IMO she's a dead end for George. He deserves an interesting story, not a boring "cute" sideline story. Which is all Nurse Syph is capable of giving him.
In the TV world, you're right. In real life, George would be smart to go with her, instead of pining over someone he can't have.

I don't think she's that great a catch in real life, either. She seems kind of flighty and needy.
Not that George, sweet as he is, is good boyfriend material, either. Until he gets over his stupid crush on Meredith. Which is unfathomable to me. Because I don't see what she's ever done to ensure George's undying devotion.
She's the nice woman who would be a great partner in life, if men (e.g., George) would just get over their infatuation with women who are prettier, more sophisticated, or whatever.
I don't have a problem with men wanting women who are pretty or sophisticated. In fact, I require a certain amount of sophistication in the men I date. But I'm not in my 20's so that might make the difference.

I kinda like her. It was funny when she was trying to apologoze to Izzy in the elevator and Izzy just ignored her and walked out.
However, I don't think she works romantically with any of the interns, but that's just my opinion. I would like to see more of here though.

Same here, I'd like to see her as a regular cast member. With her name in the theme and everything...haha. I really like her. She brings a new type of "woman" to the show. There's Meredith and she has her own little thing going on with the McDouches, and then there is Satan's whore herself, who is the "great doctor type" but unlike Bailey, she doesn't show it. Izzy is the giggly, goofy, fun one who at the same time can be ridiculously emotional and moody, then there is Cristina: The Snark.
I just think Olivia brings something different, almost unsure of herself, not wanting to step on any toes type girl that gets what she wants, but regrets it.
I also think the show needs more characters that aren't surgeons. Currently 10 of 10 of the characters are surgeons. Some nurses and lawyers could be interesting.

Did anyone notice her in 1x07? I can't remember if anyone mentioned it - she was the nurse on the masochist guy.

@Alden
I did notice her in 1x07, since I'm rewatching season 1 right now:-).
While doing that, I noticed something that confuses me about the whole syph-storyline. When George asks Olivia out and tells the others about it, Alex tells him to grab the condoms he's got in his coat "no glove, no love", and George takes them. It just seemed weird to me, that they would show both of them responsible enough to have condoms on them, but Alex ends up giving George syphillis via Olivia, which would mean they both slept with her without a condom...?

Syphilis can be contracted even with the use of a condom. It's passed from person to person who comes in contact with the syphilis sore. Condoms are only effective if it covers the sore, otherwise, a person can still get the syph.

Thx, good to know! Poor Olivia, I had pegged her as being pretty irresponsible, having unprotected sex with two guys she barely knew. I shall not judge characters on this show anymore without being properly informed;-).

I think that George used a condom, but Alex didn't, because when he is making out with Olivia on the bunk bed she mentions something about using a condom "this time".

I really don't get why Olivia even HAS to apologize to Izzie. At that point, Izzie was telling people what a asshat Alex is, but then to get all in a huff cause a guy she purpotedly 'hates' diddles the nurse?
Shut up Izzie!
Considering Izzie turns around and starts just using Alex to 'feed the beast' and as much tells him so to focus on Dead Denny, she didn't have any right to BE pissed at Olivia, for anything. She owes the nurse an apology.
And now, because of this thread name.. I have this mental image of Charlie Brown dropping trou to have Linus examine him for VD.

I wanted to give this thread a bump since Nurse Olivia is still around and still the best tertiary character. It's absurd that they haven't given this girl a series regular job.
I think it would be awesome if in the vein of that season five Angel episode, Harm's Way, which was an episode through the eyes of the recurring/non-regular Harmony, Grey's pulled one with Nurse Olivia. Hell, I think they should introduce us to SU's sister, Jayma Mays, who's on every other ABC show anyways. And I also love.
It's kinda absurd to have a character play an integral role earlier in the show and still be around but only be a talking head a season later. At the very least, it would be nice to have a regular who isn't a surgeon but is still in on all the action. Have her correct a doc and save a patient and be inspired to become a doctor. Have her file a sexual harassment suit against a doc. Give the girl something to do.

I would love this, actually. I hated Harmony on Angel until that episode aired. Hell, they should do an episode where they just focus on things from the nurses' POV, that would be a nice break.

I love Olivia. I wish she got more screentime.
The whole exchange with George where he exclaims "she's toxic!" and Olivia says "Callie? Yeah, a lot of us feel that way" was fantastic.
In general I wish we had more nurses on the show. As someone who works with recruiting health-care workers for hospitals, I can tell you that more often than not nurses run the show and are the real hearts of the operation.
[Sort-of-OT]Scrubs made that point really well in an episode where all the interns were complaining about being the most under-appreciated people in the hospital and the ones with the hardest jobs, and the the viewers see that Carla had changed her shift to help them and cover for them without getting any credit.[/Sort-of-OT]

I would love to see more from the nurses' POV, but not from Olivia/Syph nurse. It's not lack of storylines that keeps me uninterested in this character, it's the actress.
ETA: Grey's Syph Nurse is nowhere near as loveable in my book as Carla/Judy Reyes from Scrubs.

All the talk about Rose, the new/old scrub nurse, made me think about Olivia. I wish they would bring her back as more of a regular instead of pretending like Rose has been in the OR the whole time.
I really liked her with George, but it is not necessary for her to have a romantic story-line.

I like Olivia, too. I would rather Derek have a fling with her than Miss Rose. Besides, Olivia's only bagged Alex, George, and McSteamy so far. She needs to get her Grand Slam.
