Craig just posted the ridiculously bad Smallville schedule for the remaining season 7 episodes over at KSite.
http://www.kryptonsite.com/1/31 #7-10 "Persona"
2/7 #7-11 "Siren"
2/14 #7-12 "Fracture"
2/21 through 3/13 Repeats
3/20 "Hero"
3/27 "Traveler"
Unscheduled "Veritas" (Possible Season Finale)
I really don't understand why they have to break up these episodes. A four week break in between "Fracture" and "Hero"? WTF? I wonder if they are trying to wait until the last possible second to air all of these episodes in case the strike gets resolved and they can tack on a few more episodes at the end of the season.

Smallville always loses its momentum when they air repeats, so I don't really get it either - especially since if they continued all the way through, the newly-relocated Reaper would really benefit from following new SV eps.
I'm curious if FOX has scheduled Thursday American Idols on those three skipped weeks. Maybe that's what they did, to avoid AI while not making us wait until March for the show to return.
It's sad though - they could promote the heck out of the fact that SV has six new episodes left where some shows have none, but this is the CW we're talking about.
Regarding more episodes - I'm thinking it's looking less and less likely, especially if they're now thinking the strike will affect the Oscars. Unless they had more scripts started but not finished... I don't think they'd get back into production on time for more than 1 or 2 episodes, and would it really be worth it for that? Now, if the strike ended tomorrow we'd still be in luck, but... I don't know.
Filmed production shuts down the last week of January, so I'm imagining if they're going to continue, they'd have to decide it by then.

My guess is that in case the strike ends, they want to be able to carry out the schedule as normal even though we're starting two weeks later than usual.

I just wonder if some realize how long it takes to go from initial story idea to a completed episodes.
There will be no more new episodes this season beyond "Veritas." Even if the strike ended tomorrow (and they aren't even negotiating at this time), there is not enough time to get episodes written and filmed before the end of the season.
In fact, there is some question as to whether the strike will end in time for the fall season to start on time next September.
(BTW, the Screen Actors are set to go out on strike in June and the Writer's Guild has already pledged to support that strike as well.)
So make sure your Netflix or Blockbuster Online queue is up to date. It's going to be a long wait.

This is fantastic for recapping, but doesn't sound so good as far momentum for the rest of the season.

ITA. With this schedule, they're burdening two episodes, Persona and Hero, with no lead in. Having a lead in, does make a difference in ratings. It takes awhile for some of the audience to realize that the show is back again with new episodes and to get back into the habit of watching again. It'd be better for Hero if they aired them all in a row. Lost learned the lesson about breaking up their season and now they're airing all their episodes in a row. People like that consistency.
Advertising would help some. How much is hard to say because I'm not sure how many viewers see ads, but the CW hasn't promoted SV well at all this season. It'd be nice if they at the VERY least started airing ads that a new episode is coming up starting this week so there would help build some momentum going into Persona after the long break. The CW doesn't have much new material to air, it'd be nice if they made the most of the new SV episodes and gave them some serious promotion.

Yeah, it sure would be nice if the CW could see their way clear to running some early promos for the show, or maybe releasing some stills from upcoming eps. Anything to lead up to the show coming back on the 31st, and try to make sure people are aware, and looking forward to the shows return. But I just don't believe SV (or SPN) has any support in the CW hierarchy, and thats precisely why, IMO, its never a good idea to get too confident of it returning for an 8th season. The CW might not have anything else they can point to as a viable hit, except maybe ANTM, but that certainly hasn't impacted them treating SV like a red-headed stepchild.

Jan 10, 2008 @ 2:10 pm
I think it will be back without a doubt because the strike has lasted so long. They have nothing, as far as scripted shows, that gets Smallville's ratings on the network. They'll give them a season 8, even if it's a shortened one.
Black Panda
Jan 10, 2008 @ 4:40 pm
What ticks me off is with the legendary 15 episode arc allegedly already written they could have theoretically set it up to finish this year. They could have given the CW a show that went a whole season, what a prize that would seem to me.
Eurybia
Jan 10, 2008 @ 4:47 pm
I can't see them just not renewing it, especially with no new programming, without very strong cause. A shortened eighth season might be the best, with members of the cast clearly unhappy with continuing the show and an alleged closing arc already written. But ITA that the CW doesn't show strong support for SV or SPN, which is a real shame, IMO.
Kahhhn
Jan 10, 2008 @ 6:40 pm
I understand why the CW doesn't support the show. Smallville is the networks past, they are trying to have a future and they know Smallville is almost done. It sucks, but it's understandable.

But don't they want back some of the fans that have fallen to the wayside?
I would think that this strike would give them an excellent opportunity to rebuild the excitement, that is assuming that the 15 are all we are getting for the season. I can't imagine that we'd get anything beyond a season 8. So, faced with a very very long hiatus, it would be a perfect time to pull in key episodes that have shaped the series and reair them prime time. Filter out all the filler episodes, stick to the big moments and promote the hell out it.
If season 8 is the last, people who left out of neverending lanatude or extend BDA time would be tempted to come back. It can't cost that much to edit together some promo's. The YouTube generation seems to manage just fine on a shoestring, why can't a network?

I doubt it's really worth it to put in the effort for a show that's on its way out. Smallville is doing well for them just by being Smallville. It's the new shows that need the attention in order to try and make them the kind of shows that they can build the network on when Smallville is gone.

Remember this summer how much the CW was promoting Gossip Girl and not SV or Supernatural at all... yet, both of those shows outdid Gossip Girl.
I'd say there's no way we'll be getting a Season 9. Of course, I'm sure if people look back far enough, they'd find me saying "there will never be a Season 8."
I know when I'm going in to writing the Season 7 book I'm doing it with the assumption that there's another season after this one. Though I may ask some "what would you think if it was over" questions just in case.

I remember the WB used to promote their old shows and their new shows together, which did get me interested in some of the new shows. Instead of focusing solely on new stuff, a mix like that would probably help entice old viewers of SV to new shows.
I'd say there's no way we'll be getting a Season 9.
Season 9 would be pressing it even more! I wonder what they'd think up for that!

Which puts a smile on my face. I think at this point, people are either into Smallville or they're not. Unless TPTB run the show into the ground, I don't see a ton of people not watching because a promo didn't air at a certain time.

I think that season 9 would only be a possibility if the CW was desperate and threw a ton of money at the cast to stick around, in addition to DC giving TPTB more freedom on what they can do on the show. That basically boils down to a 1 percent chance that Smallville will go 9.

Here's something I was wondering. Does/will Smallville have the most completed shows this season of a "regular" series? So many shows only have one or two episodes left to air before the season finale of the season and some didn't even complete their first 13 or production shut down while SV has another 5 or 6 left to air over the next couple of months.

http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...-Long/800026937Many have zero to 3 left. A surprising number have 5 to 7. Lost has 8, One Tree Hill has 10 left, and Men in Trees has 11! Once again the show proves itself mediocre. ; )

Let me guess it for you.
Lana will get her 25th stalker, Dark Side will open a void on SV to conquer Earth and after meeting Lana he will want her as her queen, Boobstein will have an affair with Perry White and a dying reporter will let her a story that will make her win her first Pulitzer.
Clana will get really cereal, real shot at their relationship after Lana confesed to Clark that her real hair color is red and that she changed it because it was what people expected from her, so of course Clana wasn't real before thus she changed it back.
Lex will have another Lana clone that will betray him for the delivery boy. Kara and Jimmy will have sex , Lionel will be bad again, then good, then bad repeat and rinse and Chloe will be hit by a third meteor shower rock that will make her ugly, stupid, mute and Chloevageless and got fired from the planet and kicked out of Met-U out being too stupid to report while pinning for Clark and Jimmy at the same time.
Shelby will get into a love triangle with Lex golden retriever and Streaky the Supercat.

Of course it got Lana's face in it and when it hits the hours it says: "Thecrets and lieths" in a whispering voice except at twelve O'Clock when it says: "My parents died on the first meteor shower"

I'm not doubting you, I'm just reporting on what the A Channel site is saying and the Toronto/Barrie site is still showing Smallville as airing Wednesdays at 8pm. The Victoria A Channel site, however, is showing the change to Sundays at 5pm, so it may only be affecting the BC affiliate, not the Ontario one. Or the Toronto/Barrie site hasn't been updated yet.

The above news is typical A-Channel and that was even before the Chum group was eaten by CTV. In my case, I have the digital box and can get SV on the Buffalo CW station. What is even more ludicrous is that SV airs nationwide on SPACE at 8:00 EST on Sundays as well. And I noticed that some other channel, maybe the Winnipeg CITY channel, was running "Lara" last night as well.

This article at the Hollywood Reporter about how ABC Studios force majeured 30 deals, has a sentence about WB tv:
Rumors are that Warner Bros. TV will terminate about 5-6 overall pacts next week, with other TV studios expected to follow.
So, my question is: Will this affect Smallville or Supernatural in any way? Or are these pacts that don't have any current production? Is another season of these two shows a sure thing? I know Supernatural is getting bounced around in the schedule and Smallville is an old expensive show. Should I be worried?

I really don't know that much about the biz, but from reading the article, it sounded like ABC scrapped development deals, not current programing. I would assume the WB did the same.
