I understand that Sara Ramirez is going to show up at least a few more times and I'm so glad for it. It was great to see a woman (a Mexicana, woo!) that wasn't stick thin and was completely up front with what she was interested in. George, you better call her or I'll kick your ass.
Plus, kudos to the writers and casting agents who found someone that brings in yet another cultural background to this already diverse show. I can't wait to see what happens.

Yay! I'm happy someone started a thread for her!
I really think a bolder, more confident woman is definately better for George because George is shy and needs someone to bring him out of his shell. It was also great that at what was one of George's lowest points, emotionally, in the show there was a good-looking and confident woman immediately taking interest and complimenting him.
I also like the idea of expanding beyond the small group of doctors that they show every week. Now if only a character could find a good date outside of Seattle Grace we'd be golden.

ITA! I love her already; she's such a total hottie (but they do need to soften her make-up a touch) and she's supposed to be a really great actress. And she's exactly what George needs.

I was also glad for the introduction of Dr. Torres.
Great bedside manner ("Single? Really?" *crack*), great figure (hallelujah!), and a great "moving on" person for George. I just hope she doesn't end up being "The Rebound Girlfriend."
I loved everything about her though: from the fact that she was able to put a dislocated shoulder back into joint, to her boldly walking up and giving George her number, to the fact that, at first, I thought her sleeves underneath her scrubs were tattoos.
I definitely approve.
p.s. I've had a dislocated shoulder before; it takes some strength to pop that sucker back in. Methinks this could bode well for Dr. O'Malley between the sheets...hey, if she's got *upper* body strength...

I love orthopedics with a passion. (I'm the ortho coordinator in the operating room where I work.) They'd better be nice to the specialty. It's not all about crunching non-anesthetized patients' shoulders back into alignment like a friggin sexy brunette hulk or something!

I liked her too! LIke someone above said, not stick thin, but a total HOTTIE!!!! And obviously smart too...good to see someone like that on primetime TV instead of all these Wisteria Lane biotches!

I LOVE this character. I think the introduction of her could lead to some great George scenes, and any character that gets George more screen time is fine with me. I really like how she's not a size zero and not some idealized version of what a woman is supposed to look like.

I really, really liked her. She has balls-a-plenty, but not in a confrontational, off putting way. I think is she exactly the kind of woman George needs to make him grow a pair of his own and grow the fuck up.
Oliva was just not right for him, she is just to mopey and dopey and sickly sweet, just like him. They enabled ( gah...hate cheesy psycho babble words like that, but it fits here) each other and their weaknesses imho, instead of complementing each others differences and fostering and nurturing their similarites.

I loved her! She's realistically confident, but not as challenging as Cristina. I do love Cristina, but there's no need for two of her on this show!
Also, it's nice to see a curvy woman on tv for a change! Dr. Torres is beautiful and it's about time a woman who's not a stick portrayed as strong and sexy.

It would be really wrong if there was no mention of her again. If they didn't plan on bringing her back they could have done without the whole "Call me when you get back" scene. I don't think the writers would be so mean to us. After that scene, I think it's pretty clear that we'll be seeing more of her. At least, we'd better be seeing her again!!

She's been signed as a recurring character-not sure for how long though.
A request for all of the posters in the GA forum:

Can we all stop referring to slim people as 'sticks' or similar descriptions? Because it's offensive. Maybe use slim, or slender, or, my personal favorite, svelte?
Much appreciated.

You're right, we should stay away from such unflattering terminology (and all the same, those who called Sara Ramirez 'fat' in the episode thread should rethink what constitues a healthy weight; I doubt she's even a size 10). You do have to admit, though, no one's going to be offering Dr. Torres the cookies that a lot of people have been offering Mer.
Do we know how long Sara Ramirez will stay? Will it be until the end of the season?

Mar 3, 2006 @ 11:55 pm
ITA Rant, I thought she looked great. And hardly 'fat', as some may have said. She seems like she might be just what George needs to grow a pair, and, since she's sticking around for awhile (she's been cast as a recurring character), maybe she will be!

I was really excited when I heard that Sara Ramirez was joining the cast, as she was brilliant as the Lady of the Lake in "Spamalot" and gave one of the best acceptance speeches at this year's Tony Awards. She really is wonderful as Callie Torres, and I hope 'recurring' means lots more episodes and maybe some real loving for poor, sweet hapless George.
I love the character so far, love her openness, her strength, her lushness, and the fact that she's impressed with George and his elevator surgical style.
And Mexican/Irish is a nice mix, I've known several families with that background, lol. George and Callie would have very nice looking kids, most likely.

Punch my ticket for the Callie Torres Love Train. I wish I had seen Spamalot, so her being in that alone is sufficient for me to build her a shrine. I was reading an article about that show before it opened and they said that major actors - Broadway and Hollywood types had been calling Eric Idle to get a role - any role - when they got wind he was putting it together.
On Topic - I think it is how striking she is that stands out to me. Her makeup was a bit harsh for my tastes in that episode, but I love her coloring. I also like that she has curves. The whole combination of her looks and personality gives her va-voom, maybe even va-va-voom.

I really love that they're showing a character with a more "realistic" body type. And that they're showing her as a potential love interest, instead of just a friend to the guy who wants the size zero girl.
Plus, her personality is great. I liked her almost as soon as I saw her. She's just really intriguing to me.

As one who likes George I would disagree...except that George, despite his charms does not seem to be someone who draws in people through animal magnestism. But I'll let the writers do their work.

I have to agree there....I'm one of those people who doesn't find him remotely appealing. He seems quite asexual to me. If you go to the Wikipedia page for GA, they list great quotes from all of the eps so far. From reading that, it seems that a number of people assumed he was gay in S1.

She has a nice figure, but her makeup was scaring me-- it made her face look square and waxy. She also came off as hardcore fangirl, what with her "surgery in an elevator is Hott!! attitude". It seemed predatory in general, and kinda wasted on icky pathetic George. I'm reserving judgment on her.

Mar 6, 2006 @ 1:30 pm
Same here evalusion . Don't like the looks, and don't like that heavy make up at all. She looked quite vulgar to me. And the fact she has this fangirl attitude with George, whom I don't like in the slightest, doesn't make her more appealing to me. Still, if she manages to make George grow a pair and then dumps him, I will love her for eternity. :)

George and Callie are so different - he is a mopey fetus and she is a strong, independent woman. I hope some of her boldness rubs off on him. Dr. Torres will save the show (or at least O'Malley), and I will love her for it.

I am on the fence about Dr Torres...She seemed funny but I am in agreement with those who think something must be wrong with her if she is that into George...And I didn't sense chemistry there, I find there interaction a little off for some reason.

I like her. I mean, we don't know much about her so my opinion could change very easily, but she seemed like a funny, bright and confident girl. Just what the doctor ordered for George, IMO. If she can help George become more independent and head-strong and less of a "foetus", then there's no way I can
not like her.
And the fact she has this fangirl attitude with George, whom I don't like in the slightest, doesn't make her more appealing to me.
I didn't see her interest in George as fangirly. As much of a mope as George is, he is a nice guy - humble, sweet, funny, caring, et cetera. Although I don't find him to be the most attractive doctor in the hospital, different people are attracted to different people. And to be frank, I think it's great that we have a girl who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go for it. I thought the way she gave George her number at the end was rather sweet and smooth.

Heh, not a big fan of the pretty boys? McDreamy and Alex are intimidatingly good looking and George... is a puppy or a 12 year old and she is very confident so I really don't think it has anything to do with the fact that he is 'good-looking' just more that she is very aggresive and knows she can get George, that and he plugged a heart.

Pretty boys who's "prettiness" is shoved down the viewers throats constantly? No. Pretty boys who aren't so in your face pretty but are handsome in their own NORMAL way. Yup. And I really don't think that Callie seems like the type who is intimidated. It wouldn't suprise me if she were to roll her eyes and laugh at a come on by Alex or a type like him. Granted we don't know much about her character but that's the vibe I get. If she were the type to be intimidated easily she wouldn't have much of a point. Plus she was refered to by one of the writers as "Saucy" so I'm thinking she's not going to be impressed by an Alex or "McDreamy" type.
And yeah...it's pretty impressive when someone does heart surgery(someone who is only an intern) in an elevator by himself. Certainly Mr. "intimidatingly handsome" Karev wasn't much help as he wet himself.

I really liked her this episode, even though she wasn't appropriately accessorized in the OR (by their medical advisor) to be attempting microsurgery.
She seemed a little softer (maybe because she wasn't yanking any dislocated extremities this time), and kind of sweet. Maybe the writers will use her to help Georgie grow up a little bit and get over his 4th grade response to the whole Mere thing.

I loved her. Honestly, if George doesn't call her, I won't know what to do with this show.. it's bad enough that they pretend that men would fall all over Meredith - Meredith! - but for George not to respond to someone who looks like Torres, and actually has a personality? Come on, Shonda, there's only so much suspension of disbelief I can manage.

I am also on this love train. She's bringing a fresh air to a show that (since the 2nd Bomb Ep) has been going on a slight downhill (not by much, but by enough for me to notice and be sad).

WHAT?
Shoefiend not this too. LIKE ME you are obsessed with shoes?? Although being Italian I have more of Prada, Gucci, Sergio Rossi etc. But I LOOVE Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo shoes! Ok, we definitely must exchange email addresses and talk about this. :) It's scary what I have in common with you guys around here!
Still not on the love train for Dr Torres. She DID sound fangirl when she was all over George going like "oh you are the one of the elevator surgery, you're such a hero, can you see the hearts around my head?" and "oh here I write my number on your hand". That is fangirl to me. AAANYWAY, if she manages to bed George and then dump him and make him grow a pair, I will forever be grateful to her.
Now if only George can stop being so pitiful... and Mark could come back...
I hear you

Personally, I love Torres and I'm so glad she's been added to the show. I thought she was very cute with George tonight. I liked that she was willing to give up on him instead of the way he is with Meredith, and she made him snap out of it.
If you want to hear Sara Ramierz sing you can listen to the snipets of Spamalot
on Amazon ("Come with Me" and "Diva's Lament" are the Lady of the Lake's big songs). Or you could just buy the thing. I wish I could've seen her in that show. She was gone by the time I got there.

Initially I thought that Dr. Torres would be a good fit for George, but now I'm not so sure. I like her and think that she deserves better than George. Lately, George has been whiny and unable to move off of the couch he's sleeping on at Burketina's place. I was surprised that she decided to give him another chance in the end. Here's to hoping that she snaps him out of the whiny funk he's in, and brings him back to his original characterization.

No, you're not the only one who doesn't like her. The first time she was on, I thought she loooked a bit mannish, but realized I was being too judgmental. I decided to give her some time. I've given it, and my opinion has only gotten worse.
As others have said, she could do so much better. Instead, it's pretty pathetic that she's still into George. She hasn't really seen any of his attractive qualities in person. He's been wimpy and sulky and then downright childish. Her initial attraction to him was understandable, he was the elevator doctor, but since then he's pretty much been completely unattractive. Maybe she likes fixerups. But really.
