Just a general FYI: the TV Guide interview with Carmine Giovinazzo regarding the Tanglewood redux is not in the newest issue of the Guide (March 13-19). I'm guessing it will be in the following week's issue.
Pax
Apologies for following up on my own post. The TV Guide piece with Carmine G. is indeed in the March 20-26 issue. Page 33. Odd picture, tantalizing hints about more Tanglewood angst.

It's about freakin' time, too!

Media Life mag has a long article about upcoming programming changes for Spike TV. It seems that in addition to aquiring rebroadcast rights for The Shield they have also picked up CSI: NY. The article states that the rebroadcasts will begin "next season". I assume that means in the fall.

Yippee!

Carmine interview - some spoilers

This interview does contain some spoilers for the rest of the season. But it is a great interview.
Zoned Out
I keep forgetting to mention this, but the other day on the talk radio station I listen to I heard that there is goin to be this thing at Catigny Park in Wheaton, IL (a suburb of Chicago) put on by 890 WLS in July and Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band are going to play. I think you can go to wlsam.com for info on the event if you're in the area and want to see GS play his bass. :)
AimingforYoko
Once again, real life and art intersecting.

I just caught the end of an interview with Gary Sinise on Glenn Beck on the Headline News Channel. All I saw was talk of his organization, something about giving school supplies to Iraqi children I think. At the bottom there was something about GS playing somewhere on November 10 with his band, but I didn't catch where. The show repeats at 11 pm central, at least I think it's the same episode. GS appears in the last 15 minutes, maybe 20 depending on how long the interview was.
Banana Tooth
Did anyone see GS on The Late Show last night? He is SO CUTE. I cracked up when Dave said Mac's stepson would be played by Dr. Phil, and so did Gary. That would be awesome.
GoldfishGirl42
I love Gary Sinise to death, but that was THE WORST Katherine Hepburn impression ever. It sounded like Paul Lynde crossed with Janice from Friends.

Wednesday must have been CSI: NY's publicity day. I saw Gary on Letterman and Melina on Megan Mullally's show. I didn't catch the beginning of Megan's show, so I don't know if it was first-run or a repeat. They didn't go into much detail about CSI at all. I don't even remember them showing a clip. Melina did discuss her pregnancies, and having to go back to work at Providence 6 weeks after giving birth (as well as fitting in a role on-stage in Chicago in between the other pregnancy and her role on CSI). I thought that discussion was a nice coincidence, since it seems to have become official earlier this week that Anna Belknap is pregnant. Melina did say that she and the other actors are enjoying this season's focus on character-driven stories.
Ewokmonster
CSI:NY is on the cover of TV Guide for the week of December 4-10. The cover shot is GS and MK taken November 6, 2006. The tagline is "CSI:NY Sexy couples! Cool cases! Shocking twists! Why CSI:NY is hotter than ever"
Banana Tooth
The Early Show did a segment on CSI:NY this morning. I only caught pieces because I was getting ready for work (stupid job!). They interviewed McEnroe about acting, and also talked to GS and MK. Nothing new, really, but I just get all excited whenever GS is interviewed anywhere because he seems so nice. And is as cute as he can be [/fangirl squeeing]. And it was great to see him smile.

We'll know for sure tomorrow I believe, but in the meantime here is some speculation on the fate of CBS' shows and the possibility of CSI:NY getting a new timeslot:

"For CBS, a daring foray into the exotic"

They describe CSI:NY as "fading" which I don't agree with, but a move to Tuesday night wouldn't devastate me, I would just miss getting to watch it right after Criminal Minds.
Zoned Out
Okay, so the thing I posted yesterday? Totally wrong. According to zap2it.com, CSI:NY will stay in its original timeslot next season.

Also, from zap2it.com, here is what CSI:NY will be facing next season:

NBC: Life

Premise: After serving time for a crime he didn't commit, Detective Charlie Crews gets a cool reception from his new police partner and their toughminded boss. Constance is the attorney who finally manages to get Charlie sprung from prison, while Ted is Charlie's former cellmate.

ABC: Dirty Sexy Money

Premise: Idealistic attorney Nick George finds himself negotiating a slippery slope when the filthy-rich Darling family asks him to become their personal lawyer, stepping into a job previously held by his late father, who died under mysterious circumstances. On the one hand, Nick will be earning more money than he ever has seen before, allowing him to expand his charitable inclinations. On the other, his new salary comes with a whole bunch of strings -- dirty, sexy strings -- that may draw him into the web of this morally ambivalent New York power clan.

I don't know what the fate of Lost is. I'm guessing they'll hold it to mid-season. I do think they want to move it up an hour or two, so it probably won't be facing CSI:NY anymore.

I think CSI:NY can hold its own against two brand new shows, but only time will tell. :)

Apparently the London trip didn't go so well since Peyton has apparently wed someone else. Or at least Claire Forlani has. :)

According to the zap2it.com article I linked to, she married Dougray Scott in Italy three days ago. Best wishes for Claire.

I do find it funny that while the article mentions that Claire has a recurring role on CSI:NY, they say that she is "mainly known for her films Mallrats, Meet Joe Black and Boys and Girls." And to think, I didn't really know her until CSI:NY.

A small piece I ran across on Gary Sinise: CSI:NY Actor Talks About His Work with the USO

The article also mentions this about Hill Harper:

Hill Harper of CSI:NY contributed an essay to Not in My Family: AIDS in the African-American Community, with the hopes of initiating a more open discussion about the disease.

Also found this interview with Gary Sinise that mostly talks about last season so there aren't any spoilers, it's just GS talking generally about the show: Exclusive Q&A with CSI:New York's Gary Sinise

I don't care all that much about the Emmy's because I rarely seem to agree with their choices, but the nominations for this year have come out and CSI:NY did manage to get one in Outstanding Stunt Coordination for the episode "Sleight Out Of Hand." I'm guessing it's for all the magic tricks and whatnot, especially the shooting out of the water torture tank.

The whole list of nominations is here, but it's insanely long so if you actually want to see the CSI:NY nomination I think the categories are in alphabetical order, so it's closer to the bottom than it is the top.

From the Hollywood Reporter: Buckley goes full-time on 'CSI: NY'

The article contains casting info on several shows, including Friday Night Lights and Desperate Housewives. The excerpts about AJ (who plays Adam) and CSI: NY are:

A.J. Buckley has been upped to a regular on CBS' "CSI: NY."

On "CSI: NY," from CBS Paramount Network TV, Bruckheimer TV and Alliance Atlantis, Buckley plays Adam Ross, a gifted lab technician in the New York Crime Lab who specializes in the analysis of trace evidence.

There are some other details about other roles he's played and his management team.
Zoned Out
zap2it.com also has the news about A.J/Adam.

Since the article talks about a bunch of people/shows, here are the parts pertinent to CSI:NY:

Additionally, A.J. Buckley will become a regular on CBS' "CSI: NY" after recurring for the past two seasons.

On "CSI: NY," Buckley has been a semi-regular presence since midway through the 2005-06 season. His character, lab technician Adam Ross, will now be a permanent fixture at the New York crime lab.

And this article has pretty much the same information, but it contains an interesting fact I didn't know about A.J. Buckley:
Born in Dublin, Buckley emigrated with his family to Canada aged six...

TV Blend has posted a 2007 Fall TV Preview article about the show. It's mostly a description of the show and a description of what the writer likes about it. There's a brief mention of something in the premiere, but it's nothing you wouldn't already know if you've seen the promo CBS has been airing.
Zoned Out
The Creative Arts Emmys were handed out this past Saturday and unfortunately CSI:NY did not win a statue for its one nomination for Outstanding Stunt Coordination (for the episode "Sleight Out Of Hand"). What's even worse is that they lost to CSI:Miami.

Additional information from the September 17-23 print edition of TV Guide:

Drew Becker (played by Kerr Smith) is the forged documents expert. He may also be "another bad-apple love interest for Stella."

Kendall Novak (played by Bess Wohl) is a lab tech who is close to Adam.

The article has a new, fairly large picture of Mac and Stella, and there's a smaller one of Kerr Smith. KS is labeled as a "new face" who joins the CSI: NY gang.
Kerry Blue
Thanks for the info, Ohmo. I was wondering when that issue would hit stands.

I believe the photo of Mac and Stella that they're using is this promo still from the premiere. They're both looking very serious, but Melina in particular looks fabulous.

I've never seen Bess Wohl in anything before, so I'm curious to see how she's going to do with the rest of the cast. I'm looking forward to Melina/Kerr interactions.
GoldfishGirl42
Flipped on to the NY rerun last night (in between mad marathon viewing of Supernatural Season 2 with my family to catch them up in time for the premiere.) I managed to catch what seemed to be their long-form S4 promo. And I have to say, I was really pretty pumped. Maybe it was Flack in peril, maybe it was Danny hanging off Lady Liberty in that hot white shirt, I don't know. But while I've been meh on most of the season preview copy, actual footage got me really excited.
Banana Tooth
Drew Becker (played by Kerr Smith) is the forged documents expert. He may also be "another bad-apple love interest for Stella."

Ugh. You know, I find it hard believe Stella would be involved with one "bad-apple love interest," let alone another. She's the sort of person who would have seen the warning signs in Frankie long before "All Access" and dumped him to kingdom come. I did like "All Access"--in the sense that it was well-done--but I just never bought the Frankie stuff. They could just as easily have done the story with a random stranger who broke into her home. And since the Frankie incident did happen, she would certainly be much more wary now.

But of course you can't read too much into media mentions like these. He may be just a normal person, or not even a love interest. I vote he can be a love interest for Peyton.
Kerry Blue
But of course you can't read too much into media mentions like these. He may be just a normal person, or not even a love interest.

Rewatching "Past Imperfect," I was amused again by the scene where the hostess of the lock & key party is blatantly checking out Stella and ignoring Flack. This situation with Drew could be something similar, with him being interested in her and her not having any of it. Don't know how they're going to use him as a recurring character, though. I hope he doesn't end up stalking her. Not only was there the Frankie trauma in season 2, but they referenced it again in season 3 with Reed following her and with the case in "Open and Shut."

I, too, really enjoyed the newer, longer promo for the new season, mostly because it actually includes shots of Hawkes and Lindsay. I didn't notice Adam in either this promo or the one that aired the week before. I'm surprised by that. Since they just bumped him up to regular, I'd have thought they'd want to promote his role in the show. I did see that Sid made it into the promo. I'd love for him to be made a regular.

CBS has put out a press release describing the new regular and recurring characters on some of their shows. AJ/Adam is included. Here's the blurb:

A.J. BUCKLEY will become a series regular after recurring for two seasons as Adam Ross, a CSI Tech guru out of Seattle. Specializing in Computer Forensics, Ross is the go-to scientist for the latest technological applications needed to solve crimes in Manhattan. "He was hired by Mac Taylor to stay 'one step ahead' of the criminals in New York City, who often use more complicated technology than the average crime lab in the country. Therefore, Ross is the X-factor in crime solving and necessary 'ringer' to fight the most complex and sophisticated crimes," said Anthony E. Zuiker, Creator and Executive Producer of the CSI Franchise.

Interesting that they're now describing him as "specializing in computer forensics." In earlier articles--including the one in the Hollywood Reporter--he's described as specializing "in the analysis of trace evidence." And in the show in season 3, he was the only one qualified to do that new, revolutionary blood test on Stella. I guess he's just a specialist in everything. Also, according to this new blurb, he's from Seattle. In 3-13 "Obsession" he talked about being from Phoenix. I wish they'd work out some continuity with their details before they put info out in press releases.

The New York Daily News has a new promo picture of the team and an accompanying article in which Zuiker talks about the pic. The picture is based on the famous "Lunch on a Skyscraper" photo. The whole team is included, even Sid! Here's an excerpt from Zuiker's description:

"The Devil, in this image, is in the details," he said. "For example, Stella [Melina Kanakaredes] is holding an iPhone while Mac [Gary Sinise] opts to lower his New York Times. Indeed, a sign of the times in terms of technology. Paper versus wireless. Danny [Carmine Giovinazzo] and Lindsay [Anna Belknap] are sharing a sandwich, but if you look closely, her toes grabbing the cuff of his jeans signifies their love for each other. In fact, the two make a perfect heart. I'll leave the rest of the cast to your imagination."

Please excuse me for a moment while I squee over the D/L love reference from Zuiker. Squee!

The picture is small so I can't see many of the details. Adam looks to be on a laptop. Sid appears to be looking at an X-ray. Flack and Hawkes are grouped together. They're both holding something but I can't make out what; maybe a napkin or papers for Flack, and perhaps a wine bottle for Hawkes? Whatever Hawkes is holding, the color is blending into Flack's coat which makes it harder to see.

The larger photo isn't up yet at CBS Press Express or Modern Day Gallery; I hope it makes it there soon.

ETA: I've seen a larger copy of the photo (thanks Rhylee!) Left to right: Adam is holding a laptop. He appears to be staring down at his shoe. Danny and Lindsay are leaning into each other. Lindsay is holding what looks to be an opened lunchbox on her lap. In his left hand, Danny's holding what looks to be an open, clear sandwich box. In his right hand, he's holding up a sandwich in front of Lindsay. He's got his legs crossed at the ankle; Lindsay has her legs crossed at the knee and her right foot is resting on Danny's left foot. (BTW - I think it's official: Carmine's arms are now bigger around than Anna's waist!) Mac is holding what looks to be a coffee thermos in his right hand and a newspaper in his left hand. Stella is holding a coffee cup in her left hand and the I-phone in her right. She and Mac are leaning in and staring at the I-phone. Flack is holding a gun in his right hand (does he always do that? I thought Eddie was left-handed); it's resting on top of something--probably papers--on his left knee. It looks like he's also holding something in his left hand; perhaps some folded up papers. Hawkes is holding a flashlight in his right hand; it's pointed down toward the gun and papers on Flack's knee. In his left hand, Hawkes is holding something else--perhaps a scanner of some sort. Flack and Hawkes are both staring off into the distance. Sid is examining an X-ray of a skull. On the beam next to him looks to be a soda can and a fairly flat package.
Kerry Blue
WatchingCSI has an enormous copy of the beam promo picture. One mystery is solved: Hawkes is holding a flashlight and a camera.

NewYorkology posted a short article with 3 photos of a location shoot at the Met in NYC. I believe it's Lindsay, Danny, Hawkes, and Angell in the pictures.

The New York Times has a nice, long article about the show's use of the game Second Life in episode 4-5 "Down the Rabbit Hole." The article has a lot of info about the episode--including a link to a clip from the episode--so don't read it if you don't want to know any of the plot from the episode. It also contains information about how they're going to tie the show into the game:

If all goes well, Mr. Zuiker said, the episode will contain two 30-second promotional messages directing viewers to CBS.com, promising a “live simulation” letting them experience Second Life for themselves. “You can pick one of 12 avatars,” Mr. Zuiker said. “It will download in five to nine minutes. My own avatar will be there to greet you.”

Mr. Zuiker said the first level of participation, the simplest, will allow viewers to walk around the representations of New York buildings and then visit a CSI lab, where they can play basic forensic games, like facial recognition.

The second level is much more elaborate. It consists of a game called “Murder by Zuiker,” based on a murder plot that Mr. Zuiker created and the Electric Sheep engineers have transformed into a scene in Second Life. Mr. Zuiker will leave clues around the murder scene. He will post and rank the 100 people who come closest to his explanation of the murder, and, he said, the winner will “get a virtual gift for his or her avatar.”

The final stage of game play will allow “CSI” fans to become CSI investigators. They will receive a field kit and tools, get a chance to interview suspects and be given the opportunity to solve the murder featured in the episode. The final gimmick of that episode is that it will end in a cliffhanger: it will not be resolved until an episode in February.

It looks like they're not going to actually tell you if you correctly solved the murder before the episode airs in February.

From Hollywood Insider/Entertainment Weekly: Gary Sinise Gets Pay Boost for 'CSI: NY'

From the short article:
Beyond extending his contract through the 2010-11 season, Sinise will now earn north of $200,000 per episode.

So, if my calculations are right, Sinise is now signed through the seventh season.

The October 22-28 print edition of TV Guide has some more information about the October 24 episode in an article entitled "Mac Goes Online." The article is about 3/4 of a page of text spread across two pages. Four pictures of things which relate to the episode go along with the article. Some excerpts:

Lab geek and Second Life devotee Adam Ross (AJ Buckley) realizes that an oddly attired corpse is a dead ringer for a virtual character---aka an avatar---named Venus. When he discovers that despite the death of her look-alike, the avatar still exists on the site, the question becomes: Is the real-life person who's controlling Venus online the killer?
With Ross' help, Det. Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) creates his own avatar and heads into Second Life to investigate.

Zuiker says if all goes well he'll have "a Grammy-caliber artist, both on the February show and hosting a live concert in Second Life after the show ends..."

The article talks about how this episode is designed to tie into the online game Second Life. It's interesting, but I'm not a gamer. All of the bells and whistles that Anthony Zuiker's got planned are kind of lost on me.
Kerry Blue
Thanks for the info, Ohmo. Between all of the magazine and newspaper articles and the video clips they've put on the web, they are really trying to push that episode. I hope it pays off for them.

Tonight's episode, 4-4 Time's Up, made it into tvguide.com's TV Hot List. Here's their blurb:

CSI: NY
10 pm/ET CBS New
Is time travel real or just science fiction? That's the question Mac must answer when a bloodied scientist appears and states he's from the future. Not only that, he claims he committed a murder that won't take place for another 24 hours. And to make matters even worse, the scientist dies after confessing, leaving Mac to confront the alleged victim. Also, singer Will Dailey guest-stars as himself. — Tim Holland

I've checked every week this season, and this is the first episode to make it to the Hot List.

CBS has put a video up on YouTube that is a kind of preview of what the CSI:NY Second Life tie-in will look like. It looks okay and if I could I would probably get into it and try playing the game they set up, but I don't have the time or resources, so I'll just have to hear about it from others who try it out.

I had typed this all out and was almost done when TWOP had a glitch and everything disappeared. This time, I'm just going with the highlights:

The October 29- November 4 print edition of TV Guide features CSI: NY in the "Behind the Scenes" section.

*The director of the movie "Gremlins" directed the October 31 episode. The episode focuses on a mass murder that took place on Long Island at the "Amityville Horror" house.

*Writer Peter Lenkov wanted to debunk the myths of voodoo dolls, zombies, and haunted houses in this episode.

*Shooting took place mostly at night, and the show's pace was slowed in order to build suspense.

Pictures include one of director Joe Dante, one of Stella and Mac looking at a casket and a voodoo doll, one of a guest-starring character digging a grave in a cemetary, and one of Stella processing a body lying in the street. A crowd of people dressed as zombies and in other types of costumes looks on from behind a NYPD barricade.

Curiously, this is also the Sweeps Preview issue. Las Vegas got a full article about their cross-over with Without a Trace. Miami got a one-column write-up. NY got no mention at all. :(
DMaverics41
Thats how it goes. It sucks that Miami is getting a one-column mention, when their show is just now a bag full of crap. Calleigh is turning into little tramp, I hate jake and horaito.

I only watch CSI: Vegas and NY now.

The Ausiello Report contains a listing of several shows and how many episodes they have left to air. He says this about CSI: NY:

Fourteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are seven left.

My best guess: episodes 8-10 will air as scheduled this month to finish out November sweeps. Then--if the strike continues--they'll likely hold episodes 11-14 to air during February sweeps.

Here's an article from zap2it.com on the writer's strike: Strike Hangover Could Last a While: Shows could take several weeks to resume production

And here's a quote from that article that relates to CSI:NY:
"Resuming production isn't something that can happen overnight," said Pam Veasey, an executive producer of "CSI: NY," which will stop shooting Tuesday, having completed 14 of 24 episodes. "You have to write scripts, you have to find locations, you have to do casting. It doesn't just take one week to prepare 200 crew members to film a single episode of a drama."

TVGuide.com has been running a poll for Best TV Couples. Today they posted a photo gallery of the top 10 so far: Danny/Lindsay are in 4th place. They used a picture from "Commuted Sentences" that shows them sitting on the steps of the Met and Danny watching as Lindsay aims her slingshot. The caption next to the photo reads:

CSI: NY's Lindsay kept Danny at a distance for quite some time before (finally!) getting close to him at the end of Season 3.

In case anyone's curious, currently the top 3 positions are held by: 1) Mick/Beth of Moonlight 2) Bones/Booth of Bones 3) Derek/Meredith of Grey's Anatomy.

They are still accepting votes, but you have to have an account at tvguide.com to be able to vote.

There's a terrific interview with Hill Harper up at tvguide.com.
He doesn't discuss the show, except to explain why he supports the writers in their strike.

Much of the interview is about a tv special that airs this weekend:
In Lessons from Little Rock: A National Report Card, airing Feb. 10 at 10 pm/ET on TV One, Harper, who produced and hosts the special, revisits the issue of educational opportunity in America 50 years after the Little Rock Nine integrated Arkansas’ Central High School.

He also talks about his support for mentoring programs, his family, and his former college classmate Barack Obama. He also says that his new book, Letters to a Young Sister: Define Your Destiny, is coming out June 3.

Yay, Hill!

The NAACP Image Awards were held Thursday, February 14, and Hill Harper (Sheldon Hawkes) won the award for best actor in a drama.

Here's an excerpt from an AP article:
The actor in a drama series trophy went to Hill Harper of "CSI: NY," who handed the trophy off to his mother onstage.

"This is for you. Happy Valentine's Day," Harper said. "The Image Award means legacy. This woman represents my legacy."

Harper attended Harvard law school with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, and said backstage that he'd used downtime during the writer's strike to campaign on Obama's behalf.

Tvguide.com has posted a news item about the first new episode (4-15) of the spring:

The writers' strike has claimed another victim. Last fall CSI guru Anthony Zuiker told TV Guide that for the concluding half of a cross-platform CSI: NY two-parter about a Second Life killer, he was looking to sign a "Grammy-caliber" musician who would not only act on the show but "host a live concert in Second Life after [the episode airs]." The mega-producer did win what he describes as "a verbal agreement" with a Grammy-winning singer, but when the strike pushed the episode back, the unnamed female artist (feel free to let us know who you think it could be) had to bow out because she was leaving on tour.

You'll still see the concluding Second Life episode — minus the music but "with a continuing cross-platform hook," Zuiker promises — on April 2, when the CBS procedural returns. "It will be just as grand, and deepen the CSI: NY experience."
Kerry Blue
Tonight's episode made it into tvguide.com's Hot List. Here's their blurb:

Things get hotter than usual on tonight's heated episode when a fire breaks out in Stella's apartment building. She heroically helps neighbors get out of harm's way, and in doing so aids a boy who is keeping an extremely dark secret. Adding to Stella's dilemma is the fact that the CSIs determine that the building's blaze is the work of an arsonist.
