Has anyone else seen Dr. Joy Browne's show on Discovery Health Network? If not, you are in for a treat. I was flipping thru channels and was so impressed by Joy. What a gem, a psychologist who is hip, smarter than Freud, non judgmental and sooooo quick on her feet, yet very compassionate and funny!! Lurve Her.

Is this the same Joy Browne that has or had a radio show. If so, I recoil at the thought of her. She's the queen of trite and useless psycho-babble!

Joy Browne had a terrible terrible talk show about 6 years ago. It was completely unwatchable...as she shoved her "compassion" in our faces. She is the most vapid, pedestrian, useless person I can imagine. Not to mention that she's Mieskeit. "Queen of trite and useless psycho-babble" really fits.

I don't care for the way she jumps on people when they're trying to share their story. If she doesn't believe in something (like an emotional affair) then it's not real, and woe to the caller, because then it's the caller's fault her husband strayed.

Are you sure you're not confusing her with "Dr" Laura? I think what Joy says about affairs is that it says a lot about the marriage, but I don't think I've ever heard her say that an adulterous affair is the FAULT of the cheated-on spouse!

There must be some confusion between Joy & "Dr. Laura" (who is not a Dr. at all)- I find Joy to be very good, giving very solid advice. Yes, she did have a lousy talk show a few years ago, but I blame that on the producers who were probobly trying to mimic other advice shows, it wasn't a good fit.

But her radio show is excellent, IMO - worth catching. She is down to earth and I'll never forget her excellent shows right after 9-11. She lives in NYC and spoke as a psychologist and as an affected resident...very moving. Her advice on relationships is rock solid.

On the other hand, Laura is a shrill harpy who gives reactionary advice that is more mean spirited than realistic. Just my opinion.

Dr Laura is a Ph.D. as is Joy. However, Joy's is in psychology while Laura's is in physiology.

I adore Dr Joy and listen to her online. I'm interested to know if she has a new TV show.

I used to always love listening to Dr. Joy. I even called her once in the 90's and she gave me difficult advice I did not want to hear about a dead-end relationship, but she was ultimately right.

I never get a chance to hear her radio show anymore since I never am in my car when she is on and I never listen to the radio at home. So I tuned in to her Discovery Health Channel show and I must say I was disappointed. I liked her a lot better when I was single and childless.

She actually told a woman with a 2 month old baby she needed to go out and get a job. (And it had nothing to do with the problem she was calling about.) Never mind who was supposed to watch this tiny baby while her mother went out and worked but it just pissed me off. A baby that small needs his mama-- even most maternity leaves are longer than that! So as a new mom that really upset me and I am not sure I respect Dr. Joy anymore. I also heard her make some really ignorant and uninformed comments about breastfeeding.

She just seems to want to push her own agenda on people, much like Dr. Laura. Dr. Laura is just on the opposite side, telling women they must all stay at home and raise kids.

I've always heard good things from Joy about breastfeeding. However, that topic doesn't come up a lot that I've heard. I've not heard of maternity leave over 6 weeks. You are really fortunate.

The aggravating thing about her radio show is that it's 3 hrs, but the internet part of it is only 2. Grrrr. Plus it's over the noontime and I'm generally gone for a chunk of that time. Guess I'll have to learn about Ipods and such.

Is DHC filming new episodes of The Dr. Joy Browne Show? I just started watching a couple of weeks ago and have noticed that all of the eps seem to be from last September.

I haven't seen her show but I used to listen to her radio show. I loved it. I only stopped listening because I move to an area that didn't carry the show.

I always wondered why she isn't more popular, like Dr. Phil. I think she is so much better than he is and much less obnoxious.

She used to have a radio talk show in Boston in the late 70s -- I found her mildly interesting. At one point in her past she was one of Joe Kennedy Sr's physical therapists (or aide of some sort) and she would dish on Rose being so cheap she'd charge employees for coffee, and didn't want her husband having the better kind of orange juice.

That seems odd about Joy. She's never been a PT but I suppose she could have been an aide of sorts. I don't get the connection, tho. She first started at a university studying engineering, then switched, I believe to psych. I've never heard/read of any attempts at being an aide. I didn't know she had been on the air since her early 30's. I'm guessing her age is under 55. Still is dicey getting her show online. Grrr.
