Much love for the newest Jif commercial. I haven't seen it before this week.
Mother sitting at kitchen table with two very young boys at lunch. There's only enough Jif left in the jar for one slice of bread, and if they divide it, each one is sure he'll get gypped with the smaller part. So Smart Mom says "Boy A, you cut it." And after he has, "Boy B gets to choose."
"How do two people divide a cake so they're both content with their share?" is an old mathematical puzzle, but I found it really cool and endearing to see it applied so matter-of-factly in this situation. Plus, nobody seems irritating or bratty.

Every time the Clorox wipes commercial with the mom kissing her little girl's foot comes on, I could just about cry. I love that commercial.
And even though I don't usually like weight loss/weight conscious commercials, I really like the "itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini" yogurt commercial. I think I like it because it's not about everybody on the beach turning to look at her - it's more like she decides her own body is pretty cool and she's content with it. I get the sense it's more that she just got her adult body rather than she just dieted down (although the latter may be what I'm supposed to think). Also, I don't feel like she's starving herself or like she would freak out if she gained weight.

I like the "Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" commercial too, though only because of the song. I usually don't even lift up my head if I hear the commercial, but I'll sing along to it. It's just a catchy tune.

It was a Superbowl commercial several years ago, for Geico (pre-gecko). Two guys get into their car. As they back up, they ding a shopping cart. The rest of the commercial is the shopping cart "tailing" them, including an exciting chase scene down that hill in San Francisco and a few with the cart "skidding" around a corner.
I would love to see this. I looked at iFilm's list of Superbowl ads for the last five years but could not find it. Does anyone know where I can see it?

I seem to recall another version of that ad going for the scary-movie feel rather than the chase-scene feel ... no matter how far they went, the cart was .... dun dun dun ... STILL THERE! That sort of thing. They were pretty funny.

The latest in the series of "BOLD..." commercials by Ford has really won me over, even though I've only seen it once and wasn't really paying attention.
It shows a Mom, Dad and kids, on some sort of family trip in their SUV. They seem to be having lots of fun just spending time together. Then, at the end, the Mom pulls up to an apartment building and lets the Dad off with his bags. He says to the mom, who you realize is his ex-wife, "Thanks for inviting me this weekend," and then hugs the kids goodbye. The tagline was "BOLD reaches out." It gave me a nice warm fuzzy, and I really want to see it again.

Saw a neat new (to me, at least) commercial today for American Liberty (not sure if that was the name...it was an insurance company. It should a bunch of people doing nice things for strangers, set to some sweet music. It was a nice sequence. It ended on some cheesy tagline about the company though, that I now forget...along with the company name.
I love that commercial. It always makes me feel choked up. Maybe it's the music that is playing or maybe it's just actually seeing people do nice things for each other. My cold, icy heart might just be melting a little!

When the two ladies crack up after sharing that secret, it is so genuine -- like the camera just happened to be there. Very sweet. Especially since the bribed brother ended up marrying his date!
I love the new Renuzit commercial with the Octopus mom who is using her tentacles to handle a multitude of tasks (ironing, rocking the cradle, etc.) and needs the aromatherapy to chill out. I love when the baby octopus in the cradle starts fussing and you see all his tentacles peep out, each with a rattle.

Yes! I love this one. Especially the way the first woman is cracking up as she's telling the story and then the sister in law looks at her friend, with her mouth open and then just cracks up!
I also kind of like the new Pepsi commercial with the truck drivers playing baseball in the trucks. Then it turns out one of them is A-Rod. That's cute.

Oh, I like that song too. Funny thing, a few people on this forum don't like the commercial for some reason. Anyway, the first version of that song, with the bikini hanging on a wirehanger and the girl slowly loosing weight, was sooo frigging annoying. I hated that one.

I was just coming here to post about this ad. I know what you mean about the warm fuzzy feeling, I always get a little choked up whenever I see it. It's just something about the Dad...he seems so sincere and happy that he was invited to come along. It's about time Ford came out with a good commercial.

That Ford commercial always makes me teary, too. I think it has more to do with the mom's face - she doesn't have a forced smile, she looks genuinely happy to have been with him to give the kids a good weekend - and I always think, they must've had a good marriage, and it must have killed them to separate despite their irreconcilable differences. (Yes, I realize that these are not actual people.) And the dad, as you said, Dilandau, seems so genuinely happy to have been invited along.

I just saw a commercial for Febreeze, with a mom who picks up her son's sneakers in the hallway, then starts Febreezing everything in his room. The reason I like the commercial is because the mom looks like a normal person--she's not a stick skinny June Cleaver, she turns around to open the closet door and she has a butt! It actually surprised me the first time I saw it.

I have always, ALWAYS, loved the ESPN SportsCenter commercials, and I think the one that I saw today may be my favorite.
Two gentlemen are talking in a stairwell (Why? That's not important. I also don't know who these particular gentlemen are, I don't think they are anchors, they look like executives). Suddenly you hear banging and clanging on the stairs.
Shaun White (Olympic champion snowboarder and soon-to-be competitor in the X-games on the skateboard) appears in the shot holding his skateboard.
Short exec dude: "Shaun, what did I tell you about that?"
Shaun: "It wasn't me." Pause. "It wasn't. I heard it too." Pause again. "It was loud." (You would really have to see his face and hear the tone of his voice to truly appreciate this).
Executive dude: "Get out of here."
Shaun scampers down the stairs.
I saw this commercial twice this morning and I just adore it. He's so cute.

One of my favorite commercials is the older Staples for back to school supplies. Mom and Dad are wheeling the shopping cart joyfully around the store throwing items in the cart. The music is "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" Christmas song, but the kids' expressions are what crack me up the most.
And I never fail to laugh at the California Cheese commercials with the cows. My very, very favorite one is where the farmer is trying to read the newspaper and the cows keep ringing the doorbell. I almost roll on the floor when I hear that laugh!

Already posted about it in the "Makes Me Laugh" thread, but the Cingular ad with the mother and daughter shouting at each other about the new cell phone, but each sentence is an exact opposite of what we would normally expect to hear ("You treat me like an ADULT!" I'm taken with the AdCouncil messages about parental filtering. Something like:
Mother (to Sopranos style mobster): I'll come right to the point- last night you beat someone to death with a baseball bat.
Mobster: I have no recollection of such an event.
Mother: I knew you'd say that. Here's the thing- I don't want my kids seeing that, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to Block you.
Mobster: I have offended you. Please- take my watch as a token...

There's another AdCouncil ad with a father, and what I like about it is that it's so nonjudgmental about the content. Dad says to a drugged-out kid that it was (I'm paraphrasing from memory) a gritty, well-made drama, very absorbing and adult. "But not good for my kids to see, so I'm going to have to block you."
I'm also delighted that there are two new Happy Cows ads: a young bull acting all studly with his "wingman," then turning tongue-tied when Girl Cow sashays by; and a new gal from Minnesota, who talks different and confuses them with talk of something called snow. I love this whole series; long may it last!

Nascar.com has a link on their site to find garages or mechanics in your area. They have done a few commercials before for this link that are pretty funny.
They are airing a new one where there's a man in his truck with his dog. Everytime he stops his brakes squeal and the dog starts howling. So the man thinks the dog is embarrassing him because of the howling, he doesn't realize the brake squeaking is hurting the dogs ears, nor does he realize he has squeaking brakes.
Then at the end, they show the dog, with headphones around his ears, and very happy.

I love the two current Coinstar commercials, where the loose change from all over the house gathers itself together and forms some item you could buy with the change. (One of them it's a shoe, the other it's a set of headphones). Very cool.
I don't mind them, but included in the scenes of the change gathering from places you'd expect (under couch cushions and such), there's a bit with coins coming from behind the kitchen sink. How the hell would loose change wind up there?

I love those too, especially the headphones. What annoys me, though, is how shiny all the coins are. You'd think, considering all the places they're coming from, that they'd be a little dirtied-up. Still love it, though.

I love this commercial, too, especially (a) the way he shares a little chuckle with his "friends" before denying the event, then (b) that it's the

I have much love for the commercial for MLB's "Hometown Heroes" promotion, sponsored by DHL.
The owner of a sports bar receives a package, and the DHL delivery guy says, "Let me guess--more Albert Pujols stuff?"
The bar owner replies, "He's the best!"
Then the memorabilia on the wall beg to differ:
Babe Ruth plaque: What am I, chopped liver? I hit 714 home runs!
Framed Ozzie Smith card: C'mon, the Wizard of Oz stole 580 bases!
Framed Honus Wagner card: In my day, we didn't have bases! We had rocks!
Ozzie Smith card: What?
Cal Ripken newspaper: Hey, I played in 2,632 straight games!
Babe Ruth plaque: I ate 2,632 hot dogs!(Shocked look from Honus Wagner card) Can I get an AMEN from the bobbleheads?

Okay, I'm probably a big goober, but I absolutely LOVE the new Discover commercials with all the millions of scissors dancing down the street chopping up the credit cards that people toss to them. I love the music, I love the way the scissors prance about, I love the happy people who are feeding the scissors, I love the whole idea.
The only thing I don't love is the fact that it's not a commercial encouraging people to chop up their credit cards and free themselves from debt - it's really just a commercial for another credit card. But still. It's a great ad.

I love the Kate Winslet Amex ad to death, because I love her to death, and I think it's a cool concept for the ads. I've only seen the M. Night one once, and I didn't recognize him 'til the end. I remember sitting there think "What exactly is this supposed to be selling?" and then at the end was the "Ahhhh I get it now" moment.
I like the Deniro one, only because it was legitimately "real" from him and it was well timed when released.
Also,
I love the Roaming Gnome. "Call for backup! No, don't back up!"
My favorite is: "Myth #2: US appliances don't work in Europe" "Oh, Hogwash!" <BLAST!> "Am I going to die?" Everytime I see these ads, I turn to my sister and say "I want a Roaming Gnome".
And....in the day of the all powerful internet, I can!

Great job Nike!
Okay, I think the thing with the "See the pretty girl in the mirror" woman is that she starts off singing okay, but then she just goes off-key. I know better, but every time it's on, I can't help but wonder that perhaps this time she'll sing it on key.

Exhibit "A" in the case proving my cluelessness about entertainment culture: I had no idea that was Nick Lachey. I'm still not completely sure who Nick Lachey is. I know I couldn't pick him out of a lineup of two. Unless the other person was someone I definitely knew.
I do love that song though. I had never heard it before (Exhibit "B", perhaps?)
