The latest story I've thoroughly enjoyed is nostalgia's Notes on the Domestication of Birds, which manages to take the dodgiest of premises (the Doctor and Rose settling down) and actually make it work in a way that is utterly heartbreaking.

Also, for all the recs I've been colelcting for the last 10 months, I've been posting them here and here

who else has recs?
LJC
My fic is here (warning: story synopses may contain plot spoilers for 1st series).

Who else has been writing fanfic based on the new series?

Who else has been writing fanfic based on the new series?

Moi! They're spoilerific for those who haven't seen the 2005 series yet, though. So be careful out there, folks!

Thanks for starting this thread, LJC. Mind if I suggest a title tweak? How about, Fan Fiction: Welcome to the Multiverse ?
Crackopuff
Oh yay! I've been looking for Doctor Who fanfic and finding almost no good stuff.

Fan Fiction: Welcome to the Multiverse

Awesome.

If you ever want to scare yourself, there's some pretty out there slash! Check it out.... (if you dare)... http://www.whofic.com/viewstory.php?sid=330

Because she is Perfect in any fandom that she writes. (OT3)
James Walkswithwind

Good and most importantly LONG writer (OT3)Saganami Dreams

And my favourite in fandom (OT3)
WMR
Long storys MANY stories. Great and reliable when it comes to updates. in other words. Love her!
lacorelli
Ok, I'm going to try this again as the computer ate my first try.

For fans of the Third Doctor I'd recommend Jeri Massi's Always the Third Doctor page. She has quite a few stories and covers his entire era as well as some spinoff stories starring Liz Shaw. She has a great grasp of the characters, especially Jo and the Master. I only wish she had an interest in writing for some of the other Doctors.
cutecouple
Back in the day, there was some fanfic that paired off Romana and David Letterman. Anyone else ever see this? It was a decent entertaining series written script style, that kind of petered out as the author moved on to other things. Very satirical.
TrinityWildcat
Just written a short piece, "Father's Night". Rated G / FR-C. Follow-up to Father's Day - beware spoilers if you haven't seen the episode. If you read, please do leave a review and let me know what you think!
Raksha
LJC - I've just finished reading all of your fics. Well done! You've got the characterization down pat. Fantastic! Please let us know when you write more.

BTW, I also like your Firefly stuff. I'd read it before at some archive, but I just thought I'd let you know. I really enjoy your writing.
TrinityWildcat
I wrote another short story fic, "Three Travellers From Afar". Rating is G. Summary: In an ancient land, three travellers pass through with an important mission.

If you read, please do leave a review and let me know what you think!
Raksha
I don't know if this qualifies as fan fic, but I don't know where else to put it: A hilarious OT3 pictorial!

Because who wouldn't want to have threeway sex with the Doctor and some other hot guy? ("Hey, I'm Captain Jack Harkness, wanna have sex?")
jeriwho
What? NEVER!

(hee hee!)

(PS: Thanks for the kind words)
lacorelli
Ah, that's you? I love "The Dangers of Exceeding the Blinovitch Limitation Effect", as well as any story with the Master in it. Well, all your stories well reward reading.

On a separate note, can any one recommend any good Fourth Doctor fanfiction. I seem to have the hardest time finding good stories about him.
Panthea
New series rec: Closet Idealists, by chicafrom3 over on LJ. It's kind of a character study of Jack through time (and space!), and it features two of my main fic-reading dislikes-- introspection rather than plot (if there's no plot, I'd damn well be getting some porn out of it instead) and a paucity of dialogue-- and yet sucked me right in. Beautifully written and pitch-perfect emotion and so very, very Jack.

ETA: Spoilers through the end of the first season.
LeFae
Raksha, that was hysterical!
"Sure!" Rose says, not even needing to think about it, because who wouldn't want to have threeway sex with the Doctor and some other hot guy?
That's made my evening! :-D

I would like to present The Walnutwhip Daleks, some adventures in photo-story form. The second story contains mild S1 spoilers, but the first one was made just after 'Dalek'.
Raksha
Mmmm...the Daleks look delicious!
Eegah
Here's a pretty neat crossover with Firefly, though it seems to be discontinued. It features the Seventh Doctor and Ace, and the two universes fit together perfectly.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2709807/1/

Also, this is a great one with Two, Five, Seven, and Ten meeting the various Blackadders.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2808549/1/

Finally, I've just put one of my own up, a rather dark view of the complications when the Eighth Doctor became the Ninth.

LJC, I've been a fan since your Firefly fics so I have been checking out your Doctor Who offerings. I just read Support Undergarments to the Rescue and if I didn't love you before, this would have sealed it.

"Feet first... isn't that right, Arthur? Feet first, it's the only way..."

Robin of Sherwood was my very first TV obsession.
scair
This is possibly the best piece of fanfic I've ever read. Normally, the topic might make me a little queasy(don't worry, not graphic sex or violence, if that bothers you), but this....just perfect. Made me cry, and I don't often say that.
LeFae
Ordinarily I would balk at the use of that subject matter, but you're spot on, Scair, that was a cracking read. Great characterisation.
Raksha
Jackie Tyler in the Fourth Dimension by Cryptile is wonderful. It's a rather hilarious and very touching look at the Doctor and Rose and the messiness of time travel throughout the years through Jackie's eyes. Definitely a classic.
thedorkygirl
I have to second the rec for Jackie Tyler in the Fourth Dimension. Knocked me off my feet with its subtle nature and hidden meanings. I liked it even better on the second read; knowing what I suspected the first time around made it seem that much more cruel and beautiful.

And I've gotta rec nostalgia's The Short Revolution of Time
Doctor/Reinette. Series two, episode four, so for the Americans, stay away or something equally forbidding. Steve managed to steal all the best parts out of the episode that didn't happen and make them BITE me on the shoulder. It felt captured and reused and torn to pieced and finally pasted back together. And it was only PG-13, the whore.

and while I'm here, I'd like to rec Barry Rowland Saves the World by Kremmen.
AMAZING humor, fun, out of the world dialogue, and an interesting plot. Fourth Doctor, Romana -- who needs anything more?
somnambulist
I thoroughly second the rec for wmr. Brilliant.

I've spent many happy hours trawling whofic. Does anyone have rec for some good angsty fic?
Raksha
Heh. It seems all I can find anymore is angst. I was just coming here to ask if anyone has any happy, funny, or just plain fluffy fics to recommend!

If you like wmr, she's got a nice angsty post-Girl In The Fireplace fic up here. Made me want to die, so you know it's good!

ETA: A Sort of Man by Kate Andrews is 10 kinds of awesome. After she saw the Christmas Invasion special, she wrote this about Ten figuring out what kind of man he is and renegotiating his relationship with Rose. I think this characterization of Ten is quite interesting, although non-canonical at this point. Also, it's kind of hot. I wish this author would write more.
thedorkygirl
Hehe. wmr's fic mentions famous blondes.

Aside from that, well, I don't know. Is the fic in character for Rose? Maybe in a few episodes when she's been dumped on a bit more, but this fic feels far more like foreshadowing than current. It seems like something that could happen by the end of the season, which is suxxors and still goes with the whole all companions leave idea that is a D'UH that most people seem to forget.

I do like where she finishes up. Staying with Jack while bringing Mickey is an interesting idea! Or does she just dump Mickey? I almost would prefer that Mickey had *stayed* or even considered it before she was all, "Yeah, and I'm going off with this old time traveler friend I had to fight, like, evil things."

(this post has been blacked by the Jones administration, ys)
pinkmoon
A Sort of Man really is awesome. I think it's one of the best fics on this fandom. This: "He remembers wishing her good night, then pounding his fists into the walls until his skin split. He remembers that wanting that with the ache of a stiff, angry red scar." is hot. Really hot. So hot that I wish she'd write a fic about it. Hee.
Raksha
Speaking of hot, I found Kate Andrews' other Doctor Who fic. It's a Ten/Rose smut piece called Give and Take. By the time she wrote this, she'd seen much more of Ten, so the voice is spot on. So hot. And so cute! My favorite bit is at the very end: "We're going to be good, Rose. We're going to be so good," he says as if it's a wonderful secret meant only for her.. See? Cute! And hot!
TartanTart
Much as I like the angsty stuff, this had me in absolute stitches. '...a few footnotes in old folk legends that referred to "The Oncoming Coat".' Love it!
LeFae
TartanTart - LMAO! Thank you for that -
Captain Jack arrived. "Sorry I'm late," he said. "But I came back from the dead and managed to escape from the Game Station by charging up the tribophysical waveform macrokinetic extrapolator, using my own sexual magnetism as a power source.

I've just spat fruit jelly all over my laptop, LOL!!!
thedorkygirl
DUDE, YES.

Ahem. All I have to say to TartanTart's rec. I do think the last line is the bestest, but maybe I'm just amused by the play on words.
somnambulist
There was also a strange and almost constant singing noise, which the Doctor eventually identified as the greatest hits of Barry White on continuous play.

Ow. My sides hurt from laughing so hard! That was hilarious. My favourite suggestion of the Doctor's was "Cheer the fuck up!" Hee. Am I the only one who kept thinking about Angelus' Sexy Leather Pants of Evil?
Eegah
If you want something funny that's not an out and out spoof, check out Pick a Star, Any Star. It's an AU about Reinette becoming a companion, and the enormous jealousy that it stirs up in Rose.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2929496/1/
Raksha
The TARDIS of Babel by LilacFree is hilarious! The TARDIS's translation circuits go out and naughty hilarity between Jack, Rose, and Nine ensues. Cute and funny!
Eegah
Ha! And loved the use of The Rainbow Connection lyrics, referring to that mention of The Muppet Movie in Tooth and Claw.

For the Firefly fans, here's a nifty crossover featuring Seven and Ace. However, the author does take their sweet time getting new chapters up.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2709807/1/

And to toot my own horn a bit, I've just started one about Ten and Rose fighting the Master.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2940348/1/
Eegah
Damn.
Arania
Um, er, I wrote a fic. It's called "Dancing on Thin Ice" and it's here:

http://spiderine.livejournal.com/186060.html#cutid1

I'd rate it a hard R, Adults Only. SPOILERS for Doctor Who 2006 series with David Tennant. If you’re still watching Christopher Eccleston, you don’t want to read this, if only because you won’t get the jokes. If you’re of the opinion that the Doctor doesn’t have sex, you don’t want to read this. Please note that I am an utter n00b in a fandom that stretches back before I was born; if I’ve fallen on my face in a big stinking pile of canon, please attempt to use good grammar and spelling when you flame me. Thank you.

ETA: I'm a Channel Surfer! Yay!
LeFae
please attempt to use good grammar and spelling when you flame me. Thank you.

Oh bless!

Arania, you had me at "Rules were for wankers, anyway." - I giggled all the way through it :-)
somnambulist
Raksha, thanks so much for the rec! It made me miss S1 all over again, and I had to rewatch Boomtown. A part I loved?

The Doctor shifted aside, leaning his hip against the counter. He caught her hand and swung it. His voice was deliberately jocular, completely at odds from what he was saying. “You have the most kissable mouth I’ve seen in 900 years, Rose Tyler. And it would be a bad idea for me to ever do anything about it. I wouldn’t be able to stop with kissing. So–completely impossible, out of the question, will never do it.”

Adorable. My sentimental shipper heart can almost hear Nine say this, grinning all the while. Aw! And hee, Jack. The whole thing is just spot on.
Raksha
Kate Andrews (aka svilleficrecs) has done another fantabulous Ten/Rose story here. It's the Doctor and Rose at the running of the bulls in Pamplona in 1921. Sweet and intense. It's part of a set of stories on a theme (the other two stories are set in the Life on Mars and Veronica Mars fandoms).

Thanks to Chenoeh on the VM boards for rec'ing this.
Caffeinejunkie
Okay, I can't believe I've done this and that I'm telling people about it. I'm pimpin' my fic, Star Crossed. It's a post GitF peice and it's smut free. (I can think it, I can imagine it, but I can't articulate it without it looking like really really bad pr0n!)

Feel free to point and laugh. I won't go running to cry in my DT pillowcase... not that I have one!
TartanTart
Aaw, that's lovely, Caffeinejunkie. I quite like that it's smut-free and it seems a far more plausible an outcome than a lot of the other GitF fic that I've read.

I like!
thedorkygirl
Er, I had a whole review for Caffienejunkie's story, but the page randomly reloaded on me! I cry, I cry.

So, I really liked how you took the idea, twisted it around, made it happy, made it bitter. And...*thinks* I got pwned 'bout underwear in 'la joie de la vie' -- apparently, they didn't wear any.

OH! And -- a smut-free post GitF?! insanity! I had no idea that there were any.
Caffeinejunkie
Thank you both, thedorkygirl and TartanTart. I started writing teh smut and it just read so very, very badly... awful stuff! So I left it out. I haven't written fic in years!

eta Anyone else with a whofic.com account - Do you find that you get huge numbers reading the first chapter and then only a third of them moving on to subsequent ones? (Noooo, I'm not sensitive and needy at all!)
Raksha
I wouldn't worry about the numbers. A lot of things happen to make them like that. For instance, you got three hits from me on the first chapter, but only one each on the others. I kept getting interrupted when I tried to read it, so I would have to shut off my computer and go do stuff before I tried again.

But I liked it a lot! Mickey cracked me up (calling the Doctor "Bridget Jones." Hee!). You should definitely write more DW!
Eunoia
I thoroughly second the rec for wmr. Brilliant.

I've spent many happy hours trawling whofic. Does anyone have rec for some good angsty fic?

I recently stumbled across whofic and my free time's been flying by ever since. wmr is definitely bookmarked as one of my favorites. I think the first fic I read there was Downtime by Cryptile. Takes place right after The Christmas Invasion and it made me laugh out loud.

And Caffeinejunkie, I really liked yours. It was lovely. I liked the dynamic between Mickey and the Doctor and the parts with Reinette were beautifully done.
Raksha
Ooh, yes, Cryptile's "Downtime" is priceless! The staring contests with the graffiti face was hilarious. This is probably my favorite bit:

He fixes the face with his deadliest of deadly stares. He knows it is deadly because he has been practicing. He's had a good run with deadly stares, lately, barring that unfortunate period in his life when everyone thought he was just too romantic and sweet.

"Doctor!"

And then he'd blown his planet up. Well, that had shown everyone.

Heh.
Queenrikki
I'm absolutely adoring Calapine's "Bad Gods" which is an AU to the series 2 episode "School Reunion" in which the Doctor takes Evil Giles's offer. It's can also be found here
