I'm a big Becker Fan and this is the first time I've tried to start a Topic, so Mods, be tolerant of me. I found this show in repeats and really enjoy it. The acting, characters, everything works for me. Does anyone else enjoy this show as much as I do or am I alone in this?

My husband screams whenever it comes on and rushes to find the remote. I worked with a grandma who really liked it (no offense to grandmas!). I admit to watching it back when I only got 4 channels over an antenna, but .... Sorry.

I like it when I see it but it's one of those shows I never went out of my way to watch. I really liked the two women who worked in Becker's office. It was one of those shows though that did go on just that bit too long as the shows from the last season or two were pretty tired.

I thought Ted Dansen was really good in that role and it was a well-written, complex part. I also liked Linda and Margaret and most of the office scenes. I didn't care much for the diner scenes or people, except they did some funny and insightful blind jokes. One of my favorite epis was the one where Becker's on the subway helping Frances Sternhagen get to Ground Zero. He was so funny and touching in that one. But often the comedy was too broad and silly for me.

I LUV Becker. Too bad I didn't pay attention to it when it was on CBS. It's a great show. Ted Danson does a great job displaying Becker's conflicted persona -- He's a people hating humanitarian.

I liked a lot for the first few years it was on. It had a really strong cast that worked well together. Like a lot of shows, it started going down hill when they brought in the idea of a possible romance between Becker and Reggie, and ultimately the show basically fell off a cliff after she left.

This was one of those shows that I'd watch and if asked for a reason I probably couldn't come up with something better than " ... It's on."
On the plus side I think the writers and Danson hit the right note for Dr. Becker being "politically incorrect", but not in a hateful way and not just for it's own sake ( I'm talking to you, The War At Home. ) They also had a good strong ensamble cast. Many shows would be happy to have a strong group and setting like the diner or Becker's office -- here's a show that offers both.
On the minus side I can't remember another network show that ran so long that looks so cheap. Many shows get away with having 2 primary sets -- or even one -- but on Becker it just looked cheap, cheap, cheap. I think a big part of it was the processed video segues. Every time I saw them I'd think " Is this public access ? "

I much prefered the relationship with Nancy Travis's character- Reggie was my least favorite character, so the episodes without her were just fine. The few episodes I've seen with Jorge Garcia (who I love as Hurley on LOst)-his character doesn't work for me. I usually prefer sitcoms with more of an edge. I'm a big fan of both versions of "The Office" and Arrested Development, but Becker is like comfort food for me. Perhaps because I never saw it before it was repeats, it seems new to me. I'm glad there's a couple other people out there who enjoy it also.

I found this in repeats too, and I really enjoy it. Loved the one where Becker goes into a bar and the bartender is George Wendt... priceless.

What is good about this is that Ted Danson could shed his sort of Crass Ladies Man persona that he did on Cheers and kept doing permutations of afterwards.
I think the cheapness added to the flavor of the show--this wasn't, say, "The John Larroquette Show" or anything, but it didn't take place in the nicest neighborhoods and if you examine it, everyone had pretty pathetic lives.

I occasionally watch this show when nothing else is on. I am a bit confused though regarding the characters. Why was the Bob character no longer on the show? What happened to the original actress who played the lady who owned the diner?

I have just recently starting watching Becker repeats. I am really enjoying the show. It has as excellent supporting cast with the exception of the lady with the curly blonde hair. I find her very annoying and like the shows with Reggie much better.
What happened to the original actress who played the lady who owned the diner?
She (Reggie) left the diner and moved to Florida (I think that's the state she moved to).

I'm a big fan of Becker myself. I loved to watch the episodes of the show when they'd come on. New or rerun. Ted Dansen did such a good job in the role.

My fave episode so far is the one where the gentleman is pissed to find out he is NOT dying afterall. He mentions to Dr. Becker how he told off his wife, his boss and the IRS and how he blew most of his money on lap dances: "I had a loooooooooot of lap dances." Haha.

I have to admit that I haven't seen a lot of these shows, but I saw one that had me on the floor. Everyone thought he was on drugs since they found him with a bag full of them and they overreacted accordingly. He actually had a patient who was given all of the drugs and he was trying to understand what they were all supposed to do. I can't remember any of the jokes, but I just remembered it as being really funny! I also thought he was interviewing for a job with a hospital or something. I suck at remembering things. lol
