Sarah Chalke plays the Elliot character with the perfect blend of neurotic hilarity. Funny, I usually spelled her name with two Ts, but the NBC site corrected me:

Yay for Sarah Chalke thread! I think she's one of the funniest, if one the funniest girl comedian/actor out there now. (My 2nd in line is Amanda Bynes) And she's a Canuck to boot (speaks French, and German) what more can you ask for? *sigh* One day I'll be able to marry her :)

One day I'll be able to marry her

Not if I get there first. :)

She's one of my favorite female actresses out there, right up there with Lauren Graham in terms of bringing the funny.

I just love in the promo (yes they are out there!) how she just bites her lower lip, making her look sultry. Makes me lightheaded every time.

My favorite Elliot storyline was her romance with Scott Foley's character. I loved all their interactions at Sea World. Plus, he was one of the few guest stars that could really fit in the world of Scrubs.

I like her new bf Keith. Much better than a lot of the other guys she's dated. Plus, I don't want JD and Elliot to get together ever again so if Keith keeps that from happening, he's her best BF ever.
emmanya
Elliot and Sean were soooo cute.
"I said I wanted to put your foot in my mouth."
"Oh...that's weird."
"I know."

Does anyone remember the fantasy that Eliot shares where she says something like "and there is a crow, but if there isn't, then that is ok".

I have been trying to find that, but not really sure where to look. It was in a pretty recent episode, like in the last several months.
queenhobodonut
Jumping in on the Elliot/Sean love! And I don't like Scott Foley, typically. I wish they could bring him back, it would be nice to have either her or JD in a long term relationship that sees them experience change (and not have that change reverse itself if the relationship MUST end).

Though fewer people are commenting on it, I feel that Elliot/Sarah Chalke is toeing the line of becoming too wacky like JD/Zach Braff this season. Hilarious, but a little too wacky. I think it has to do more with overuse of her fast/high pitched voice than anything. She's always had it, but its making more and more appearances. One of the things I loved about Sarah's performance was her vocal range--it really added something to the character from her low, gruff everyday, doctor voice to her high pitched, panic attack voice and everywhere in between. I feel like we are missing that nowadays.
emma675
Oh man, I have the biggest girlcrush on Sarah Chalke. It was her great laugh in all of the outtakes on the dvds that got me. She seriously has the greatest laugh.

And thanks to her, I say "frick" constantly now.

I'll jump on the Elliot/Sean love train, too! He was my favorite of her boyfriends--just goofy enough to complement her and still normal enough to balance the relationship out. Plus, he was such a cutie.
guppiechic
Oh, I wish that they would bring Scott Foley back too. He was like David to Phoebe in Friends. And, count me in as one who constantly uses "Frick!"
Sandman
Elliot and Sean were soooo cute.
"I said I wanted to put your foot in my mouth."
"Oh...that's weird."
"I know."

Elliot and Sean had one of the best "cute-meets" of any of the characters on this show. Their mutual addlepated yearning was adorable. The wide-eyed innocent look that Foley had on his face when Sean first sees Elliot and says, "Wow - you're my doctor. I have something for you in my pants!" just killed me.
RainIsBeautiful
Thanks to Elliot, "frick" is my favorite alternate to the f-word (which I don't say). I love the reactions I get to it, too!

Scott Foley was definitely my favorite boyfriend. I love him anyway, and I loved how he dealt with E's craziness.
AmuseMe
The fantasy about the crow... this might have a few words that are kind of off but this was the gist of it that I remember...

You're a Mexican apple thief, I run the cider house. I catch you hiding behind the stone mill. You chase me into the tasting room. If there's a crow in there, fine. If not, I can live with it... Anyway, even though you don't speak a word of English, you teach me more about hard cider than I ever learned in any of my fermenting exams and our passion is so loud it can be heard all the way in the distillery... God, I can be such an apple slut.

Feel free to correct me if I messed any of it up.
Sandman
And now I'm even more disturbed by Elliot's revenge wherein she removed all the flesh from JD's apple, leaving nothing but an empty red husk of peel and a scary-looking bag of browning pulp behind.

"How'd you do that?"

Don't ask, JD, don't ask. Eeep.
vic5015
I don't think I'd want her as my personal doctor, but on the show, Elliot is the perfect combination of competence and ditzy neuroses. Sarah is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite comedic actress behind Maura Tierney (she was awesome in Newsradio!) and maybe Lauren Graham. I keep meaning to watch more often and rent the dvds, but never get around to it. Anyway, she and JD (and of course the Janitor) are why I watch.
WannaBeBad2
I was glad the last episode spelled out that Elliot was an attending just like J.D. Even though I figured she was, Dr. Kelso only welcomed her back in the beginning of the season without specifying her position, and she didn't have her own group of interns like J.D. and Dr. Cox. I kind of wondered for a bit since she left her fellowship what her position would be now that she'd returned. And now I know!

I love Elliot's character. Sarah Chalke is so funny (and quite hot).
Big Kahuna
Elliot had interns in "My Way Home." And she started wearing a lab coat when she came back, a subtle acknowledgement of her attending status.
chaseshishorse
You know, I think she's one of the best female characters on television. She's smart, competitive, neurotic and insecure without being pathetic, her clumsiness seems genuine (rather than the usual "make the pretty girl fall down a lot so plain girls can relate to her!" sort of way). I just remember watching the first season on DVD and being struck by how real she seemed, like someone I know instead of either an all-powerful-no-flaws woman or a complains-she's-fat-uses-her-boobs-instead-of-her-brain-and-eats-gallons-of-ice-cream-when-she's-dumped type.
runnerbird
I am watching the first season on DVD and I find myself wanting to do Elliot's "I told you so" dance at work, complete with running man intro. Something is very wrong with me or Sarah Chalke is just that good. I think it's a little of both.
Yannick
That dance is also too HAWT!
I agree with chasesthishorse, there is something about Elliot that makes her very broad in comedy terms, but very real and personal in character terms.
DaBorg83
And she started wearing a lab coat when she came back, a subtle acknowledgement of her attending status.

I just took that as the producers' way of finally letting Sarah's beauty shine outside of scrubs. I remember reading an article where they said it was a shame to put her in such relatively bland clothing when she's, well, a hottie!
sometimes
I just wanted to throw in my Elliot love here. When I first started watching the show back in Season 2, I didn't like her at all. I never liked her as Becky #2. But both Sarah Chalke as an actress and Elliot as a character have completely won me over.

That and her career has eerily paralleled my own. In fact, a lot of Scrubs has eerily paralleled my life. I'm eager to see what will happen to me next.
Flying Penguin
I've always loved Elliot with all my heart but this season Sarah Chalke has REALLY made me notice her. Not just her new gorgeous professional look, but HER. Elliot is just poppin', hitting all those jokes like nobody's business. And she's so confident! She's come such a long way. The moment I knew Elliot had completely hit her stride: in My Way Home when she crashed in on Cox and his interns by banging loudly on a bedpan and crying out, "Wrong-o, Perry!"

And I love that they liberally use Sarah Chalke's knowledge of about a bajillion languages.

Could we somehow include "Bankfarter" in the thread title?
"It sounds German!"
Sandman
It took me most of the new episode to realize that Elliot had deliberately misinformed Cox about what to tell his German-speaking patient. Yes, I'm dumb. I missed the beginning of the scene, and thought that Cox was mangling the pronunciation of what she told him. (Although even when she said it, I thought there was a word that sounded a bit like "breast." Maybe that should have been a clue!)

Nice to see Barbie's not taking crap from Coxy anymore. I like it when they throw Sarah Chalke's ability to speak French and German into the scene. (I think the estimate of a bajillion might be a touch high, but I know exactly what you mean.)
Flying Penguin
No, she really does know like, 8 languages. Her dad does humanitarian work so she grew up in a bunch of different countries. They were both on a Canadian talk show together once (that's Vicki Gabereau, for the Canadian peeps here). And Zach mentioned her language skills in a s1 DVD audio commentary.
Sandman
8? Really. Wow. Bring 'em on, I say. I'm sorry I missed that interview. (OT: I did see Vicki Gabereau interview Ken Jenkins - that was fun.)
Phrozen
Flying Penguin: Well, not really. She knows English, French and German, but that's it.
queenhobodonut
So, looking through these boards and seeing comments about Sarah, I'm a little confused. Are there rumors that the actress is pregnant?
Tinted
I may be in the minority but she seriously does not look pregnant.
queenhobodonut
I don't think so either, which is why I got so confused! I didn't know if people thought she looked it, or that it was rumored or what.
Flying Penguin
People just think she looks it because lately the wardrobe ppl have been putting her in those shirts which cinch under the boobs and flow out over the belly (I'm such a moron-- can't remember the name of such shirts).

I don't think so, though, 'cause just check out how slim she is in that fitted red top and grey slacks in 5.18 My New Suit. (My GOD, the woman is GORGEOUS.)
captain sam
They're empire-waisted shirts, and they're not doing girlfriend any favors. But she's still hot.
tritop
My favorite Elliot moments:
the fantasy sequence where she dances for the men in the changing room in that moulin rougy outfit and
Elliot:"You have a penis and I have a vangina." Sean: "That is so hot!"

Sarah Chalke`s German is nearly flawless, by the way. I havenīt heard it spoken so angrily since my puberty.
zekeburger
I rewound and played the scene in the latest episode when Elliot comes to berate J.D. for not telling her about the paitents birthday party to see if she was pregnant, and I honestly don't think she is. I just think she really likes the shirts and wears them as often as possible. She's still hot though.

From an IGN interview:

IGN: Have you ever participated in a "Scrubs Factor"?

Chalke: Yes. I did a burlesque dance fantasy sequence, and at the end, the creator of the show Bill was like, "OK, Scrubs Factor: Chalkie, go down to Starbucks in that outfit, and get coffee." And I had to wait 20 minutes in line in this ridiculous stripper outfit, and it was insanely embarrassing. But tonight there's one, $1000 bucks for a Scrubs tattoo. I don't know if someone's going to do it.

What wouldn't I give to see video footage of this.....:)
queenhobodonut
Awwww...I've been watching my Season 3 eps and I realized that Elliot missed her wedding reservation (April something, 2006). Too bad Sean couldn't have come back this season so that they could've followed up on her little wedding reservation in Vermont.
tonitonitone
You guys aren't gonna like this, but I always thought that Elliot is Kelso-in-the-making. From the last few episodes, she seems to be turning into quite a hard-assed doctor, the no-nonsense kind that always plays by the book.
Big Kahuna
I think that's more Elliot trying to prove herself and be a stronger doctor, than becoming the kind of doctor that emotionally distances him/herself from patients and thinks more about what's best for the hospital than the patient. I can't see Kelso making an effort to restore Cox's confidence, therefore not only saving a dying patient, but helping save someone who is apparently the best doctor on staff maintain the quality of their care.
tonitonitone
But she takes things way too personally. Sometimes all that adds up and you end up building a shell around you. So instead of getting personal and getting hurt, the easiest thing to do is play everything by the book. Besides, Kelso *did* make an effort to restore Cox's confidence. Didn't he take on a shift during the Cox downhill drinking saga? No doubt, Carla forced him to do that, but still, I like to believe the words he said came from him.
Big Kahuna
I was referring to the most recent episode, when Elliot was afraid Cox was beginning to doubt himself instead of making gut decisions, and when she went to Kelso about it, he pretty much wrote it off as nothing.

As far as the whole "I need you" speech he made, it could be argued that he was saying that for his own benefit and for his precious hospital to continue running smoothly. If he "needs" Cox, he probably has something to gain from Cox coming back, not necessarily thinking for what's best for Cox or the patients. I doubt that was the writers' intention though.

I get what you're saying, I just don't think that they're that similar, not even in their approaches to medicine. Yes, they both adhere to guidelines for the most part, but Elliot has been shown to bend those guidelines before for the sake of her patient, and takes a personal interest in them. Kelso does, on some level, care about the patients, but he refuses to get invested in them, and the hospital itself is his #1 priority.

As far as building a shell, I believe Elliot's "makeover" was her shell. She changed her appearance and adjusted her attitude to seem more self-assured and confident than she really is, even though she was just as insecure and scattered as she always was. She has become stronger as a person and as a doctor since, but I could never see it evolving into a hardassed, mean-spirited shell of ambivalence like Kelso, and it doesn't feel to me like that's what the writers are setting up.
vic5015
I think Sarah's definately the best comedic actress right now, at least on broadcast TV (I'm leaving room for Curb Your Enthuasism because I've never watched it). I hope that with the departure of Friends, Everybody loves Raymond, Frasier, AD, etc, scrubs will finally get the recognition it deserves as the best comedy on TV today (again, with the possible exception of CYE) and the actors will get some well-deserved best comedic actor/actress awards.
sometimes
I can't remember if I posted this thought before, but I was thinking how Sarah is channeling Laurie Metcalf. Sarah mentioned somewhere that while working on Roseanne she admired Laurie so much. And Laurie won 3 Emmys... let's hope Sarah gets some too.
spentcigarette
I have a huge girl-crush on Sarah. The woman is utterly hilarious. I forget what episode it was in, but the way she delivers the line "And stop putting bedpans in my locker, it makes me cry" never fails to crack me up.
mini-mart
I didn't really see what was so hot about this actress/character until I caught a rerun featuring Turk's naughty nurse dream sequence.

Hot damn!
Sandman

::scurries off to Quotes thread::

Chalke couldn't have picked a better castmate to emulate than Laurie Metcalfe in my view. As an alumna of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company of Chicago (which also produced such reliable performers as John Malkovich, Joan Allen, Glenn Headley and the Garys Sinise and Cole), Metcalfe has some serious chops.

Sarah Chalke turned 30 on Sunday. Happy belated!

Sarah at the Creative Arts Emmys.

Sarah on the Red Carpet at the Emmys and at the Governor's Ball afterwards.

She looks absolutely stunning in these pics.

Happy Belated Birthday Sarah!
jcpdiesel21
She is a very pretty lady. The side ponytail isn't quite working, though.
RainIsBeautiful
I agree -- there are too many stragglers that didn't quite make it into the ponytail. :)
Bobby Drake
I love the episode where Sarah is sitting next to JD and is a cross between Turk and Elliott when she tries to set JD up with a friend - absolutely hilarious!
blondie69
Sarah looks absolutely beautiful in those pictures. Hell I liked her hair in the side ponytail, but she can do no wrong (except for Roseanne)
