This new show from the Disney Channel is about this girl name Miley Stewart being a regular kid by day, internatonal pop star Hannah Montana by night.

Miley Stewart is played by Miley Cyprus (what a horrible name), her father (Robbie Stewart manager) is played by Billy Ray Cyrus, her annoying older brother (Jackson Stewart) is played by Jason Earles, and her friends Oliver Oken & Lilly Truscott are played by Mitchel Musso & Emily Osment (Haley Joel Osment's sister).

It was made by the producer of That's So Raven.

The show will premire on March 24th on the Disney Channel.

Edit: Changed from Haley Joel's brother to sister.

Billy Ray Cyrus. On a Disney channel series. What the hell?

and her friends Oliver Oken & Lilly Truscott are played by Mitchel Musso & Emily Osment (Haley Joel Osment's brother).
Hee, I hope that's a typo. Who names their son Emily? Although they named one Haley, so who knows.
Laval
Oops, my mistake. I meant Emily Osment is Haley Joel Osment's sister. Sorry.

Anyhow, seeing the previews for Hannah Montana, I might not like it. I already don't like the older brother.
Arabella
Do you think Disney misses Hilary Duff much? Looks like they've made Hannah Montana to look just like her.
Laval
I don't think Disney Channel cares about Hillary Duff anymore. They have Raven as a replacement for Hillary Duff. Remember, it was Raven not Hillary Duff that reached 100 episodes. Hopefully, we won't have to worry about Hannah Montana getting to 100 episodes or Miley Cyrus reaching Raven's popularity.

I can't believe they kept the nickname "Miley" and she's using it as her professional name also. Her real name is Destiny but when she was little, they called her "Miley" like in "Smiley" because she smiled so much or some such silly crap. I don't know how many articles I read calling her "Molly" because the reporter didn't understand that Billy Ray was saying "Miley." She was adorable in her daddy's video for the song "Deja Blue" a few years back though.

This show sounds and looks stupid.

I'm fed up with the crap thats on Disney and Nickelodeon
babycakes
It looks like a tween version of Instant Star.
mrow
Watched it and liked it. The kids seemed a bit loud, but they were pretty entertaining if a bit community theater-ish. Have any of these kids been in anything else? If this is the first thing they've been in they'll probably improve with time.
Laval
That loser who played Oliver on the show looks like the same kid who played Chris's friend on Everybody Hates Chris.

My thoughts exactly. From the promos you can tell they are soooo gonna market this kid to be the "next" Hilary Duff. Raven may have reach 100 eps but her popularity is differerent from Hilary Duff. Duff does movies while Raven do tv movies.
popcorn
I got around to watching it this weekend, and I liked it. Except for the studio audience reactions that totally weren't necessary and the fact that some of the kids shouted all of their lines. If they'd tone it down a bit it'd be fine.

Miley was cuter than I expected and I was not creeped out by Billy Ray Cyrus. Heh. The kid that played her crush was just in High School Musical. They really recycle the actors on Disney Channel, don't they? I'll bet Miley will be in one of those monthly Disney movies pretty shortly.
whereismycastle
You know what, I thought this show was cute. You're right about some of the kids yelling their lines, and Billy Ray Cyrus is lookin' like a poor-man's Keith Urban, but the show is cute. I plan on watching it every Saturday night with the kids I babysit.
clarkins
My ten year old loves this show. You can hear her cackling when she watches it.
I do agree she looks like or is being made to look like Hillary Duff.
Raven was a cute show way back when but it got annoying. In fact, my daughter has stopped watching Raven.
RealChic1999
I saw it once...it won't be on my top "Must-See TV" list. I also think there's a Jem thing going on with that show.

And Emily Osment...you may look just like your brother Haley, but you are not as talented.
ghettofabman
Am I the only one who thinks Miley/Hannah Montana carries the tune of a blaring fire truck?? That chick sure can't sing, and she sure can't act neither. Also, something about this chick's face that bugs the crap out of me. Maybe it's that big trap of hers.

Her singing sounds about as bad as the fugs on High School Musical. Who'da thunk it?!?
MaryK
I'm jealous of Miley's hair, I have to admit. But her accent bugs me.

Maybe it's the enormous buck teeth. Seriously, why has no one gotten this child braces? I'm sure she can afford them. I do think she's pretty cute otherwise, but the singing and acting are both just painful.

I had the pleasure or misfortune (not sure which) to see several episodes of this show this weekend. I totally see what kids would be attracted to and I definitely see this being the next Lizzie McGuire and them turning Miley into their new Hilary Duff. It's bright, it's loud, attractive kids, fame/double life...yada yada yada.

But I think this show takes the absolute cake for total implausibility. I know Raven, Suite Life and Phil were pretty out there...but her own friends couldn't figure out Hannah and Miley were one and the same while staring at her. Then again, it worked for Clark Kent.

Miley/Hannah never has to miss school as a HUGE popstar and never goes on tours. Ironically, all her concerts are in her hometown. She has like no security or other staff around her except for her dad and the guy who makes the costumes. There are no paparazzi around to take pictures of her and catch her as Miley.

Yes, I know I'm way overthinking a kids' show.

Plus while I do think Miley is pretty and I agree I love her hair, I'm already getting the really annoying vibe. I'd rather hang out with Emily Osment's character. She may be weird but at least she would be fun.
Bitterswete
I've watched a few eps of this show since my last post. And, I must admit, it's not as bad as I first judged it to be. It's not exactly good either. But it's actually watchable. And the girl who plays Hannah definately needs an acting coach, but I find her likeable anyway.

So, not a great show. But better than, say, The Suite Life of Jack and Cody, which seems to get worse every time I watch it. Or That's So Raven, which I used to kinda like, but Raven Simone is now so over the top every second of every minute, I can only take it in small doses.
skittl3862
Remember, it was Raven not Hillary Duff that reached 100 episodes.

The Disney Channel used to have some policy that limited their shows to 60-ish episodes, and they got rid of that rule specifically because of the success of shows like Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens. They didn't want to risk making another huge star, then losing her contract after only 2 seasons again.

Hannah Montana bugs me. I saw a couple episodes last week and I hope to never see one again. The fact that no one can tell it's her because of the blonde wig is too stupid even for its target audience to believe. And Miley always sounds like her mouth is full of saliva.
snowfall
Too bad they didn't get rid of that stupid rule when Bug Juice was around.
Beach Bum
Hey, why is everyone hatin' on this show? I live in a house full of little girls and they all adore this show. I think it's cute! It's not Masterpiece Theater (and it's certainly not plausible!) but it's not nearly as bad as the craptastic Suite Life.

I find the Emily Osment character a bit annoying, but Jackson (the brother) is growing on me and Billy Ray Cyrus (to whom I'd had no exposure before this show) wasn't bad at all!
CopperBoom
All the little girls I babysit for are crazy over this show. I, for one, can't see why. It's better than a lot of the shows that I used to watch, but still, it's not all that special. But it keeps them happy and quiet, so it works for me.
miserlou
I just did a post for my blog where I looked through all the Disney shows, and I can't believe I'm defending this show, but it's a lot better than the rest of them.

1) You can stay awake throughout the episode so it's better than Naturally Sadie
2) Lack of Raven
3) No twins, so automatically superior to Suite Life.
4) Wait, Phil of the Future is probably better

Actually I think this is a pretty good show. Not great, but cute and entertaining. The most recent episode with the mascot was pretty funny I thought. Emily Osment is improving as the episodes go on.

But yeah, Miley needs acting lessons.

The evil popular girls are black, asian, and black? Wow, I'm pretty surprised they would do that.
Laval
Poor Haley Joel Osment. Seeing his sister Emily making him look bad with her horrible acting on Hannah Montana.

This show is very average. It doesn't have a character who is really cute (like Debbie Berwick on Phil of the Future), Miley bores me to tears with her bad singing & acting, and Oliver is very very stupid. Hopefully in the future, Lilly & Oliver will hook-up. They both deserve each other.
blaase
I am way to old for this shit (19) but holy crap this is almost the worst thing I have ever seen. Next time I babysit I am bringing dvds.
snowfall
The kids I babysit for sometimes also love this show. Hey if it keeps them calm down for a little while then I'm all for it.

Although I have to admit I did crack up when one of the girls watching channeled Chandler and said "Could they BE any louder?". At least we all agreed that they are a little too loud on the show. It's amazing they never lose their voices after awhile.
DylanMChadley
Well, I'm hooked. The show is much better than the early promos made it look. It's not Shakespeare, but it's a cute show, and I'd rather the kids watch this than some of the sleaze that's out there. True, some of the kids need more acting experience, but they'll pick that up no problem. What disturbs me is the over-the-top acting from some of the adult guest stars.

I stumbled upon some information I thought I'd share. There's a crossover episode in the works called That's so Suite Life of Hannah Montana. While on tour, Hannah stays at the Tipton, and Raven somehow ends up there too. As proof, I offer this picture.
LittleSable
I've seen two episodes of this show so far, and god help me, I LOVE it. And that love stems from pretty much one place: Billy Ray Cyrus. I grew up listening to country music, and I remember when Achy Breaky Heart was huge. He's really not a bad singer and he's a good looking guy (at least, sans ABH era mullet). I think releasing such a silly novelty song as his first single doomed him. It was huge and he never really got a chance to be anything other than the "Achy Breaky Heart Guy." But I love him on this show.

One of the episodes I saw involved a mouse that got into the piano and started playing music- he asked the mouse if it knew ABH, and I fell out of my chair. The other one involved meeting the queen, and he had the line "If there was a monster truck rally anywhere nearby do you think we'd be here?" There's a lot of lines like that that make the family, despite Hannah's pop princess status, look like total hicks/hillbnillies/rednecks- I love it!
msrayrudd
Yes, the kids are overly loud but I blame that on the directing more than the kids. Miley and Emily and the others ARE rather inexperienced but I'm sure it doesn't help that the directors (as most DC directors seem to do) tell them that the louder and more over the top they are the better. The new regime of DC doesn't do subtlety at all. For examples, see That's So Raven and Suite Life. So in that respect these shows don't exactly breed good acting from it's talent nor help to make them better.

I actually don't think Emily Osment would be half bad in another setting with a director that toned her down a bit. Miley it's hard to say since this is like the only thing she's ever done and she even claims she's playing herself.

Though I have to say if there was a choice between this or Suite Life, I would choose this warts and all. I'd rather watch these girls than the Sprouse twins.

Oh, WHY do I not have cable?! This sounds even better than the TGIF night where Salem the cat from Sabrina the Teenage Witch travelled through time and brought the other three TGIF shows with him!
laughingwithyou
Okay first of all this si a kids show and if you don't like it then don't watch it. I myself and all of my friends like the show Hannah Montana. the actors on the show may be loud but give them a break they are new to the acting scene. I know Mitchel (plays Oliver) has just started gitting somewhat known. He was in Disneys movie Life is Ruff and is in the new movie Monster House. Miley Cyrus (hannah/Miley)i am not sure if she has been in anything besides this show but, i think she is a good singer. Emily (lilly/lola) i dont think has been in any other movies or shows but if she acts anything like her older brother we will be seeing much more of her. i think we may be seeing more of all of these starting new actors (some might not be as famous as others) but I think Mitchel -who has been in Second Hand Lions, Life is Ruff, Monster House, and a few other movies- is going to be a good maybe even great actor. If you are bad-mouthing this show and your or over around the age of lets say 18 then why are you even watching Diseny Channel it's a kids channel. I can understand if you have kids who watch that channel though. Also I think that the cross-over between the disney shows, Thats So Suite life Of hannah Montana, will be BIG or at least watch by many children, tweens, and teens, including myself. Supposivley Hannah is on tour and she stays at the tipton because she is friends with London (Branda Song-also in the movie Wendy Wu Homecoming Warror) and ravon (ravon Simone) has vison of a party at the tipton and sees one of the twins (zach and cody played by Dylan and Cole Sprous) getting into trouble.
robbiefan51
Can anyone who watches this show tell me about the charcter Traci? I don't have cable and just found out that the actress who plays Traci went to middle school with me. Is the character a colleague of Hannah's or does she play a character who is older than Hannah and her friends?
paulvdb
According to TVRage Traci (Hiromi Dames) was a guest star in one episode. Unfortunately I don't remember who she was.
DylanMChadley
robbiefan51, Hiromi played Traci to hilarious effect in the episode "It's My Party and I'll Lie if I Want To." I believe Hannah Montana is available on iTunes, so if you can't watch it on cable/satellite, you can download it there. According to IMdB, she will appear in a couple more episodes this season.

The episode didn't give much detail about Traci, but she appears to be one of those Hollywood hangers-on who is invited to parties and such. It's not mentioned if she is a celebrity herself, but she knows Kelly Clarkson, the Olsen twins, and (one would assume) other celebrities. Hiromi is older than Hannah, and I assume Traci is too, but Traci's exact age is unclear.

As a side note, IMdB shows Hiromi as having appeared on Bill Nye's show. I also read somewhere that she does improv comedy in L.A.

Miley was is the movie Big Fish a few years ago. As far as her mouth goes, she had to get those braces that fit behind your teeth, so they can't be seen while talking, for the show. Bwtween that and her country accent, yeah, she does sound different. I, however, think it's cute.

My question is how old is she going to be next season? She was 12 when HM started, and I think now she's already 15. She was on TRL about a month ago with Ashley Tisdale and while she wasn't at all fat, she had gained weight and looked much older. Have they filmed it already? If she's older won't the show have to change a tad? I mean I know Raven's still wacky, but they have to do some major planning for HM, I think.
merrycherry701

According to IMDb, she's only 13 right now- she'll be 14 in November. Don't know about the rest of your question, though.

I live in Canada, and we just got this show on Friday. I decided to watch it (and I am 17... and watch way to many Disney shows for my own good) because I was completly bored. I found it unbelieable that her friends didnt know that Miley was Hannah. You would need more than a wig to fool someone.

Lily plays Gerti Giggles in Spy Kids Two, and Spy Kids Three.

I think this is one of those things the audience just agrees to accept. Sort of like accepting people don't recognize Clark Kent is Superman because of the glasses.

Dude, NOTHING was better than that.

It occurs to me that if Miley doesn't want her secret identity to be discovered, then she shouldn't sing about how she has an awesome double life. Seriously. C'mon, now.
Arabella
It occurs to me that if Miley doesn't want her secret identity to be discovered, then she shouldn't sing about how she has an awesome double life. Seriously. C'mon, now.

Oh, thank you! I noticed awhile back that most or all of her songs drop huge hints that she might be someone else, but since nobody else brought it up, I thought maybe it was just me.
DylanMChadley
It's not just you. Not every song alludes to her double life, but we've heard "The Best of Both Worlds" and "The Other Side of Me." As for people not recognizing Miley as Hannah, she does look pretty different with the wig and makeup. Her friends really should have noticed, but it's TV, after all.

I've thought about how hard it would be to keep this huge secret. But then again, the show wouldn't be very entertaining if it were always bogged down by these details. What impresses me most about the show is that the episodes don't revolve around keeping the secret. On most shows, there would be a nosy neighbor always on the verge of discovering Hannah's identity, with a lot of lame excuses and close calls. But this series has managed to avoid that trap, and there has been a variety of situations in which Hannah's misadventures parallel Miley's everyday life.

Oh, and there's a DVD on the way. It was announced a while ago, but if anyone's interested, it will follow the Disney Channel's "four-plus-one" formula (four episodes, plus one that hasn't aired yet). There's no word yet on which episodes will be included. From UltimateDisney.com, a fan site that documents all Disney DVD releases:

Its disc will include a never-before-seen episode, star Miley Cyrus' audition tape, a Hannah Montana music video, and an interview with Cyrus called "Miley on Following Your Dreams."

I also read somewhere that the show has been so successful that the network extended the season by an additional six episodes.
ghettofabman
I still can't believe that Thelma Harper (Mama from Mama's Family) actually made an appearance on THIS show!!
tip and fall
Emily Osment seems like a nice kid...but seriously, she needs to take it down a notch or two or ten in her acting. Her voice is just so fricking shrill! According to someone at IMDB (yeah, I know, not exactly a 10 on the Reliability Litmus Test), Emily just does that sort of voice specifically for Lily (I guess the directors tell her to). And considering how her voice doesn't grate nearly as much during those Disney Channel interviews that run 24/7 on the channel, I have to believe it. Egads, are the powers that be trying to make us LIKE Lily, or hate her?
msrayrudd
Emily's voice is shrill but I think it's pretty equal on the annoyingness level to Miley's own voice. It's actually not their voices themselves that to me are annoying, but of course they are directed to shout everything. I do think it's direction though because that's how seemingly a lot of those DC shows are directed. There's the belief that the louder the better.

But yeah, I know there is a suspension of disbelief or obviously the show wouldn't work, but if Hannah is as big of a worldwide star as they claim her to be some paparazzi would have snapped her picture by now and exposed her secret. How does she live in Malibu and no paparazzi have followed her home or found out where she lived yet?

They aren't all that careful either. There was one episode the other day where Miley was making a public appearance as Hannah. It was for the debut of her new billboard and the place was running with press and Lily showed up as Lily. Hannah was giving Lily this big pep talk and there didn't seem to be any notion in any of their heads that maybe they shouldn't be acting all BFF with the press around. Not the the press would know who Lily is but if a picture leaked out, wouldn't all the kids at school notice?
Laval
Here is Miley Cyrus website. I still don't her name Miley.

Miley's voice isn't as annoying to me, but that's probably just because her voice isn't as high-pitched as Lily's. Of course the shouting is annoying, but just adding the high-pitchedness of Lily's voice....eesh. *shudders*
LittleSable
I'm so disappointed that I missed the newest episode- the one where Miley, jealous of a new TV star student, blows her cover as Hannah. My brother and sister were calling it the "funniest thing ever."

Apparently, in order to fix giving away her identity, she pretends to be a Hannah Montana impersanator. So her brother impersonates Elvis and her dad, wearing a mullet wig, impersonates... Billy Ray Cyrus. Hee!

I can't believe I missed that! I can't believe I watch this show and am honestly entertained by it! I also can't believe that I'm developing a celebrity crush on Billy Ray Cyrus... his 15 minutes of heartthrob status are long gone and done.

And damn it, I'm thinking of buying his latest CD too. I had his first album on cassette way back in elementary school...
edoug
Billy Ray was on NESN last night, during the Red Sox pre-game. He talked about growing up wanting to be a catcher and it was a voice in the sky that told him get a guitar. He had problems because he's left-handed and he didn't know the make guitars for lefties. Obviously he didn't see very much video of the Beatles. The host of the show said Hannah was the highest rated show on Disney. Then Billy brought up watching the Sox-Yankees playoff series when Boston came back from being down 0-3. He saw Johnny Damon and got the inspiration for the son "I Want My Mullet Back". Which happens to be the title of the highest rating Hannah ever got. He was there to sing ( I think America the Beautiful) during the seventh inning stretch but the Sox blew a 10-7 lead so I was mad so I didn't stick around to watch.
