

What can I say, I like tension and angst.

Ah, poor Speedle, remind me never to go jewelry shopping in Miami. Well, that would require me to either go to Miami or jewelry shopping, so nevermind.

I love Ryan. As others have said, I liked him more last season. Now he's been infected with that "whatever ridiculous series of words come out of my mouth THAT is the answer to the case". But I don't mind the pretty boy on my tv.
chachapaula
See, now I loved Speed & when he was killed off...sigh. I was not going to like Ryan when he first came on...being the replacement & all, but I've been pleasantly suprised.
I think they just need to get him back in that patrolman uniform. Oh.My.God did he look good in it.

BeowulfGirl, with you on that. Everytime they show a closeup of his face, I'm looking for the nail scar.

I'm glad I'm not alone in seeing the Greg resemblence. After I saw the Las Vegas CSI I randomly caught an episode of Miami, and I was all, did Greg move and get a haircut? They must be related in some alternate universe.

I didn't see any episodes with Speedle until today, Tivo caught the one that killed him, so all I know is he doesn't do well with gun maintenance. I never had a chance to miss him.

Something I never understand when I watch, is something going on with Ryan and Calleigh romantically?
LisMin
Probably a stupid question but does anyone know why H calls him Mr. Wolfe all the time? I nearly collapsed in shock a minute ago while rewatching Urban Hellraisers because he actually said the word 'Ryan'.
Taylor Ann
I presume that is just Horatio's very own way to call people. Maybe Ryan is the newest addition to the group and calling him "Mr. Wolffe" may come easier than calling him Ryan from the very beginning.

And I think Horatio needs some time before he gets close (trustwise) to people - so Mr. Wolffe might be a respectful way of telling Ryan that he's about to be "let into the inner cicle" until he has proven himself trustworthy.

But it's been two seasons and they plotted together to expose the mole - he's still Mr. Wolfe 99% of the time.
I just find it weird, the only people I still call Mr or Mrs are the parents of friends from childhood.
Taylor Ann
I think there is no mistery behind that "Mr. Wolffe"-calling. Just one of Horatio's mannerisms - and don't we have them all?
MacMadame
For some reason when Ryan was first introduced on the show, I got the impression he was a relative of Ho's (or maybe a godson) and he called him Mr. Ryan to show that Ryan wasn't going to get special treatment around the department. But then nothing ever came of that so I decided I imagined it.
Taylor Ann
My two cents are: in the beginning Ryan DID everything to get Horatio's attention - even snapped evidence from Eric to present it to Horatio as his own (Episode "Sex and Taxes", season 2).
Such a thing won't go unnoticed - not with Horatio and Calleigh. I think Horatio introduced that "Mr. Wolffe" to show Ryan that Horatio very well knows that Ryan worships the ground Horatio is walking on but that it takes more than that to win Horatio's approval - i. e. starting to be a team-player etc.
I might be wrong. But that is the way I see it.

Hi All,

The schedule where I am is totally f**ked up (not only are they playing episodes out of order they're not even playing episodes from the same season!) and I have no clue as to what's going on any more! Because of this I’m finding it hard to make out what was before Ryan got the nail to the head and what was after? I saw a couple of episodes where his vision was blurry and Alex gave him a prescription, but what happened after this? Did anyone find out about it?
I try and see if Ryan has a scar or not when the episode is playing, but it's hard to tell.
It's driving me crazy and I’ve had no luck finding out as all the sites I’ve visited in my search just go on about the Hocain, Marisol & Eric, story line.

Okay, I'm posting this because my last post was lost in the Great Forum Crash of '07 - same topic and feelings, different wording I'm sure -

I'm totally infatuated with Ryan Wolfe. Maybe its the OCD? Maybe its the eyebrows? Maybe its the sweatervests?

Haven't seen all the eps, and I am no Speed-hater; definitely have the same hate-love for pre-Wolfe and during-Wolfe shows. But I have this strange, strange love for...Ryan Wolfe. And no, I don't think he's a DoppleGregger, and DEFINITELY not a HoCaine in training (creepy creepy feeling, showering off soon). He's just a beautiful man with a hidden New England accent (*maybe THAT'S why I obsess compulsively over him?*) who will, eventually, one day, MARRY ME!

Isn't that how it works? I've seen the Marisol episodes, afterall...

Sigh...don't we ALL dream about THAT. I had the same dream with HoCaine until I met caruso in person and fell from the sky...
BlueFawn
That's why it's no good to meet fantasy crushes.....inevitably those that are pretty to look at just open their mouth and ruin everything.
Taylor Ann
LOl! Would I would have known that BEFORE I went to Miami....
rimfire
Geez, TaylorAnn, I would have told you if I'd have known you didn't know. (I learned this back from when I had a crush on Sean Bean when he was playing Sharpe. Although, I have to say it never really goes away. I noticed it surfaced slightly when I watched Lord of the Rings for the first time...)

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I didn't notice Wolfe (or the actor, actually) had what could be termed a "New England accent" hidden or otherwise. Surrounded as I am by New England (Massachusetts/New Hampshire) accents here, it doesn't really sound like this region in particular. Of course it doesn't sound like PA/Ohio (where I grew up, either.)
Stachay
Sorry for the confusion, rimfire - I had recently watched Mystic River and seen Togo in that with what I suspect was his normal accent (Massachusetts). I have a soft spot for the Boston accent, and that's what I was referring to. I haven't noticed it on the show at all.

And BlueFawn, I have tragically learned that the fantasy crushes don't work out - otherwise, I would have run away with Logan from VM, Ephram from Everwood, Luke from GG, Angel from BtVS, Elliot from L&O:SVU, Charlie from TWW, Alex P. Keaton, and/or Sisko from ST:DS9 long ago!
NoDakGrl
I just started watching this show recently and frankly, it's more for comedic value. I really can't stand HoCaine Jr. at all. Especially in the last three episodes. He is such a jerk in these episodes I thought how could anybody like him? The other day I saw a repeat when I guess he was fresh on the CSI crew and I couldn't believe the difference. He is actually likeable in the earlier episodes! Why did he turn out to be such a lame jerk?
Constantinople
Are Wolfe's outfits sponsored by PAAS Easter Egg Dye or something?

I love Ryan.

I just watchd some season 5 episodes and one of the disks has an extra feature. It's Jonathon Togo with some real Miami CSI people. And, as he is talking to the female DNA lady he says " you know I wear sweatervests and very tight jackets." It was hysterical.
Cheetara04
Yeah Jon Togo is absolutely hilarious in real life. You should see his short videos with Justin Long on Youtube. He plays kind of a talent scout, its improv, and Jon is so funny in it.
