If the demos skewed more female this week bc the loss of general viewers were mostly male viewers watching basketball, Dawn would really like that. It's frustrating that we don't really know what's going on without those figures. Still, I'm glad "Turbulence" improved in ratings from last week. It was a good episode. The writers and actors did a good job and it deserved an audience.
Random Nation - You're right. Series Lows still belong to "Prototype" 2 years ago in every category: overall viewers, A18-49 and A18-34.

It was the kind of episode that would have required a lot more thought about character than a typical FOTW episode. I am very sorry their work wasn't justly rewarded with better ratings. It wasn't thrilling and it was very dark, but there was a lot of meat to it. "Sleeper" got higher ratings. That just ain't right.
This is also bothering me. The last 3 years there were maybe 2-4 episodes in each season that were really great. And most of the times the ratings sucked. I know this is more due to the fact that the other 95% of the time the show is just ridiculously bad, but it still sucks.

Yay, finals went up! So maybe there weren't pre-emptions last week after all?
On a side note why does Nielsen even bother reporting down to the 1,000's digit? From what I've read their numbers are already fuzzy in 100,000s. (i.e. the difference between Infamous' 3.57 million and Turbulence's 3.49 million is statistically insignificant)

There were preemptions last week. That one I am sure, I am just not sure where but one of my online friends was asking us for a link to watch it online because it was pre-empted where he lives. I however doubt that it was in a major market, so it might not have made a big difference in the ratings. I just think that from now on, it will require the show to drop in mythos names (new names; not the already existing regular mythos characters) for the show to increase in ratings (except for the finale IMO).

I can vouch that both SV and SPN were indeed preempted for my CW, which services half of my small-to-average sized state.
It didn't air till the following Saturday at 6 and 7, when I promptly forgot to watch.

It was preempted in Austin for basketball. It came on approx. an hour and twenty minutes later. However, finals also allow for DVR recordings seen within a few hours of primetime and so people who watch via DVR would have been probably been fine.

That's a lot better than I expected. Depending on pre-emptions there's an outside chance finals could crack 4.0 though 3.9 is more likely. A 3.9 would put it a smidgen ahead of last year's coulda been season finale, Veritas (based on year to date. Year to episode matches Hex up against Sleeper which Hex should beat easily in finals).

Makes sense to me. I know when Bones is on I always watch that live and tape Smallville. Afterwards I have a hard time making myself watch Smallville since after watching Bones I'm actually in a good mood. But apparently I'm a sick, sick, women and I haven't been able to skip an episode. That's so weird. I wouldn't have noticed the difference if you hadn't mentioned it. "Power" was the last time the CW was pleased enough with SV's performance to put out a press release. They harped on the good numbers for young adult females. I wonder how that worked out in raw numbers.

I'd forgotten Sleeper came after Descent...what a terrible combo. The worst thing about Sleeper is that the basic premise (The Government targets Chloe due to her hacking) wasn't bad, just the execution with Double OOh Olsen and the Tango Of Suck.
The very basic premise of Stilleto (Lois pretends to be a Super!Shoe in order to gain fame) is vomit inducing and I don't recall a hint of Dooms in the promo, a sure way to loose momentum.

I have trouble accepting these are correct figures, but according to pifeedback.com these are the overnights for Stiletto:
Also in the 8 p.m. hour was Fox's underrated Bones (Viewers: #2, 8.22 million; A18-49: #2t, 2.2/ 7), NBC sitcoms My Name is Earl (Viewers: #3, 5.50 million; A18-49: #2, 2.2/ 7) and recently introduced Parks and Recreation (Viewers: #4, 5.23 million; A18-49: #2t, 2.3/ 7), a repeat of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC (Viewers: #4, 5.12 million; A18-49: #4, 1.5/ 5), which stepped in for ousted In the Motherhood and Samantha Who?, and veteran Smallville on the CW (Viewers: #5, 3.05 million; A18-49: #5, 1.3/ 4).

Oh man, that's depressing. I think the trailers are what did the show in, unfortunately. Stiletto wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I can see casual viewers being turned off by the promos. Plus, Bones was once again new and that seems to be hurting the show more than anything.

Yes, a drop coming off a hiatus is to be expected, but this is much more of a drop than I would have expected to the point where I am wondering if the numbers are wrong. Marc Berman does sometimes mess up on numbers. It's rare, but it has happened.
Bones was once again new and that seems to be hurting the show more than anything.
This could be a factor. People seem to really like "Bones" and I know some SV fans online that are choosing it over SV lately. I like DB and male/female detective teams so I may give it a look over the summer. It's suppose to be like "The X-files" and I *LOVED* the X-files and Mulder and Scully.

I suppose I'm evil, and though I eventually saw isolated parts of this episode online after the episode aired. I'm personally not at all surprised by these numbers. The promo, and leaked spoilers asked for it imo. The months leading up to this episode gave away spoilers that turned me off as a Chloe supporter. Big time. Offensive. Spiteful. Hurtful. I don't know how much of a factor that played into it, but I know a few people who are Chloe supporters who made the decision to skip on this one because of that whole feeding AJ bit. It was a real fear and turn off and blatant character assignation imo. And past episodes that have shared the same coming back from a brief hiatus going up against competition has never fared such crappy ratings. So I don't buy that excuse personally. Are these the lowest in the shows run?

Seems like ratings were low in general last night, so I am leaning towards it not having anything to do with the filler that was Stiletto, per se. Most that can be interpreted from the low figures for SV is that the plot/characters was not a ratings draw. That's my take on it anyway.

The finals should bring up the number.
The thing is one of SV's assets has been their very strong core audience = fans who tune in no matter what else is going on so that they are SV's ratings basement. Stiletto may re-set their ratings basement lower than ever before.
Hopefully, the CW publicist and the show's publicist do something to help drum up anticipation for the last episodes of the season. It'd be great if they set up joint SW/AM interviews with different people in the media.
And I mentioned this before on tptb thread, but I think they should try to get SW/AM/TW print interviews before the finale and put out pictures of the triangle to drum up publicity. Maybe they could pull strings with TVGuidemagazine or Entertainment Weekly to do something on Chlarkoom for the finale? That trio would make a great picture for an article.
considering some drop off in the second half, I wonder if people just didn't feel like watching it.

From the "Stiletto" thread:
I went to Wikipedia to find the rating of Stiletto. It states that the episode pulled in 3.04 million viewers. That's the lowest of this season. And Nois was featured heavily in the promos.
As much as I want to blame Nois being featured for the bad ratings, I can't put all the blame on that. The trailer at the end of Eternal was bad, and it got even less no promotion from the network than a normal Smallville episode, but Smallville wasn't the only show last night to get low ratings. Almost every show took a hit in some form.
However, it should be noted that the two worst episodes ratings-wise were Nois-centric.
