I thought it'd be better to have a seperate thread for ratings and scheduling. I'm glad that the WB is putting Supernatrual after Smallville. I've said countless times that the two shows are very compatible and it would make more sense than Supernatural with GG or Smallville with Everwood. Finally the network uses common sense.
KatieFlirth
Manddoo posted the ratings for Vengeance in the Media thread.

From: MediaWeek
"Over at the WB the Thursday news remained positive, with Smallville at a 4.2/ 6 in the overnights (#4), 5.07 million viewers (#5) and a 2.3/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#5) at 8 p.m., followed by Beauty and the Geek at a 3.5/ 5 in the overnights (#5), 4.42 million viewers (#5) and a 2.1/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#5) at 9 p.m. Both series are likely to continue next season on the CW"

An hour of "That '70s Show" on FOX edged The WB's "Smallville," 3.3/5, for fourth"

That's so weird how That 70's Show is beating Smallville. I never found that show funny.
Nutty Goodness
That show is still on? Wow, I really do live in a bubble.
Blaire023
wow, i hadn't heard about the moving Supernatural to behind SV. That's awesome. And yeah, I totally agree, they seem like they'd have a chance if they were paired up.

A small qualm I have about Supernatural is the lack of female characters (I know why they don't have them but still) but other than that I'm ready to give it the chance I never gave Everwood.
scout1279
I actually like the fact that there's no female regular on Supernatural. It makes it stand out from all the other shows on the WB. It makes me feel like I'm safe from the annoying love triangles that plague the channel. Plus, a girl would just take time away from the prettiness of the Winchester Brothers.

Hasn't Smallville been beating That 70's Show in the ratings in previous weeks? I was kind of hoping for a significant ratings drop this week, because of my serious problems with what "Reckoning" did to the characterization of Clark Kent, but I'm not surprised that there wasn't one. On the surface "Reckoning" was a really good episode.

ETA: Why is there no episode on the last Thursday in February? What are they airing instead? I'm assuming it's not a repeat since it's still sweeps.
KatieFlirth
K-site has different numbers for last night's episode. They are even better.

#4 Four Kings (8:30-9)  NBC 4.9/7 (4.8/7)

#5 Smallville WB 4.2/6 (4.4/7)

#6 That 70's Show (8:30-9)  FOX 3.6/5 ® (3.9/6 ®)

#7 That 70's Show (8-8:30)  FOX 3.4/5 (3.7/6)

I'm quite surprise Smallville did so well despite Survivor's new season starting yesterday. Whatever is happening this year, it's really good for the show and it's reflecting on the ratings.
hc_8
Smallville beat That 70s Show last week, which is no surprise with all the hoopla over the 100th episode, but most weeks it comes in behind FOX though it's been close.

The WB have scheduled a movie (Just Married) for the final Thursday in sweeps. My guess is they don't see the point of putting Smallville up against AI which I think is due for one of two forays onto Thursday that day.
jayseyfield
I learned something after I watched tonight's Grey's Anatomy. If Smallville ever got the post-Superbowl slot that episode will have one of the following in its opening scene;

a.Lana modeling various lingerie.

b.Lana and Chloe naked and making out with each other in the shower.

Because football watching males will change the channel otherwise.
scout1279
That reminds me of when Alias had the post Superbowl slot. All the ads were of Sidney in lingerie, and the opening scene was of her modeling lingerie for some sleazy guy. But the scene ended with her strangling the guy and asking what was wrong with the first one she had on. It was like an indictment of the mindset. Somehow I feel that Smallville would glorify that whole thing. Isn't that why Lois is there?
jayseyfield
Isn't that why Lois is there?
How could I have forgotten her? How can you do a sleazy opening scene without Lois!?

Or Lana's body double ;)

An hour of "That '70s Show" was fourth in households for FOX, although The WB's "Smallville," 3.1/5, beat it in total viewers. UPN trailed with "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Love, Inc."
Manddoo
I wonder what the viewers number is. Anyone?
KatieFlirth
K-Site's numbers for Tomb.

#4 Four Kings (8:30-9)  NBC 4.8/7 (4.9/7)

#5 Smallville WB 4.0/6 (4.2/6)

#6 That 70's Show (8:30-9)  FOX 3.7/5 ® (3.6/5 ®)

#7 tie  Everybody Hates Chris (8-8:30) UPN 3.4/5 (3.1/5)

Sorry for double posting but it's been a while...

Fast National ratings for Cyborg.

From: Zap2it.com

[...]

The WB grabbed fourth in the demographic with a 2.4, beating FOX's 2.2. UPN trailed with a 1.2.

ABC took honors at 8 p.m. thanks to "Dancing with the Stars," 11.7/17, which beat both CBS' "Survivor," 9.9/15, and NBC's Olympic coverage, 9.6/14. "Smallville" finished fourth for The WB with a 3.4/5.

ETA: fixing tags.
Manddoo
It's higher than last week. I guess the Superman-y theme of the episode attracted a lot of viewers.
viola1
Thanks so much, KatieFlirth. That's awesome - so they got fourth. And with the fast ratings, don't they usually rate lower, and then when Craig posts his numbers, it gets a bump? - but here, they already got fourth. Go on, "Smallville". I can't wait to see what the afternoon numbers too...
I guess the Superman-y theme of the episode attracted a lot of viewers.

I think it must be, Manddoo. And unlike "Aqua", they were rewarded with a good eppy. Yay! :)

I hope they bring Victor back. Him and Bart need to come back to see Clark.
hc_8
The final ratings for "Cyborg" are in and it came very close to beating the viewer numbers for "Reckoning". According to abcmedianet.com Cyborg ranked at no. 58 overall (the WBs highest ranked show of the week) with 6.24 million viewers.
Massena1
On http://www.devotedtosmallville.com someone keeps an updated list of the Final ratings for each episode. They are accurate numbers so I've added the numbers for Cyborg now for people who are interested in comparison.

Wow! What is it with these DC guest star episodes? (Other than "Angel of Vengeance," at least.) They seem to do really well.

I'm wondering if any of these jumps have to do with showings that went up against reruns of other shows. I'm glad "Cyborg" did well -- it was one of my favorites of this season.
Massena1
People like cartoons? Maybe they get motivated b/c they want to see what "Smallville" will do with the characters?

I remember that a lot of new people posted on the "Aqua" episode thread to say they were Aquaman fans when they were kids. It was really sweet.

I'd say that 5 million are the diehard Smallville fans who watch for the main characters and the show has a potential for 1.5 million more depending upon the subject.
mobiusklein
I guess people are hoping Clark acts "super" in those episodes? Or perhaps people who are fans of those other guys pop in to see their faves.

Lexana doesn't seem to be a draw at all.
jdotmi

Well, BatChica wasn't really a DC guest star. She just wished she was.
Massena1
Yeah, I think if she had been Wonder Woman that number would have gone up a lot.
hc_8

"Cyborg" wasn't facing much in the way of repeats and it was up against a stronger than usual NBC (courtesy of the Olympics), plus new episodes of "Survivor" and "Dancing With the Stars" and I think UPN wasn't running repeats either so I really don't think this is due to a lack of competition.
Massena1
"Reckoning" did get the advantage of going up against a lot of repeats of other shows, but it also had a lot of hype so it probably would have done well regardless of the competition. "Cyborg" didn't really get any advantage except Fox pulling "That 70's Show" to air "Legally Blonde" which didn't do so well in the ratings. The Olympics are giving NBC better than usual numbers, but I read a news article that they underperformed after Day 3 forcing NBC to return advertisers money for failing to meet the ratings they were guaranteed.
viola1
Gosh thanks, Massena. That's cool to see all the numbers together, but *sigh* only 5 million for "Lockdown". That makes me sad. "Lexmas" I understand because it was like December 8, and I want to believe people were Christmas shopping. That's what I tell myself, *g*. But I can't say that for "Lockdown"; I wish I could. Maybe if they kept the title "Closer". :)

ETA:

I totally agree, "Cyborg" did awesome considering the competition. Go on, Cyborg!
beebs
Shit! I have to repeat the thread title but, Aqua was seen by how many viewers!?

Such a bad episode.
Manddoo
Lexana doesn't seem to be a draw at all.

That's what I noticed. Lexana and overall Lex episodes too?
KatieFlirth
Don't feel so sad with Lockdown's numbers, viola. Smallville was running against 'Dancing with the Stars' that day and well, it's no surprise it didn't have good rating. ABC's 'show' is a phenomenon I can't quite understand.

And Cyborg did really, really well. Good for SV. The episode was just fun and nice to watch.

Yeah, I think if she had been Wonder Woman that number would have gone up a lot.

With the good numbers they got for the DC's characters, they will end up bringing her next season. And Green Lantern. And Martian Manhunter. And...

But it's still running against "Dancing with the Stars" so I don't think that explanation works.
Frelling Tralk
Aqua probably did well because it's the fourth episode. Don't they always get a bump for some reason? Slumber had season 3's best ratings I think?

And Lex episodes have been doing badly for a while now. Lexmas was an episode a lot of people were expecting to do badly, considering it had the usual terrible placement in the midst of reruns, like most Lex episodes. And yet it performed strongly, and got an equal number to Exposed. And Exposed was among the episodes running without a break.

So I'm not sure that Lockdown's ratings say anything about Lexana appeal. Lexmas was strongly promoted as lexana, in the way that Lockdown wasn't, and managed to do really well
KatieFlirth
But it's still running against "Dancing with the Stars" so I don't think that explanation works.

Yeah, but when Lockdown aired 'Dancing with the Stars' had just premiered and that week something big happened (or so I remember my secretary saying something like that). *shrugs* don't really care.

And I didn't know Clana episodes had done so well, along with the Myths ones. The numbers are impressive (and I know people will say it's not because of them, but all episodes with the super pimping of Clana resulted in good ratings for the show).
Massena1
The episodes that broke the 6 million mark were "Aqua", "Solitude" "Reckoning" and "Cyborg." I think it's clear that the DC characters and the Superman elements are bringing in new viewers this season.

Also "Dancing with the Stars" like all competition shows has gotten more exciting as it has gone along. It has seen major ratings jumps (reaching series highs) in the last 2 weeks when it went up against "Tomb" and "Cyborg." Although, it doesn't seem to be pulling from "Smallville's" audience really.
scout1279
Yeah, I think if she had been Wonder Woman that number would have gone up a lot.

Thank God WW has a movie in development and we won't have to see what the Smallville PTB would do to her. She used to top my DC character wishlist for this show, but they can't right women for shit. Frankly, I didn't understand why they didn't make BatChica The Huntress (the version from JLU, not the daughter of Batman and Catwoman). I know it might have caused BoP confusion, but given how few people watched that show, I don't think most people would have cared.
mobiusklein
Yeah, WW would be forced to coo praises of Lana about how strong she is. Gross.
Zycron

That makes sense. Ideally, this show should be about young Superman with appearances from other cool young superheros, ie, the DC gang. It's something you don't see on the other networks. I hope they build on that aspect and drop all the goopy Lanaville twu wuv "shipper" crap.
jayseyfield
I saw a Smallville/Supernatural thursday night promo today while watching SN, anyone else excited? I like the move for a number of reasons;

-I can stop changing the channel to avoid Everwood/Beauty and the Geek

-I've been saying SV/SN should be on the same night for some time now. Nice to see tv execs make a common sense move for a change.

-Lana and Jason. I didn't really like them as a couple or anything I just like the fact that they're on neighboring shows for some reason. Would it have killed the WB promo guys to put split screen shot of Lana and Dean in the promo?
PepSinger
I saw that promo, too. I am so happy they are going to be on the same night.
jayseyfield
I just wish they could have dubbed it something cool like ABC's "TGIF", or NBC's "Must-See-TV" or CBS' short lived "Big Fat Greek Monday."
jwm
You mean like "Must-HoYay-Thursday"?
PepSinger
Excellent, jwm.
suzycat
Big Gay Thursday.

Just think, though, of the femmeslash possibilities if WW was on the show, cooing about Lana's strength. "You don't need a man, Lana! The Amazon women blah blah blah..."
meloni
I'm ambivalent to the change. I think they work together much better thematically than Smallville and Everwood, but it makes it easier to record House and harder to record The Office.
scout1279

Do you watch Robot Chicken? Real World: Metropolis did something very similar with WW ad Catwoman.

But the fact that Lana is the one she would be cooing over is exactly why I would die if they ever had WW on the show.
jayseyfield
You mean like "Must-HoYay-Thursday"?
That's great but does Supernatural have HoYay? The Deans are two brothers so I guess it's more BroYay.

How about Super Thursdays? Because Smallville is about a young Superman and immediatley afterwords is Supernatural. Not the most original but I threw it out there.

I'm just happy I won't have to hear "AMERICA'S GOT ITS GEEK ON!!" while waiting for the previews.
jayseyfield
I'm curious, if the show got cancelled tommorow how would you feel? Good? Bad? Indifferent?
DarkPriestess
sad, but relieved. I really don't want to see what further damage AlMiles can do to the characters, but I can't look away either. So if Smallville was cancelled the choice (and the painul addiction) would be taken out of my hands. Also, Chlois wouldn't be ruled out!
