Wanda and Desiree are the first mother/daughter team in quite a while. They are very close, and have achieved a lot in life. Wanda successfully earned two degree while taking care of Desiree, and later, would watch Desiree graduate from college. Currently, Wanda is in Georgia and married, and Desiree is in NYC.
I'm in the group of people who were thinking Nancy/Emily upon seeing this team. I originally thought that they were another set of best friends, like Danielle & Danielle. However, they are mother and daughter, but looking like cousin and cousin because Wanda really looks great! I can't really see this team lasting long, but I hope they do. If all goes well, they could break Momily's other record of being the only parent/child team to reach the Top 4.

Love them - they got through the first leg with a minimum of hassle (although I know the language must have been a nice boost) and I hope to see them in the race for a long while yet.

I could swear these 2 were on an episode of "Date My Mom."
I like them though, so far...

What I love most about these lovely ladies is they are not racing to prove anything to each other or to have a closer relationship or any of that peripheral stuff they could work out in a less public way. They are already close and work well together. If the Fates will allow a winning Chick team, I hope it is Wanda and Desiree.

Damn, Desiree is a dead ringer for Jessica Alba. Not that I'm complaining, especially when combined with how well they're doing. Keep going, eye candy!

I like Wanda and Desiree as well, they seemed to work well together and really focus on the task at hand. I hope they can go far because Desiree...looking good. Oh and because they good racers.

Damn, Desiree is a dead ringer for Jessica Alba.
Damn, you read my mind! I defintley see some Alba in Desiree. Maybe not the current, sexed up Alba, but I defintley see a S1 Dark Angel Alba in her. Not that it matters since any Alba is hot (IMO), and that defintley makes Desiree hot.
Overall, I like this team. Wanda had a few annoying moments, but I even found her entertaining. It's nice to see a parent/sibling team that isn't clashing all the time.

Even if they weren't of Puerto Rican descent, I'd still probably be cheering for this team. Desiree is definitely a hottie, and seems like a very nice person in general; the mom, I'm not too sure about. Still, if this team turns out to be half as good as Momily was, I'll be very satisfied.

I do hope Wander & Desiree are the first F3 female team. They seem like a strong duo and Desiree knows when to "calmate" momma down, which Wander does a good job listening to her daughter.

I do hope Wander & Desiree are the first F3 female team.
I don't think they will (I think Wanda needs to learn how to relax) but if they do make F3, I won't complain at all. Plus I learned a lot of Spanish because of them tonight.

I have to say, Desiree was a floormate of mine Freshman year at NYU, and TAR completely suits her and her mom. She was captain of the fencing team, sharp as tacks, and very VERY oblivious to how goddamn gorgeous she is. She was a film major, and was very stoic a lot of the time. It wasn't until after freshman year that she started showing this kind of exhuberance. The funny thing is, she's the first person I can think of out of that floor that would be picked to be on TAR. Go figure. Rooting for her and Wanda all the way.

I kinda like these two. They seem to work well together and aren't in the race to "explore their relationship". Their language abilities seemed to help a lot, although they also came across as very smart and logical. I see them sticking around for a while.

This was a much stronger team than I expected from their pre-race video, where they seemed shy and tentative. Mom is tough and daughter is smart (and beautiful). I think they'll go quite a way into the race now.

I got a Boricuan Natalie Portman vibe from Desiree.
Very cute, quite mature and intelligent.
I also appreciated Mom's respectful nature with the Brazilians she encountered.
I like this team.

Could she be the prettiest girl ever on TAR? She's darn close. I agree with the Jessica Alba comparison, but during the episode I saw her more as an
Emmy Rossum lookalike.

Okay, so now we have a gayboy crush, a straightboy crush, and a gaygirl crush. Can anybody chime in with a straightgirl crush, just to make it a clean sweep?
I can’t do it myself, being a guy, but I find both the mother and daughter to be attractive. I wonder what Darwin would think, if someone can basically get the clean sweep from everybody? That has got to be the ultimate in attractiveness.

Straightgirl crush rightchere.
I didn't expect to like them very much; in fact, I figured at best, they'd be "meh." But I really enjoyed their performance and the way they interacted, both with each other and with the locals. In fact, I like them more at this point than I liked Momily at first. I hope they go far.
And yeah, Desiree is gorgeous and seems like a helluva person beyond her looks, too.

This team is fun to watch. It is nice to see a mother & daughter(on TAR) that are equally respectful of each other. Desiree seems to be very cool and collected. Plus, she is total hottie...big ole gayguy crush here. They are my fave to win, so far.

I really like this team, and not because of their attractiveness!
No, I like them because I see a daughter who is respectful to her mother, a mother who is respectful to her daughter, people who interact with the locals, are having fun, racing well, and complimenting each others strengths and weaknesses. Awesome girls. You should totally be the first all-female winners!

Oh, Desiree. You are hot enough to carry this season. And I'm a girl who likes boys.
This team is my early favorites. I was pre-meh on them before the Race, but I just love them now. They do what they need to do, they Race smart, and they take the time to appreciate the things they're getting to see. My perfect racers.
And Desiree's hot. Did I already mention that? Because she is.

yellowdog I totally thought Natalie Portman last night too! I was so impressed with these two - a bit excitable (both of them) but sharp and having the best time. I hope they can keep that vibe going.

My initial thought was Jessica Alba, but my wife said "the chick from Star Wars". But then there were some angles where she was a dead ringer for Norah Jones. Either way, she's beautiful.

The ability to bridge the language barrier was probably invaluable to this team and I'm not surprised they did so wonderfully. I'm just wondering how they will do in, say Russia or Japan. If they stay under control and continue to keep focused (for the most part, anyway) like they did last night, I can totally see them making it to final three and possibly winning.
Also, was I the only one who loved Mom's obsession with the room in the hotel? 'Cause, "this room is SO NICE!" was kinda cracking me up. Hee.

A friend who's fluent in Portuguese and knows a fair amount of Spanish says it's one of the 95/5 things. 95% is the same, but the 5% that isn't is in common words and will fuck you up, down, and sideways.

In addition to the similarities in language, Brazilians (esp. those in service industries like taxi and helicopter rental) must get tourists from all over Central and South America and are likely to understand and be more receptive to Spanish-speaking passengers.
And Desiree is gorgeous. (Her mom's not too hard on the eyes either.)
That is all.

Word. I now have a huge crush on Desiree! She is BEAUTIFUL. Way more than that model chick who won a few seasons ago, because that one lacked a heart IMO. I agree with the poster who said she looked like Norah Jones, and I later saw a resemblence to Mia Maestro(Sydney's sister Nadia on Alias. I really hope her and her mom make it through for as long as possible.

I really want to like this team, but I'm having some trouble with Wanda (she's the Mom, isnt' she?). I love the daughter. But Mom just seems too tense and high strung, something that has the potential to get worse as the Race gets more intense.
SGretchen
Mar 1, 2006 @ 12:03 pm
BearCat, I have the same problem with the mom. She's not pacing herself the way her daughter is. Her daughter is more mature than most of the adults, and I include Fran and Barry on that list.

They seem to have a nice balance in their relationship that the parent/child teams don't usually have -- usually, it's either the adventurous kid impatiently carrying the parent (even Momily was kind of like this, although I did love Nancy) or the kid trying to prove something to the parent and the parent not listening to them. So this team, where each of them has some strengths and some weaknesses but they seem to understand each other pretty well, has a lot of potential.
The Gilmore Girls parallel is actually pretty strong -- judging from how young and attractive she is, Wanda was pretty young when she had Desiree, and it seems like maybe they sort of grew up together, trading off being the adult one.
Another thing to like? Phil calling her "Wander" every time they hit the mat.
I love that too! I can't explain why, though I love me some Phil in general, so I'm glad I'm not alone!

They were the only team I actually liked. Go Wander and Desiree! Wander is a good name for someone in this race. I suppose something a littl faster and with more purpose might be better than "wander," but at least it involves movement and travel.
I'm picking Rachel Bilson of The OC as the Desiree lookalike.

they take the time to appreciate the things they're getting to see.
Great point.
While in the helicopter, Desiree remarked she was glad she chose that task, regardless of what it did to their race standing, simply because it was such an (dare I say it),
amazing experience.
I'd like to think that's how I would approach TAR if involved.

I was very pleasently surprised by this team. Based only on their pre-race video and their picture (which is really all I had to work with) I supposed that they would be either out, or have a bad placement - but no! They rocked the entire race and are now one of my favourites. They are very cute (especially Desiree) together and I'm hoping they continue to rock the race.
They were one of the only teams that didn't annoy me in some way.
