Why isn't Patrick Dempsey wearing turtlenecks? Should Burke get better street clothes? Does PD's curls distract you from the show? Do you think Meh looks better with lighter hair? And what happened to Izzie's bangs? Here's where you discuss everything about hair and wardrobe.
Beffers

Do PD's curls distract you from the show?
I can't believe you even have to ask that question. Doesn't that belong in the "O HELL Yeah !!!! " category. Although, I gotta say his curls didn't distract me so much in the last ep as the change in his hair colour did. It even threw me during the infamous elevator scene with Bailey and that took some doing, belive me. I can't decide if it is just natural greyage seeping in or TPTB experimenting with lighening the overall colour of his hair. He just seems to have these weird light brown streaks in his hair, all of a sudden and they just looked odd.
BostonsKrissy
Ellen Pompeo's hair distracts me. Her bang stands don't move. It's like superglued to her forehead.
Enigma13
Burke definitely needs better street clothes. Remember the turtleneck-esque sweater from when he ended things with Cristina? All buttoned up to his neck and everything.

Also, it annoys me when they put Izzie's hair half up in a bun, and then the rest let out.

Ah, Flux and Beffers, my partners in turtleneck crime. This is definitely the thread for me! Can't wait for future episodes with those curls all windblown, messy and take-me-to-bed-right-now-dead-sexy.
SinCA
Curls and bangs, yes, I can dig it. But Bailey! In her anniversary dress! Wow, so pretty. Her make-up was great too. I thought it was nice to see her all dressed up.
Coma Girl
For those who have questioned the existence of PD's emerging sexy grey locks, I tried unsuccessfully to find the photo I'd seen that was really dramatic. Instead, here's a more feeble example on Getty Images. It's image #55717972, currently the first one on the lightbox. Click to see an enlargement.

ETA: Found the shot on The Dempsey Daily. It's the photo on the left. I saved and then viewed it at 500%. Boy, there's grey hair flyin' all over da place.

Why am I so obsessed with Patrick Dempsey's hair. Somebody sedate me!
flux
Ah yes, I see the greys. I don't know if I like them though. Salt n pepper hair PD vs dark and delicious PD?

I want that brown suede jacket back on PD from season 1 episode 2. The one where he meets Meh at the elevator when they both got off from work.

V-neck shirts are nice too and I miss the shirt-sweather combo.

Coma Girl, aren't you suppose to be on vacation?
Coma Girl

Coma Girl, aren't you suppose to be on vacation?
Um, actually I'm supposed to be writing a brochure on solar renewable energy credits. Having quite a bit of trouble tearing myself away from the big new world of full-fledged GA forumdom to finish my work so I can go home and start my vacation. Must. maintain. self. control...

I think the make-up department does a great job - the cast always look good, but not too good. And they always look kind of tired. I appreciate that.

I actually like Meh's ashy-brown color, but she should wear more ponytails and get her hair out of her face.

I like Izzy's half-bun.
jennifuh
I love the curls, but they just look so... shiny. Like I could see myself in them.

Ah, to be that close to PD.
DrCher

They could of made Bailey look better. She reminded me of spoiled Sophie from MY SUPER SWEET 16.
Beffers

Why am I so obsessed with Patrick Dempsey's hair.
Why is the earth round ? Why is grass green ? Why do chickens have lips ? Some things defy all reason and explantion.....they just exhist all by themselves in some strange parallel universe that mere morals like us can never hope to inhabit. So it is with PD's hair. Don't fight it, just go with the flow...its better for your mental health in the long run.

If anyone is interested in Meh/McS appearances, there are some interesting discussions over at Grey Matter in Meh and McS's respective threads.

Yeah, I agree with you alyrae, I like that they're not looking perfect all the time. Makes it a little more realistic, I think. I've noticed it a lot in EP's really emotional scenes lately- the 'I'm sick of hating you, Derek' one comes to mind.

Beffers- do chickens really have lips? Sorry, I had to ask.

Is it just me or is Addison always in black or grey coloured attire? Yeah, probably just me.

She's a New Yorker. It's par for the course.

Except, of course, for the stupid salmon scrubs.
Bruin4Ever
salmon scrubs suck serious snake scrotum

sorry
flux
I like Meh's sorta wavy hear and not the stright pony tail she's been sporting since S1. And George's hair is increasing greasy. Izzie looked really good in the bar and Xtina is well, Xtina.

But I hated Addison's neck scaf wardrobe when they were on the roof. Woman needs some colours, stat!
anon
Regarding Addison's lack of color, I'll have to agree with this:

She's a New Yorker. It's par for the course.
It's true.

I think KW looked beautiful tonight. Love the hair.
Bella Lumina

I thought the same thing. Such pretty, shiny hair on that girl.

PD was also looking especially delicious tonight, too. The hair/clothing in the therapist's office was perfect!
Beffers

Word !!! But then when doesn't he look perfect ? Loved how rugged he looked in the rooftop scene...very different to how he looks under studio lights. That grey sweather was awesome. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we get some turtleneck love soon as the cold winter weather draws in too. Mad props to the nurse at the beginning of the ep for giving hair some love too. Gotta love that....so far, Bailey, McS and some unknown intern have all commented on the wonder that is his hair. The day that Meh comments on it too ( as she runs her hands thru it during a love scene perhaps ) is the day I keel over and die.

I'm so there with you Beffs, again. And the turtlenecks will make my blood pressure skyrocket. Dare to dream my friends.

Xtina certainly looks good in the previews with her purple dress.
Beffers

This is America dammit. This country is built on dreams.

Welcome back Babycakes....sniffles

I'm a native New Yorker and I really admire Addison's wardrobe. I think she always looks very chic and sophisticated compared to the interns who dress very bummy, like they're still in college.

I also thought her short sleeved black halterneck blouse was very pretty. I don't think it was a neck scarf but the halter part of her shirt.

Meh's hair was looking very good today too! It was wavy and had some volume and sheen, unlike other episodes where it usually falls flat.
troycrazy8

I believe that's a mega expensive Dolce and Gabbana dress. Once again, I drool for Sandra Oh's teeny-tiny waist.
jencolefluke

Should Burke get better street clothes?
I have to admit I have never noticed Isaiah Washington's clothes because I am always fixated on the perfection of his face. I will have to remind myself to check them out next week.
Lila82
Mentioned this in the episode thread, but I'll bring it over here too. I hate Alex's street clothes. Those collared shirts and grandpa jackets are so not right for him. He's a musician's kid, cocky and self-assured...I'd like to see him in a slicker wardrobe.

Should Burke get better street clothes?
Good god, yes! Purple turtlenecks and orange argyle should never mix. It's interesting though -- Burke comes off as so self-assured and cool around Christina, and he's such a dork in his private life. Cute little contradiction.

I love Christina's wardrobe. Meredith's is blah but works for her cause she's a super skinny chick and the casual look is good on girls like that.
amalia
What about the date dress that Izzy wore last week? Floral print satin. So feminine. She looked just lovely - luminous. Seriously.
Spaz Cadet
Burke should never wear turtlenecks or mock turtles. They make him look like a ... turtle.

Hot. Purple. Dress. Someone say SO's tiny waist? She's got tiny everything, from the looks of it. Except hair.

BTW, KH's hair and makeup and clothes looked luminous this week. Good job.

Oh, I thought she looked positively radiant last week. And thus, my girlcrush was born. Wow. KH truly brings the pretty.
Aoedele
That dress reminded me of this ugly satin print Laura Ashley comforter my sister had growing up. Hated that thing.

This show has some of the worst hair, makeup and clothing I've seen on TV. They must spend all their budget on the music.

Can I also get some love on the PD-in-a-white-starched-shirt-under-a-v-neck-sweater-action (shirt tails hanging out, I think) from early in S1? YUM! But on the turtleneck thing, I saw PD recently on an ep of Will & Grace and he was wearing a turtleneck. McD definitely needs to be sporting those as the Seattle weather gets colder. Turtlenecks are like kilts, I think -- not every man can pull 'em off (so to speak), but PD sure can.
Beffers

Thud !! O man, that look rocks my world. I love how he looks in 2.06 when he teams it with a brown trench coat.

I hate to break it to you Turtleneck lovers though, but I really think the GA wardrobe powers-that-be are making a conscious decison NOT to put McD in turtlenecks ever. ( Pausing for a sec to pass ComaGirl and Flux a Kleenex. ) It's a look very closely associated with W&G, isn't it ? Pretty much everyone who has ever reviewed his 3 ep stint on the show, has remarked on it. So I really think the GA wardrobe PTB are gonna work extra hard to give McD a definative look of his own. They are gonna not want to seem to be piggybacking on the sucess of one of his earlier wardrobe "successes",as scorching hot as it might be.

Major love to McD for being in jeans so much of the time too. For such a brilliant and successful man to dress so casually, its super sexy to me.

It's still November in Seattle, there's still time, time to get colder weathers. Then maybe we'll see turtlenecks, say maybe Christmas. Magic 8 Ball says it's looking good.

Most definitely. I think PD is a jean man in real life too. I've notice in a lot of magazine photo shoots, the credit always reads, "Jeans: His own". I hope the wardrobe people won't go for the dress pants/loafer combo either. PD looks better causal, in turtlenecks and jeans.
Beffers

OMG, Word Flux Word !! I think its hilarious that someone other than me reads the credits for all those delicious photos shoots he does. I do it out of curiosity coz I think he always looks his best when his wife is the acredited hair and makeup person in the shoots. But I think his hair/makeup looks the worst/straightest when Amy Nadine who oddly enough works for the same agency as his wife ( Bardeen) does the shoots. Yes, I know, I have no life.

On the jeans thing though, as hot as he looks in them, sometimes the price tag for them is listed and when I once saw " PD's jeans, DOLCE and GABANA, $1,200 " it made me realise that you and me relaxing in a pair of $40 jeans from Old Navy or The Gap is very, very far removed from PD relaxing in a pair of comfy ole jeans.
flux

The only time I've seen his wife do his hair/makeup was for People's sexiest man alive issue. All the other times it has been different people. My favourite is the EW cover. His hair looked so good, nice and shinny and you could see the heaps of waves and curls.

I thought no one read those either. Beffs, you are my twin!!!

Lucky ole Jilly-poo also did the Los Angeles magazine photo shoot, the Cargo mag photo shoot and the TV Guide cover ( the May one )

Just how damm lucky IS she BTW ? Not only does she get PAID to run her hands thru and play with PD's hair while she's at work, she also gets to take him home and play with his hair, when she's umm...not at work !! Lucky, lucky woman.

Oddly enough tho, there was a photo shoot of him done at Le Mans back in June, for the InStyle "What's sexy now" feature in the Sep issue of the mag. He looks fab, but clearly a bit windswept and studildly rugged in a non-made up kind of a way. There was no hair and make up listed in the credits, coz he clearly didn't have anyone work on him for the pix. It was PD "au natural' and it looked awesome.

So anyhoo, on the very next page of the mag is a lovely pic of Kirsten Davis also going for the windswept out in the middle of nature look. She looks great and so does her hair and make up. But it doesn't look quite as real and natural as the PD pix do. So guess who was the the hair and makeup artist credited for the Kirsten Davis pix ? Yup, you guess it.

After tonight's episode, I am seriously convinced that someone has dumped Rogaine into the NYC water supply. Holy follicles, Batman!

Okayyy I love the dresses that the female members of Fool and the Gang wear on their dates. Cristina's purple dress? Izzy's floral satin number? Oh, and the long-sleeved vibrant coloured shirts they wear under their scrubs. Classic.

I'm not a huge fan of purple satin material and I really liked the red dress from before, that looked so ridiculously nice.

If I ever become a surgeon, I will have a bureau of said brightly colored solids. They look good.
Gracelessly
So glad Xtina picked the purple, although she did look good in the red (it had some interesting ribbon or something). That white dress was kind of ugly.

ROTFLMAO

I was soooo thinking that tooBella. Wise coulda' been McD's twin in every way, but for the big ole Lionel Richie poker face jaw.

McD really worked those blue dress pants he wore out to dinner, didn't he..sigh.... and his hair just ablowin' in the wind on the ferry. Why I do believe I just keeled over.Thud.
anon
Christina looked totally smoking in the purple dress. Satin is totally unforgiving but she rocked it. The only thing that I literally cannot get over still was how teeny tiny her waist was? Like, it was practically nonexistent.
secretsmile
I think Addison's hair is gorgeous, but her face is waaay too long for them to pull if halfway back the way they did last night. I didn't think that was flattering at all.
hailey30
anon, my group and I thought the same thing about Cristina's waist. She looked great in that purple dress (what was it -- about a size 0?) but my husband commented that her waist looked like it was about 18 or 20 inches around -- shades of Scarlett O'Hara! LOL Both she and Meredith are incredibly tiny -- I would think the stressful and intense surgical rotation would make them lose even more weight, which they can't afford to do. That would have been the one interesting thing about keeping Cristina's pregnancy -- just to see her put on a few pounds!
Beffers
Can someone please throw those Godawful blindingly new-looking, white sneakers that McD has started wearing offa the top of the Space Needle please. They are horrible and so Seinfeldesque, they give me the creeps. Bring back the plain black ones, they were far sexier.
Coma Girl

Coma Girl, back from my Spanish sojourn. Figures I'd find my peeps Beffers and Flux in here.

My worst vacation fears were semi-confirmed. I got home from Barcelona late last night and while the 11/6 episode was recorded (of course, I watched it immediately even though I was running on empty), the 11/13 episode inexplicably stopped recording 5 minutes in. In the episode where clearly there is much windblown PD and a smokin' Meh/McD elevator encounter or ten. Yikes! Beffers, I believe you kindly offered to send me a tape if disaster occured. Can I take you up on that?

BTW, I just knew there'd be some kind of PD/GA-oriented news from my trip and there was. Sunday afternoon, as Coma Boy and I hit a wall of architecture, museum and tapas overload, we went back to our hotel room to relax, turned on the tube, and found ourselves watching the beginning of "Lucky 7" (aka "Siente Novios")! I considered it a sign from the heavens and watched the whole movie while packing for home (and wearing a black turtleneck -- see, this message does belong in this thread). It was pretty odd to hear PD's voice dubbed into a deep, resonant Spanish, but hey, he could be speaking Greek for all I care. He'd still look muy delicioso to me.
moltingmonad
I wish Dr. Burke would keep his glasses on all of the time . . . He looks like a big ole blinking lemur whenever he takes them off, it creeps me out!

But I do like Izzie's uber-blonde new hair.
flux
Welcome back Coma Girl. Now you can watch GA on Sundays again.

I don't know if I like the greys of PD. It kinda bothered me in the Elevator of Lust. I kept looking at it, thinking oh yeah, those were the greys people were talking about. I want my dark and delicious McD back, so I wouldn't miss the greys if they were, say, artifically enhanced. Ahem, am I shallow? I hope not, I got dark hair and I love it, greys would be way too obvious to ignore and it would bother me to no end that they're practically day-glow in contrast with the dark colour.
