I liked her from Episode One, and I'm in love with her now. I think Cristina could easily have become a very dislikeable character, but Sandra Oh has turned her into the best intern on the show, IMO.

I love Christina, but after the "You're My Boyfriend, Help Me find The Leg" debacle, I think her social skills were sacrificed in the name of science.
She needs to get out more. Hopefully (and I know a lot of people don't like them hooking up), when they're not at work, Burke will introduce her to the great big world of normal social interaction.
I almost needed sedation when I arrived home a few minutes ago and found all these threads!

I really didn't like Cristina till she started handling the comedic portion of the show. I loved the whole pain management with the porn guy. That was hilarious!

Sandra Oh is the best thing about the show. The porn guy pain management, this week's leg shenanigans, the pregnancy and more. She's the only one on the show, and beyond the show to medical shows in general maybe, who can successfully emote from behind a surgical mask.

The interaction with Porn Guy was absolutely the best. And the way she looks at Burke. And the snappy one liners. And....

Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson are what finally got me to check out this show. I'd love to see more scenes between their characters, though they're both excellent with the other cast members, too. I've only seen two full episodes of GA, but Oh and my other favs (adding IW and KH to round out my top four) are what will keep me watching for now.

I absolutely love Cristina, she is this show. Her freak-outs, her personality, her relationship with Burke ... everything about her amazes me and the way Sandra Oh portrays her is fantastic. She should have won that Emmy award.

Like any normal human being, I think Christina has moments of greatness and moments of real cheesiness, which I think attests to Sandra Oh's ability to actually make her character seem... well...REAL. For instance, I did love the leg search and before that, her frantic eagerness to get involved in the carnage, but the moment that annoyed me was her "I'm just not good at this girlfriend thing" disclaimer. To me it seemed like a shot at that "too cool for girly things" vibe, and I didn't buy it. Girls who are too cool, or smart, for girliness would never, ever say it, which is the main reason it appeals to some guys at all. This coming from a girl who desperately wants to be too cool and just isn't, so part of me appreciates that Christina tried it at all, and part of me wants to call her out on the B.S. that it was.

Sandra steals every scene she's in, making Meredith's issue-of-the-day pale in comparison to Ms. Oh's screen presence. They should definitely rename this "Yang's Anatomy".

Xtina does kick ass but if the whole show was about her wacky social skills, her over-achieving way, it's all about me and my surgery, it'll get old really fast. I love Xtina, her character is great. But it'll be like Karen Walker from Will & Grace having her own show and that would not be fun.

Nov 2, 2005 @ 11:13 pm
I think the point in the comparison between Christina and Karen is that they are both better as a more supporting role, as they both (in varied ways) portray the best friend/sidekick. Not that I don't think Christina is a strong enough character to make it all about her, but I think she is best when compared/contrasted to Meredith. She is a person who needs someone else to bounce off of, for lack of a better phrase.
Though, she really is my favorite character. You can tell she put aside everything to be a good surgeon, from family to social graces to even, you know, any semblence of a life and it's very interesting to watch her now realize that there is something she can have along with being a good surgeon. It's freaking awesome.

You're gonna have to tell me what "sosvs" means, because I'm clueless, but I do agree with you that perhaps Cristina is just now realizing that life could possibly mean more than she thought it could - i.e. Burke, who is FREAKIN HOT. Have I mentioned that yet? Because I did, several times, in my head. But back to Cristina, I'm willing to concede that her "I don't understand this 'boyfriend-girlfriend' thing was sincere if she's spent her entire life up till now pursuing surgery...or whatever. I just know that that particular speech, while attempting to gain cred, rarely does. And she should too. Or her writers.

Xtina is just hilarious. I like her quirkiness. She's great with the one liners. When she get's pushed out of her comfort zone it's comedy gold though. When her mother came for instance. Now that was some funny shit. Sometimes she can be a little irritating, but IRL who isn't. I like it when she overcomes her hang ups to connect with people, like telling Meh that she's her person, and the scene when Burke got in bed with her. Of couse the porn thing, that was outfreakinstanding.

I just wanted to add how fantastic I thought she was in the post-pregnancy ep where she keeps insisting she's fine, but once she starts crying she can't stop. Her complete lack of control and her horror at her complete lack of control was unbelieveable. And then Burke being the only one she'll let touch her, the only one who can console her? Amazing. I don't think I am expressing well how I feel about her acting and her character in those scenes, but I just loved it.

Okay, I'm totally on board with Sandra Oh and her acting skills. She is the bitchy voice of reason (or sarcasm ... whatever). She's the bomb baby. I'm really glad they didn't keep her pregnant though, giving a character a baby always sucks the life out of the character.

Most shows have likable, enjoyable characters. Some have that supporting character that you love almost more than the show itself.
...then you have Christina, who just totally rocks. Especially since (I suspect), GA wouldn't be half as fun to watch without her. I'll be the first to admit that I started watching GA, and still watch it, primarily for her. (I guess I'm totally on the S-Oh Love Train.)

She's my favourite intern as well (though Addision is my favourite character in the show by far, I'm not even ashamed to admit it any more!). Initially it was Izzy, but Christina took the lead and hasn't looked back since the episode where Liz the scrub nurse died and Burke had to stop her from attempting to revive her and took her out into the hallway and she looked up at him with those wounded eyes. Just killed me, brings tears to my eyes now remembering it.

I can't wait for next week's episode! She looks smokin' in the purple dress and I love how she says, "I'm hot. I can do hot in my sleep." And then you see the snippet of their date and there's silence. LOL.

Even though I'm so proud of Meredith..but I'll talk about that in a different forum. Anyways, just..love. All around. She can do hot in her sleep. Canada must have different previews because I didn't see Meh's "I miss you" or the silence with Burketina, but..oh well. I'm excited.

I missed the CTV preview because I was jumping between ABC and CTV (ABC is always like 5 min behind) and I ended up watching TEH KISS for the second time. You can download the ABC Preview with the "I miss you" and the bad date at greys-fans.com
And back on topic: Cristina's awkwardness in social situations makes me laugh so hard. She's so independent that she's forgotten how to act around other people. I love it.

I only see the CTV previews so I miss the ABC ones. The date should be hilarious because this storyline is amusing overall. Christina has confidence, but she does have such a hard time socializing with others. Others dislike her for comments she either tactlessly makes or just by being herself. Case in point the paramedic and the nurse (which was very tactless) from last night. The Burke/Christina storyline adds that extra humour since they both seem so driven and independent. Burke does most of the brooding in the relationship, and I love their odd but similar dynamics.

I have to preface this post with a few tidbits, so I don't get jumped on. As I have stated before, I love Cristina. She is my favorite character on the show. And I absolutely love love love her relationship with Burke. Their relationship is probably the most stable (definitely most enjoyable) in the show.
However, last night? Not so much with the love. I still loved Cristina, and Burke, but their scenes together. . . for the first time, I was very much questioning it. For the first time, they seemed awkward. And it might have been the fact that they were arguing about their relationship, though they've done it in the past and I've loved it. In fact, they've been awkward in the past and I always enjoyed it. Cringe-worthy, maybe, but still good. So, no, I'm talking myself out of that possibility.
The scene where he just walks away without telling her what he was thinking drove me insane. I wanted him to say, "Well, you can think that, but I also have a career I have to think about and I'm going to tell the Chief." It would still be in character for Burke, it would still show their problems with both communication and control, but it would show them still trying to figure this thing out.
And I felt that Cristina played the whole thing too conservative. I believe she wouldn't have wanted to tell the Chief, and I think she would have given a good reason not to; however, I feel that she was on the verge of being on of those women who don't want to go against their boyfriends, which I feel she really isn't. I dunno. All in all, I was not satisfied with them last night.
Though I do think next week's episode is going to be hilarious, and I hope that it clears up all the problems I've had with this one.

Can't wait for the awkward date, because it just shows how Cristina has always seemed to put her goals before everything else and because of that, probably lacks some much needed social skills.

Could someone recap her pregnancy for me? I understand that it has ended, but I want to know the circumstances.
tvjunkie2008
Nov 7, 2005 @ 9:52 pm
Basically she had always had a high-risk pregnancy. There was something about the egg not fully descending from the Fallopian tube (if I remember correctly), and she had a miscarriage. Sorry I can't be of more help. I think the term is an endotomic or something pregnancy.
neonbliss
Nov 7, 2005 @ 9:55 pm
She had an extrauterine pregnancy meaning the egg only dropped down to her fallopian tube (not her uterus, where the baby should be) and as the fetus got bigger, it burst her tube and they had to operate on her because she was bleeding out. In the end, she lost the baby, and her tube. Sad, but true.
Someone correct me if I described it wrong...
edit, because spelling counts.

Nov 8, 2005 @ 1:53 am
neonbliss, you're right. It's called and ectopic pregnancy where fertilization occurs outside of the uterus. Most of the time, the fertilized egg is spontaneously aborted but for some reason, it remained in the Fallopian tube (as in Xtina's case) and develops there. As the egg increase in size, it bursts the tube and causes internal bleeding. Even though she lost one her Fallopian tubes, she can still get pregnant because woman have a pair of ovaries and Fallopian tubes.

I am somewhat of a Cristina/Burke fan, though if everything happened my way Cristina would currently be single. She's married to her career, and maybe somewhere down the line a man can woo her with his irresistible charms, but for now I'd like her to be single and lovin' it.
