Just a question for all the fans, who has been to Deadwood because of the HBO series or who has been because of a holiday or other reason(s)?
Just to start it off..... I'm from Melbourne, Australia and have been to Deadwood twice. Once in 1989 and once in 1990 and both times were holidays, as of course the series would not have even been a dream then :-)
I took some great photos of Deadwood and because I have been there I can enjoy the series, even though I'm an Aussie.
cheers all

I'm going to Deadwood because of the show as part of a cross-country adventure this Summer. I've got Seth Bullock's death room (211) booked at the Bullock Hotel, and it's considered to be haunted by him. There are numerous accounts of his ghost appearing to staff and guests, and Spook Seth has been known to chuck things at slacker staff!
For those who want to visit the Deadwood set, limited tours are available to see Melody Ranch, but you can also go to the
Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival to wander the throughfare! That's coming up the last weekend in April. See you there, cocksuckers!

I was in real Deadwood in 2002. I was actually deliberately doing a little sidetrip so I could stay at the "haunted" hotel (rooms are $100 a night). I decided it's a tourist trap thing. I don't think it's really haunted. Maybe there have been some incidents...maybe...but it's totally played up to bring in the suckers like myself. Room was neither super great nor horrible, but right on the main drag strip of town which is why it cost so much.
Interestingly the thing I remember most about the town (other than gulchness of it...interesting topography in real life compared to show) is that Kevin Costner owns a couple of businesses including one casino. It's a little mini-Las Vegas these days, the town. Costner's casino had his memoriabilia all over it including costumes from Dances with Wolves and Waterworld.

I've been to Deadwood many times, since I grew up near there. (In fact, my family passed on the opportunity to buy up a big chunk of town back in the 70's for want of investment capital. Sigh. If only they'd known...). Deadwood now is a lot different than it was, say, 20 years ago before gambling was made legal (in 1989, I think). It's a lot more touristy. OTOH, the gambling industry provided a big economic boom.
You're right, catrina, the topography of towns in the Black Hills can be pretty incredible. I know I'm biased because I'm from there, but it really is one of the most beautiful parts of the country IMO.

I'm going in a few weeks for "Wild Bill Hickok Days". Sacred Cowboys (W Earl Brown's band) and King Straggler (John Hawkes' band) are playing a free concert, so of course I need to be there. If anyone else from the forums are going, please let me know so I can say howdy!

Still in Deadwood (leaving in the morning). Thought you guys would like to see some of the pictures. And I thought you should know that W. Earl Brown said that a fourth season of Deadwood is still a possibility and I suppose he would know. Anyway, some nice pictures of me and WEB and JH if y'all are interested.

It was my pleasure, believe me. Earl was so kind and down-to-earth, and John was so generous and sweet. I have new pictures posted including one of Earl proudly displaying his beverage of choice. Check them out if you are so inclined.

Hee! Yours and Earl's shirts are respectively color coordinated with the orangy-red canope and the blue building behind you. How'd you manage that? The pics are great! Thanks!
