There's no thread for Nurse Olivia? Girl deserves her own thread, so here it is.

I call her the little redheaded girl because:
(a) shes' a redhead (duh!) and
(b) She is so like the Little Redheaded Girl to George O'Malley's Charlie Brown.

...well, except Charlie Brown never contracted syphilis, to my knowledge.

Anyway, discuss.

I like Olivia! I wanna know more! Was she in a relationship with Alex or were they just sleeping together? If it was the latter..that doesn't really seem like her, from what we saw of her and George together. I think she deserves better than Alex (who gives her syph and is kind of an asshole, though I still love him) and George (I LOVE George, but he shouldn't be with her if he's in love with Meredith). I think Olivia needs to find someone nice to be with. Like Izzie.
tvjunkie2008
If we're going to have to wait to get any Gizzie screentime, I want Olivia back so George can have someone finally. Plus, she was kinda awesome.

George doesn't want Olivia though..
but agreed that I want George with someone

I thought he did like her. The reason he broke it off was he liked someone else more and didn't want to string her along.

Well..yeah. So he needs to get over his Meredith love before he him+Olivia can hook up again. Even though I still want her to be the one who's gay so that Alex and George can try to prove that they had no affect on it and try to out-man eachother
jewlmc
I don't want Olivia and George to hook up again. She's sweet and nice....and George is sweet and nice and zzzzzzzzzzz

A character like George needs somone with fire to give him a good story. Not that he can't be interesting on his own, but two sweet/nice people would be dull. Izzie is sweet but she's got spirit. Even Meredith is more interesting. Short them putting George with either one of them they need to bring on someone to drive George crazy. Afterall he's at his best when he's neurotic about something.

As for Olivia, I think she's great as a tertiary character.

This is exactly why I'm not a Gizzie shipper. I don't want Olivia/George back together, just if they were going to, it would have to be after his Meredith love ends. I think we need a new character for George to love.
jewlmc
The difference with Gizzie, IMO, is that Izzy has some fire to her, plus she and George have that great snark/banter thing going. But I that is a ways down the road.

Hee. I thought it would be funny if George hooked up with Olivia, but then she turned out like that "band camp" psycho from American Pie.
gl_shark
I never got into the G/O pair up. It seemed to me the writers only created her for George's syph storyline. There was no romance leading up to their hookup. We never even saw him ask her out. Then ABC ordered season 2 and they brought her back to wrap things up.
Still, they were a cute pair on screen and I love the "Little Redheaded Girl" title.
tvjunkie2008
I just want George with someone, so we can get some SweetRomanticGeorge, and I can add someone else to my list of fantasy boyfriends.
Beffers
I never quite got the Olivia/Alex hookup. Her being into him I get, what with the allure of the whole bad boy machismo stuff. But she doesn't strike me as his type. She cute, but not in a big-fake-breasts-with-platinum blonde-stripper-hair-and a body-to-die-for-squeezed-into-a-pair-of-skintight-leopardskin-pants-and-O-so-obviously-hot way, that I think a shallow jerk like Alex would be into.
tvjunkie2008
Yeah, that's why I want more backstory between Olivia and Alex. Was she a one-night stand? Did they date for a while? Was it anything serious?
sarah1225
Amen. That's why I want more Olivia, so we can learn more about her. And hopefully Alex too.
I checked, and in the season finale Olivia says she was "already kind of seeing somebody" when she met George.

But Alex doesn't seem like the type who would see someone like Olivia more than once. Yeah, they left so many unanswered questions with Olivia that they really need to bring her back.

I was rewatching Season 1, Episode 7 (the one with the cute little girl who has have half her brain removed), and in the scene where Alex finds the infected tattoo on his wrestler pain-loving patient, the nurse in the room is Olivia!! Could this have been the encounter that lead to their "relationship"??

That is a very good theory sjoanzors. I definitely never would have thought of that. But once again, the unanswered questions are going to bug me.
Taiichi
Maybe I should have gone "Band-Camp Girl" instead of "L.R.G." in the thread title, after all!

I'm not rightly sure how to react to her tonight, depending on whether she was aware of AlexZie or not, although I imagine she must have known about it. It will certainly be an issue next week, regardless.
markedel
The CTV preview regarding her crazy awkwardness is amusing. I feel sorry for her. She's cute. If only her competition wasn't merely too damn hot, but also too darn nice.
flux
I thought Izzie was going to slap her in the elevator. Too bad Olivia got a taste of Alex and not Izzie. The previews were hilarious though.

I thought she said she was over Alex when George was doing the "You gave me syphilis" line. Ah well, I want her to stay around, I like her.
youdidntseeme23
Ah, what the hell. I guess I like her.

1) I love the fact that she is so (just in case for those on the West Coast) whorish.

2) I think she's kinda cute, and funny too.

I like her with Alex way better than Olivia and George, or Alex and Izzie.
angelamyte
I'm pissed that she actually followed Alex's order to run 500cc's per hour for FOUR HOURS! Is she psycho?! As a nurse, for the love of GOD, you should be able to think and realize that 500 CCS PER HOUR FOR FOUR HOURS is a little overboard...sorry for that rant, but Olivia is getting to me. I'm angry because I'm studying nursing, and this misconception that all nurses do is follow doctor's orders without realizing the implications of what you're doing is making me wish that this protrayal of nurses was a tad more accurate.
kath741
I agree, no matter what the doctor says the nurse is suppose to double check it, I think a lot of the time the nurse knows more than the doctor. A doctors just a jack of all trades. Just my opinion...
Erasmus Wembly
I'm disappointed at the venom directed at the character of Olivia in the discussion threads after the last two episodes. From the derogatory "Nurse Syph" to the double standard labeling her a slut to some saying she's ugly, a lot of people are acting like Olivia deliberately hurt their best pal Izzie. It sounds like I'm in the minority, but I really like the character. To me, she is the Everywoman. She's not the tall, beautiful, blonde ex-model that all the men drool over. She's the nice woman who would be a great partner in life, if men (e.g., George) would just get over their infatuation with women who are prettier, more sophisticated, or whatever.

Any other members of the Olivia Fan Club out there? Okay, fan club may be overdoing it, anybody else feel the way I do?
flux
I like Olivia. I have nothing against her. She's a good match for George as I've said before and I think her and George will make a good couple. I don't get all the hate towards her either. It's not like she's broke up Alex and Izzie on purpose, she didn't know. And if anyone should be held responsible, it's Alex.
sensless
I hate her. I think she's just annoying. I don't know what it is about her even - I just can't put my finger on it...I just can't stand her.
JyDanzig
I also love Nurse Olivia. Though I do think the character has been somewhat inconsistently written... one week she's sweet as can be, the next she's sort of a bitch.

But I think the actress has always been great in that part. I particularly thought she did a great job in the episode from the beginning of this season (I think?) when she was trying to talk to George again, and he kept blowing her off. That was heartbreaking... she's exceptionally good at playing vulnerable.
jewlmc

IMO she's a dead end for George. He deserves an interesting story, not a boring "cute" sideline story. Which is all Nurse Syph is capable of giving him.

mjforty
I don't think she's that great a catch in real life, either. She seems kind of flighty and needy.

Not that George, sweet as he is, is good boyfriend material, either. Until he gets over his stupid crush on Meredith. Which is unfathomable to me. Because I don't see what she's ever done to ensure George's undying devotion.

I don't have a problem with men wanting women who are pretty or sophisticated. In fact, I require a certain amount of sophistication in the men I date. But I'm not in my 20's so that might make the difference.
Imrahil
I kinda like her. It was funny when she was trying to apologoze to Izzy in the elevator and Izzy just ignored her and walked out.

However, I don't think she works romantically with any of the interns, but that's just my opinion. I would like to see more of here though.
youdidntseeme23
Same here, I'd like to see her as a regular cast member. With her name in the theme and everything...haha. I really like her. She brings a new type of "woman" to the show. There's Meredith and she has her own little thing going on with the McDouches, and then there is Satan's whore herself, who is the "great doctor type" but unlike Bailey, she doesn't show it. Izzy is the giggly, goofy, fun one who at the same time can be ridiculously emotional and moody, then there is Cristina: The Snark.

I just think Olivia brings something different, almost unsure of herself, not wanting to step on any toes type girl that gets what she wants, but regrets it.

I also think the show needs more characters that aren't surgeons. Currently 10 of 10 of the characters are surgeons. Some nurses and lawyers could be interesting.
Alden
Did anyone notice her in 1x07? I can't remember if anyone mentioned it - she was the nurse on the masochist guy.
amikaro
@Alden
I did notice her in 1x07, since I'm rewatching season 1 right now:-).

While doing that, I noticed something that confuses me about the whole syph-storyline. When George asks Olivia out and tells the others about it, Alex tells him to grab the condoms he's got in his coat "no glove, no love", and George takes them. It just seemed weird to me, that they would show both of them responsible enough to have condoms on them, but Alex ends up giving George syphillis via Olivia, which would mean they both slept with her without a condom...?
flux
Syphilis can be contracted even with the use of a condom. It's passed from person to person who comes in contact with the syphilis sore. Condoms are only effective if it covers the sore, otherwise, a person can still get the syph.
amikaro
@flux
Thx, good to know! Poor Olivia, I had pegged her as being pretty irresponsible, having unprotected sex with two guys she barely knew. I shall not judge characters on this show anymore without being properly informed;-).
seasplease
I think that George used a condom, but Alex didn't, because when he is making out with Olivia on the bunk bed she mentions something about using a condom "this time".
Mighty Cuinn
I really don't get why Olivia even HAS to apologize to Izzie. At that point, Izzie was telling people what a asshat Alex is, but then to get all in a huff cause a guy she purpotedly 'hates' diddles the nurse?

Shut up Izzie!

Considering Izzie turns around and starts just using Alex to 'feed the beast' and as much tells him so to focus on Dead Denny, she didn't have any right to BE pissed at Olivia, for anything. She owes the nurse an apology.

And now, because of this thread name.. I have this mental image of Charlie Brown dropping trou to have Linus examine him for VD.
rawkthewalk
I wanted to give this thread a bump since Nurse Olivia is still around and still the best tertiary character. It's absurd that they haven't given this girl a series regular job.

I think it would be awesome if in the vein of that season five Angel episode, Harm's Way, which was an episode through the eyes of the recurring/non-regular Harmony, Grey's pulled one with Nurse Olivia. Hell, I think they should introduce us to SU's sister, Jayma Mays, who's on every other ABC show anyways. And I also love.

It's kinda absurd to have a character play an integral role earlier in the show and still be around but only be a talking head a season later. At the very least, it would be nice to have a regular who isn't a surgeon but is still in on all the action. Have her correct a doc and save a patient and be inspired to become a doctor. Have her file a sexual harassment suit against a doc. Give the girl something to do.

I would love this, actually. I hated Harmony on Angel until that episode aired. Hell, they should do an episode where they just focus on things from the nurses' POV, that would be a nice break.
Lille My
I love Olivia. I wish she got more screentime.

The whole exchange with George where he exclaims "she's toxic!" and Olivia says "Callie? Yeah, a lot of us feel that way" was fantastic.

In general I wish we had more nurses on the show. As someone who works with recruiting health-care workers for hospitals, I can tell you that more often than not nurses run the show and are the real hearts of the operation.

[Sort-of-OT]Scrubs made that point really well in an episode where all the interns were complaining about being the most under-appreciated people in the hospital and the ones with the hardest jobs, and the the viewers see that Carla had changed her shift to help them and cover for them without getting any credit.[/Sort-of-OT]
ShepherdSquared
I would love to see more from the nurses' POV, but not from Olivia/Syph nurse. It's not lack of storylines that keeps me uninterested in this character, it's the actress.

ETA: Grey's Syph Nurse is nowhere near as loveable in my book as Carla/Judy Reyes from Scrubs.
Juliebijoux
All the talk about Rose, the new/old scrub nurse, made me think about Olivia. I wish they would bring her back as more of a regular instead of pretending like Rose has been in the OR the whole time.

I really liked her with George, but it is not necessary for her to have a romantic story-line.
rue bee
I like Olivia, too. I would rather Derek have a fling with her than Miss Rose. Besides, Olivia's only bagged Alex, George, and McSteamy so far. She needs to get her Grand Slam.

Crap! Another top of the page. Sorry.
