From the WB:
Proud parents Lorelai and Christopher attend a journalism panel at Yale where Rory dazzles the crowd. Afterwards, Lorelai offers to help Christopher (David Sutcliffe) out by babysitting his 4-year-old daughter and is horrified by the toddler's terrible behavior. The next day, Rory and Logan attend the wedding of Logan's sister, Honor (guest star Devon Sorvari). While helping the bride and her three bridesmaids get ready, Rory is devastated to learn how Logan spent his time during their recent breakup. Logan tries to defend his actions, but a devastated Rory turns to Lorelai and Paris for comfort. Finally, Lane is still heartbroken over Zach (guest star Todd Lowe), until he turns up at the diner with a surprise. Scott Patterson and Sean Gunn also star.

Hit it.

I just want to know how "Walker" (was that her name?) Still hasn't found a husband since her debutante ball in Presenting Lorelai Gilmore... Didn't she come out 5 times back then...
beanbean
I can't believe Lane said yes. Zach has no redeeming qualities at all. I really hope this wedding doesn't go through.
shootingstars
Ok other than the whole TOTAL LACK OF LUKE AND LORELAI...

I liked episode. Well except GiGi. Who needs to be PUT IN A CAGE!!

Logan? Not cool. But I loved the interaction between Drunk!Rory and Drunk!Doyle. Funny stuff.

Loved the whole Bat Mitzvah scene, loved Gil singing 'Holla Back Girl'. And I'm really happy for Lane even though I don't like Zach.
3chords
Lane should have drawn up a pre-nuptial agreement indicating that Zach is to bathe at least once a day if she is to share a bed with him.

Rory? Sister, wake up and smell the coffee. Your boyfriend has consistently showed that he has no coping mechanism for stress except for whoring around and boozing. This is your future.

GiGi needs to have her vocal chords removed. Worked wonders for the dog down the street.

New rule: everyone in SH can meet April except for Lorelai. Restraining order to follow.

OK, Christopher needs to be shot in the head.

And Lorelai should be decapitated seeing as to how whatever chunk of brain resided in her cranium apparently shrivels up and dies whenever Chris is within a 10 mile radius. She is going to help him however she can to raise his child? “We” are going to fix this? There should be no ‘we’ there.

I love Lorelai and it occurred to me today that I really actually hate her when she is with Chris. I hate how childish and immature and ridiculous they are together. I hate how she just plays doormat to his Prada soles. I don’t respect her as a woman when she abandons all sense regarding this man-child.

Also, seemingly Luke needs to refer to Lorelai as his fiancée at least once an episode. I assume this is for the benefit of the viewers who wouldn’t otherwise know these two are together in any way at all.

ASP, I won’t even comment on because if you have nothing nice to say it’s better not to say anything at all. Cow. Okay, I couldn’t help myself.
Gamera
Great episode (well, apart from GG)! Alexis actually *acted*. Yay, her!

I don't know whether I'm more thrilled about Lane/Zach or about Paris and Rory making up.

And yes, it sucked about Logan cheating on Rory, but it was only a matter of time...

(I didn't catch any previews for next week - is it a rerun?)
bell0846
Wow was that really the same person? I didn't see either of them act like they recognized each other.

Busted out laughing when I saw Gil singing "Holla Back Girl"
Hyacinth
First of all, I would pay a lot of money to get the full, unedited version of Sebastian Bach covering Hollaback Girl. A lot.

While I know that the Lane/Zach proposal is a horrible idea and it came out of nowhere (at least for unspoiled me) and felt really tacked on, I have to admit I had this huge, dopey smile on my face the entire time.

Finally, for the first time in a long time, I felt sorry for Rory. I don't particularly care for her character--or at least the way she's portrayed (it doesn't surprise me in the least we only saw mere moments of her performance on the panel and that moment didn't include her trying to say perspicacious and I snorted in disbelief when Lorelai said "this kind of stuff is your thing" or whatever it was)--but at the end of the episode this (as written) beautiful, funny, intelligent girl is almost friendless. What college student doesn't have at least a couple friends they can call up in the middle of the night because their relationship just ended? It makes sense that she went to Paris, of course, but it also seemed like she had nowhere else to go. That, to me, seemed a lot more tragic than a bad performance review.

Also, haven't I watched this before, and wasn't it called five seasons of "We were on a break!" on Friends? I'm trusting in the writers to at least recognize this in some way like the writers of The OC did with the "Marissa Cooper graduates!" episode.
razzlephrat
I REALLY REALLLY do not like this Chris storyline. I know ASP said that it wasn't what we think, but these friendly little gestures are getting to me. I mean, really, we see more action between Chris and Lorelai than Luke. I didn't care much for this episode because of that, and I really hope that it's building up to something big, but good big, not another ditch for L&L to fall into, cause i'm not quite sure they are out of the last one. But anyway, I don't get why Lorelai is suddenly so friendly and keen on helping Chris out, other than the fact that he's paying for Yale. I guess I missed the episode where he rewound time and took everything that happened at the wedding and all the crap before that. :/
mysticowl
Ok wasn't this supposed to be the episode before Vineyard? When did Rory and Logan get back together? I missed something.

Luke! Wake up! Your fiancee is finding out about your daughter from your waitress, do something!

Seeing this show at 7pm sucks, I have to wait an hour before posting and forget stuff.
lovefool1978
SHUT UP, RORY! Are the Palladinos the only people in America who haven't seen Friends? Hasn't "we were on a break" been done to death?

Did the Lane-Zach engagement seem incredibly off-key to anyone else?
lynnbrown
Rory sure is an Overreacting Olivia, isn't she? I mean... maybe it's because I missed the episode where she found out Logan wanted to take a break and I'm somehow missing the true caddishness of his break-up behavior, but...

I don't get her utter and unreasonable anger.

Ew, Doyle.

I think the Lane marriage storyline is a bad move.

Christopher was really nasty during that argument. He raised his voice way too much for her to just be accepting apologies all willy-nilly. He owed her flowers and candy and babysitting money with that phone call.

What was with the bad '70s hair on Honor's bridemaids?

What was with Rory's dress (and did that transition to the day of the wedding after commercial break seem really odd to anyone else)?

Rory at the newspaper panel = me rolling my eyes. Hard.

Rory's kind of dirty for showing up at Paris', tryin' to move back in. That wasn't "full disclosure."
OyPoodles
THIS was a sweeps episode? Are you kidding me?

What a waste! No progress made with L&L (seriously, if you blinked, you missed Luke), Lane is engaged (who cares?) and Chris is an asshat as usual. His apology means nothing to me. I hate him and I hate that he has to be on this show cause that whole thing was pointless. This was a pathetic episode.

And I for one am glad that Luke was an ass to Logan last week. At least his gut is right. No one else on this show has good judgment of character. Run away from him Rory as fast as you can! At least she is friends with Paris again. (for now)

I did laugh my ass off at Sebastian Bach singing Hollaback Girl though. How sad that it was the highlight of this show.
shootingstars
everyone in SH can meet April except for Lorelai. Restraining order to follow
Yeah Lane and April seem like best friends. Well not really. I kind of liked the whole "Oh April and I play this" with Lorelai relplying what she used to do with Rory.

I especially liked when Lorelai said Rory didn't like it when she cheated. Because I can totally picture that. Hee.
Summer InA Bowl
I liked it up until Lane and Zach got engaged. That was ridiculous. They weren't even back together and hadn't even talked about all their issues, and suddenly they're engaged? When neither of them has a real job? That makes no sense.

Other than that, solid ep. I actually really liked the Chris/Lorelai scenes. While I don't like them as a couple, they have a nice vibe as friends. And Chris is officially a horrible dad to both his kids.

Nice continuity on Gigi's age. I was afraid they'd inflict rapid-aging-syndrome on her, but I think she really should be about 3 by now.

My roommates and I were just talking about how Alexis Bledel isn't a great actress, but she was actually decent in this one.

Unfortunately, I don't think we've seen the last of Logan...what an ass.

Gil and Brian's rendition of "Hollaback Girl" cracked me up.

Is this the end of psycho Paris? I hope so.

I totally thought Rory would end up sleeping with Doyle. Or at least making out with him.
Sourpatch Kid
Not enough Luke and Lorelai for sure.

I won't even bother being excited about Logan and Rory because you know she's not done with him yet. And I'm not speaking spoilers, it's just obvious. Seriously though, he might as well have just said, "We were on a break." and been done with it.

Otherwise, pretty good episode, but if Lane and Zack get married earlier than Luke and Lorelai, I'll be pissed.
And yes, I'm very prepared to be pissed.
smartypants
Now THAT was an episode of television!

Rory getting ready for the con jamming Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing" was fabulous. Lane trying to serve the toaster was adorable. half!Hep Alien playing "Hollaback Girl" and the implied "My Humps," hee!!!

I feel like this show is back.

Kirshner! Kirshner! Kirshner!
acf151
That? That's how you kiss the guy who just asked you to marry him!
dustylil
I am in no way suggesting anything icky here, but it is amazing to me how much Christopher can behave to Lorelai in the same way that Richard and Emily do and she just takes it.
Not that other people are treating her well but at least they are marginally more polite.
Lady, develop a spine.

Ok wasn't this supposed to be the episode before Vineyard? When did Rory and Logan get back together? I missed something.

The episodes were all supposed to air in this order, I believe. It was just the production that was out of order, for whatever reason. This episode was always after VV.
wej5541
Ok wasn't this supposed to be the episode before Vineyard? When did Rory and Logan get back together? I missed something.

This was always going to be the episode after Vineyard. They just shot the episodes out of order because the actor who plays Mitchum wasn't available when they were supposed to shoot Vineyard.

I totally thought Rory would end up sleeping with Doyle. Or at least making out with him

I know, I thought she would too, thank god she stopped him. But who else can see even that little nuzzle somehow blowing up in her face?
droobie
Soooo glad Rory didn't sleep with Doyle...ew!!!

No Luke & Lorelai...are you serious?! At least April didn't show up either...

And Lane actually said "yes" to Zach? Are you kidding me?! They've been broken up for a really long time.
CleoCaesar
Are Richard and Emily dead and buried somewhere???
troycrazy8
To quote T.B. Player in the American classic That Thing You Do, "Luke? Luke? Who's Luke?" My first television show on my brand-new high-definition television, and I get so little Luke? Not fair.
OyPoodles
dustylil, WORD!

I hate Lorelai with Chris and this episode is why. He is an eternal screwup. I really thought her fight with Chris was going to lead to a heart to heart with Luke about why he won't let her see April, but no, we got his pathetic apology. I can't believe how little we saw of Luke in this episode.

I am really getting sick of this show. Thank God there is a break before the next episode cause I am seriously fed up.
Kalikala
New high point of my life: Sebastian Bach singing Hollaback Girl. I can die a complete person now.
MoosieMc
Miss Alexis acted...and then she got the baby voice back, ah well.

About halfway through, I nearly kicked my dog as I scrambled to get back into the tv room as I heard a spate of ads ending.

WHY????

Because I couldn't wait to see what came next? No: because I didn't want to have to go back and play any part of the tape over again. Ever.

(Taped it for a friend who had to work tonight.)
lizziebeth14
That person that was sitting with Babette in the diner that was supposed to be Morey…good try. But all in all I thought this was a good episode. I actually laughed out loud, which I haven’t done for a current episode in a LONG time (except maybe Richard’s “I love shrimp!”. As for Zack and Lane, whatever. The Loralai and Gigi interaction, hysterical!!! Except for Christopher, he was just annoying. Was this written by DP? Nothing to hate on him but did it bother anyone that they had like a kagillion straight-forward, run of the mill, pop-culture references in a row? Where are Richard and Emily? I miss them. *looks away shamefully*

Wait, one more thing…Doyle? Ew.
glory85
That was...pretty damn bad.

Okay, I'll admit I cracked up seeing Gil covering "Hollaback Girl." It was so bizarre and just awesome. And I did like Drunk!Rory and Drunk!Doyle talking at the bar. (I'm just glad to see Doyle period. Where was he when Paris was going all A Beautiful Mind on everyone?)

Everything else was meh. Lorelai bending over backwards for Chris, Zach proposing to Lane, the overall lack of Lorelai and Luke. I especially hated Chris bitching about how hard it is to be a single parent and how kids are hard blah blah blah. Bitch, Lorelai knows how hard it is to raise a child on her own, she did it for 18 years with no help from you!

Why is Lorelai so nice to him? Why does she insist on helping Chris out so much when he's such a tackhead?

And I don't object to her helping Chris because of a romantic implication. I don't think they're interested in each other that way at all. I object because he's a total asshole to Lorelai and doesn't deserve her help.
Summer InA Bowl
I have to say...I don't get why so many people are objecting to Lorelai helping Chris. I feel like this is a really common response whenever they interact without fighting. But I am not getting a romantic vibe from them at all. They're friends. Why shouldn't she help him?
Maura
I snickered when Lorelai said that Rory was "a natural" at things like the journalism debate, since I've never seen much evidence that she's a great public speaker (going back to Chilton, at least).

Logan drinking at 2pm before the rehearsal?

I actually liked the ending, since Rory seemed calm and mature when she called Lorelai--no weeping about Logan, just a resigned "Got a new address for you."

SHUT UP, RORY!

May I add: Shut up, Chris!
Misha726
Hmm... Let's see what I thought about this episode.

I find it upseting that I like Luke best when we barely see him. It's a sad state of affairs. Why are they ruining Luke for me?

I'm sad about the Logan/Rory break-up. I don't know how I feel about Logan. I liked Logan, then I hated him, then I loved him, and now... I think it's certainly sleezy of him to sleep with the bridesmaids, but very in-character. I also think he truly loves Rory.

That said, I'm not sure if she could take him back again. Obviously Logan has a lot of growing up to do and it's been shown that when the going gets tough, Logan tends to run away from his problems. Not a good sign of a mature relationship.

I'm glad Rory and Paris made up. That was so sweet. Paris might be a nut-case, but she's a loveable nutcase and I think she and Rory kind of need each other.

Lane and Zach! How awesome was that? I was squealing during the diner proposal, I thought it was adorable. So Hep Alien is back together and Lane's getting married! Yay! I wonder how Mama Kim will react...

I still like Christopher. I have to state that. I like that he's trying to get involved with Rory, though I wonder how long it will last. I think he's a terrible parent, but I can see where he's coming from. He has the money and he's trying to compensate for Gigi's mother abandoning her, it's understanable, if not admirable.

So, who else thinks that Lorelai's going to end up stepping in and helping with Gigi in a big way? After all ASP said that Chris would cause trouble with L/L, "but not in the way people are expecting." I think Lorelai is going to end up stepping in and playing Mommy-figure to Gigi and that she's going to get attached, even if the child is a holy-terror.

No Richard and Emily tonight. I don't know if I've missed them or not.
wej5541
Was this written by DP?

Nope, this episode was written by Rebecca Rand Kirchner.
shootingstars
That person that was sitting with Babette in the diner that was supposed to be Morey…good try
Yeah I thought that too. But Babette knows everyone so she could have been sitting next to a random person.

But I really hope Lane/Zach isn't the spring wedding that ASP had in mind.

And no new episodes till April? Not fair.
razzlephrat
Why shouldn't she help him?
That list would be pages long, really.
It's fine that she's helping him, but everything that has happened with him throughout the show has been so glossed over like nothing ever happened.
River Run
The highlight of an episode should not be Gil singing "Hollaback Girl."

I can't believe what an ass Chris was (yeah, he apologized but he's still an ass) and how Lorelai is going to help him. Is this her subliminal way of saying that since Luke won't let her help, she is going to find some other kid to mother?

The Rory is so smart thing got old when she was at Chilton, but it was nice that she and Paris made up.

The person I feel most sorry for is Lane. She got the fuzzy end of the lollipop there.

Luke? You remember Lorelai, right? I don't see that marriage happening anytime soon. But it's nice that everyone in Stars Hollow has met April, but Lorelai.

Off-topic: I love the opening credits of The Amazing Race. I wish every show had the actors do that turn to the camera thing.
Elizabeth Darcy
As much as a think Chris is a douchebag, and as much as I hate the way everyone gives him a pass, I think I kinda dig where they're going with this. Lorelai is lonely and feeling shut out of Luke's relationship with April, so she jumps at the chance to feel needed and to play mom again. No spoilers here, but I see this whole thing bringing L/L L/A to a head.

I don't think we're done with this, but I do think it's going to lead to good things, L/L-wise.
one sweet world
I have so much hate for this episode.

Things I hated:
-I get that Lorelai's forgiven Chris for the WBB crap he pulled, but do they really need to act so damn chummy? Kissing on the cheek, joking around together, "we made her"? Maybe I'm just really bitter and stubborn, but I don't like watching Lorelai and Chris act like best friends. I know they have a past, but I hate watching them like that, and I can't help but thing that ASP has something planned for them that will make the L/L fans very upset.
-Gigi. Good lord, that girl's annoying.
-Zach proposing to Lane and Lane saying yes. Why does this suck? Because 1)Zach doesn't deserve Lane, 2)Lane's an idiot for saying yes and taking Zach back, and 3)the diner's supposed to be L/L's place! That's where Lorelai proposed to Luke, and now it's tainted because Zach proposed to her there, too. That sucks.
-The long bat mitzvah scene. It was funny at first, but then I just wanted the scene to end.
-One L/L scene? There's something wrong when Lorelai and Chris have more scenes together than Luke and Lorelai.
-Doyle kissing Rory. So, I guess it's true that every single guy who Rory has ever been friends with wants her.

Things I liked:
-Gil!
-Paris!
-Lorelai telling Chris that Gigi's spoiled, and not backing down.

What I think this episode solidified is the fact that everyone's allowed to get married except Luke and Lorelai.
Aysha
Logan and Rory's fight was so Ross and Rachel. We were on a break, no we were broken up! W/e! I don't think he was technically cheating b/c he did think they were broken up, but what a creep for 'hooking up' or 'fooling around' with Honor's friends. Also, is that the same Honor? She looked a little different.

While Chris was definitely an absent father, I don't blame it all on him b/c originally lorelai just left and took rory with her, chris wouldve married her and all that. but yeah. Gigi is really a little terror.
OyPoodles
Why shouldn't she help him?

Cause he never helped her? He is the worst father ever, he tried to ruin her relationship with Luke and she bends over backwards for him. It is infuriating to me. Why does he get all this slack and she can't go to Luke and discuss April? It's making me sick. I am so disappointed. This show could have handled this so much better and they didn't need Chris.

I dunno if L&L get married this season or ever, but I have officially lowered my bar for things I want to see on this show: I just want Luke to punch Chris, just once. That would make me happy at this point.
3chords
Why shouldn't she help him?

Because he treats her like his own personal toilet to shit all over.

Case in point: she does him a favour, he comes into her home, not a word of gratitude, yells, throws a childish fit, has the gall to suggest that she doesn't know how to mind a 3 year old and then stomps off. Followed by sugary sweet apology and then Lorelai opens up her mouth real wide again so he can shit down it once more.

It's an eternal cycle with this man. Lather, rinse, repeat. He's like an emotional abuser who shows up with a bouquet of roses and gets the woman to forgive him until next time.

He's never made real amends, he's never stopped crapping all over her and she's never once stood up to him and drawn the line.

It makes me respect her less as a woman, it really does.
bell0846
I'm glad Rory and Paris made up.

I am too but I was a little bit let down by it.. I was hoping they'd have a little bit more of a conversation instead of just making up in a heartbeat. Oh well, I agree that they need each other.
troycrazy8
Totally superficial, but Lisa Weil has the most amazing skin tone. Lucky.
Erin1022
Um yeah, if Rory and Doyle had slept together, that would have been it for me.

I too thought that the whole "we were on a break thing" was way too Friends-ish. I definitely understand Rory's side, though. She said it best: when you're broken up, you tell the other person that you're broken up! And she was really pitiful in the bar, especially when she said, "I wonder when Logan's going to sleep with someone else. Oh wait, he probably already has." Sad! But at the same time, it's not like that behavior is all that surprising coming from Logan, and it's good that she's seeing that and not just the charming, let-me-win-you-back-with-lots-of-presents Logan. I wish I could say I think this is the end of them, but I have a feeling it's not. He'll probably charm his way back in. Grr.

Ditto about the lack of Luke and Lorelai! WTF can April interact with everyone BUT Lorelai?? Given the fact that she's not being allowed to be in April's life at all, I'm not surprised by her wanting to help Christopher. Lorelai likes being needed, and Luke doesn't seem to need her much lately. Still, she should have smacked Chris or something instead of just saying, "Oh you're sorry? Okay." PUH-LEASE.

I didn't see the Lane and Zach engagement coming at ALL. How could I, when they haven't even been talking?! But I have to say, it made me happy. Zach's little speech was so cute, and so was Lane. I like it, but I have a feeling that we're going to have to put up with their wedding at the end of the season and not Luke and Lorelai's. (Not a spoiler, I'm just guessing.)
RayvenFire
And Lorelai should be decapitated seeing as to how whatever chunk of brain resided in her cranium apparently shrivels up and dies whenever Chris is within a 10 mile radius. She is going to help him however she can to raise his child? “We” are going to fix this? There should be no ‘we’ there.

It's just a passive aggressive way to get back at Luke for keeping her from meeting his daughter. Which I have no problem with, If I was Lorelai I'd be way past passive and halfway through aggressive about now. What is Luke thinking? I totally see how this is going to go, when Lorelai (many episodes down the road) finally asks Luke what his deal about keeping April from her he will act stunned, stunned! and say he didn't know she wanted to meet April. Of course that excuse would only work if he is blind, if Lorelai's face falls any more when the A-word is mentioned she is going to need a face lift before she hits 40.

Zach is a tool. The scene reeked of cheese and Jerry Maguire. Just uh.

Logan is an even bigger tool. HATE.

Doyle hitting on Rory was weird. I kept thinking he went for her neck because he was to short to go for the lips. If Paris freaked out about the paper, she is going to go after Rory with a butcher knife when she finds out what happened.

This is supposed to hold me over until April? ASP/DSP you suck harder than the 7th season of Buffy.
Hyacinth
So, who else thinks that Lorelai's going to end up stepping in and helping with Gigi in a big way?

I do. It makes sense. Not only does she always bail Chris out/put up with whatever shit he chooses to throw at her, he's also offering her something Luke isn't: access to the part of his life that involves his child. I can see Lorelai pouring her frustration into being shut out of the April/Luke dynamic--not even meeting her, really, unless I missed something--by devoting a lot of time and devotion to Gigi. Which I cannot imagine would sit well with Luke.
shootingstars
Hi, sorry, NO.

That girl wasn't three years old. She was at least five. And kids don't age THAT much in a year (see above picture).
