Does anyone like
The King? I imagine there's a 50/50 split in the end. I lean towards creepy. I wish I ordered the mask when I first heard about it.

I lean toward creepy, too. To the point where I have to avert my eyes whenever I see him. I still don't get why this freak would make anyone want to eat at Burger King.

Yep, I think The King is creepy, too.
That said, I think that's what Burger King was hoping for when they began making the commercials. While so many people think the dude is scary, I don't know anyone who doesn't know him. You mention, 'the scary king from Burger King,' and everyone realizes what/who you're talking about.
So, in my opinion, BK decided they'd make a mascot that's creepy, but memorable. I don't know people that have been so frightened by The King, that they've stopped eating at BK, so I bet he's doing his job and bringing the business.
But yea, he's totally creepy.

Dude, the King just is not right. I simply cannot think about this character without getting skeeved out. Doesn't mean I don't go to Burger King, of course, but that's mainly because it's literally about 200 steps from my front door.

There's a radio host I listen to out of Chicago who loves the King. Absolutely drools over him.
I was bitterly disappointed when the King made a 50 yard scramble, avoided 5-6 Minnesota Vikings, and scored a touchdown propelling the 49'ers to a victory.

I didn't think anyone liked the King either, but then I went to a Superbowl party where there were many 20-something guys in attendance. Every one of them cheered when the King came on screen, almost like his very appearance demanded their slavish devotion. It was truly creepy.

ThirdWay's Ad Blog discusses how the King's "Cool/Stalker" mystique pretty much falls on gender lines, and that this was the intent of BK. In other words, BK has decided to court the male market - specifically the "big-eater" market. What I think is unsaid is that they're not competing (directly) against diet trends, which tend to target women more.
The HoYay ads were only the original couple they aired, and I think BK is moving away from that angle. Although I'm not too sure about the new "Whopperette" ads.

I can believe he has his own thread. He's even on the cover of the latest Mad magazine; he holds out BK food, and Alfred's next to him, offering readers a barf bag.
Gender lines? I'm a guy, and I haaate those ads, though I love to mock them. He's just flat-out creepy!
The "Ho-Yay" ads are that one with the King in a bed with some guy, where the guy wakes up with the King facing him, also lying down. While I sit there all creeped out, this guy seems fine with it, and not necessarily in any homosexual way (I assume), just like, hey, cool.
That's one of the things that gets me about these ads: nobody is frightened by this unnaturally huge, seemingly botox-loaded head. The one with him as King Kong is especially bizarro world, where she actually stops screaming when she first sees that gigantic mellon. Me, that's when I'd start screaming - indeed, I fake-screamed when the woman in the ad stopped!

I'm on record as firmly anti King. He is right up there with the Levis Stalkerquin, Snuggle, and the Best Buy puppet as marketing spokeshorrors that should disappear pronto.
yeah, my profile pic is a picture of the King, which I found online and perfectly sums up my feelings about the dude. I can look at a still picture of him, but in a commercial where he suddenly appears in a guy's backseat with a burger, I want to scream. Yeah, I'm a pussy.

Wow, the King has his own thread. Dude freaks me the fuck out. Ever since I saw those date rape, oh I mean, hoyay commercials where he's staring at the guy in his bed and offers him an artery-clogging breakfast sandwich to make up for the violation, I can't look at the King without getting skeeved out.

The King is really annoying and creepy. But, I must say, he is a better idea than the ads for chicken sandwichs that actually depict live chickens -- like the current ones where at a rodeo they ride wild chickens. Fake or not, it's still creepy to use a live chicken as a mascot for a chicken sandwich. Ew.

Dude, I saw that Burger King commercial last night and it looks like rodeo cowboys are riding the Subservient Chicken. It took two viewings to realize the song was about a "big bucking chicken."
I don't know whether to laugh or insist the BK adverstising geniuses share the secret stash.

I think The King is creepy, yes, but I had to love how, when they inserted him into the "Steve Young vs. the Vikings" TD run footage, the actor completely mimics Steve Young's body language, especially on the final stumble/dive across the goal line. Good stuff.

Another King commerical that freaks me out is where this guy is working construction way off the ground and the King shows up and tosses him a cup of coffee. Then he jokily taps the worker almost pushing him to his death. The guy seems mad at first, but starts laughing...I'm like what the...? I so wish the worker would have taken the opportunity to push the King to his death; however, I fear that thing can't die.

Okay, the next time someone here goes to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, please do me a favor: Ride the train that takes you all around the park and look to the right for what appears to be the disembodied head of The King (accompanied by The Queen). I saw that yesterday and it looked freakishly similar to him, to the point where I wonder if one may have been inspired by the other. Or if they used similar designers, or something. Man, I wish I'd taken a picture so I had proof, because that's just crazy.

i could be mistaken here, but isn't the King actually an old BK ad campaign they've resurrected (although clearly with a different purpose)?
When I was young (this was the late 70s-early 80s) I remember BK having the King character and a bunch of similar food guys that I suppose were meant to compete with Ronald, Grimace and the gang.
