From abc.com:

Cristina Yang has little sympathy for Constance Ferguson (special guest star Rosanna Arquette), a prison inmate who jeopardizes her health just to get out of solitary confinement. Meanwhile the interns all keep careful watch on the family of premature quintuplets with a variety of serious health challenges, Izzie's anger at Alex reaches boiling point, and Dr. Addison Shepherd decides to teach Izzie a very painful lesson.
flux
Bailey = MamaBear. Hahah. Rosanna Arquette was good.

And did the preview say what I think it said?? McD at the bar, with Meh?
Colonel Green
Dogs solve everything; seriously, I have a cocker spaniel. He's awesome.

I wager this episode will be Izzie's Emmy reel. She was terrific.

A lesser show would have had Alex pull some miracle remedy, both for his patient and the situation with Izzy; I was glad that didn't happen.
Alden
DOG!

And also

OLIVIA!

And Izzy verbally slapping poeple is fun.
Lara_2113
"Why not? You've slept with everyone else."

Ow. It bites.

Called Addison's 'lesson' to Izzie - and, more cheerily, 'Doc'. Hee! Points to the writers (casters?) for not picking Yet Another Yellow Lab.

When the prison patient asked Cristina to talk to her, I half-expected another racy bedtime story.
animalnurse
So George is a leech charmer, but dogs he runs from? Heh.
jandj
Awesome episode. I think I missed the early dog reference. Why did they get a dog and more importantly, how are three surgical interns who practically live at the hospital going to take care of a pooch. They need to be walked and loved and such. I did love that George was afraid of it though.

Why must McD live in a trailer? Why can't he build a house on that land?
DrCher
Happy to see the mainstream addressing cosleeping in a positive manner.
jewlmc
Great episode!

Thank GOD they didn't go anywhere with the George/Olivia thing. I wanted to put a leech on that guys mouth when he was telling him to make up with his "girlfriend". *puke* That really cut me when George said "Alright. I love her" Damn he's so far gone. *sigh*

I hate the Shepheards and their stupid "lessons". Eff them!

The Christina story bored me to tears.

And next week! "Santa threw up" Ha! Bet there is some wierd ass O'Malley Christmas tradition that makes him hate it. And also Alex/George!!! Whee! When is the last time we got a good scene between just them?
Sunidesus

Bailey = MamaBear. Hahah.
Hee! Totally agree. I loved her baby talk and then immediately, "I am not going soft!" as soon as she realized Xtina was watching her.

Why must McD live in a trailer? Why can't he build a house on that land?
Thank you! He seems to have plenty of money, so why not build something nice and "nature-friendly" to enjoy all that beautiful nature?
ParadiseFound
Okay, was I the only one pissed off that TPTB want the audience to like Addison so much that they have to HIT US OVER THE HEAD with the fact that "really she's a nice person, but she just had to do that to Izzie to make her a better doctor" *PUKE* The scene with Dr. Webber was overkill.

I loved, loved, loved the scenes with Mer and McD.... they are so damn cute together and have so much chemistry. I'm such a shipper it is pathetic. I can't wait until next week! I'm sure it's nothing, but I just can't wait to see them together.

I love that the roomies got a dog! Very fitting. I'm getting a dog in a few days as well.
pinkbird

Points to the writers (casters?) for not picking Yet Another Yellow Lab.
Yeah, but they picked a mutt terrier. Even more painfully unoriginal than a lab.
Curare
I liked the ep a great deal. The scene with Christina, Izzie and George where Christina is all, "Are you going to kill yourself?" It was really funny.
sopreppypink
Yes, McDreamy did say what you thought he said in the previews!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WendyCR72
Dear Addison: You're a cold bitch, just as I knew you were. I get she was trying to teach Izzy her "doctorly wisdom", but to basically torture an infant to do so...she sucks. Izzy should've clocked her.

Speaking of Izzy, I liked the Meh/Alex/Izzy dynamic this week. And the fight with Meh was realistic. All friends sometimes use another friend's flaws against them. The peace offering with the cute pooch at the end was a sweet resolution. :-)

Who is Skanky Nurse Olivia to lecture anyone? (Even if she did have a point where George/Meh was concerned.)

LOVED Bailey talkin' baby talk to one of the quints. I freaking love her.

The triangle did not swallow the show this week. YAY!

And even if Alex is an ass, I did feel badly for him and am glad Derek stopped being an ass for two seconds to share his own patient killing anecdote.

Finally, prison woman...Rosanna Arquette is a fine actress, but it is the only plot I did not get into.

And ANOTHER new episode next week...and BACK to triangle fun. :-P

I heart this show!
flux

Why must McD live in a trailer? Why can't he build a house on that land?
Addison wants to move closer in-land since McD's property is on an island. I think he would build a house there but Addison doesn't want to live so far away. Plus, he has an awesome view.
armadillos81
Ok, good episode but after the scene with Addison and Richard I thought Izzie's battle would be a little more dramatic. I wonder if they ended up cutting some scenes in there. Derek and George need hair cuts, stat.
Redpockets
It's official-- I can't hate Mrs. McDreamy. I can't. What's more, I might be leaning towards that particular emotion with her husband which is absolutely horrifying. I want to love him, I do, but it's not happening.

I don't think I could be Izzy's friend in real life, but I do feel bad for her. That's a sucky lesson to have to learn, no matter how good the results are.

And as a final note, I kinda hope George and Olivia get back together. They have more chemistry than half the couples on this show (I love them all for the most part but it's true), and the last thing I want for either George OR Meredith is for them to hook up. I have a feeling that wouldn't go well for either of them.
jandj

Points to the writers (casters?) for not picking Yet Another Yellow Lab.
Yeah, but they picked a mutt terrier. Even more painfully unoriginal than a lab.
So true. The new dog on Gilmore Girls is also a terrier. They should've gone with a shepard mix- the brown and black ones that languish in shelters for forever. I'm just sayin'.
jewlmc
Ew! I hope this is the LAST we see of skanky Olivia. Even if George can't get Meh or Izzy he deserves better than her.
Sabrina81

Okay, was I the only one pissed off that TPTB want the audience to like Addison so much that they have to HIT US OVER THE HEAD with the fact that "really she's a nice person, but she just had to do that to Izzie to make her a better doctor" *PUKE* The scene with Dr. Webber was overkill.
It also explained how competent Izzy was. Also I thought it was supposed to be paralleling the Alex/Derrick situation.

Also even though it makes no sense, I want Alex/Addison to hook up. Hehe!

Also the Mer/Derrick trailer stuff was ick. Who wants to live in a trailer?

ETA: I guess building a house is okay. Also yay for Izzy getting a dog er a real dog.
prodigalchicken
Okay, if that was supposed to make me like Addison, it failed. I really like her much less now than I did before.
Racj82
Thoughts on tonight's episode:

I can relate to Izzie in this episode. When you have been wronged by someone and your friends continue to talk to that person it feels like you've been stabbed in your back. Even if you are overeacting.

I can also relate to George. It's hard when your in love with someone and those feelings wont go away. Also, the fact that you will probably always be that asexual friend to them.

The thing I love about this show more than anything is the way the characters always in character. They dont do anything that seems out of place for that character.

Yang being judgemental.
Izzie getting over emotional.
Alex continuing to do the wrong thing and trying to right that wrong after the fact.
You get the point.

Also Im glad McDreamy lightened up at the end. He actually had me feeling sorry for Alex even after what he has done to my Izzie.
ParadiseFound

Yes, McDreamy did say what you thought he said in the previews!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hold up, let's not get overly excited. All he said was "you should spend Christmas with the one (or ones) you love"

He could just be speaking in general. We don't know yet. I'm can't get too excited or I'll be pissed if it is some criptic remark with meaning behind it. Even though we the audience KNOW he loves Mer and she loves him and he shouldn't be with Addison, and that's all these episodes with them in forced situations is proving to me.

Sorry to run on... I get so emotional about them.
BostonsKrissy
Great episode, love how the web of relationship's just gets even more and more entangled as the story plot continues. I had an idea last episode of who and who would hook up, but now, I'm just confuzzled! So many different ways you could go, and they would all be great entertainment.

And loved seeing Izzie be a bitch. I was getting sick of her being all pathetic and loveable.
jandj

Yes, McDreamy did say what you thought he said in the previews!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, but we couldn't see who he was talking to...
Lara_2113

"Okay, viewers, Addison's about to do something really harsh, but don't hate her for it, okay? It's for Izzie's own good. Ready? Here we go!"

Also, I'm surprised no one brought up Izzie's rapport with Addison when she was telling off Meredith for 'fraternizing with the enemy'. They made a huge deal about Izzie not choosing to be mad at her for her friend's sake, then dropped it.
pinkbird

They should've gone with a shepard mix
They have a shepard mix - one red haired, one dark...oh, you meant dogs, didn't you? Some people think the Shepards are that too. Y'know, the doctors... OK, I have to go to bed now.
Yarnia
I am seriously feeling a Burke/Izzy thing. If this whole weird/semi-awsome Christina thing doesn't work out, there could be a Bizzy in our future.

Love George layin' the smackdown on nurse Syph. BITCH!

Meh is still partying way too much, so quit laying it thick on Alex.

They are really making Addison hard to hate now that she is staying on the cast. Really enjoying her character, but am not feeling her with McDreamy.

Couldn't feel bad for the mom, even though I have 2 kids. You take the fert. drugs and they monitor you and tell you when you can have sex. The quintuplets come from having sex even though you aren't supposed to just because you want kids. Very selfish, so I just can't get into that storyline the way they want me to.

"I have an idea" say Meh, and then the scary claw hand comes down. Seriously, they need make-up on Pompeo's hands.

And my biggest gripe of the night....why the HELL did they get a dog? Oh yeah, great for them....but how great is it for the dog. How often are the interns actually home to take care of the thing? It was an older dog, so what if it starts to go crap on the carpet or isnt' "fun" anymore. Very, VERY self-centered.
tvobssessed
This was a pretty lackluster episode.

Patient storylines bored me to death. They didn't focus as much on the quints as I though they would. Stupid Nurse-Syph is back in the picture. Too many MerDer moments. Good Lord, Izzie is starting to irritate me.

And if Mer/Alex actually go anywhere, I'm never watching this show again.
Bella Lumina

I did love that George was afraid of it though.
I think it was just another sign from the gods that George really is my TV soulmate.

And a big YAY to the preview from this D/M 'shipper! They may have totally misrepresented the context of the scene, but I also totally don't care. He so loves her, and he has all along...
sopreppypink
I definitely saw Meredith - since when does Addison hang out at Joe's anyway? ANd the VO said "...and facing the truth."
soccered
Okay, I missed it. What exactly was Addison's lesson to Izzy?
ultimategirl
Go Izzy for telling people off! Okay, you overreacted with "Meredith was all over [Alex]," but seriously people, be a little bit supportive. Yes, she should have seen it was a going to be a trainwreck, but "I told you so" helps no one.

Did we know that Meredith was such a post-college loser before now? I vaguely remember some spec related to that, but I haven't seen all of season one (and I miss things), so I'm not sure if we've learned this before now.

Also, George needs to get over Meredith, stat. It's boring, and just makes him seem sad, even though in real life I would probably feel bad for him. Actually, in real life, I would probably have a crush on him and hate him for obsessing over that Meredith bitch.
Beffers
I thought ( for the first 45 mins )the ep was very medical and very lacking in the essential McD/Meh-ness that to me is needed, to make a great episode a kick ass one so I was all set to post in very cerebral, detached way...but then we had that "You're still you ? " I'm still me " bit and I am blown away. I got nothing now.
Absolutely freaking nothing. My brain is mush. Best freaking Meh/McD moment in S2 so far, that didn't involve hair sniffing.
Beffers
Ignore this. My computer messed up. Sorry.
ParadiseFound

Patient storylines bored me to death. They didn't focus as much on the quints as I though they would.
I agree. I couldn't have cared less about the prisoner patient. I found that whole thing very annoying. Same with the too much sodium guy.... who cares????
jandj

Okay, I missed it. What exactly was Addison's lesson to Izzy?
I don't really get it either. Don't get too close to your patients because they'll die? But Izzie's had patients die on her before, right? And I didn't think that she was overly attached to her quint, no more so than the other interns.
Redpockets

I thought the exact same thing! I mean, I wanted to be happy for them-- all "ooh look at the cute dog! Haha he chases George, how precious"-- but all I could think about was "What happens to him when they're on call for three days straight?" If you're a surgeon and you want a pet, get a cat. Or a hermit crab. Those things take care of themselves.

I thought ( for the first 45 mins )the ep was very medical and very lacking in the essential McD/Meh-ness that to me is needed, to make a great episode a kick ass one so I was all set to post in very cerebral, detached way
See, I think I'm in a very small minority here because I couldn't care less about McD and Meredith getting back together. The whole situation is just irritating.
flux

They have a shepard mix - one red haired, one dark...oh, you meant dogs, didn't you?
Hee. That was good.

I don't understand why Addison would project something so painful on another person, especially when she had gone through it herself. Wouldn't she find some other way to "teach" Izzie then to torture and lie to her?

What happens to him when they're on call for three days straight?
Dog walker anyone? I'm sure there are people who would kill for a job like that. Or they can hire some kids to do it for them.
Rant
soccered, Addison knew that Baby Emily was going to die regardless of any treatment, but she left Izzie in charge anyway; she said that it was Izzie's responsibility to keep the baby alive all night. The lesson Izzie was supposed to take away from it was to step back from her patients and not get so emotionally involved, that way she wouldn't repeat the pain she felt when Emily died. In the meanwhile, the whole thing proved to Addison how capable Izzie is as a physician - she stayed all night, dedicating to keeping the infant alive.

I've only watched the season since AB Chao started recapping (what can I say? I've been her bitch since Everwood), so I hadn't jumped on any 'ships. Mer and Derek seem to have really great chemistry, but I'd like to see them as just friends. The ones I wonder about are George and Izzie. I kept thinking during the Leech Patient's naming of the pets that George was getting the idea that Izzie really needed him more than his sniping at Olivia or panting over Mer. It's too bad they didn't go that route.
ParadiseFound

Beffers-- I'm right there with you! I melted! He basically admitted to her that he still wants her.... I know he didn't say that, but it's not like he can right now.

I don't understand why Addison would project something so painful on another person, especially when she had gone through it herself. Wouldn't she find some other way to "teach" Izzie then to torture and lie to her?
flux-- yes! So just because Addison went through it, that means she has to put Izzie through it???? Give me a break... I thought that was very unoriginal of Addison, this is an intern program, not a hazing!
winebox
I loved Mere's idea of putting the two babies together-- now that there are only four, why not put the other two in an isolette together?

Poor Izzie-- she was unjustly tortured.

Rosanna Arquette murdering because she didn't want to be sans boyfriend???? That's kind of pathetic, no???

Alex-- feel sorry for him, but he fucked up. And I really don't hate Olivia like everyone else does.
Beffers
Yeah, I am clueless on Izzies "big" lessson too. WTF ? I loved how Izzie said " it will make me a better doctor " with such distain in her voice. You could sooooo see her thinking " Well unlike you, you cold hearted bitch, I'd really prefer to be a better "person", but maybe that's just me "

How cool was it for McD to share that little snippet with Alex, from his own past ?

Loved Meh not wanting McD to give up the trailer. Unlike McS, she gets how much peace he gets from living on his land and lets him get on with it. Another indicator that McS really just doesn' get her husband.
It's Always Something
I get very creepy vibes from Addison and Chief convos.

And I suspect the dog that is yet to be named (anybody want to get a little pool going?) will be spending a lot of time at Joe's.

Loved Mama Bear Bailey's hoochy coochy banter with the quints.

Interesting how McSatan still has to do all the chasing. Also that George is privvy to MerDer stolen moments and she's not. So the audience knows what she doesn't: that McDreamy still isn't over Mer. And until he's not, wifey won't inhabit his trailer the way Mer does.
pickering
I thought at first that Emily wasn't really dead, that the nurse was told to tell Izzy that as part of the "lesson", but I couldn't figure out why. Then when Dory was holding the infant, I thought it confirmed that Emily was indeed alive. Alas, she wasn't, so I was all wrong.
Curare
I don't hate Olivia either.
Lila82

Oh, I think they are totally playing this *so* right by making Addison likable. I wasn't even a Syd/Vaughn 'shipper on "Alias," but the writers blew their entire show to hell by introducing Lauren and trying to make her so likable we'd be torn by the triangle. To say it didn't work is an understatement. The trick to a good triangle is making the opposing partners equally likable so the viewers are okay with either pairing, even if they prefer one pairing to the other. My intense Shepard hates makes this difficult for me, but from an objective point of view, Meredith and Addison are equally intelligent, pretty, snarky women -- he's just not deserving of either. This is clearly a triangle, and if anything, I think the insta-Shepard/Meh love is the weak link, not making Addison likable.

Okay, I missed it. What exactly was Addison's lesson to Izzy?
She needs to stop getting attached to her patients and making it personal. It's a problem of Addison's as well, and Derek scolded her for it in the episode with the crack baby. I guess Izzie invested herself way too far into Dody's life, and Addison was tired of her judging everyone.

And if Mer/Alex actually go anywhere, I'm never watching this show again.
Me too! Other than being easy, I don't really see Meredith's appeal. I love her friendship with Alex and their snarky banter, but it needs to stop at friendship.

How cool was it for McD to share that little snippet with Alex, from his own past ?
Hate McD, but love the resident/intern relationships the writers are building. Geogre/Burke, Izzie/Addison, Christina/Bailey, Alex/Shepard...guess it's just Meh left out in the cold.
jandj

So just because Addison went through it, that means she has to put Izzie through it???? Give me a break... I thought that was very unoriginal of Addison, this is an intern program, not a hazing!
I agree but so much of teaching in medicine is like that. All the attendings before you had to fight through the same shit, so they make the underlings do it too.
VeronicaNC

Dear Addison: You're a cold bitch, just as I knew you were. I get she was trying to teach Izzy her "doctorly wisdom", but to basically torture an infant to do so...she sucks. Izzy should've clocked her.
The baby wasn't suffering. She was dying and they had her on all the pain meds she could have. If doctors and nurses get too attatched, particularly in that specialty, they are going to have their hearts broken a lot. My brother-in-law's niece had a problem with her heart, there was nothing they could do but make the baby comfortable while she died.

I am not a shipper. I just don't see the Meh/Deh some of you do. I know some of that is my dislike of PD which makes me dislike his character.

I cannot wait to see how everyone except Izzie ands together to help Alex pass his boards. Or will she let go of her anger and end up helping him too?
