What would Scrubs be without all the great new songs and artists that they are able to feature and promote in an organic way in each episode? Well, still a mighty good show. But here's a place to celebrate it! I'm sure Joshua Radin and Cary Brothers will appear significantly in this thread. Music-away!

I currently own the Scrubs soundtrack. I ordered it to get "Fighting For My Love", and am now in love with the whole CD. I use it to combat road rage in the morning. Is there or are there plans for a second cd?? The musical choices are perfectly matched with scenes, and they introduced me to so many new artists.
guppiechic
I think that Zach Braff casually mentioned doing a second one in one of the Scrubs audio commentaries. I just don't remember which one. Oh, and if you have not done so already, the Garden State soundtrack is good too, but a little mellower.

My Top 10 Musical Moments. It amazes me at how many great ones I'm still leaving out. Bill Lawrence sure knows how to pick them.

10. The Faith/Beautiful Day opening of Season Three. I don't care if it was blatant iPod product placement, it still rocked.

9. Turk's Poison Dance, and Turk singing Me and Mrs. Jones to Carla. ("Can you do "Me and Mrs. Jones"?" "I dunno. What does she look like?")

8. 99 Luftballoons as JD tries to communicate with his German patient, and then TCW's ex-in-laws. So awkward. So funny. The balloons being kicked around the room and the flailing-arms-dancing didn't hurt either.

7. Leroy: The use of Away by Leroy to start both the first and last episodes of season one (only on TV, not on the DVD) was something that I really appreciated. It helped bring a real feeling of continuity to the season, on top of all of the great callbacks in My Last Day. Plus that scene in the second episode where the entire hospital revolves around Good Time. I haven't found him anywhere other than the Scrubs soundtrack (and on Arrested Development), but the music was integrated so well.

6. The Worthless Peons: Ted's band is just comedy gold. Especially Underdog and Charles in Charge.

5. Good Life by Francis Dunnery, while Cox is watching his and Jordan's home videos. It managed to end My Bad, an episode overflowing with plot happenings, on such a great emotional note.

4. Colin Hay: From the man himself trailing JD singing Overkill to his rendition of the Cheers theme to Elaine singing Waiting for My Real Life to Begin (since death is like a Broadway musical), it's clear that Scrubs loves Colin Hay, and I love them for it.

3. The Sugar Hill Gang Alarm Clock (so get yo' white ass out of bed) and Turk getting schooled by Molly and Elliott over Still D.R.E. (lo-los vs. ho-hos).

2. Scrubs Side Story: There are no words for how funny this was.

1. Joshua Radin: Winter at Ben's funeral. No questions asked for me. All of the other stuff that they've used is just as awesome, but the sparse guitar fading in as Dr. Cox's face breaks was perfect.

one of my favourite song moments would have to be when JD's depressed about being alone, and some great camera work and "come around" by rhett miller really sell the scene. and more recently, "in the sun" by joseph arthur used in Jacks baptism was also incredibly moving.
Cleo256
I love the use of Erasure's "A Little Respect" in "My Best Friend's Mistake". The moment when JD suddenly realizes he has one minute left to kiss Elliot before his timer runs out and he runs through the hallways in slow motion as the song plays at full volume just cracks me up every time. Big dramatic moment with accompanying song, yet the only song anyone can think about is "A Little Respect".
Roark13579
The use of music is a big reason this show is great, not just good, for me. Oddly, many of the songs they've used don't last long for me as listening material, because they just aren't my type of music, but the way they're used on the show is incredibly effective.

I'll also second the praise for "Come Around" by Rhett Miller. I got chills the first time I saw that scene.
Yannick
The Underdog theme in "My Hero" might be one of my favorite Scrubes moment.

I really, really like "Good Time" by Leroy. You find some crazy good songs on this show to illegally download which reminds me to make a soundtrack purchase.

Re: Colin Hay.

What??!! No mention of his song Beautiful World from the last episode of season one?

Blasphemy!!!!

That being said, does anyone know the name orf the song that Hay sings that is used at the end of the last episode of the 2nd season?
Big Kahuna
"My Brilliant Feat"
appletree
Anyone know the name of the song at the very end of tonight's rerun? (Playing while JD is attempting to declare he still has feelings for Elliot, only to find out that she didn't actually break up with Scott Foley's character.) Thanks!
blame me
Hey, this will probably come off as me trying to promote a website or something, but its not. I found this on some other board somewhere (VMars, maybe?) and it's just a really great resource for finding out what was played on the show. I hope it helps.

Silly Pipe Dreams

I hope that works, I don't usually link stuff.

Anyways, i dont watch Scrubs as much as I should, but I am definately loving this new forum.

4. Colin Hay: From the man himself trailing JD singing Overkill to his rendition of the Cheers theme

I am so bummed that they couldn't use the Cheers theme for the rerun last week. Since I missed "My Life in Four Cameras" the first time around, I've never heard it. 4th season DVDs come out when?
Roark13579
appletree, according to scrubs.mopnt.com, that was "Cindy," by Tammany Hall NYC.
Learned Hand
I ordered it to get "Fighting For My Love", and am now in love with the whole CD.

One of my top ten musical moments, for sure, is the use of that song. A second soundtrack would rule.

Thanks, Roark13579

I downloaded "Dreaming of You" by The Coral after watching "My Monster" and bopped around my dorm room for weeks to it (and I still do). It's so damn catchy.
guppiechic
I just briefly popped over to the official Scrubs website message board, and a poster mentioned that a second soundtrack is going to be released in the UK on April 24th. No track listings, or other info, but good news none the less!
ScotLot
Sorry to be all favour ask-y, especially since I'm so vague, but I'm a new watcher and am fairly clueless about the timeline of this show.
I watched an episode recently with a patient of JD's that needs a heart transplant, but doesn't get it and dies. She had said her vision of heaven was like a broadway show and the ending of the episode was her singing this lovely song. Does anyone know the song's name/ the vocalist's name; I don't remember the details well enough for google to be any use.
Thanks!

It was the actress, Jill Tracy, as well as the ensemble, singing "Waiting For My Real Life to Begin", originally by Colin Hay. For future Scrubs reference, My Own Personal 'Net Thingy is an awesome site for music and so forth.
ScotLot
Wow-Thanks so much for the unbelievably fast response. And that website does, indeed, seem to rock.

Thanks again.
Roark13579
That's where mopnt.com comes from? I figured it came from Janitor's line, "Maybe you mopn't."
blue_squishie
Ha! I just realized, the other day, that mopnt.com was like Janitor's line and felt really dumb afterwards for not getting it. On the webmaster's news page, she says that she came up with the name so it would reference that scene.

Favourite musical moments:

Sinnerman by Nina Simone (Season 1)
Hallelujah by John Cale (Season 1)
Question by Rhett Miller (Season 2)
Good Life by Francis Dunnery (Season 1)
Overkill by Colin Hay (Season 2)

and The Worthless Peons of course!
coopsydaisy
They used The Replacements' "Attitude" in My Student. Yay! I love The Replacements and it was one of those moments when I fell in love the with writers and creators...AGAIN.

I'm just re-watching S2 on DVD, and I really think that "Dreaming of You" is hands down the best use of a song during any kind of make-out/love scene on TV or in the movies, EVER! If I heard the song by itself first, I wouldn't have ever thought it would have fit the mood, but it does, perfectly! I had to re-watch that scene several times, just for the catchy song (of course, watching JD and Elliot go at it wasn't bad, either! Those two have such chemistry)
appletree
Can anyone help me out by letting me know what the songs were at the end of the most recent episode with JD's brother (think it was two weeks ago, but I just watched it yesterday) and the new ep from last night (April 25)? Thanks mucho!

ETA: why I didn't just check mopnt first, I don't know. Got 'em! Thanks anyway.
maddog162
My all-time favorite music moment is the use of Del Amitri's "Tell Her This" in season 2. It's right after Elliot says she can't separate sex and emotion (or something to that effect.) Right after the line, "I definitely wouldn't want that," cue "Tell her not to go"... perfect...

LOVED "Dreaming of You" as well...
Cleo256
That's a great musical moment, I agree. It's also timed so when the song says, "All I want to do is kiss her", she kisses him on the cheek right on "kiss". Just heartbreaking.
PittsburghDiva
Everytime I hear that "Had a Bad Day" song, I swear it was on an episode of Scrubs. But I can't find it listed anywhere. I assume they play it so much on the radio that I think I heard it somewhere else...
Big Kahuna
Nope, never was. I always thought it should be, though. It sounds very Scrubs-ish.

It's Daniel Powter - Bad Day for those wondering what song we're talking about.
Aragorn
According to NBC, the second soundtrack will be an iTunes exclusive.
arc
It was the actress, Jill Tracy

off topic, but it often confuses me that they cast someone named that and then shortly after, cast someone else to play a character named that. (Then again, this is the show with JD and Real JD on set and from the producing team that named their mayor of NYC the same name as one of them.)
Tinted
Just downloaded 'How to save a life' and how I love it. Hee, thanks to Scrubs, I've found a whole load of songs I like.
Cleo256
Okay, I just did all the legwork and cross-referencing to compile a list of what episodes and scenes the songs from the Vol 2. Sountrack are from. Scene descriptions are lifted directly from mopnt:

1. "I Want To Know", The Mavericks - 4.09 "My Malpractical Decsion" - J.D. makes his malpractical decision.
2. "Dreaming Of You", The Coral - 2.10 "My Monster" - Elliot gives J.D. his Christmas present.
3. "Our Love", Rhett Miller - 3.18 "His Story II" - Elliot thanks J.D. for always being there.
4. "Why", Elefant - {Not listed on mopnt. Could be from a future episode}
5. "Question", The Old 97's - 2.15 "His Story" - Turk meets Carla in the park and asks her again.
6. "In The Sun", Joseph Arthur - 5.05 "My New God" - Jack's Baptism
7. "Winter", Joshua Radin - 3.14 "My Screwup" - Dr. Cox is finally able to forgive and to accept events that were beyond his and J.D.'s control.
8. "Light & Day", The Polyphonic Spree - 3.19 "My Choosiest Choice of All" - Drs. Cox and Miller's patient and his band perform as choices are made.
9. "Half", G Tom Mac - 4.25 "My Changing Ways" - J.D. stands in his new apartment, contemplating change.
10. "Cindy", Tammany Hall NYC - 3.04 "My Lucky Night" - J.D. rushes to Elliot's apartment to get a big surprise.
11. "Diner", Martin Sexton - Funniest Moments Special - May 1, 2003 - Dancing Montage {not directly from any episode, at least not yet}
12. "My Brillant Feat", Colin Hay - 2.22 "My Dream Job" - Dr. Cox steps in on Elliot's behalf.
13. "Honestly", Cary Brothers - 4.08 "My Last Chance" - J.D. tries to convince Molly to stay; Dr. Cox and Jack help Denise.
14. "Sideways", Citizen Cope - 5.04 "My Jiggly Ball" - A little knowledge helps Elliot find her way back; Kelso puts on his apathy.

A lot of them sound exciting. I wish there were a physical CD to be bought, but I guess in the iTunes age, it's time to adjust. I suppose this will make me an iTunes shopper, because I need to have several of these songs.
Bb
So looking over the soundtracks, are there any songs they didn't include that you think they should have? I know mopnt has the list but for those of us who might not know some of the songs...any that were overlooked for soundtrack selection?
Cleo256
Assuming that the soundtrack's scope is a) not going back to Season 1 to pick up anythng they missed the first time around, b) not picking songs used for jokes, and c) not choosing well-known, popular songs, I think they did a pretty good job.

I wouldn't mind expanding the scope to include stuff like "Ever Fallen in Love?" from "My Bed, Banter, & Beyond", "A Little Respect" from "My Best Friend's Mistake", anything by Ted's band, or the original song from the end of "My Philosophy".

Oh, they totally missed "Tell Her This" from "My Sex Buddy". I just talked about how great that was above. That's a shame.
Cleo256
I've been listening to the new soundtrack a bit this last week, and I have to say that I think the unidentified song "Why" by Elefant was playing the background of the baby shower in "My Transition". So I suppose I guessed right that it was from a future episode after all.

Anyone else notice and can confirm?
JedB
Anyone have any idea what the music is from the Season 2 & 3 dvds at the Episode Selection screen? It features what sounds like 2 guitars, one classical and one electric, and I'm sure I also heard it played during one of the episodes from Season 2.
maddog162
or the original song from the end of "My Philosophy".

This is "Waiting For My Real Life to Begin" by Colin Hay (clever title, huh?)... and it's a absolutely wonderful song when sung by Hay... check it out...
Cleo256
JedB, the music on the episode selection screen is most likely original music composed specifically for the show. I know Season 1 used a song from the episode "My Two Dads", when JD is playing golf with Kelso and Cox. I haven't noticed where the music from seasons 2 and 3 is used, but if you watch the episodes enough times, you'll probably find it.

Jan Stevens is the name of the person who writes the show's score.
The Squish
Couple things.

First off, I think it sucks a great big dick that the second volume of music is only available on i-Tunes.

A great big fat dick.

That being said what is the song that plays when Elliot and JD start tagging each other at the end of "His Story II" in season 3?
SmilingPolitely
TheSquish- That song is "Our Love" and it's by Rhett Miller. It's one of my favorite songs that Scrubs has used. This show has introduced me to so much great music that I would have never found otherwise. I simply love "Scrubs" :)
PanicAtTheDisco
The music on Scrubs is bittersweet and used so skillfully in every scene. The music selection is so good - right up there with Grey's Anatomy, The OC (music wise not the quality of the show wise!) and Veronica Mars.

Some favourites off the top of my head are Easier to Lie by Aqualung and How to Save a Life by The Fray.
maddog162
How to Save a Life by The Fray.

Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Best. Song. Evar.
VoiceofBetty
I love the song at the end of My Bad, Good Life by Francis Dunnery. So great!
jlwestbrook
Kutless's All of the Words at the end of the episode where Carla finds out shes pregnant is one of the best song selections on the show.
lostaway5120
8. "Light & Day", The Polyphonic Spree - 3.19 "My Choosiest Choice of All" - Drs. Cox and Miller's patient and his band perform as choices are made.

That is my all time favorite Scrubs moment. While it doesn't really make me laugh when I rewatch it now, I vividly remember litearally rolling on the floor laughing to this song. Its so wierd/random (the balloons falling from the ceiling, the band wearing blank white robes, janitor tackling Kelson). Its aweseome.
