Still my favourite character. During the pilot ep I was expecting her role to be totally one-dimensional. Wrong! Looking forward to hearing more about her backstory. P.S. Her elevator scene with McD at the end of ep 2.6 was classic, period.

Every week she becomes more and more my favorite character. She's there to get the job done and I got respect that. Most of the other characters spend more time worrying over their sex life (during the work day) than the patients and she is dedicated to taking care of patients.
Anyway, every week the actress has a phenomal scene that should make her unbeatable come Emmy time.

Gotta say, if Bailey DID have any interest in McDreamy, she has great skill in ending up in an elevator alone with him. So, they could have a clandestine relationship, and we wouldn't know it.
Fortunately, the fact that she has NO interest is part of her great charm.

Naw. Bailey would break McDreamy in half. Let them stay friends! He needs someone who isn't drooling over him and can tell him when he's being a jerk.

Plus, Bailey doesn't seem the type that would cheat on her husband. She seems incredibly loyal.

[I wasn't actually suggesting that anything might, could, or should happen between them. That would be gross. Just saying that she has all the opportunities. In other words, I find it funny just how often they end up in an elevator together, alone.]

A thread devoted just to Bailey. I think I'm in love. I always love her. She was great in the elevator this week and grumping about no lobster.
I also loved her a few weeks ago when she knew all the doll heads and she was like "What? Shut up." Hee. That was awesome.

Dr. Bailey rocks. I love how she calls all the others on their shit and refuses to let their personal whatnot mess with patient care. But she's also compassionate and invested in her patients. She's the perfect combination of hardass and soft touch.

Seriously. Favorite character every week I just wait to see what she would say. Favorite thing ever was during the episode with Joe.
Dr. George O'Malley: You know Joe?
Dr. Miranda Bailey: Oh, yeah. I was the only female intern my year. I didn't know anybody and nobody knew me except Joe. He knew me.
Dr. George O'Malley: Oh. So you and Joe?
Dr. Miranda Bailey: All you people ever think about is how to get into somebody's pants. You're nasty.
[slaps George]
Dr. Miranda Bailey: That's why you got syphilis.
Hee that bit sealed me as a Bailey fan forever.

Maybe Bailey had to become a hardass because she was the only woman in her group when she was an intern? In any case, I like her ... she's got spunk. Also, I'm not so sure Bailey is immune to the charms of Shepherd. I don't think she'd ever be interested, but the woman does have eyes, and I'm pretty sure she's called him McDreamy once or twice. Hee.

I am down with the Bailey love. She rocks. Very few characters/ actors can pull of this no nonsense attitude and still be so loved. She's just a total bad ass. I would definitely let her operate on me. The elevator thing was great. Anything else wouldn't have been in her nature. I just really respect her. She's a real woman!!

And CW played it so well, too. It reminded me of the episode where she had to notify the parents of her cystic fibrosis patient--controlled but deeply felt emotion. This character could have so easily been a drill instructor caricature, but instead she's got a huge heart and smart mouth. Two things that I love in people, real or fictional.
I'm still tickled that she hazes the interns a little too, like making one of the boys go get her comfy shoes when she came back from her anniversary date.

I am going to be joining all of you in saying that Bailey rocks. I watched all the eps in 2 days, and when I started, I thought she would be annoying, but she won me over when she told McDreamy that he got himself in a pickle, and that she was not going to tell him which of the fine women he should be with. And the pain speech was good too. :D

Absolutely love Bailey. A terrific character who could have been just a stereotype. Hope we get to see her husband.
My favorite Bailey moment was when they were operating on Christina and she safeguarded Christina's privacy and refused to allow Meredith into the operating room.

Broken record time....Bailey rocks my world too !!
Did anyone else think she was about to tear up too in the elevator scene in 2.06 and would have if McD didn't get his shit back together fairly quicky ? She sure was gnawing on her lower lip a lot and I am pretty sure I saw her swallow a lump in her throat.

After reading through the entire thread, I wanted to say that I really like the way the writers and actor have added layers to this character. While she doesn't stink like an onion, she can also be sweet when the situation calls for it. But she also definitely has that bitterness about her at times. That's why she's definitely not like a parfait, which everyone loves.

I still think her best moment was back in season 1 when Burke asked her what her opinon of him was. When he gave her 30 seconds and she interupted him as she laid into him was priceless.

You ever say to someone, "Let's go get some parfaits," and they say "Hell no, I don't like no parfaits"? Parfaits are delicious.

Bailey is that rare treasure of a teacher. Tough and scary when she needs to push the BabyDocs to grow up and take responsibility in their roles as doctors but kind, compassionate, and FUNNY when the situation calls for it. One day you're just a lowly medical student, then you graduate and the next day people are calling you doctor and expecting you to have all the answers. Every intern needs a Bailey to help them make that transistion.
CW has nailed this part, she is PERFECT. Let the interntots grow up and move on. Keep Bailey and let us watch her whip the newbies into shape for years to come!

Just wanted to add to the Bailey love. I like how she's evolved. First season when she didn't know them she was all "I don't want to know about your love life cuz it interferes with my work day" but I love how she's protective of them now. Not leaving Cristina through her surgery, being understanding of Meredith when her mom was in the hospital, and now making McDreamy stay away. Nothing but love and respect for Bailey.
I was all excited to see the Chief's reaction to Burketina (which was kind of disappointing) but now I want to see how Bailey reacts. Can't attendings just stay away from her interns?

I am jumping on the BaileyLoveTrain. She is one of my favorite characters, not just for how she interacts with the other characters (i.e. relationships) but how she is. She could be a drill sargent, she could be a mom, she is a doctor - I am amazed in every scene she's in. What I love most about her is that she chose to 'babysit' the interns. And, at first, I thought she did it because she wanted to 'haze' them, as so many others are wont to do when they have power over others, but you can tell she really only wants to teach them. Put them through the ringer, yes, but that's the best way to tell who can be a doctor and who can't. As hard as she is on the interns, she always shows her soft side.
Though, the one thing I've noticed, she almost never does it towards the person she is actually be soft. She makes Meredith leave Cristina alone, while Cristina is sedated and doesn't know. She tells off McDreamy when Meredith is out of earshot. I mean, she can and has been nice to her interns, but normally her way of being soft on them is being hard on someone else - protecting them from what she feels they can't handle at that exact moment in time. A true teacher, knowing how much her students can take and giving it to them, even if they themselves aren't as sure. She just amazes me.

Every time someone disgusts me, I just whip out my favourite Bailey diss...."You nasty."
Lord, I love this character. She is written and played perfectly and is the main reason I adore this show even with the gigantic plot holes. The combination of tough love and that eensy-weensy bit of sympathy and tenderness we see every once in a while makes her HUMAN. She's tough as nails 99.99% of the time, but that .01% when we're allowed to see her vulnerability makes her one of the most moving characters on the show.
I'd also love to see more of her back story, although I think that's walking a fine line -- if we learn TOO much of her relationship with her husband, it risks wandering into cheese territory (ie I don't want to see her be all lovey-dovey-sweet with him, it would RUIN her for me LOL!!).
And yet another reason to love her (like we need one)..."No one holds a scalpel until I'm so happy I'm Mary-Freakin'-Poppins!"
